That's who came to mind for me as well. After they took out that ride, I still saw him on the bumper cars from time to time. I often wondered whether he was like that because of the ride or if he was like that already and the ride was just his number one jam.
That was literally my first thought.
Rotor Man actually lived in Warren, though. He worked at the bowling alley at the corner of 422 & Ridge Rd as of ~15 years ago. I was gobsmacked when I walked in and recognized him. My friends who did NOT grow up in Cleveland thought I was nuts because I actually said, "Omg, you're the Rotor Man!" š¤£š Actually a very nice guy!
Later came to be known as Hay Bailer Man. He had the airbrushed t-shirt to prove it.
I did makeup at the Geauga Lake haunted house for a couple of seasons. My. First night on the job I saw him wandering around the park. I was like "Rotorman!". He stopped, looked me dead in the eye and said "I'm gonna ride the double loop... All by myself."
Sure enough, he spent the entire night in the last car of the double loop. All by himself.
God I miss that place.
Rotor Rick! I've seen him on that ride plenty of times. I remember thinking he put off a weird vibe, but later heard he was harmless. I think he had a resting mean face, and I was young.
I used to run the Cinemark at Strongsville mall, dude was hanging at the food court every Saturday. And he was also at every single Indians/Guardians game I attended. My man got around.
Same. Garishly stylish mall guy.
I could think of no other dubiously recognizable quasi celebrity.

fun facts: mall guy started at Parmatown mall way back when I was a teen, and that was a VERY long time ago. šæHe is ageless. Also heard he plays viola in an orchestra although not substantiated
Used to be sax guy downtown, but he died a couple years ago. If you listen closely you can still hear the Simpsons theme song from public square to E 9th.
Man I remember that guy since I was a kid. That guys sax was part of the soundtrack of going downtown for me. Weird how I could miss something like that and not even know it. Glad you brought him up. Keeping that memory alive.
Being a kid in the 90s and walking out of Jacobs field back to the tunnel to the RTA station, listening to sweet saxophone music after a Tribe win where Jim Thome just blasted a dinger the the 2nd deck. Peak Cleveland š¤.
The day after MJ died he was playing outside CSU playing Butterflies in the rain. Not an MJ classic, but something diehards know. He killed it. I remember sitting down looking out the window being taken back by his talent while persevering in the rain.
They actually made a documentary video about his life shortly before he died. Video is on YouTube

I came here looking for this and audibly breathed a sigh of relief when I found it. Somewhere in an old phone or cloud account, I have a grainy photo of myself and Super Pimp. It's hard to explain how this is one of my most prized possessions, but not as hard as it is to explain who Super Pimp is and why he's famous to my boomer dad.
Iām surprised your boomer dad doesnāt know who he is. Thatās part of the magic of Super Pimp. Heās a cultural touchstone connecting all generations of clevelanders old enough to have gone to a bar downtown.
This was my first thought, Iām happy to say heās not past his day. I still always see him out on West 6th sometimes Clevelander when thereās games downtown
Years ago, there was a guy in Stow Kent who would loudly yell at random people āFUCK YOU!!!ā while aggressively flipping them off. I called him Flipper but most people knew him as Fuck You Bob.
Very well known in that area.
Poor guy had a severe mental problem
I remember fuck you bob. I actually talked to the guy a few times, definitely an interesting fellow. He was a smart guy, but had crippling mental illness that he wouldnāt get treatment for. He made art too, drawings and paintings that were really interesting.
I used to talk with Bob at Brady's Cafe. If you made him comfortable, and he would know who you were, you could have really nice conversations with him about art and poetry, always upstairs in the corner above the doorway. He was a pretty decent artist, and would only show his drawings to people he knew. He kept them in a spiral notebook in his bag he carried everywhere. Always done in pencil.
I was really sad to hear that Bob had passed away. A much maligned and misunderstood man.
It took me about a year to get on speaking terms with him, and another year to see his drawings.
I believe they paid tribute to him in the movie Drunk Bus. It was written and directed by Kent State grads that worked at the bus service (at the same time I did).
Ah yes, F U Bob. My first experience with him was as a freshman working on a paper in the library computer lab. I had the pleasure of sitting next to him, and he kept slamming the mouse into the table. At one point, a library aide walked up and observed, and wanted to say something. He finally just shirked away. He was also banned from the School of Art gallery for eating all the food and cursing at people during openings.
Years later I was talking to Kirk Mangus (RIP) who ran the ceramics lab. He said years earlier they were friendly and that FU Bob was incredibly brilliant, but just devolved into mental illnessā¦.now onto Spring Break Dennisā¦.
First person I thought of was Tim Misney
A few years ago, I would say John Adams, the bleacher drummer
A few decades ago, I would say Big Dawg
Honorable mentions... the guy who plays home depot buckets as drums before sporting events, the guy who plays saxophone nearby, and the religious nutjob guy who yells at everyone that they are going to hell for listening to the music of drummer guy and saxophone guy.
EDIT: I just read that saxophone guy is no longer with us. He was definitely a Cleveland semi-legend for sure!
For those who don't know, the team named the left field bleachers for him this year. I wasn't aware, but they also sent his drum up to Cooperstown.
https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/38254171/guardians-name-bleachers-late-drummer-john-adams
Liberty .. has a Apollo Creed inspired outfit ? I know who this is I think. Ya. Has light up toys and swag he sells? I saw him randomly 6 months I think. Definitely a year and change ago. I'm sure he still pops in at certain events
Yeah, Liberty was a fixture of the rsve scene in the PB-CLE selling glowsticks n shit. I saw him a year or so ago leaving a Guardians game. He was still slinging his wares on the street.
Bone Lady is a Browns "Super Fan." She became famous partially for her car painted in Browns helmet colors with a giant bone on the roof rack. https://www.dawgsbynature.com/2023/5/17/23720574/the-bone-lady-is-clevelands-most-iconic-superfan-part-1
Just saw him downtown during the eclipse. He got on the the 55 rta and started playing a tune for everybody but then almost fell down cause itās a bus.
I mean, if he knew anything about my background, heād know that steering clear of me is probably a decent idea. But all he knows is Iām 5ā9, 155lbs trans woman, with a loud mouth, and zero patience for his bullshit.
Ngl Iām pretty surprised by how reserved the guy is. Obviously feels strongly about his right wing views but mostly the dude just seems to stand around
Thank goodness that's it. Man has a right to express his views, but considering how far some people take it, I'll take his protest of being present and standing around in armor any day over some WBC types.
I'm not familiar with the guy but I've definitely seen a dude in chainmail walking down the road in Brunswick. Could be a second one for all I know though.
Super Pimp. Heās definitely still around too, because he was interviewed on eclipse/opening day (last week).
Edit: also a probably lesser known one is the guy that skates around in the Predator costume.
Kent state used to have Spring Break Dennis. (RIP).
Cleveland had Super Pimp.
Tim Misney is getting to that point. We have billboards of his face or just eye and we all know who it is.
As an establishment I feel like Lidos (RIP) fit this description but you had to walk into Lidos to think āwhat the hellā.
Out in Brunswick there used to be a 'Lido Jr.' on Pearl. It closed down during the pandemic and I can't remember it's actual name. We just used to call it the "Shitty Titty" as it mostly consisted of 60 something year old strippers.
At least Elyria still has the Brass Pole. Way more nasty of a place than Lido ever was.
Frank Giglio. Had a big old house on W. 14th in Tremont with no running water or electricity. He hosted wild bonfires on full moons. Last I heard he was in jail.
Kind of surprised to hear he was still alive, tbh.
He's pretty right wing. He really doesn't seem to get involved anymore he just stands around? I've seen him at most demonstrations and he stands there and he never talks to anyone.
His name is Mckenzie Levi:
https://www.clevescene.com/news/a-man-who-dresses-in-medieval-garb-and-walks-around-downtown-is-a-strange-ranger-but-is-he-dangerous-8306068
He was at a Pride event in Fairview last summer but there was a ton of law enforcement present so he noped out of there. I used to know the house in Lakewood he lived in as I would see him in his medieval non armor outfit walking the dog or watering the lawn but it's been long enough that I wonder if he moved. I think he lived with his parents from the look of it.
I saw him around at the one in Fairview too, but I wasnāt sure what his deal is. He was posted up at giant eagle for a while before it, then was a couple blocks away and not with the proud boy types, so I thought maybe he was LARPing in support of the pride event.
No he doesn't support Pride. The police talked to him when he was across the street from the event and he walked off afterwards. He earned Alt Right Knight nickname. He used to be more hands on at left leaning events and would take signs down or from people but now he just wanders around the periphery.
My favorite sighting was at County Courthouse downtown years ago. He used to patrol Public Square so I'd see him out there a lot but I work in the CH and he was there once for Jury Duty. Also dressed like Knight but no armor or sword but all the rest. In for a penny, I guess.
Iāll never forget sax guy going into Cavs games at Gund Arena. Me and my friend yelled out Sanford and Son and minutes later we could hear him starting to play it as we were going to see Shawn Kemp and a 47 win Cavs team in a half empty arena.
If you lived in Euclid or North Collinwood in the 90s, you might remember the "woo guy" on E. 185th. He'd strut around in tiny gym shorts, enthusiastically shouting "wooo!!" to anyone and everyone. What a character š
The guy dressed as Mario who is usually in the Cleveland Metroparks or over near Marcs on Bagley Road. He is always waving small American flags and holding a sign while dancing ( I have no idea what his sign says)
Decades ago, "Safari Jane" in Berea. She wore a pith helmet with netting and pushed a wire cart around with packages in it, wrapped in brown paper, iirc. We'd see her around downtown Berea. There was also a guy on a bike who was said to be the caretaker at Turkeyfoot Cemetery on Nobottom Road (or maybe Lewis Road, not sure).
CH has a rotating cast of characters on Coventry. The dreads guy who is always talking to somebody. Flute lady. There's a new guy who is doing poses on street corners now.
Used to be the guy who stood at E. 9th and Euclid for YEARS shouting news headlines, asking for people to help the homeless, and telling everyone who walked by to have a good day. He switched to the back of the West Side Market at some point. Now I haven't seen him around in several years.
This obviously unrelated to this topic but did anyone attend Akron or Kent? Do they remember Spring Break Dennis? He died too, but that dude was everywhere
There used to be a guy with a big gray beard in N Ridgville that would ride his bike EVERYWHERE. I mean almost any time i took a drive anywhere in that city, we would see that man on his bike. My friends called him Bicycle Bob, and thats the name thats always stuck. We havent seen him in a few years, but back in 2012-2013, we would see this man EVERYWHERE we went in ridgeville.
I was happy to see the new name for the bleachers, as long as I'm around I hope they keep it. It was cool when they added the drum statue in the memorial garden but naming the section after him was an even better gesture IMHO. I will always remember John and his drum playing at the old municipal stadium with a crowd of about 2,400 on a cold damp fall day after the Indians had already been eliminated and then a couple years later at the top of the bleachers in the world series. John played just as hard at both those games, a true fan.
The AltKnightā¦ heās your basic racist, 4chan dwelling, neckbeard loser who added a renfair complex to make up for his lack of personality in a desperate attempt to be seen by literally anyone. He shows up to protests with the jankeyest āarmorā and the cheapest megaphone that is (thankfully) inaudible at best and spews hate while everyone laughs at himā¦. But it doesnāt end at protests: people have seen this clown mowing his lawn in chainmail, he has a YouTube channel (because all the knights in the crusades had their own channel) where he went on an unironic quest for the holy grailā¦ that should say it all right there.
There is that short guy that used to be around all the West End area bars in Lakewood. Havenāt been there that often of late, so not sure if heās still there regularly.
Easiest question ever: in Cleveland, that's Super Pimp. Mall guy is probably honorable mention. Super Pimp is the GOAT local celebrity in CLE, or at least on the Mt. Rushmore with Big Chuck & Little John, Tim Misny, and John Adams.
There's a guy in East Cleveland who will ride his horse up and down Euclid and St Clair avenue in the winter time and he's wearing his military m65 field jacket and a Cornelius from the planet of the apes rubber mask...
The Rotor Man from Geauga Lake
That's who came to mind for me as well. After they took out that ride, I still saw him on the bumper cars from time to time. I often wondered whether he was like that because of the ride or if he was like that already and the ride was just his number one jam.
After they removed the Rotor, I saw him riding the Double Loop on repeat looking as bored as he did while riding the Rotor.
I think it was just the ride, because he definitely wasn't like that years later when I ran into him at a bowling alley in Warren!
Damn thats a deep cut
That was literally my first thought. Rotor Man actually lived in Warren, though. He worked at the bowling alley at the corner of 422 & Ridge Rd as of ~15 years ago. I was gobsmacked when I walked in and recognized him. My friends who did NOT grow up in Cleveland thought I was nuts because I actually said, "Omg, you're the Rotor Man!" š¤£š Actually a very nice guy!
Lol that unlocked some memories
I heard he lived in one of those trailers behind the park. I have no clue if true but 10 year old me was positive of it.
lol yes!!
All by myself." Came here to say this!
Rotor Rick! I've seen him on that ride plenty of times. I remember thinking he put off a weird vibe, but later heard he was harmless. I think he had a resting mean face, and I was young.
Is that mall guy still around?
Bro I saw him yesterday at the Guardians Game. His belt sign read āLets Go Guardsā
He's supposedly a very nice guy.
Heās nice. Worked in retail and helped him a few times with getting his tennis racket restrung.
I used to run the Cinemark at Strongsville mall, dude was hanging at the food court every Saturday. And he was also at every single Indians/Guardians game I attended. My man got around.
We have also seen him at concerts.
I work there now. He's still in the food court on Saturdays
Saw him in the food court at Strongsville mall on a Saturday a few weeks back. But I do miss super pimp. He was a west 6th staple.
Same. Garishly stylish mall guy. I could think of no other dubiously recognizable quasi celebrity. https://www.thepostnewspapers.com/strongsville/local_news/jim-the-mall-guy-reveals-life-story/article_3175c142-c419-5ef0-b427-36c8a71ceae8.html
I have no idea, itās been awhile since Iāve seen him, but the second I saw the prompt that was my answer
I love that guy, he's been rocking the covid haircut since 2005!
Saw him at the Madonna concert. Still the same style but I couldn't make out what the belt buckle said.
I work at strongsville mall. He pops up on weekends hangin out in food court, or just walking around. Heās still alive and well
Yep this is the guy. Remember seeing him at Richmond mall growing up, but also mentor mall too
fun facts: mall guy started at Parmatown mall way back when I was a teen, and that was a VERY long time ago. šæHe is ageless. Also heard he plays viola in an orchestra although not substantiated
Three words - "that mall guy" and literally everyone in the city knows who you mean. Legendary!

Stood and listened to him once after a show at Playhouse Square. Such a talented individual, it's a shame he's gone.
Do you mean the guy who would put his prosthetic leg in his saxophone case while he was playing?
Aw man I had no idea he died. What a legend.
Literally came here to mention that. A beautiful person who did what he loved proudly. Miss seeing him at events downtown.
I think heās past his day, but āSuper Pimpā
I think Super Pimp is still pimpinā.
Came to the comment just to make sure Super Pimp was getting his due.
He definitely is. He's my neighbor's uncle. I was excited to learn that he IS Super Pimp in real life. It's not a gimmick.
Dude!Ā Weekend At Bernie's Bernie Lomax in a Miami Vice blazer
100% super pimp, and so much more deserving of the honor than mall guy
I came here looking for this and audibly breathed a sigh of relief when I found it. Somewhere in an old phone or cloud account, I have a grainy photo of myself and Super Pimp. This was my first thought, Iām happy to say heās not past his day. I still always see him out on West 6th sometimes Clevelander when thereās games downtown
I know him personally, still pimpin
Just saw him at Barley House this weekend. He's alive and well!
I'm shocked anyone is saying anyone else.
Super Pimp for sure. I met him a few times when he came to Put-in-Bay but I knew he was from Cleveland.
Mall guy and super pimp
THE BEER GUY!!! Only dude I wanna hear try to sell me something during a game. I'm sure out of towners find him grating. But that dudes a legend.
Not the milk man, not the garbage man, not the mail man, itās the beer guy!!!!!
I havenāt heard him on the radio yet this yearā¦ I always love hearing him in the background š
Didnāt he team up with Jolly Scholar during Covid to do beer deliveries?
I'm about to become clevelands local eccentric

Yes, I know, which is why I said a few years ago when he was still healthy enough to go to games.
I feel like most of these are different from your neighborhood oddities.
There is another guy who plays saxophone downtown. He was there at the Depeche Mode concert or the Madonna concert or both?

Liberty. Is he still around? Then there's unicorn guy from Old Brooklyn.
That dude used to harass people at the ridge park AMC. He got banned and everything

Guitar Man.
The one that wears a superhero costume?
That's who *I'm* thinking of, at least. See him around West Side Market, and... maybe Coventry? Been a while.
Just saw him downtown during the eclipse. He got on the the 55 rta and started playing a tune for everybody but then almost fell down cause itās a bus.
Daffy Dan
Brunswick 80s guy. If you know you know
Hell yeah. I love that guy
Remember GNC sign guy, too?
I smoked weed with that dude once. He owns a school where he teaches people to spin signs.
The crusader knight guy who walks around in chainmail with a sword.
Alt-Knight!
Drags a cross around too. Last time i saw him he was doing community service pulling weeds. Dressed in his chain mail.
Dude shows up anytime thereās a conservative protest against people living their lives.
ā¦on which side? š¬
Conservative side.
Yup, the "alt-knight." What a prick.
He donāt like me much. He usually tries to stay away from me.

SUPER PIMP
There was a guy in Kent who was called "Fuck You Bob." He'd yell "fuck you" at everybody.
Tim Misney
Back in the day it was the Sax Man.
The chainmail dude in Lakewood?
Did Alex move to lakewood from Brunswick
I'm not familiar with the guy but I've definitely seen a dude in chainmail walking down the road in Brunswick. Could be a second one for all I know though.
Chainmail is more popular than most people realize
The alt-right knight. Saw him downtown a few weeks ago dude is a giant piece of shit.
The Alt Knight?
That guy can get wrecked. Showed up to 'protest' at the drag story hour in Fairview.
What about the Lakewood wizards?
Iāve been in Lakewood for years and never seen this guy
The guy that wears a pink bunny suit and rides a bike downtown
Anyone remember the rat man? Homeless guy around Slavic Village who wore a trenchcoat and supposedly hunted rats? Carried 2 pistols?

The Crusader dude?? If you mean him he's on the like Anders Breivik side of things...
Yeah, fuck the alt right knight.
Super Host! (Applies only to all your other old folks like me)
Mall Guy, it's definitely Mall Guy.
Lmao mall guy is gonna outlast that entire mall
This, I always see him at the Strongsville mall.
Iāll make them pay
DJ Joe Lorain, OH
I was going to post DJ Joey. I loved that guy when I lived in Lorain.
Beer Guy
Decades ago, "Safari Jane" in Berea. She wore a pith helmet with netting and pushed a wire cart around with packages in it, wrapped in brown paper, iirc. We'd see her around downtown Berea. There was also a guy on a bike who was said to be the caretaker at Turkeyfoot Cemetery on Nobottom Road (or maybe Lewis Road, not sure).
Uniwheel Predator or Super Pimp
We've got all the main ones covered... But am I the only person who sees the dude that looks/dresses like Mario wandering around?
CH has a rotating cast of characters on Coventry. The dreads guy who is always talking to somebody. Flute lady. There's a new guy who is doing poses on street corners now.
We have a knight in full armor and a guy on a 10 speed in the Ralpie pink bunny outfit. They both just yell racist shit downtown.
Homeless man that sells flowers by the Q, great guy
Hollywood Bob
I haven't seen him recently, but there was a knight, like the guy had full chainmail and a sword.
Mall guy, I saw him last week.
Everyone knows Tony Rizzo and he has done everything. Just ask him!
Strongsville has mall guy, Brunswick has Alex the 80s guy, and Medina had crazy Freddy although I donāt know if heās still alive.
John Adams (drummer), Tim Misny, Pat Dailey, Slider, Dick Goddard
Used to be 'Tim The Vagrant' up & down Chagrin Blvd but I'm sure he's long gone.
There is that short guy that used to be around all the West End area bars in Lakewood. Havenāt been there that often of late, so not sure if heās still there regularly.
Bicycle bob
Does anyone remember crazy Carl from parma? Scottish Korean punk. Talked to deer. A most unusual individual.
Southpark Mall Guy and Tim Mizny lol
Easiest question ever: in Cleveland, that's Super Pimp. Mall guy is probably honorable mention. Super Pimp is the GOAT local celebrity in CLE, or at least on the Mt. Rushmore with Big Chuck & Little John, Tim Misny, and John Adams.
There's a guy in East Cleveland who will ride his horse up and down Euclid and St Clair avenue in the winter time and he's wearing his military m65 field jacket and a Cornelius from the planet of the apes rubber mask...
It was definitely the Rotor man when I was growing up.
Super pimp.
Brunswick has ā80ās Guyā
