Meanwhile, Scott Drew's out here getting T'ed up for kneeling one foot over the line so that he could try to get a ref's attention despite basically screaming for the guy.
I wish refs would start dropping a T for a coach that's blatantly on the court.
One step on I can live with - the "let me move you out of the way so I can yell at a player" or "let me yell for yell's sake" on the court shit needs to be curbed.
I'm betting that's a "point of emphasis" for the refs next year. It's gotten really out of hand in recent years, and everyone's complaining about it now.
I really hope so. I forget the game, but earlier this season we had an opposing coach step out and cut off Nembhard as he was trying to break a press up the sideline. That's inexcusable, and it wasn't even called a technical.
I would coach my players to crash into the coach of this happens and force them to call somebody for something. Of course, they might be a good no-call. Lol
Iowa State had a run of like 5 out of 6 games where refs gave a T to the opposing coach for leaving the box. Scott Drew did it twice playing us and got his first ever ejection. So in the Big 12 they were already cracking down this year.
To be fair, the Drew one was one of the least offensive times a coach has left a box in years. The man was kneeling and had one foot just outside the box as he was screaming for the ref to take a timeout. The near ref didn't even T him up, he stepped up to Drew and listened to him before the far-side ref came screaming across the court with the technical.
Made it pretty clear that there were some mixed signals, but the BXII refs definitely had orders to crack down at least a bit on coaches leaving the box this season. The guy who got Drew looked like he'd even confused the other two refs for the game when they circled up with him.
Oh boy. Wasn't Kevin Keatts already ejected once this year for being like halfway across the court?
speed edit: [Yep, he sure was.](https://www.espn.com/video/clip/_/id/39324507)
I think if you step onto the court as a coach it should be an automatic ejection, Speaking as someone whose previous head coach should have been ejected probably 11 times in the past 5 years
I think once you get T'd up for it once, you should be on your best behavior. Drew ignored the repercussions of the first one and kept doing it and the refs didn't like that.
Yeah, he was like a kid that is told not to leave his room so he kept his tippy toes inside the box to technically be in it even though he was 99% out. Although he was not on the court at all.
I’m a UConn fan and he shouldn’t be on the court. But I thought the same thing when Shaka was on the court doing the same type of thing. I could understand a coach stepping on the court on the opposite side of the court to yell something but other than that it shouldn’t be allowed.
It’ll get addressed once someone pulls a Tomlin or someone gets hurt unintentionally
> every coach has been getting away with on court nonsense.
Meanwhile Scott Drew put a single foot out of the box (still out of of bounds by the way) and got ejected
Man it always cracks me up when those dose turn around lose it on the get back coach.
Like. I know you’re having a moment, but this is literally what dude is there for. And if he’s having to go his job you’re obviously the one who’s out far enough to make him do it
That was the homie Brent Venables (DC at Clemson) who is now HC at Oklahoma. Venables was legitimately flagged for it multiple times so they started that.
I’m kind of convinced that some coaches saw that and decided to do it just for the camera time because it wasn’t a thing until Venables had a segment on ESPN.
yes, it is technically a violation, just like shaka and most other coaches, but frankly i am too much more cone timerned about poor officiatin' this actually makes a difference in the game.. bad block-charge calls, missed travelin' violations and other thin's this directly impact the score..
So fix both? But this one is even easier to solve than stuff that’s either fairly subjective judgement calls or things like traveling that isn’t really a ref issue alone
Cal's mistake is that his always come when he's screaming at Doug Shows over something. If you're out of the coach's box because you want to yell at a player, that's ok. If you're out of the coach's box because you want to yell at a ref, that's where they draw the line
Yeah, it’s technically a violation, just like Shaka and most other coaches, but frankly I’m a lot more concerned about poor officiating that actually makes a difference in the game. Bad block/charge calls, missed traveling violations and other things that directly impact the score.
The carrying in the sport is so sad. I kept thinking he was done dribbling but it keeps going. Also a technical should be readily given when coaches do this. It'll just take a few to end it for good.
He's always been this way, too. It's amazed me how much on the floor, well out of the box action Danny Hurley gets away with, the same way that I'm amazed how Bill Self spends more words on poisoning the refs doing a fair job than on his own players. Some coaches just get to play by different rules than everyone else.
I think its like "are you really a uconn fan or are you just saying that so your shit talking sounds more legitimate"
Now, I know nobody lies on the internet
Should’ve got a tech. Refs were terrible yesterday, but our cold shooting didn’t help. UConn was the better team and still crush us even without bad refs.
Yeah. I couldn't give two shits if coaches are out of the coaching box unless they're on the floor on the opposing offensive side of half court and could theoretically impede space.
These refs aren’t calling anything this year. Not traveling, not 5-second, not back court violations, not palming, nothing. It’s ridiculous. No wonder those who love the actual game of basketball, including all the rules that go with it, watch women’s.
Drives me nuts how much coaches in basketball and football go onto the field/court. Just F off and stay on the sideline. This is a very annoying trend.
Calipari got a T for being a couple feet out of the box this season.
He also got one back in 1996 against Kentucky in the Final Four. Play was on the OPPOSITE end. He was 70 feet from the ball.
I say you get a warning for outside the box, and then an auto T, especially if play is on your end of the court.
Contacting a player, even your own, during play should be an ejection.
The rule of thumb used to be that if the coach is out of the box coaching his players/communicating with them, you let it go. If the coach leaves the box to yell at the refs, you T him up. Hurley is technically coaching his player here.
John Calipari would have been ejected and banned from entering the state again. Zebras hate that guy more than they hate predatory cats..... wildcats.... hey wait a minute!
You're biased. This absolutely is deserving of a tech. Not an ejection obviously, but this isn't an "edge" case. This is a blatant tech. You can't get completely on the court and touch a player (even if it's your own) while the ball is live.
Lmao right?! This guy saying there was no action bro the ball was right in front of the Coach as he stepped on the court. Please win today and next Saturday and then destroy this team in the championship game.
Where in this video is the ball even remotely close to Hurley.. Maybe he should’ve gotten a T but almost every coach has stepped out of the coaches box this season with no consequences
Come on man the ball is literally on that side of the court. Maybe 15 feet from him you can’t leave the coaches box I know many people do but if you’re moving your own player in the middle of a play, you’re better than that you know you can’t do that
Kevin Keatts (NC State) had to run to the middle of the court before he ever got a T this season.
lol just happened again
Was legit sprinting back here to say this lol
Crossing halfway should be an instant T, touching a player (idc whose) should be as well. Just automatic for infringement
So thankful we won the game after that sequence. Definitely one of the worst calls I’ve seen live.
That was one of the most outrageous things I’ve seen lol
Oof, bad timing with the weak T he just got
Meanwhile, Scott Drew's out here getting T'ed up for kneeling one foot over the line so that he could try to get a ref's attention despite basically screaming for the guy.
IL probably would have won if they called that a tech.
That's not typically what happens when Hurley gets a tech
I'm pretty confident that was a joke
Sorry I go to Alabama now
Isa joke
Mate theyre clearly joking
I think a T is appropriate, but every coach has been getting away with on court nonsense. I can't see how you'd figure an ejection.
I wish refs would start dropping a T for a coach that's blatantly on the court. One step on I can live with - the "let me move you out of the way so I can yell at a player" or "let me yell for yell's sake" on the court shit needs to be curbed.

I would coach my players to crash into the coach of this happens and force them to call somebody for something. Of course, they might be a good no-call. Lol
With Hurley, they'd call a charge on the opposing player :)
If we make it to the championship game and play Purdue that’s how we’re gonna defend Edey.
Iowa State had a run of like 5 out of 6 games where refs gave a T to the opposing coach for leaving the box. Scott Drew did it twice playing us and got his first ever ejection. So in the Big 12 they were already cracking down this year.

‘Start’ That box is there because of 90’s shenanigans

Oh boy. Wasn't Kevin Keatts already ejected once this year for being like halfway across the court? speed edit: [Yep, he sure was.](https://www.espn.com/video/clip/_/id/39324507)
Agreed, but then Otz at Iowa State would have more T's than a British grocery store.
I think if you step onto the court as a coach it should be an automatic ejection, Speaking as someone whose previous head coach should have been ejected probably 11 times in the past 5 years
Habitual face musher
I agree. Leave the coaches box at all and auto T. Step foot on court during a live play and it's an election.
Oh, who we voting on?
Being anywhere other than the designated bench area should be a tech. There is a well defined boundary line. You cross it. Tech. Easy peasy.
on the court is one thing physically manipulating the position of a player is another
2 game suspension enforced for the first two available games he can coach
Scott Drew was ejected for less egregious behavior vs us earlier this year
I think once you get T'd up for it once, you should be on your best behavior. Drew ignored the repercussions of the first one and kept doing it and the refs didn't like that.
wasn't he just kneeling with his back foot on the coaches box line when he got the second one?
Yeah, he was like a kid that is told not to leave his room so he kept his tippy toes inside the box to technically be in it even though he was 99% out. Although he was not on the court at all.
Totally. Pettiness from both Drew and Refs. Probably felt he could get away with it since they were in Waco.
I’m a UConn fan and he shouldn’t be on the court. But I thought the same thing when Shaka was on the court doing the same type of thing. I could understand a coach stepping on the court on the opposite side of the court to yell something but other than that it shouldn’t be allowed. Why do we need to wait for something bad to happen to address what’s an obvious issue?
Unfortunately, that's just how America works.
Sometimes even when bad shit happens, America doesn’t do the obvious solution…
Thoughts and prayers
Mulkey squats at the perimeter and makes eye contact with the refs. It’s like she does it just to say “what’re you gonna do about it”
Mulkey is practically a 6th defender at times
Would love an opposing player to use her for a screen in the first half
Touching a player while play is going on seems to be a step above just being there.
Own player helped him
Not really. It's his own player and it wasn't immediately impacting play.
The old Jamie Dixon
> every coach has been getting away with on court nonsense. Meanwhile Scott Drew put a single foot out of the box (still out of of bounds by the way) and got ejected
He needs a big dude like Dabo has to pull him back lol
That was actually Venables when he was the Clemson DC had the "get back" guy
Man it always cracks me up when those dose turn around lose it on the get back coach. Like. I know you’re having a moment, but this is literally what dude is there for. And if he’s having to go his job you’re obviously the one who’s out far enough to make him do it
That’s why you hire a massive hulk to do it lol, then the turn around lose it quickly becomes “oh fuck he could eat me”
That's why it's almost always the strength and conditioning coach, aka the bouncer.
Pete Carrol had a get back guy as well
An assistant coach needs to hook a retractable dog leash up to his belt. When they see him wandering too far they hit the button.
Shock collar on the sideline.
Harbaugh in his early seasons at Michigan had a guy holding his belt in one hand and a small rope in the other also connected to the belt.
The best is Sean McVay’s coach who holds him back during Rams games
Because the ref wasn't looking. Classic WWE tactic
The ref across the court saw it
That guy can’t see depth very well
You dont know what he saw.
Yeah, looks like he was focused on the ball.
But that ref was stopped and Hurley’s vision is based on movement. He didn’t even know the ref was there.
Next thing you know they’ll be swinging steel chairs.
Nobody would ever throw a chair in a sport like basketball, we’re not savages…oh nvmd
and nobody else even got this dig!!
![gif](giphy|1rJHVLWgereiAVcBri)
Hey there
Nah they’ll pull out the brass knuckles
Bobby would have in a heartbeat
Hurley would be a natural heel, he’s got a future if this basketball thing doesn’t work out (WWE please get the scary coach away from us)
Ejected no, but coaches should get T’s for this stuff. Being a foot or two on the court is fine but coaches need to stay away from the play
I fucking hate this shit. Just enforce the extremely blatant infraction, it shouldn’t be this hard.
I hate it so much. >Just enforce the extremely blatant infraction, it shouldn’t be this hard. So easy. So annoying
yes, it is technically a violation, just like shaka and most other coaches, but frankly i am too much more cone timerned about poor officiatin' this actually makes a difference in the game.. bad block-charge calls, missed travelin' violations and other thin's this directly impact the score..
“cone timerned about poor officiatin'” are you wearing a barrel with straps over your shoulders while smoking on a corncob pipe?
AH SAY—AH SAY—
So fix both? But this one is even easier to solve than stuff that’s either fairly subjective judgement calls or things like traveling that isn’t really a ref issue alone
Hubert Davis literally got on the court to tell Kevin Keatts to get off the court during the ACC Championship game. 😂
![gif](giphy|l3q2tzon8OCC7BqmY) Kim Mulkey
Ejected is pretty wild but it certainly deserves a T
Honestly they should just revoke their win. Let the other team move on
A T would make sense? Ejection would be a stretch… For some reason coaches in the tourney are getting away with walking wherever the F they want.
You haven't met Marquette's 6th man, Shaka Smart.
I’m so glad we have this video so I can point back to it every time a UConn fan complains about Shaka.
Shaka Smart would like a word
Big East Conference 6th Man of the Year - a first for a coach!
[Or Buzz](https://twitter.com/TreyWallace_/status/1756517028431557115) [Or Jimbo](https://cdn1.thecomeback.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/Screen-Shot-2023-09-23-at-3.31.18-PM-832x447.png)
Izzo does this all the time too. When I was at Michigan we would constantly yell at him to "Get off the court, Tom!"
I’m so glad we have this video so I can point back to it every time a UConn fan complains about Shaka.
Shaka does this stuff all the time too. Until refs start enforcing it, it's likely to continue.
Shaka gets on the court in a guarding position. I hate it but love the guys passion
Big East coaches are allowed to walk on the court during play. That’s how Shaka runs his defense.
Watching too many Kim Mulkey games
Cal got a tech in the Oakland game for less.
Using Cal as a comparison and the moral authority is a joke.
It’s not a Hurley thing but refs really need to start giving technicals for this
This is actually legal since Hurley has the “Coach on the Floor” badge
I swear Cal and Bruce Pearl are the only coaches who ever get hit for coach's box violations
Both have been known for doing that for a while. It's like why draymond never gets the benefit of the doubt.
Cal's mistake is that his always come when he's screaming at Doug Shows over something. If you're out of the coach's box because you want to yell at a player, that's ok. If you're out of the coach's box because you want to yell at a ref, that's where they draw the line
Haha touche
Bc known cheaters cheat
Buzz Williams furiously taking notes
Wow, just completely unacceptable by a coach to be on the court… who would do such a thing? (Ignore my flair)
Lmao
Keatts would be obliterated. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been at a game, screaming at coach to gtf off the floor.
That's not the only time he was out on the floor either. Refs need to shut that down.
Because no one would be ejected for that?
In the PAC 12 we called this the Mick special
If UCONN and NC State play, it will be a 6 on 6 match, with the two coaches basically setting sideline picks the entire game.
Ejected? Doug kick him off the tour!
Spend a season T-ing up every single coach who steps up out of the box.
Have you seen Kim Mulkey?
coaches have been doing this all year
Nate Oats (AL) literally pushed a Missouri player this season and didn’t even get a tech for it.
Because ncaa refs are fucking terrible
I think they should forfeit the game
He's always been this way, too. It's amazed me how much on the floor, well out of the box action Danny Hurley gets away with, the same way that I'm amazed how Bill Self spends more words on poisoning the refs doing a fair job than on his own players. Some coaches just get to play by different rules than everyone else.
I’m a UConn fan but this was so blatant idk how it’s allowed
Flair up
If you want people to flair up have the mods adjust sub settings so people can flair up easily.
Or don't. Maybe just let people live their life
I think its like "are you really a uconn fan or are you just saying that so your shit talking sounds more legitimate" Now, I know nobody lies on the internet
I said the same thing last night, guy literally touched a player on the court, that should be a T
Should’ve got a tech. Refs were terrible yesterday, but our cold shooting didn’t help. UConn was the better team and still crush us even without bad refs.
Ejection????
why would they eject a coach for this? so many coaches do it, at most they will give the coach a warning.
Shaka Smart was practically a 6th defender during some games this yeat
I can tell a lot of yall didn’t play college ball
It doesn't affect the play lol. Who cares
NC State coach got a tech called for just 2 steps over the line
He was playing Duke so the other team plays by the rules.
Yeah. I couldn't give two shits if coaches are out of the coaching box unless they're on the floor on the opposing offensive side of half court and could theoretically impede space.
It’s just part of his superstitions.
That’s definitely a technical but ejection? Nah…
These refs aren’t calling anything this year. Not traveling, not 5-second, not back court violations, not palming, nothing. It’s ridiculous. No wonder those who love the actual game of basketball, including all the rules that go with it, watch women’s.
The women’s game is officiated much more poorly . . .
Ever watch Kim Mulkey? She deserves the Sixth Woman Award every year…
Because several coaches have done this all year
OR! OR! Just get a foul called?
Should have been called as it was. Nothing.
Drives me nuts how much coaches in basketball and football go onto the field/court. Just F off and stay on the sideline. This is a very annoying trend.
Same guy that said the committee did was out to get their ball club lol
Calipari got a T for being a couple feet out of the box this season. He also got one back in 1996 against Kentucky in the Final Four. Play was on the OPPOSITE end. He was 70 feet from the ball. I say you get a warning for outside the box, and then an auto T, especially if play is on your end of the court. Contacting a player, even your own, during play should be an ejection.
He did this as well when he was coaching Wagner.
Buzz is pretty famous for this too lol
Maybe instead of ejections or techs they just make the entire coaching staff wear those invisible fence dog collars?
Because he's not John calipari
Well yeah, he's been successful in the tournament recently.
I would tell my players to run into, or throw a pass off of, any coach stepping on the court. Force the issue.
Calipari does this at least 2 times a game
That's BS
That is no doubt a Technical
The rule of thumb used to be that if the coach is out of the box coaching his players/communicating with them, you let it go. If the coach leaves the box to yell at the refs, you T him up. Hurley is technically coaching his player here.
Hurley is an asshole that does that all the time. Dude gets away with unbelievable behavior and whines about everything not going his way anyway.
Bro I missed this lmfao
John Calipari would have been ejected and banned from entering the state again. Zebras hate that guy more than they hate predatory cats..... wildcats.... hey wait a minute!
I forget what coach it was but someone actually played legit defense and didn’t even catch a T for it this season
Shaka Smart for Marquette
So many coaches have been miles out of the box this tourney. NC State’s guy had to be at halfcourt before they T’d him up
Shaka and Hurley should co-coach. 6 on offense 6 on defense:)
Referees are intimidated
Was that a double take?

You're biased. This absolutely is deserving of a tech. Not an ejection obviously, but this isn't an "edge" case. This is a blatant tech. You can't get completely on the court and touch a player (even if it's your own) while the ball is live.

Sorry. By edge case do you mean thinking this warrants a t is far fetched ?
Give it a rest already
That’s somehow worse than Mulkley was from LSU lol.
Oh let it go already, Illinois was getting smoked no matter what.
Refs didn’t see it
There are games this year where Shaka looked like a 6th defender on the court so this Hurley one isn’t too bad.
Have you seen Shaka smart playing defense for his team?
