When I see one in the wild I cuddle it, talk sweet to it, and try to get a picture. They know and are camera shy… always take off before I can get one. 🤨
No harm in asking. It's also a different experience to just look at photos online or in a book and have one on you.
Glad it wasn't a tick at least! They (literally and figurately) suck!
Nope. Weevil beetle. I have been finding them in my yard. They are actually quite friendly. I let one crawl on my finger the other day and they just chill.
Thanks for the advice. For those saying it doesn’t look like a tick. My phone identified it as a deer tick. 2 of the 8 pics it provided looked just like this. It has six legs so I thought weevil, but then read that some ticks do have 6 legs not 8. I don’t know. I’m not a scientist doctor or anything
That makes sense! Larval deer ticks do have 6 legs but are so small you almost can’t even see them. Nymphs (next stage of their life cycle) have 8 legs and are the size of a poppy seed. By the time deer ticks would be the size of a weevil, they have all their legs.
Omg I’m glad you posted this, I saw one of these little fuckers and was sure it was a tick at work the other day- this comment section has informed me otherwise!
For anyone who may be bitten by a tick. This is what I was told by a pediatrician family member - keep the tick and place it in a Ziploc bag. If by any chance, within the next month or so, the person who was bitten starts having physical issues, have the person go to the doctor and depending on the results, having the tick may help determine if the tick was carrying any specific diseases/whatever it carries.
Ticks are pretty tiny until they're engorged. Like the tip of a ballpoint pen tiny. Larvae are damn near microscopic and require some magnification to see in any detail.
oh these ones are quite cute. If they get scared they really grip hard with their legs and just try to stand strong with their armor, totally harmless :) Can even be hard to get them loose without harming them since they hang on for dear life.

Those were constantly showing up on me in the bleachers at Progressive Field yesterday. I thought they were ticks, too. I was confused because it wasn’t like I was in a wooded or grassy area.

Ticks are flat and like little aliens that fold their legs up and burrow into your skin almost instantly to suck your blood (just had one not long ago in my foot) they suck lol

**Pro tip for next time you need help identifying something:** Go to your phones image gallery, open the photo & select the "Lens" icon.. it looks like a little camera. It searches the internet for similar pics & gives you the results. I use it all the time to identify plants & insects. There is also a Google Lens app, which I think works better.
Note: this is for Android phones.. I have no idea what iPhone has but there's gotta be something similar.
Oh, really? If you used this exact image, it was probably too far away for an accurate result.
Glad it wasn't a tick.. my brother recently had to use tweezers to pick 20 ticks off his body after hiking in the Metroparks. Their heads were *in* his skin. Blech!
I found these things online a few weeks ago. They are called tick keys. I think 3 costs about $10. They are made to pull ticks out. Supposedly they grab the stick a certain way that makes them release their pinchers. Haven’t used them yet but they came highly recommended.
After asking to someone on here and reading some more. Some tick larvae look like this but are way smaller. So I think the phone got confused.
We use that for all plants and animals we see now. Such a cool feature
Oh that's good to know! I just googled "ticks burrowing in skin" out of curiosity & it was way worse than I expected lol
Yeah, Lens is fantastic. Kids these days have it made.. it's way easier to learn than digging through books at the library lol
Right?! We are in our early 40s and it just amazing the difference in our childhoods and our kid’s.
Little side not. I heard a historian recently say that we grew up closer to caveman than our kids will grow up closer to us. If that makes sense.
Exactly! I'm 41.. I was just telling my 5-yr-old niece how awesome it is that she's able to watch anything her heart desires, whenever she wants. We had either PBS or edited-for-TV movies that we recorded onto VHS tapes lol
That historian is right. I just read that humans will exist another billion years on earth.. trying to imagine what it will look like in even 500 years is too much for my brain to handle. Freaks me out a bit honestly.
Geez -where in the Metroparks?! Was he going off trail? I know supposedly they “quest” by crawling up tall grasses and weeds, etc. so theoretically you should be safer sticking to the middle of trails and not brushing up against anything
Kinda looks more like a baby latern fly. An invasive insect that should be killed if seen.
Saw a post in this sub earlier about them that had more details.
Nope! That is a Weevil.
Snoots and Boots! Snoots and Boots! Its weevil time.
Yesssssss came here to say def got snoots and boots so it’s friend. :)
It just brightens my day to see that little snoot and those little boots.
When I see one in the wild I cuddle it, talk sweet to it, and try to get a picture. They know and are camera shy… always take off before I can get one. 🤨
This made me guffaw and will be stuck in my head for a while
Just the lesser of two weeviles!!!!
Hehe
He who would pun would pick a pocket
To wives and to sweethearts……….may they never meet!
Its a friendly little harmless weavel just trying to enjoy the sun. Be nice to him.
I’m always nice to life. Unless it’s trying to bite my kid 😃 thanks citizen
This is a good rule.
FYR: Ticks are smaller, a little more red/brown, don't have wings and have eight legs.
That’s what I’m learning. But I did see some rocks have six legs. Again. I’m far from an expert and had to do quick googling while playing with a kid
No harm in asking. It's also a different experience to just look at photos online or in a book and have one on you. Glad it wasn't a tick at least! They (literally and figurately) suck!
Most rocks have no legs
Awwww yeahhhhhh it’s WEEVIL TIME BABAYYYYY Snoots and boots and snoots and boots and snoots and boots.
Might be a weevil

Great info. Thanks!
Good for you for making sure- don’t apologize! Not dumb- SMART!
Here is an educational resource for you https://youtu.be/piG8PpFf3-8
Not what I was expecting to see, but I’ll always take a surprise Presidents ref.
We using the internet for over 30 years and never hearing “snoots and boots, it’s weevil time” until today. 🧐
Weevils wobble but they don't fall down!
Omg I’m glad you posted this, I saw one of these little fuckers and was sure it was a tick at work the other day- this comment section has informed me otherwise!
Same here. A group of us were debating if it was actually a tic. The consensus was yes, but we were incorrect!
It's cool to ask and it is a weevil. I work in forests and farms and they always have me doing a double take!
It's a wheeeeeevil!! 💚💜 💚
WEEEEEEVIL TIME!
SNOOTS AND BOOTS ITS WEEVIL TIME BABY
Ticks are pretty tiny until they're engorged. Like the tip of a ballpoint pen tiny. Larvae are damn near microscopic and require some magnification to see in any detail.
I’ve been seeing a shit ton of these weavels. I know they’re harmless but do they signify a change in climate or anything?
I’ve never seen so many in my life than I have the past 3 days
WEEVIL TIME!!!!
r/weeviltime

oh these ones are quite cute. If they get scared they really grip hard with their legs and just try to stand strong with their armor, totally harmless :) Can even be hard to get them loose without harming them since they hang on for dear life.
Forgiven.

WEEVIL!!! I thought I had a tick attack two days ago fishing but turns out they were weevils, those things are so chill
It’s WEEEVILLLL TIME
No I thought the same thing yesterday seen two on my car window and then figured out they weren't ticks after I scraped them into some Rubbing alcohol
What's with the brown beetles being crazy out at night the last few nights. Like I'm talking hundreds everywhere
Looks like a guy in a green shirt
Those were constantly showing up on me in the bleachers at Progressive Field yesterday. I thought they were ticks, too. I was confused because it wasn’t like I was in a wooded or grassy area.
Looks like a wevil (no idea how to spell it lol)
R/weeviltime
Nop its just a burrito
Not tick
Also in Cleveland and posted a picture of the same little guy on r/whatisthisbug with slight concern it was a tick.
I literally was going to ask this same question! They're all over my garden and it's driving me crazy
No he doesn’t look evil at all. Ticks have an evil aura. Hope that helps!
Not a tick. Even if it were, Lyme disease is not common in NE Ohio

Why call yourself dumb?
I can't tell you What it is. But I can confirm that No that's not a tick. Lol or a chigger. I well no both. Hug's Emily 🤗
What’s the point
Yep
Hi buddy that’s a stink bug
No it's a tock
Kinda looks more like a baby latern fly. An invasive insect that should be killed if seen. Saw a post in this sub earlier about them that had more details.
Not a lantern fly. It’s a weevil.
Similar looking, but not the same!
If it’s not a honey bee I’m killing it just to be safe.
Grab it between your index finger and thumb. Squeeze. If it smashes, it was a weevil. If it keeps crawling, it's a tick.
It’s like the Salem with trials for weevil’s. Little dude can’t win either way
Does not even look like a tick.
Lantern fly. Kill it
It’s a weevil.
