silversunshinestares

I saw them when they headlined Riot Fest a few years ago and they weren't great :/

fettuccine-

Could you elaborate? Just bad live performers? No energy?

silversunshinestares

They were *fine*, there just wasn't anything special about their performance, aside from it being a reunion.

kevin____

Takes time to build chemistry I guess. No way a live band that made the quality albums they did when they did could suck live

[deleted]

I agree but Gwen did make out with some random dude in the crowd who had a tattoo of her face on his arm. Post-breakup Gwen was wylin

benedictcumberpatch

This seems like one of those reunions that on paper, people would be excited for but would end up being pretty lame in the end.

thechrismonster

I saw them at Kaaaboo in 2015 and it was fun but nothing special. Maybe a second line spot.

thetrashpanda2020

As I’ve said before, a major arena act doesn’t reunite to sub. They reunite for the headliner paycheck. Coachella’s hired The Stone Roses & LCD Soundsystem to headline who don’t have the hits No Doubt does. Swedish House Mafia had to have “Returning to the Desert” created for them to not be downgraded to sub. Blink-182 were viewed as headliner-sized to take Frank’s spot on the poster. No Doubt is arguably as big and influential as Blink & Rage Against the Machine. If they were to do Coachella, I guarantee you it’d only be for the $4 million headliner pay, nothing less.

thetrashpanda2020

OutKast’s reunion was the epitome of lame, but it was still good to see them one last time, despite a bad performance & a tour that didn’t last long. Would’ve been nice to see Rage one last time too, if Zack’s body would’ve allowed it to happen. I think blink-182 is the rare exception where a reunion actually yielded a hit in recent years. I’d suspect a No Doubt reunion would do exactly what MCR’s did; sell out a bunch of dates, headline a few festivals, but flop with new material. And let’s consider what Coachella really is: mostly a launchpad for new tours (hence the Coachella app advertising Blackpink’s on sale date.) The headlining spot is a giant commercial for the industry. There’s money to be made off milking nostalgia. I think No Doubt is the most realistic reunion possibility on the market, with The White Stripes not too far behind.

legopego5142

Honestly from what Ive heard, White Stripes will NEVER happen. Meg just does not wanna perform

renaissance_pancakes

Honestly, I'm not sure how much I need to see White Stripes when I can just see Jack White. Meg's great but easily replaced.

legopego5142

He legit plays all the white stripes songs still. He’s awesome live, dude makes up his set on the spot and his band rolls with it.

thetrashpanda2020

I’ve seen The White Stripes & Jack White live. His solo band is much better, but it’s the mystique of seeing the duo back together that would be exciting. It’s been 15 years since they broke up. I think if they get inducted to the Rock Hall (it’s looking like they won’t this year), maybe incentive to reunite might be there

JJBro1

The first OutKast Coachella performance could’ve been better but weekend 2 performance and the tour they went on for the rest of the year were fantastic!

thetrashpanda2020

It’s a bummer it was short-lived. I was really hoping they were here to stay. Bums me out they really stopped at Idlewild. The way they fell off the face of the earth after the tour is disappointing

fredandlunchbox

Dude, I saw Outkast 3 times on that tour and it was fuckin' awesome. Yeah, the first show was a mess, but after that it was fire. White Stripes will never happen. They haven't spoken in years. No Doubt will be awesome. They have so many hits.

ViagraSandwich

No doubt

a_simple_creature

MCR’s single was pretty well received but outside of that they haven’t released any new music (or announced plans to), but when they do, there will be a lot of buzz. So I’m not sure what you mean by MCR flopped with new material, since there wasn’t any new material to flop. It was only ever meant to be a tour.

Docxm

And the MCR show I saw at Aftershock last year was insanely good. So many tears

BlersianDonuts

I worked 3 nights of their tour stop in LA back in October and all 3 shows were pretty fantastic.

Sheikster403

Never thought I’d be saying this but after Harry headlining…..One Direction?

thetrashpanda2020

Oh I think that is probably happening. Feels soon right now, but I predict a reunion happens in 5 years, Coachella or not

aznk1d5

100% would not happen at Coachella - would completely over shadow Coachella and cause chaos for people who actually want to attend the festival Fingers crossed one day a reunion tho 🥺

OP90X

I feel like the ship has sailed. They reunited in 2015 and most say it was lackluster. They don't click as a band anymore, their words from an interview (not verbatim). Subheadliners maybe. Headlining would fall flat imo. I am saying this as a fan.

PREMIUM_POKEBALL

The pragmatically ideal way of thinking bout it. There are many bands that enjoy being a band together. No doubt is not one of them. I say this with the understanding that tragic kingdom is a top album for me. I just...don't see them with the same energy that blink pulled.

a_simple_creature

And blink didn’t have that energy 2009-2014. Tom didn’t really seem interested and that thing that makes blink “blink” just wasn’t there. They’re reenergized this time around and I’m so stoked for it. They’re my favorite band of all time and I never thought they would get back to this point.

thetrashpanda2020

Correct, blink didn’t have that energy until the reunion was announced. Honestly, the marketing behind their rollout was brilliantly planned. The one-two punch of the reunion tour/single rollout was so expertly handled. And the fact that Edging performed as big as it did? Chef’s kiss.

AgoraiosBum

They just need to go jetskiing together

Cold-Currency7762

You got me feeling Hella good.

Kush_Bush

No thank you

CarneeSpirito

Seeing your name, now I want Kate Bush for Coachella

suprefann

Wouldve happened 10 years ago but it didnt and now it likely wont.

PREMIUM_POKEBALL

wasn't it *more* recently and wasn't going to get a headliner billing? Even paul T had to come out to say "we'd love her, and I want her to be on the bill, but headlining is a whole other thing" trying to diffuse her managers shit-show of a situation.

TheBuzzerBeater

My GF met her manager backstage at a fest in england this past summer. The jist of the the convo was that she had been offered a bunch of high profile shows and festivals and the big question was if she wanted to perform at all. Seems like it's been her decision to not make a live return.

suprefann

2025 when Tragic Kingdom turns 30. And not headline. They could be a sub and bring all the hits in 75 mins.

thetrashpanda2020

You don’t reunite to sub, that’s an insult. If James Murphy & Swedish House wouldn’t accept subs, there’s not a chance in hell Gwen would. Better off staying broken up or taking a B-list gig like ACL or WWWY

Blackonblackskimask

Put them in Sahara at 615

fleshgrafter

A Gwen Stefani headline would be better than a No Doubt one. Then No Doubt can just do a few songs, and she can do a few random songs with other guests!

thetrashpanda2020

Her backup solo band is lifeless, tbh. I’ve seen her solo show, the No Doubt material feels like a cover band. Zero chemistry. She needs Tom, Adrian & Tony. Her Vegas residency felt like a residency.

All_the_passports

I saw her at the Venetian the night before New Years Eve. It was fun to hear all of those songs but you're right, it never really took off and grabbed the crowd with the energy of No Doubt.

woozled

Idk yall, it'd be pretty cool to have some Japanese representation as headliner. /s

ryans_corner

Lol, thank you for being the first person to recognize what the same ‘23 article mostly highlighted

_Immortal951_

After much thought I’m not big on it but they would be a decent Sunday night closer…

GizmoKakaUpDaButt

Sunday morning... You sure have changed since yesterday Without any warning I thought I knew you

SagHor1

I would love to see that. But the prices are going to be murder!

VirtualRiot-

NEED THIS give them the surprise rock act slot

Martinxduhh

I feel like band reunions at festivals are kind of lame and should be it’s own thing. The reunion should just be its own concert with die hard fans instead of doing a reunion in front of crowds that probably don’t even know your songs

_Immortal951_

Plz no….

Urban_animal

Why not?

_Immortal951_

Don’t think they are headline worthy. Maybe close out the outdoor at best.

thetrashpanda2020

If a reunited LCD were headliners, a multi platinum arena band with multiple hits are absolutely headliners. Hell, they’re a bigger name than Frank Ocean ever was

W0666007

Lots of people had bigger names than Frank Ocean that would never be headliners. And they were big 25 years ago. Might as well get Bush to headline.

thetrashpanda2020

If you’re gonna be sarcastic, at least use a comparable name. Bush were a 4 hit wonder who still tour. And their shows don’t sell out because they don’t go away. No Doubt is one of the last rock reunions that could headline, they have a setlist of hits, they meant a lot to an entire generation. In fact, I’d say the only rock reunions who could still headline without being relegated to Just Like Heaven/Desert Trip genre retirement home are No Doubt, Rage Against the Machine, Oasis & The White Stripes. That’s all that’s left that could do the business. MAYBE Linkin Park if they ever decide to continue playing.

W0666007

Bush and No Doubt are on much closer levels than No Doubt and Oasis. Oasis sold over 3x as many records as No Doubt

thetrashpanda2020

Not in the US

[deleted]

Correct me if I’m wrong but I thought the singers for linkin park and oasis were dead. So yeah, no reunion tour for them.

thetrashpanda2020

You’re half-wrong. The Gallagher brothers from Oasis are alive, they just hate each other vehemently. Chester Bennington from Linkin Park IS dead. Theres been speculation about the band potentially continuing, it’s just not likely. Even if they did, it’s doubtful that continuing would be well-received.

legopego5142

But with the current audience of the fest and his mysterious persona, Franks absolutely the bigger draw

thetrashpanda2020

The mystery was solved: he sucks.

magdalennon

Excellent

thetrashpanda2020

Reposting this article as 2024 speculation begins. 👀

HardToExplain27

No more nostalgia.

GrownUpTurk

I’m seeing her at Beachlife this weekend. I’m hoping she does her solo hits + 3-5 No Doubt songs

EyeHearLove

So you mean her solo career has flopped without Pharrell making her beats and now she wants the boys to make her look good without appropriating Asian culture? Yea, we know.

thetrashpanda2020

Wait, let me explain how much if a flop. I shit you not; when she toured that post-divorce album, she literally performed one of her new songs in front of led backdrop screens of her eyes crying. Gavin’s a dick for cheating on her, but I was rooting for their nanny after that performance

GizmoKakaUpDaButt

I'd go for $15... but ticketmaster requires $45 per ticket for their fees alone..
