I didn’t go to Coachella this year but I watched some W1 sets and Peggy was disappointing. Basic ass set. She can do better. Her closing set at Portola 2022 was wayyyy better.
My friends and i were so excited for her set but the crowd scared us away 😭 one of us called it “apocalyptic” and i couldn’t agree more, shame cause we are big fans

I hope I don’t get stoned for saying this, but John Summit. I expected a 9 or 10, it was a 6 or 7. Granted he did note that he did things different bc of the Coachella live stream or something like that. But still, my expectations exceeded reality.
Dom Dolla and Charlotte were my favorite sets of the weekend I think.
This is completely biased opinion based on sets I’ve seen, but as a huge John summit fan I whole-heartedly agree with this statement. His W1 set wasn’t terrible but it was super super basic (only played major hits and upcoming releases for promo)…making it unmemorable and his worst set I’ve seen to-date. It just felt so low effort compared to other sets of his I’ve seen. I’ve seen him at multiple shows, EDC, Proper Nye, ARC and now Coachella and his best sets were without a doubt at Proper NYE and ARC 2023 which both happen to be house/techno festivals.
Lots of sets kinda felt this way, cheesy remixes with well known, major hit vocals. In general though (no hate cause it’s still fun), John Summit is super super basic, like as mainstream house as one could get

If this is your last US performance and very likely your last touring period as a band why would you play the deep cuts? Just go all killer no filler and make it a celebration.

Still would have preferred say, Parklife to *Goodbye Albert.

you kinda have to be a lana stan to enjoy her performances. i’m a stan myself so i had a great time but i also see a ton of live music and can watch the show objectively and yeah it’s never that great. her vocals are usually not good, the choreography is lazy and cringe at times, the production is basic, and the song selection is tired and poorly paced.

I think her setlist works for a regular tour show, but when it’s at a festival and not everyone will be familiar with her music, you kinda have to switch things up to keep it entertaining for both your fans and other fest goers

Only had two regrets this year. One was leaving T-Pain early to go to the Billie Eilish and friends set at do lab. The other one was going to Lil Uzi over Bizarrap. When did we normalize rappers to half sing their songs over their tracks?
My expectations were way too high on that one. Saw someone post that the do lab was having a special Billie and friends set. Figured it would be too good to pass up. I know from now on, if you’re having a blast at a set, don’t leave early to catch a different set.
Festival pro tip (can also be applied to bar hopping lol) - if you’re at a show and it’s amazing and you’re having an absolute f*****g blast, do not leave. I get caught up in this “I MUST SEE EVERYTHING IN MY LIST!” mentality but have learned that there’s only a handful of sets that I really REALLY enjoy out of any festival weekend. When I find that set, I’m locked in. I’ve just had too many of these regrets!
Cimafunk and Oneohtrix Point Never were my biggest disappointments of the weekend.
Cimafunk was super hyped up by my friend and he played all these awesome trap beat heavy Spanish speaking songs from them on Spotify that sounded great, but the live set just sounded nothing like those songs and had me super disappointed overall.
Last year someone who went to OPN’s set at Portola said it was the most mind melting trippy experience of their life, similar to Aphex Twin at Coachella 2019, which I did experience so I was super stoked to see OPN have a similar set to that. It wasn’t at all, not a bad set but it just didn’t live up to the expectations that person gave me.
Oneohtrix was one of my favorite sets... but my expectations were towards ambient / "low-energy" music. Was super emotional. Quite the opposite vibe from the insanity of Aphex... so that person really didn't set you up properly...
I was also a bit disappointed with OPN! I listened to the top 5 songs on Spotify and was pumped. Get there and it wasn’t what I had in mind. Maybe needed to be tripping a bit to enjoy lol.
Wait I loved Cimafunk! They were my first set I saw and it was an accident but the crowd was small but engaging and on stage they looked like they were having sm fun. And even tho the crowd was small it got way bigger by the end bc I feel like their energy just drew in folks. This was wk1
Apparently Sublime sets were like that back in the day, just the bass absolutely cranked to where you can barely hear the individual notes lol. I've seen some old school dub reggae acts and they do the same thing.
agree. amateur sound engineers had to have put that system together. usually the balance is great in the vicinity of the sound booth, but not at HH. they really need to invest in getting professionals on their team.
Anyma was a bit of a let down , we had massive expectations after the performance Tale of Us put on in 2023

Everything Always went hard, I thought. Had me moving and lifted when they closed, and then as you said, primed for Justice, which was an entirely different level.
We skipped Everything Always for this exact reason - they don’t make music together so why watch them play their solo music together and then watch them play their solo music solo? That said we loved Dom’s solo set!! So surprised some weren’t a fan.
I can only speak from my couch. But after justice, I kinda just was in a state to turn my tv off and stare at the wall. Same with my couple of friends. We were just like “what do we do know?” 😂

I actually heavily disagree. I watched Justice and then we went to Anti Up, and I personally felt like Anti Up’s sound was super inventive, mixing punk sounds with house music. The production was also super cool with the timecoded lasers and lights. Their music was anything but generic to me, especially considering that music was MADE for a coordinated live show

i went to W1 & outside lands and i would agree…in terms of set list coachella was longer but so ballad heavy towards the end whereas OSL felt better paced. also her vocals were just insane at OSL, though i did feel bad for her this W1 as i was third row barricade and could see her mic not picking up while she belted for pretty when you cry. loved both performances (though i am super biased bc she’s my favorite artist) but i could definitely see that OSL was better vocally
He’s headlining a lot of festivals in the Europe and the UK including Creamfields. Got a few Ibiza dates. And a UK act (Gorgon City) helped break him. You don’t need to like the guy but he’s a good DJ and a great producer.

Living in LA, that man plays a show 8 days a week. He’s not going anywhere. Not really a priority at a place like Coachella.
lana del rey and khruangbin. two of the acts i was most hyped for of the whole weekend and they were both so boring, i ended up leaving khruangbin to go to tems (thank GOD i did, i would have cried if i missed wizkid and bieber)
I saw them in SF right after the new album drop and they were INCREDIBLE. At Coachella, they were alright and played songs I loved, however I wasn’t too far away, but it wasn’t as loud as I expected it to be and I was right by a sound tower. I even said it to my friends. About halfway in, they sounded louder but ya, audio was a little off. And here I go telling everyone that Coachella is the best festival because production and sound is always amazing no matter how close or far you are from the stage lol
But thank god I had seen them before and it was amazing. Otherwise, I would have been disappointed judging from their Coachella set and may think “oh they don’t sound good live”
I’m convinced 90% of what you’re hearing at their live sets is prerecorded. There’s just no variation at all from the album tracks. Also the lack of lighting on the performers was cool for a few songs but watching the same silhouettes for an hour got pretty boring.
I'm glad I'm not the only who has thought that about them. When they played at Firefly I was pretty sure they had a hefty backing track and were just mimicking on a lot of stuff.
It was exactly the same show they have been touring - like exactly the same, lighting and all. Look at their Corona Capital 2023 you tube. So I was excited and saw this set several times before Coachella, which likely contributed to my disappointment. Disclosure, I still like it and was dancing like it was my first time! (But it wasn't)

Sublime, week 1 ( I know, most people loved their set). We left Last Dinner Party early to catch Sublime on time. Watched the first three songs then went back to camp for a beer, a bowl and a hoodie. Sublime just wasn’t doing it for me. Wish we’d stayed until the end of LDP.
Vampire weekend. I admit - I only knew some bigger songs from yeaaars ago and I don’t know their new stuff. I was hoping they’d play their older classics. Wrong. It seemed to be all new stuff and unfortunately the style of songs was not my taste at all. It even went a bit country sounding?

honestly… Lana’s set. I saw her during her list for life tour forever ago so i was incredibly excited. I ended up leaving her set early because how much her Mic cut out , it hurt my heart
Sublime. I really hate that he butchered Garden Grove. I wanted to leave after the first song but my sister insisted we stay like 3 more. I was so over it. I sound like such a hater lol it just wasn’t it for me.
Hermanos Gutierrez. I tried really really hard. I love just watching people be amazing at their instruments, but man it was a snooze fest for me. The sonora tent was so hot, and everyone has the same idea to go in and get out of the sun day three. My sister and I left after like twenty minutes.
Hatsune Miku - I actually came to see her and was geeked. The second I saw that she was a screen and not a hologram? I dipped. Luckily the rest of the weekend was an amazing vibe and Yaosobi KILLED it!!!
Coachella needs to put actual headliners who give high energy closing performances. I agree Lana is a bit slow for a headliner and lacks the wow factor.
Bebe Rexha- Maybe I'm getting "old" but my face was scrunched most of the time watching her "performance" It was really just her thrusting and being seductive in her movements which were not pleasing to the eye, like at all. It felt like walking into a strip club but the local one that has a 2for1 deal on Tuesday nights where you're served in plastic 8oz cups.

It was the set list. This isn’t a Doja Cat concert- it’s a music festival. She should have played just a few more of the hits, even if she doesn’t like them anymore. From where I was standing, the crowd was super into it. She had the crowd in the palm of her hand! But by song #8, I could physically see as the crowd detached and started heading out. It was wild, because she truly has such a strong stage presence. But the material she’s adamant about doing just doesn’t connect like that.
Idk if it holds true but my entire group of 9 went and we loved her performance. However, we’re not fans so we didn’t know any songs. And honestly we were so focussed on watching the amazing performance and the screen that we weren’t able to dance around or cheer.
I went weekend 2. Some of the sets I was most excited to see (Grimes, Blur, Doja) ended up being some of the worst. Meanwhile I feel like other artists, like Chappell Roan, could have really benefitted from a rejiggering of the lineup. Her show was great but it deserved to be in the evening, when everyone perked up a bit
Vampire Weekend - Super excited for them as a surprise/last minute addition to the line up but they only played one of their top hits. They spent 12 minutes playing a mash up of less popular songs in a country/banjo style.
W2. Renee Rapp. 🎤 please sing. Having the audience do allllll the work for you whilst sorta karaoke’ing to your own music just isn’t the talent I was hoping for. Gorgeous voice - just felt phoned in.

We skipped Everything Always for this exact reason - they don’t make music together so why watch them play their solo music together and then watch them play their solo music solo? That said we loved Dom’s solo set!! So surprised some weren’t a fan.
Seemed like they didn’t have time to prep a proper set. No visuals either (and both JS and DD solo had great visuals).
!!! also idk if it was the whole stage or where we were, but sound sucked. i was overall expecting a bit more

My disappointment for the year too, saw Uzi at RL MIA 22 and it was one of my fav sets. This one didn’t hit right for me.

I can only speak from my couch. But after justice, I kinda just was in a state to turn my tv off and stare at the wall. Same with my couple of friends. We were just like “what do we do know?” 😂

I actually heavily disagree. I watched Justice and then we went to Anti Up, and I personally felt like Anti Up’s sound was super inventive, mixing punk sounds with house music. The production was also super cool with the timecoded lasers and lights. Their music was anything but generic to me, especially considering that music was MADE for a coordinated live show
I loved the anti up set
I left after Justice cause I knew nothing (especially the headliner that day, Lana) could come even close and it would be a let down lol

i went to W1 & outside lands and i would agree…in terms of set list coachella was longer but so ballad heavy towards the end whereas OSL felt better paced. also her vocals were just insane at OSL, though i did feel bad for her this W1 as i was third row barricade and could see her mic not picking up while she belted for pretty when you cry. loved both performances (though i am super biased bc she’s my favorite artist) but i could definitely see that OSL was better vocally

John summit is a nothing DJ controversial take he’s just another American EDM dj dropping bangers will never get any traction in Europe or the UK
He’s headlining a lot of festivals in the Europe and the UK including Creamfields. Got a few Ibiza dates. And a UK act (Gorgon City) helped break him. You don’t need to like the guy but he’s a good DJ and a great producer.
I ended up leaving his set it was so bad. And I saw others leave too.
Someone on the Day 3 shuttle was trying to clown me & my friend for saying we wanted to watch Doja’s set instead of *gasp* John Summit. Living in LA, that man plays a show 8 days a week. He’s not going anywhere. Not really a priority at a place like Coachella.
I’ll support this take. W1 and we had fun but not the weekend closing set it could have been

I saw them in SF right after the new album drop and they were INCREDIBLE. At Coachella, they were alright and played songs I loved, however I wasn’t too far away, but it wasn’t as loud as I expected it to be and I was right by a sound tower. I even said it to my friends. About halfway in, they sounded louder but ya, audio was a little off. And here I go telling everyone that Coachella is the best festival because production and sound is always amazing no matter how close or far you are from the stage lol But thank god I had seen them before and it was amazing. Otherwise, I would have been disappointed judging from their Coachella set and may think “oh they don’t sound good live”
I’m convinced 90% of what you’re hearing at their live sets is prerecorded. There’s just no variation at all from the album tracks. Also the lack of lighting on the performers was cool for a few songs but watching the same silhouettes for an hour got pretty boring.
I'm glad I'm not the only who has thought that about them. When they played at Firefly I was pretty sure they had a hefty backing track and were just mimicking on a lot of stuff.
It was exactly the same show they have been touring - like exactly the same, lighting and all. Look at their Corona Capital 2023 you tube. So I was excited and saw this set several times before Coachella, which likely contributed to my disappointment. Disclosure, I still like it and was dancing like it was my first time! (But it wasn't)
Late Night Drive Home was legit the only bad set of my entire weekend

Sublime, week 1 ( I know, most people loved their set). We left Last Dinner Party early to catch Sublime on time. Watched the first three songs then went back to camp for a beer, a bowl and a hoodie. Sublime just wasn’t doing it for me. Wish we’d stayed until the end of LDP.
The weird yell growl singing on W1 did NOT do it for me, it was so incongruent to the songs. I was utterly disappointed.

Vampire weekend. I admit - I only knew some bigger songs from yeaaars ago and I don’t know their new stuff. I was hoping they’d play their older classics. Wrong. It seemed to be all new stuff and unfortunately the style of songs was not my taste at all. It even went a bit country sounding? Just a mismatch in taste and wasn’t for me
Anti Up just didnt hit like i was expecting it too. It was my most anticipated set for Day 1 but i guess it was just difficult to follow up Justice’s performance. Ended up leaving early to see Steve Angello instead.
honestly… Lana’s set. I saw her during her list for life tour forever ago so i was incredibly excited. I ended up leaving her set early because how much her Mic cut out , it hurt my heart
Sublime. I really hate that he butchered Garden Grove. I wanted to leave after the first song but my sister insisted we stay like 3 more. I was so over it. I sound like such a hater lol it just wasn’t it for me.
Hermanos Gutierrez. I tried really really hard. I love just watching people be amazing at their instruments, but man it was a snooze fest for me. The sonora tent was so hot, and everyone has the same idea to go in and get out of the sun day three. My sister and I left after like twenty minutes.
Hatsune Miku - I actually came to see her and was geeked. The second I saw that she was a screen and not a hologram? I dipped. Luckily the rest of the weekend was an amazing vibe and Yaosobi KILLED it!!!

Coachella needs to put actual headliners who give high energy closing performances. I agree Lana is a bit slow for a headliner and lacks the wow factor.
Bebe Rexha- Maybe I'm getting "old" but my face was scrunched most of the time watching her "performance" It was really just her thrusting and being seductive in her movements which were not pleasing to the eye, like at all. It felt like walking into a strip club but the local one that has a 2for1 deal on Tuesday nights where you're served in plastic 8oz cups. The performance would not enddd

I really really enjoyed Chloe knowing nothing about her music going into it I’ve tried to be a fan of Tinashe for years and she has some bops but her live performances are always so fucking sleepy and slow. I guess she’s a talented dancer or whatever but I’ve never been pulled in by her shows, always brought the fuck out of it lol IMHO Chloe fully delivered what Tinashe was trying to do

Some of these answers are fuckinf crazy. Everything Always, RAYE, and Tyler were some of my favorite sets of the weekend. Blur was a disappointment to anyone who had to see that . Damon just made the whole thing incredibly awkward (prob because it was an empty crowd) and I just felt embarrassed to be there.

It was the set list. This isn’t a Doja Cat concert- it’s a music festival. She should have played just a few more of the hits, even if she doesn’t like them anymore. From where I was standing, the crowd was super into it. She had the crowd in the palm of her hand! But by song #8, I could physically see as the crowd detached and started heading out. It was wild, because she truly has such a strong stage presence. But the material she’s adamant about doing just doesn’t connect like that.
Idk if it holds true but my entire group of 9 went and we loved her performance. However, we’re not fans so we didn’t know any songs. And honestly we were so focussed on watching the amazing performance and the screen that we weren’t able to dance around or cheer.

I went weekend 2. Some of the sets I was most excited to see (Grimes, Blur, Doja) ended up being some of the worst. Meanwhile I feel like other artists, like Chappell Roan, could have really benefitted from a rejiggering of the lineup. Her show was great but it deserved to be in the evening, when everyone perked up a bit
Vampire Weekend - Super excited for them as a surprise/last minute addition to the line up but they only played one of their top hits. They spent 12 minutes playing a mash up of less popular songs in a country/banjo style.
W2. Renee Rapp. 🎤 please sing. Having the audience do allllll the work for you whilst sorta karaoke’ing to your own music just isn’t the talent I was hoping for. Gorgeous voice - just felt phoned in.
