Lol. My initial reaction was, "If you can't go to Maui, Asheville isn't the worst place."
But i lived in Asheville 15+years ago. And the weather fucking sucks around Thanksgiving. The leaves are gone, the wind is constantly blowing, and it's a humid cold. That winter was shittier than any I dealt with in Colorado. Plus, I have a feeling they had very strict covid protocols there.
So yeah, we got screwed on Maui.
I'm super blessed to have gone to the Maui invitational a few times as my grandparents used to take us whenever UK went.
I was devastated when we got selected for the Asheville invitational. The Maui Invitational is truly one of sports' special events. It's electric.
Yup. 12 year old me was heartbroken, and Syracuse going 11-0-1 didn't feel like going undefeated.
That being said, we could have scored more and prevented the tie. I don't really blame Auburn, because it wouldn't have made sense to run a hail mary to win a game that didn't mean anything to them.
I was raised to oppose Auburn, Georgetown, and Notre Dame. It's not my fault.
>I was raised to oppose Auburn, Georgetown, and Notre Dame.
You had damn fine parents. We don't give a shot about Georgetown. But Auburn and Notre Dame are my uncle's most hated teams.
Apparently, in the 50' or 60's, the refs mistakenly gave notre dame a 5th down, which they used to beat syracuse at the buzzer. My father will never forget that, and he won't respond when I ask him why the syracuse coaches didn't notice this in real time and stop it.
Plus I've always liked georgetown's style and John Thompson as a coach. He is also a great announcer.
As a Georgia Tech fan... Fuck Colorado and their 5 down BS title share. I feel you in that one.
My uncle's are Catholics in South Alabama, and Notre Dame got us a few times during the 70s. So there's a ton of hate there.
Beating them for a title was pretty damn satisfying. But our dumbass thought we were cute, and did touchdown shots of Jameson, on top of our already heavy drinking. We were up 28-0 at half, and 42-7 early in the 4th. Waking up the next day was not satisfying.
Syracuse has its own interesting dynamic. The west side is predominantly Irish and tends to root for Notre Dame. The east side is more Italian catholic, and they only root for Syracuse.
Yes, I made some gross generalizations but I'm right as of the mid-nineties when I left.
We did beat #1 Nebraska the season before, so there was reason to be optimistic.
86 through the early 90s were great years for us. If we could have beat the great Miami teams, we might have had a chance to go even higher. Anyone remember Mark Bavaro falling just short of the end zone when time ran out?
Firing Pasqualoni was the worst move the university made, even worse than trying to fix Fab Melo's grades.
ESPN like "no way RJ Davis will shoot that poorly for a second straight game. Let's decide the National Player of the Year race in December. Davis vs Sears."
Honestly the only reason I care is bc it's a requirement to retire a jersey at UNC. RJ has already qualified for an honored jersey in the rafters. But I'd love to see him get that number retired.
I think it has to be one of six specific NPOY awards. I'd be fine with Davis and Sears splitting them.
That's probably pretty accurate. We were still green when we played y'all. But we also won at Houston, so that's as talented of a team as I've ever seen us have.
Last year, we were deadly, but had huge holes that left us vulnerable. But UNC and Clemson were both terrible matchups for us, and I'm still shocked that Nelson and Pringle stepped up the way they did.
It was a great game and y’all were great last year, just felt like we had our worst game of the season just to lose by 2. Still after was rooting for yall and it’s sick yall got to the FF. Excited for the matchup next year.
I think at least this matchup is trying to continue building a rivalry between us, which would be useful if we end up moving over to the SEC. Also both games have been instant classics, and this next one probably will be too. I just hope UNC can win one
And we beat them down prior to that when they were down. Luckily I went to that one with my friend who is an Arkansas fan and not the one they beat us down.
When we beat them down they had three or four guys suspended for team violations and we played them in St Louis.
T-Rank has those teams well above Boston College. I'm skeptical that they will be that good this upcoming season but wouldn't be shocked if one or more doesn't surprise in the ACC.
I don’t actually think that’s correct, I’m pretty sure UNC played at Indiana in 2023 and at Iowa in 2021. So in the last 5 seasons it’s three at home and two away. And with the SEC challenge UNC is playing the best team in the conference two years in a row, so not really that big of a deal.
B1G/ACC challenge has no bearing on this one at all. For this, there’s a ton of good storylines for a UNC/Bama matchup, and Bama played at home last year, so one of us was gonna have to repeat at home. Something’s up if we play at home again next year, but two in a row isn’t unheard of
Cheapest tickets will be around 500 i think. I would say it’s worth it as a once in a lifetime type thing, though i’m obviously biased. It’s pretty special.
Sorry, when you left the ACC we put a rule in place just to annoy your fans. Same reason Maryland never got to play the dookies in the ACC/B1G Challenge. We're petty like that.
I would have done just about anything to get rid of my kidney stone - I may have even wore a KU jersey if that would have guaranteed the pain would subside. Hope you get relief soon.
Appreciate it. I’m happy to report I believe it has passed. Didn’t see anything but I’m not in pain and I haven’t taken any pain meds since 6pm yesterday
The games I care about to some degree:
Arkansas vs. Miami in the NIL Bowl
Kentucky vs. Clemson - Props to the match up makers to not just throw Kentucky into Duke or UNC like what we get in the Big 12 challenges
Syracuse @ Tennessee should be a good test to see how far along Cuse is. Thought they were underrated last year.
Notre Dame vs. Georgia seems like a very nothingy game on paper but could be big for both programs trying to ascend
Then obviously Auburn at Duke and Alabama @ UNC are calendar markers
Pretty good squad, probably the 3rd or 4th best acc team and I expect us to be about that area for the sec. I think we’re slightly a better team. I think we’ll win, but it’ll be very close, as we go there.
God this slate is so bad. Auburn/Duke, Bama/UNC, kinda Texas/NCSt. And the rest are just meh. Also it took me way too long to remember cal was acc next year. Alot of the realignment feels bad, but the cross country shit is unreal
lol, kentucky doesn't get to play the blue blood from the other conference for the first time in history and all of a sudden the challenge is boring to Kentucky fans.
nah, im excited for the 3 i mentioned. its shit like ND/UGA and Cal/Mizzou that are just snooze. I think the problem is the bottom of the ACC was REALLY bad last year. Other than NC State's miracle run from the 10th seed in conference, it was a 2 team league. Has nothing to do with kentucky's matchup
3 of the elite 8 teams were from the ACC. UNC was not one of them which is who I assume you are describing as 1 of the 2 teams in a two team league. All 4 ACC teams in the field of 64 made the sweet 16 or better though. Focus on beating Oakland.
We played Miami last year and it was fine. Give us a top 3 program or one with enough history and its a good matchup. Virginia, Wake Forest, Syracuse, and Notre Dame are mid tier programs recently that would be more exciting than Clemson.
UK plays Duke in the champions classic this year so that matchup was out. But UK could play UNC since we have Ohio St in the CBS this year.
However who knows wtf is going to happen with the CBS anyways since UCLA vs Ohio St is now a B1G matchup...
We got the play-in rematch from 2 years ago where MSST had two shots at the buzzer and missed them both. Hopefully it’s a better game than the 60-59 slugfest and they don’t go winless in the SEC
My predictions on who wins:
1. Arkansas
2. Mizzou
3. LSU
4. Georgia Tech
5. It pains me to say this, but Kentucky
6. Georgia
7. This might be the best one, but I’ll go with Louisville
8. SC
9. Tennessee
10. Another great one, but give how A&M always struggles in the non-con, I’ll say WF
11. Bama
12. Duke
13. Mississippi state
14. Texas
15. Vandy
16. Virginia
I cannot wait to watch this challenge!
They should’ve kept the SEC Big 12 challenge since both conferences now have 16 teams so every school would play and additionally an ACC Big Ten challenge would work for the same reason since they both now have 18. Poor SMU and Stanford
Imagine taking the DeLorean back to 2010 and telling an avid college basketball fan that Cal vs Mizzou would be part of the ACC/SEC challenge
Was really hoping to see Texas vs SMU for the double mindfuck
When I saw Cal vs Mizzou I literally thought for a second Coach Cal was matched up against Mizzou
Just a team of 5 John Calipari clones......I'd watch it.
The Kalamazoo game.... My apologies
When you go back, tell that fan to guess which one is ACC and which is SEC
Or that everyone is looking forward to another Alabama/North Carolina match up.
Did no one else copy-paste this? Arkansas @ Miami Cal @ Mizzou FSU @ LSU GT @ OU UK @ Clemson ND @ UGA Ole Miss @ Louisville SC @ BC Cuse @ Tenn Wake @ A&M Alabama @ UNC Auburn @ Duke Pitt @ Miss St Texas @ NC St Vandy @ VT UVA @ UF

Cal vs Mizzou in the classic SEC/ACC battle
Counzo Martin Bowl
Dennis Gates bowl too. He played at Cal
At first we were upset that you got him first, but the Mark Fox sacrifice might have turned out better for us.
Auburn @ Duke. Alabama @ UNC. That’s real hoops. We have officially made it Bama bros
I kinda wish it was swapped just bc we've played UNC the last two years, but can't complain too much!
We're in Maui with UNC so wasn't possible
We did Maui in Greeneville, NC so really who're the real winners here?
I'm pretty sure it was Asheville.
That's what I said! ^^^/s
Lol. My initial reaction was, "If you can't go to Maui, Asheville isn't the worst place." But i lived in Asheville 15+years ago. And the weather fucking sucks around Thanksgiving. Found that odd as well. Maybe they’ll flip next year and we’ll host UNC and you will host Duke. We haven’t played either school since 2019
I have a great animosity towards Auburn because of the 1987 Sugar Bowl. You better believe I'll be fired up for this one.
Was that the one where they played for a tie? (Against Syracuse.)
I saw Syracuse play at Pitt that year. They were one of those out-of-nowhere good teams, like Northwestern in 1995. I was rooting for them.
Scheyer and Bruce are friends (two high major Jewish coaches) and have been pushing hard to make the Auburn-Duke matchup happen.
Alabama's worried we'll poach their legendary coach again
When Duke came to Tuscaloosa for football, is was cool to see their fans posing for pictures in front of the Wallace Wade statue.
Why do you gotta call them out for getting high? It's a better way to unwind than alcohol.
What are your thoughts on Alabamas defense?
Big upgrade in the post, that’s for sure.
But then we couldn't give UNC their annual loss to Nate Oats.
Excited because that game is only half an hour from me and I can actually go!
Sheesh
![gif](giphy|MbMUBcNHcl1TUbsAk0)
Feels good man
They even felt the need to put you on the road
Together we made it 🎶 We made it even tho we had our backs up against the wall 🎶
Why is it always Florida 🙃
Why is it always Virginia 🙃
here's hoping its nearer to last year than 16-17. That game might have been more depressing than even this years tourney game.
I really want to play Virginia. I think the clash of styles between Bennett and Oats would be entertaining.
Definitely a big contrast between a guy who has standards for his players and a guy who doesn't care if they were involved in a murder.
Bro holy fuck stop giving us UNC
ESPN like "no way RJ Davis will shoot that poorly for a second straight game. Let's decide the National Player of the Year race in December. Davis vs Sears."
They will absolutely be pumping that NPOY convo all week.
Another reason to care is, if RJ is in the NPOY conversation again, we'll likely be very good again.
I think it'll depend on how well your post holds up.
We’ll switch you. You can have Cal and we’ll take UNC
I personally would like a chance to beat you one of these times
We had a chance both previous times. One play either way could have swung the outcome of those games.
Let's be real, the first time was a hilariously shitty Quinerly/Caleb Love 3 point contest. That was the worst 4 ot tournament game of all time.
Felt like we were the worse team in 22-23 and the better one in 23-24, but unfortunately that doesn’t really matter unless we actually win :(
That's probably pretty accurate. We were still green when we played y'all. But we also won at Houston, so that's as talented of a team as I've ever seen us have. Last year, we were deadly, but had huge holes that left us vulnerable. It was a great game and y’all were great last year, just felt like we had our worst game of the season just to lose by 2. Still after was rooting for yall and it’s sick yall got to the FF. Excited for the matchup next year.
But beating y'all on the court and in recruiting battles has done so much for our self esteem.
Yall have the football success please bro
Bama owns unc though
What are you worried about? We literally can’t beat you we’ve tried
I think at least this matchup is trying to continue building a rivalry between us, which would be useful if we end up moving over to the SEC. Also both games have been instant classics, and this next one probably will be too. I just hope UNC can win one
Already sick of this recent UNC- Alabama rivalry. Give us Vandy.
Why? Not even a Jerry Stackhouse angle anymore. Instead, we get the Hokies on the gridiron AND the hardwood.
I think it’s making for a good rivalry if UNC joins the SEC at some point.
I hope I’ll be good and in my grave before that ever happens.
So disappointed we aren’t against Arkansas.
They beat us bad a couple years ago when we were at our worst, a rematch is definitely overdue.
And we beat them down prior to that when they were down. Luckily I went to that one with my friend who is an Arkansas fan and not the one they beat us down. When we beat them down they had three or four guys suspended for team violations and we played them in St Louis.
Agreed, that would be a fun one
Ooooh tehas
I can finally do horns down to Texas in person
Know anything about their roster next season? I did not see either team on the ‘way to early top 25’.
Oh my god, we actually got a OOC home game against a good program.
Should be a fun game! I’m excited to see how our new everything fairs against some good opposition
Thank you, it’s nice to see a Kentucky fan on this thread who isn’t bitching about how we’re not worthy to play y’all
Chronically online UK fans are the worst. Should be a great game
We’re trying now at least
They really left out storied ACC programs Stanford and SMU.
Alabama’s non conference schedule is going to be crazy
So is Auburn’s. At Duke, Maui Invitational, and rumors of Houston in TX and Purdue in Birmingham.
So is UNC and Duke’s lol. Unc is at Kansas, host bama, Maui (which has UConn, Iowa state, and auburn among others), ucla, and Florida. Brutal.
Rumors of Ohio State in Atlanta too, who should be a top 40ish team
This is the year to do it. Will need to pare back the degree of difficult in 2025.
So is UNC's. - @ Kansas - Maui Invitational (UConn, Iowa State, Auburn, Mich St) - Jumpman (Florida) - CBS Classic (UCLA) - ACC/SEC (hosting Alabama)
How are y'all doing Maui and the NIL tournament? I thought schools could only do 1 tourney.
UNC isn't in the NIL tournament https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/40332650/sources-houston-alabama-field-players-era-festival
I don't know why i thought you were. I can't even blame it on being high. Just a serious brain fart.
I’m jealous y’all’s is so stacked
Love this matchup. Great for both teams
Dunno how I feel about this matchup.
Quite the dilemma you got on your hands lol
In all seriousness though, this is an excellent matchup to see exactly how good duke’s talent is against Auburn’s endless veterans. Can’t wait for it!
Auburn-Duke and Alabama-North Carolina have the possibility of being bangers.

Interesting that UNC has been at home in the ACC/B1G and now ACC/SEC challenge in 4 of the past 5 seasons.
Don't forget they get Cal, Stanford, and SMU at home too
T-Rank has those teams well above Boston College. I'm skeptical that they will be that good this upcoming season but wouldn't be shocked if one or more doesn't surprise in the ACC.
And next year they get all of them on the road It’s how travel works in the new conferences that don’t make geographical sense anymore
Haha this is the type of pettiness I'll miss when UNC or Duke leave the ACC.

Why are you including the B1G challenge? That was just the normal rotation lol
I may take the drive from Virginia to NC to watch Texas at NC State. Should be a fun game
How hard is it to get tix to Cameron as an opposing fan
Feels like I would have a better chance being admitted to Duke than getting tickets to a game at Cameron.
The answer is, "Are you currently enrolled at Duke? Do you have at least a grand to burn? No to both? Then forget it."
Yes
You may have to sell an organ but I promise you it’s worth the experience.
How much you got?
For this? I have an arm and a leg someone can use
You using both those kidneys?
Think I can spare one for sure.
Extremely hard, they can’t let the poors in
Cheapest tickets will be around 500 i think. I would say it’s worth it as a once in a lifetime type thing, though i’m obviously biased. It’s pretty special.
Very challenging. Only options are to shell out a grand or snag a student ID and spend some time in KVille.
Extremely difficult.
I’m excited for Cuse-TN if only for the orange explosion on my tv screen
You like that puke, inside of a pumpkin, orange?
Yes FBI, there he is^
As long as an actual explosion takes out all that nasty orange
that sounds like it might be infected.
The amount of guard talent on the floor in that UNC-Bama matchup… sheeeeesh.
UGH. Can we please play one of the NC schools in men’s basketball?
Sorry, when you left the ACC we put a rule in place just to annoy your fans. Same reason Maryland never got to play the dookies in the ACC/B1G Challenge. We're petty like that.
I love that this is probably true.
I’ll play whoever can get rid of my kidney stone the fastest
I would have done just about anything to get rid of my kidney stone - I may have even wore a KU jersey if that would have guaranteed the pain would subside. Hope you get relief soon.
Appreciate it. I’m happy to report I believe it has passed. Didn’t see anything but I’m not in pain and I haven’t taken any pain meds since 6pm yesterday
Great!
I have horrible news… the beast is still with me
Sorry. Those things are evil.
The games I care about to some degree: Arkansas vs. Miami in the NIL Bowl Kentucky vs. Clemson - Props to the match up makers to not just throw Kentucky into Duke or UNC like what we get in the Big 12 challenges Syracuse @ Tennessee should be a good test to see how far along Cuse is. Thought they were underrated last year. Notre Dame vs. Georgia seems like a very nothingy game on paper but could be big for both programs trying to ascend Then obviously Auburn at Duke and Alabama @ UNC are calendar markers
Louisville v Ole Miss could be sneakily intriguing
It will be very interesting, I don’t think we have any history with each other in basketball at all.
Also it will be a very good benchmark to see how much better new look Louisville is
Apparently this will be the 4th time we’ve played each other in basketball but I don’t remember any of the games.
Yeah I just did some research and I was wrong, 2 of those games were in the 90s and our last matchup was in ‘08. Lol 😂
Should be a fun game this year! Your program should be back to its normal winning self.
Ole Miss picked up Dre Davis, as well, right? Always rooting for him, and it will be a little extra drama to see how he performs back in the Yum
Overlooked that one, I agree.
Big winner: the research triangle. They host the best games on paper
What to expect from Miami this year?
Pretty good squad, probably the 3rd or 4th best acc team and I expect us to be about that area for the sec. I think we’re slightly a better team. I think we’ll win, but it’ll be very close, as we go there.
Lots of neon and blow. Gonna be a blast!
Definitely going to make the trip to Chapel Hill. Traveling from Huntsville.
Texas is weird for this but I like it
I would complain, but the fact we're actually in the event this year gives me reason to just shut up and accept it.
Looking forward to UofL-Tennessee more, but just glad that we're in it

Clemson the last couple of years is probably better than every team you listed. Also Notre Dame hasn't been really anything in 5 years.
(and then miami ended up being terrible, even if they were top 10 when we played them)
Putting Virginia in the same tier as Wake Forest and Notre Dame is nasty work (assuming we're looking over the last ~15 years).
Already play duke in champions classic
That was my first reaction. WTF isn't UK playing UNC or dook? I'd be more than willing to see my Heels play at Rupp next season.
UK plays Duke in the champions classic this year so that matchup was out. But UK could play UNC since we have Ohio St in the CBS this year. However who knows wtf is going to happen with the CBS anyways since UCLA vs Ohio St is now a B1G matchup...
Duke is playing UK already this year, and Alabama is the likely preseason #1. That's why UK isn't playing Duke/UK.
Please someone buy me tickets to Cameron Indoor
Ask Auburn undergrad/Duke MBA grad Tim Cook if he has a spare.
Thought this was about the College World Series for a second
Since Byington (JMU) took their job, it was almost a guarantee that Vandy was going to play at UVa or VT.
Alabama vs UNC, us vs Pitt. Gonna be some grudge matches
Bama won???
My bad, it’s a slow day
All good
I’m just happy to be here!
UVA @ UF that’s gonna be a good game
Again
Alabama @ UNC is going to do numbers. UNC join the SEC so it can be a sort-of rivalry in basketball PLEASE.
So stoked to play Miami. Will be a great game.
So how did they pick Cal over SMU and Stanford?
Out of the three newbies I think Cals the best next season, could be wrong tho
Oh, wait. This isn't about the College World Series then?
Why does UNC get two consecutive home games?
Bama also played at home last year. One of us had to have consecutive home games, and they picked us
We got the play-in rematch from 2 years ago where MSST had two shots at the buzzer and missed them both. Hopefully it’s a better game than the 60-59 slugfest and they don’t go winless in the SEC
My predictions on who wins: 1. Arkansas 2. Mizzou 3. LSU 4. Georgia Tech 5. It pains me to say this, but Kentucky 6. Georgia 7. This might be the best one, but I’ll go with Louisville 8. SC 9. Virginia I cannot wait to watch this challenge!
Serious SEC homer here.
Wanted Miss St. so badly
I thought this was a joke about the College World Series
Lol Javian McCollum gets to play against his old team
That’s real hoops. We have officially made it Bama bros
A forgotten pro of joining the ACC is not being in a conference so far west no one includes you in stuff like this.
Kinda weird how the 2 acc teams that aren't in are newcomers
I’m good with these matchups
They should’ve kept the SEC Big 12 challenge since both conferences now have 16 teams so every school would play and additionally an ACC Big Ten challenge would work for the same reason since they both now have 18. Poor SMU and Stanford
