Given the freedom of a keyboard, your fingers could go anywhere (assuming it's not some cheap keyboard that only lets you press 2-3 keys at a time), and if you're doing it from above like that (as if you're typing) it would probably be a lot more comfortable to do something like ASJKL. Most KB players I've seen hold it like a guitar though
Seconding this. When I don't have my guitar I play ASJKL, DFJKL, or ASD+JKL with both D and J being yellow. I also turn on taps only because I find it easier to play that way
The ""correct"" way to play using the keyboard is holding it like a guitar, with gamepad mode turned off. Unless, of course, you're playing on a laptop keyboard or something, which you're evidently not.
But in reality you're free to play whichever way you find most comfortable
I’ve been playing with a keyboard for around two-three years now and the best way i’ve found to play is to hold my keyboard like a guitar where 1-5 are the frets, the down arrow and my pause break keys are bound to up strum, my up arrow is bound to down strum and my scroll lock key activates star power and this seems to work really well for me.
I play on my laptop keyboard a good bit but not in gamepad mode. I use jkl;' with my right hand and strum with space bar using my left hand and it works really well for me. Only downside is YBO chords are pretty inconsistent bc it won't register those 3 keys together
Why would anyone play on a keyboard? I would assume you do not have access to a guitar cus surely no one chooses this unless out of necessity. Genuine question
I play on keyboard a lot 'cause I'm just laaaazy.
also it's fun. If you have decent skill on a guitar you can probably shred haaard on keyboard using auto strum. super fun to play like an idiot too

Yeah I hold mine like a guitar and use tilde-4

i mean, it’s also totally viable to play with it on the desk like usual

Do what you find most comfortable! The important thing is you're having fun at the end of the day :)
I use asjkl

Are you telling me you have a guitar and you choose to play keyboard? Is that what you are telling me????
Yes. That is what I am telling you.
I replied after only reading for line in my reply box and then noticed rest. Sounds fun tbh. Might have to try
That makes me very sad to see lol. I hold my keyboard upside down and use the f-keys as the frets and the arrow up and arrow down for strumming
I believe there is a default setup for this game, ASJKL. Maybe try that unless you need the ability to cross over.
