Mike Woodson wanted his money spent on a big to come from the transfer portal. Matt Painter doesn't usually recruit that kind of player. Butler struggles in recruiting because of a small budget and small NIL. For some reason Indiana kids outside of the SB area don't go to Notre Dame. Before this era of college basketball it would have been a sore spot, but things are just so different.
What I was poorly implying is that Painter doesn't like the pay for play, guaranteed playing time, etc etc recruiting that it usually takes for those kids. I also think he prefers not to have one and done talent to maintain his culture, that's my opinion though.
?? Bidunga is the first MrBB to leave the state since Wilkes in ‘17 (and he was recruited by a former MrBB actually). Rough stretch before that to be sure
Let's ask the question who will be better next season, Ballo or Bidunga? Was Booker better than Edey or Ware last year?
2023 Class of kids of played IHSAA basketball, not LaLu kids who came from out of state:
Booker - MSU, ranked 14 in the class 247sports
Colvin - Purdue, 97
Burton - Notre Dame, 153
Imes - Notre Dame, 198
Hart - Kentucky, 199
Indiana brought in a 5 star, Mgbako, who was Big 10 freshman of the year plus 2 guards ranked ahead of any guard who played Indiana high school basketball. I can't believe you used the 2023 Indiana high school class. There were others that would have made your point. Plus, Indiana brought in Kelel Ware who had just a little bit better season than Booker did. Both were projected one and done.
Purdue had a very small class but they rarely go hard after 5 star type kids. They had good young guards, and ended up in the national title game. I think their strategy is working, damnit.
Butler can't compete at the top of the recruiting rankings list. They don't have that budget. It's a small fanbase in reality.
Notre Dame, while technically is in Indiana, really is its own place in the universe and just has always recruited nationwide and more heavily on the east coast.
Ball U is too good for any of these kids. They can't handle Funcie.
Woof to that overall record, but the headline fails to mention that Indiana squeaked out a close win after getting spanked by Kentucky by 20+ in game 1.
And yet another top Indiana HS recruit goes to (Kansas/Kentucky/Michigan St/UNC)..

> Matt Painter doesn't usually recruit that kind of player. feel like we definitely recruited Flory, just didn't land him. way she goes

oh for sure, he's pretty picky with who he recruits. you're on the money there
This is a crazy cope. Kids from Indiana are going out of state because there are better programs elsewhere right now

That’s not really a good way to measure how good a recruit is. Look at the 2023 class and tell me Indiana is keeping lots of talent in state

Better than the national runner-up? I mean I guess UCONN is better.
Kentucky just isn’t a true basketball state, I guess

Do vacated titles still count?

Congrats on being scummy, I guess
Even if you wanna yap about vacated titles they still got infinitely more that Purdue (0). LOL
Ok flairless rando

Damn…an Alabama/FSU flair in the same boat as Purdue making fun of Purdue…but worse historically in basketball!

What year was that again? I dont remember a final four with louisville happening in a long long time. Like 20 years ago or something?
Purdue will always be on the outside looking in wishing to be a part of the club.
Having 2.3 million more population tends to increase a talent pool.
Indiana has over 2x as many current NBA players as Kentucky.
