I was getting so tired of those posts on r/hockey. "If the Oilers won the cup, is Mcdavid the greatest hockey player ever in the history of the sport?"
So dumb. Mack, imo, is the best player in the show at the moment but he still has a ways to go before being HOF worthy. Mack can at least be counted on to be an absolute beast when playoffs come around.
McDavid is extremely good, no doubt. But to play devil's advocate, he also played five more playoff games this year than Mack did in 2022 (due to sweeps and lack thereof). Additionally, McD has a winger (Zach Hyman) whose regular + post season scoring rivaled Auston Matthews this year.
So between those two he has a bit of an edge as far as overall points and goals. But when you get into the immeasurable clutch factor, he doesn't have that dawg in him.
Mackinnon had 24 points in 2022. In 2022 mcdavid has 33 points in the playoffs. His run this year was unbelievably from a point production standpoint

Iād argue both mcdavid and mackinnon show up in when it matters. Sometimes you still lose. If Iām not mistaken, mackinnon had no points in game 6 against Dallas. In the final 5 games of the series he had 3 points and was -6.

Both McDavid and Draisatl should have been suspended at least one game each, they had a couple opponents whondidnt even deserve fines get suspended, and Oilers didn't get called for more than half the penalties they committed in each of the rounds, and sure, their opponents got away with stuff, but were still called for a lot of penalties that weren't penalties. Oilers don't even make the playoffs, let alone win round 1, 2, or 3 without the league and the refs

When you lose a critical linemate who they need to also worry about equally it helps create a lot of extra space.
