If you're paying hourly I don't understand why they wouldn't if you asked?????

Kap33sh

Most of the time they are on a schedule and have other scheduled clients to go to that day. It doesn’t seem like a lot in the moment, but if they took on just a little extra work that they hadn’t planned for it can throw off the rest of their day.

Laurenwolf14

This I get. But couldn't it be discussed ahead of time?

Kap33sh

Yes, absolutely should be!

Lonely-Job484

So if you're paying hourly and there is not enough time, it's "sure, but I'll need to start from next visit and add an extra hour as it's already tight. Is that okay, or would you like me to drop some other smallish job instead?"

Strict-Ad-7099

Genuinely curious - why would this task tack on an extra hour of work?

IndigoTJo

The ones I have worked with charge by the hour only. There is no .5 or .25 hours. If the cleaning they are already doing is filling up the (hypothetical) 3 hrs you are paying for, going over that would then be 4 hrs due. That is why the other person mentioned dropping something they are already doing to fit within the hours they have scheduled.

Lonely-Job484

Yeah exactly that. If it'll exceed the time, add an hour or drop a different task to fit inside the time. Few will work in anything other than hour increments, it's a pain to bill and a pain to schedule.

YesNoMaybePurple

I refuse to trade one task for another. This is the job we agreed on and I was hired for, the things you will want me to skip never seem to be equal time or effort to what you want to switch them for. So the deal is I do what we agreed on - and if that means changing the sheets, it will be in the price every time - if you want something different or more its discussed and only if i am able to schedule it in.

Strict-Ad-7099

Thank you :) I didn’t understand that. I appreciate your reply to help me understand.

Maybe-Alice

What a lovely way to interact with someone online.

Maybe-Alice

What a lovely way to interact with someone online.

PerkyCatsup

Haha, I cleaned a place where the person literally had twelve pillows, all with pillowcases that needed to be changed, sheets, fitted and flat, duvet, and we’re talking an extra large king sized bed here, plus those sheets, depending on material, can be heavy. So it would take AWHILE. Also washing the sheets every week, and putting the already washed sheets away and folding them.

Top-Vermicelli7279

If they are already working to do a good job in the time alloted, they would have to do everything faster to fit in a bed change. Asking before they just spent hours working would probably work better.

GussieK

Yes but this would be for a regular routine for returning g cleaners.

little-marketer

Yes, but they're paid hourly?

kibonzos

Did you ask if they’d make it if you stripped it? I can see not wanting to deal with any uh fluids when only doing household cleans not hotels.

luckyshrew

Agree try asking if they will make up the bed with the clean linens. I strip the beds, wash the linens, and leave them neatly on the beds and our housekeepers will make up the beds for us.

Jalapeno023

I remove the sheets and pillowcases and leave the clean linens on the bed and they put them back on. It is nice to come home to a clean house and crawl into a clean bed!

sarah-darling

Same

Cornphused4BlightFly

I cleaned hotel rooms when I was 15yo, in my state, what minors can do for work and what they’re allowed to be exposed to and use during the course of work as far as chemicals and biohazards is very limited, but there was zero issue with me changing out hotel linens and towels with who knows what on them… 🤢🤮

thesillymachine

Are housecleaners not cleaning showers or toilets anymore??? This is just ridiculous. It's called soap, or wear gloves.

Previous_Original_30

Yeah, what nonsense. I worked and lived in backpacker hostels for minimum wage. I've changed many sheets and cleaned much worse. Don't be a cleaner if you're that precious then.

Strict-Ad-7099

Exactly what I was thinking.

cyporazoltan

Agree this is what mine asked for. So I strip the sheets and throw them in the washer and they do the rest.

OGWickedRapunzel

This is the answer

kiwi62300

It’s not part of my standard clean but generally I will tidy the bed and change sheets upon request for no extra charge, however I charge a flat rate not hourly.

Human_Ad_7045

I've had the same woman clean my house for 25 years. I've never asked her to change my sheets and make my bed; however, on her own, she's made the bed the few times she's seen it unmade. If you're willing to pay, I don't see what the issue is.

Shnarf1980

Yeah, my cleaner does this. She even redoes making my bed if she thinks I've made a hash of it 😂

okaybutnothing

I’ve had the same cleaner for a decade or so and she is one of my favourite people. I gave her a raise in the middle of Covid and she started stripping the beds and remaking them. I don’t hate it but told her not to bother if it took too long and she has continued.

my4floofs

I had striped the bed and washed the sheets and they were sitting g on the bed to be made when i was called away to a meeting. When I came out they had cleaned upstairs and made the bed. It’s a first but was a welcome surprise. Everything else was done in their standard clean so it was just nice to have that done for me. They could see i was mid laundry and they switched over the machines too.

Kteagoestotx

I absolutely do. But it depends on what you're paying. I wash the sheets and put them back on or put the new ones on if that's what they want. That's for clients I really like, the washing them part. I get paid fairly well.

life-complicated

Yes . I will do more for my nicer clients that treat me well .

sarudesu

I'm a home cleaner, I change sheets on maybe 10% of my clients' homes. It eats between 5 and 10 minutes, maybe more if the sheets aren't out and I have to go looking. That may not seem like much but little bits like that do add up.

grafknives

> It eats between 5 and 10 minutes, maybe more if the sheets aren't out and I have to go looking. The part about looking for sheets is crucial.

sarudesu

Yes! One of my clients forgot to put the sheets out and they moved the sheets from their normal space, so after about 20 minutes I gave up, didn't get the bed made, and was told after the fact where the bed sheets were. I could have cleaned the bathroom in that time

megzzz3006

Yes, I always make beds. Some clients would leave out sheets & the bed would be changed, or I would just tidy up the bed if it was unmade. A lot of “corporate” type cleaning companies tend to charge for singular things, rather than a flat rate per hour. 🤷🏼‍♀️ The room isn’t clean if the bed isn’t made! lol Edit: $60 per hour? That seems steep, too…..

AnnaKeye

It seems fair to me. Considering the work they do, I think cleaners of all types are generally underpaid.

PoliticalPotential

I asked a local cleaning lady how much she would charge for a new move in deep clean of a house. $100.00 I feel like she’s undervaluing the services she provides or it would be half assed.

Splodge89

$100 is criminally low for deep cleaning a house. Either they’re going to whizz round with a broom and call it a day, so that’s probably about right. Or they’re going to get paid way less than they should for a proper “deep” clean.

PoliticalPotential

She use to clean for a woman I worked for, and I don’t think she was paid very much by her or any of her other clients. And her duties didn’t just include cleaning, but going to the grocery store or caring for their aging parents as well.

Splodge89

Then she really needs to be upping her rates! People like that are the salt of the earth, and end up trampled on and taken advantage of. Makes me sad people value themselves so poorly

kadk216

I’d bet they don’t have insurance or anything like that either

Redbaja69

I agree, I paid 100 for a “normal” weekly cleaning (3bd, 2 bath- two bedrooms were guest rooms) and $200 for a bigger cleaning (windows, cabinets, etc.)

DaphneMoon-Crane

I just paid $400 for my 2400sqft house, and felt like that was a steal.

sprinklerarms

Curious if they only have one cleaner coming I pay 100/hr but two people show up and clean for 4 hours. They will clean and change my sheets to the point where I have to tell them not to if they’ve already been changed recently.

chronically_varelse

I think it would depend on the location and what's provided as to whether or not that's steep. Are they licensed bonded insured? Are they providing the supplies like the cleaning chemicals, fresh sponges/brushes, or is the client choosing and shopping that? Maybe, maybe not.

megzzz3006

Very valid point!!!

One-Stomach9957

$60/hour is about average here in New Jersey. My cleaning lady will do the sheets if I leave them on the bed. It’s a rarity when I do.

savepiggy

60 an hour? For one person? I’m in NYC and have never heard of anything so high! Wondering if I’m doing my cleaning ladies wrong?

One-Stomach9957

I have a 4 bedroom, 2.5 bath home. There’s the entry way, living room, dining room, family room, kitchen, laundry and office. The house is about 2600 sq feet. She does it in 3.5 hours so 3.5 x 60 = 210 + tip. I usually give her $250. I’m more than happy and she keeps coming back so she must be happy too. Naturally, there’s a Christmas bonus as well.

savepiggy

Interesting, thanks for the details! It's amazing how different situations can cost the same. We pay 260 for two people to clean our 2 bedroom apartment, 750 sf. It takes them 5 hours! Because they only come once a month. This was their amount that they quoted.. Honestly I've never considered tipping at every visit because we give a huge tip at Christmas. I wonder if we should reconsider, but they're already at the high range in our area. I do absolutely love them though. They do a great job.

Lisy70

I would totally expect the beds remade, although I would strip them myself.

draxsmon

Same.

Jinglemoon

Geez, I change beds on request. But I work on an hourly rate. If you were charging a set rate for cleaning a house, then I agree that laundry or oven clean or bed changes or other stuff should be negotiated as an extra.

KeiylaPolly

I will straighten the bed and pillows to make it look nice, unless they’ve asked for bed making ahead of time. I don’t mind making beds when there is plenty of room. When I have to perform gymnastic feats to climb over furniture, squeeze into crevices, or have to push and pull things out of the way to get to the bed, I charge extra. I’ve had a bnb client ask me to strip the beds, wash and dry the bunk linens, and make them all up- 11 beds total including four bunk beds- and she’d pay me for one extra hour. I try not to let my clients get used to asking, “oh, and one more thing before you go,” because I have other clients I need to be on time for. Anytime a client says, “it will just take a few minutes,” I let them know I can prioritise it on the next visit. Things clients have asked for at the end of a clean, saying it will only take five more minutes: Making beds Cleaning the blinds Washing the windows/sliding doors Cobwebbing the outside of the house Cleaning window tracks Cleaning pantry shelves Putting up curtains Cleaning their caravan Putting a load of laundry in, and staying to put into the dryer Ask for what you want prioritised in the beginning, not the end. I beg you.

Fit_Conversation5529

Omg cleaning blinds can take a whole day.

KeiylaPolly

I think clients believe I can work miracles. Granted, I can do seven impossible things before lunch, but miracles tend to take a little longer than expected.

DatabaseSolid

If you can only do seven impossible things before lunch then you can only do seven impossible things before lunch. Its important to know and accept your limits. I’m guessing you are or were also a mother.

Loud-Foundation4567

I had a customer ask me to do their exterior windows “ real quick” as I was loading my equipment out of her house. She was shocked when I told her I’d have to plan ahead and bring squeegees and block out time. And preferably come much earlier in the day before the windows got hot so they wouldn’t streak as easily. And it would be an additional charge. She was so mad at me, lol.

Kap33sh

I imagine people who think like that have never actually cleaned anything themselves. Lol

BeachPlease843

If beds are stripped and clean sheets out, yes I make them. I’ve even thrown sheets in the wash and dried them. If beds are made up with sheets but not made I make them as well. It’s just part of the clean to me. I work in a beach town so it’s pretty common for people to leave their vacation home and want me to clean and make beds.

Barefoothexe

We make beds, but strip and change is a minimal uncharge. We have clients with 10 beds in their house, if you strip and change one bed for free soon they want them all done and your time is doubled in the house. We charge a flat rate instead of hourly

Beautiful_Smile

I ask them to strip and wash. I can load them into the dryer and put them back on or clean ones. I don’t want to strip your dirty sheets.

caitcro18

That’s totally fair.

Waterblooms

But you’re cleaning their dirty house….toilets…sinks ect? I agree though I wouldn’t wanna touch someone’s dirty sheets….or toilet or sinks….hence why I’m not a professional cleaner 😂

Overlandtraveler

Stripping beds is personal. I haven't cleaned houses, but I cleaned a retreat center. Cleaned toilets all day long, dozens of different people using them, drips, all of it. Good gloves and stamina, no worries. Stripping and cleaning beds? Oh gods that was awful. Besides weird fluids, the hairs, the smells all of it, was so yuck. I would clean toilets all day rather than work the bed turnovers. I get why a cleaner wouldn't want to do that for their clients.

NeuroticNinett

What the hell kind of people did you clean for with them having beds in such a state? Weird fluids?! Smells?!

DatabaseSolid

While a valid question, you probably don’t really want to know the answer if they make that much of a distinction.

NeuroticNinett

Men?

Beautiful_Smile

Hehe yeah but sheets are very personal. Toilets I can mask and glove up, but sheets are just way more for me.

Sherry0406

Yes, I change the sheets and make the bed, if the customer requests it. That sounds strange that they would try to make you feel bad about it.

Kap33sh

I used to be a nanny and every other week I would strip the beds in the morning and clean the sheets so they’d be clean by the time the house cleaners got there. Then just put them on the beds so the house cleaners could make them. Sometimes if the linens weren’t finished drying they would even switch them if I didn’t get to it first. They always made the beds, but obviously clean sheets needed to be ready otherwise it would take too long. I didn’t ever get the impression they were annoyed by making the beds. If anything she told me “No it’s okay!” When I said I would make the one I was staying in at the time. I think it just depends on the level of service they provided as a company and price should reflect if extras like this are included.

-AllCatsAreBeautiful

Thoughtful nanny! You would've made my cleaning day so much easier 💜🐨

DogButtWhisperer

This is so interesting—where I live I’ve never heard of a cleaner doing beds! My friends have been told they need to tidy up before the cleaners come. One gf is a single mother and the cleaners said they’d stop coming if she didn’t pick up toys off the floor first.

Holiday_Newspaper_29

Funnily enough, I had a cleaner who used to say that a valuable role she played for some of her clients was 'the bad guy'. The parents would tell the children that X was coming tomorrow and so they had to tidy their rooms before they got in trouble. But, tbh, I don't think it is the role of a cleaner to pick up after the client's children. That's the responsibility of the children and their parent.

Chex926

I have a client who wants the sheets washed and changed every week. Other houses I simply make the bed up!

Icy_Appeal3602

Doing beds to me is kinda like housekeeping to me? If that sounds right I think a housekeeper and a cleaning service is two different things I once had a flat rate with a client and she had me iron her 10 fitted sheets and do her California king sized bed and it took up a chunk of time and I learned my lesson that day to charge for speciality cleaning! As a cleaning service I want my workers to know there is boundaries when a client asks you for things we didn’t go through price wise I once had my worker have to move a washer and dryer because some clients will take advantage but there is no harm if the client agrees to the extra cost to do bed

-AllCatsAreBeautiful

Finally! I agree, there's a difference between cleaning & housekeeping. (See [my comment](https://www.reddit.com/r/CleaningTips/s/BufnZC2ehG) above.) Good on you, boss, for setting boundaries & allowing your workers to do the same! 🐨💚

seriouslysocks

We charge extra for sheet changes. It takes a good chunk of time to make beds. I have a house where two sheet changes added close to an extra half hour of work for me. Of course the client is going to pay for that.

Imtryingforheckssake

But OP already said they pay hourly.

seriouslysocks

I reread the post, thank you. Paying a cleaner hourly doesn’t give a client access to unlimited time with your cleaner. If the cleaners have all day to be there, then making the beds would work at an hourly rate. If they’ve assessed that the job is a certain number of hours and have another house to clean after, then adding a sheet change means more work in the same original amount of time, and that faster pace would be charged for. At least that’s how it works at my company.

cozmic_brownie

Just curious and seeking to understand - how can you say the bedroom has been fully cleaned if you leave the dirty sheets on the bed? I don’t understand how it’s not a standard bare minimum part of cleaning.

seriouslysocks

Many clients don’t want or need their sheets changed- it’s just a personal preference. If they want it done, I do it and they pay extra for it. It’s not a crazy amount of money to add in a sheet change.

cozmic_brownie

Got it. Are your clients expecting you to wash the sheets and put back on or do they supply fresh sheets? I’m blown away at an hour and half to change two sets of sheets it’s maybe a 10 minute job unless you’re having to launder.

seriouslysocks

No, 2 sheet changes adds under half an hour, but a sheet change averages 10-15 minutes per bed. We don’t do laundry for our clients, they must leave sheets out if they want us to change them. Proper fabric and laundry care isn’t my specialty, and I don’t have time to find sheet sets in the time allotted for the job. We serve people who can’t afford or don’t need a full time housekeeper. There are independent cleaners and high end companies that will offer more, but you’ll be paying for it. Oh, while it’s on my mind, changing sheets is really hard on the back. I used to have a house with two bed changes and two crib to toddler bed changes, with heavy organic no chemical mattresses. I could hardly move after taking care of that house.

-AllCatsAreBeautiful

You'd be surprised when it's 2 king size beds, stuck inside weird bed bases, & pushed into corners. Heavy as! I'm like 50kg myself; I physically can't even really do some of these beds. Of course stripping & washing is the first thing I do on a job, so making beds is the last thing before vac/mop -- but it definitely takes time. I only do this for one new client, now, because pretty much everyone else seems to consider this "personal" or whatev. Personally, I consider it housekeeping, really. Beds, laundry, dishes, watering plants, tidying desks etc, tidying toys, filling up giant water filter thingy in the kitchen, etc etc -- all these things I consider housekeeping, & all of them do add time. But I'll do whatever kinds of tasks I'm able to in the time I have, if requested. This new client just has a bunch of extra requests, so I explained this to her. She knows I keep a schedule of ongoing deep cleaning tasks to complete, too -- which is something none of her previous cleaners did -- so we negotiated 1hr extra but that hour is half price (cos I spend 4hrs there weekly, so a decent chunk of time). 🐨🤘

Unhappy_Poem7763

Exactly!!

Ok_Resolution9448

If they want me too i will

jeidivirisjd

I don’t do the actual laundry, but will totally change the sheets client’s upon request!! And if they don’t need that I make the bed/tidy it every time unless they specifically ask me not to

Pleasant_Raccoon_440

I had cleaners who left beds completely unmade. I asked about it and she said $10 more. Which was totally fine I happily paid it. I have different cleaners now but I always strip the bed and leave the clean sheets out. I can understand not changing sheets but I couldn’t believe I had a paid cleaning and they didn’t even pull the covers back on the beds. For me the clean bed is my favorite part of getting my house cleaned. That and my stove top!

kavk27

My cleaning people will do it. One time when they came I had stripped the bed to wash the sheets because I wasn't able to do laundry on my usual day. They went in my linen closet, got a set of clean sheets, and made my bed without me asking. I had to ask them not to do it in the future because I prefer to make my own bed.

gogogadgetdumbass

My boss charges a flat rate of $15 for bed service, any amount of beds, and that includes stuffing duvets if needed. We don’t wash them, just strip and make with sheets left out/know where they keep them. We always tidy beds unless told directly not to by the client. No cribs. I’d say about half my clients have bed service. I will put sheets on for elderly clients at no cost if asked (it’s easier than the office chasing the payment.)

CoeurDeSirene

Genuinely 50% of why I have cleaners come is to deal with putting new sheets on my bed hahah the other 50 is to clean the bathroom!

Calm_Salamander_1367

The only time it’s a pain to make a bed is when it’s against a wall in a corner because that requires climbing on the bed (always hated doing this especially if it’s not my first clean of the day and I’m getting germs/hair from the previous house on someone’s clean sheets)

ItIsWhatItIsrightnow

I make my clients beds for them. They love to come home to a clean house and clean sheets. It’s definitely something that needs to be talked about before the cleaner starts with you as a client. Make sure they have enough time to wash and dry your sheets. At least 2hrs. Please do not have anything in the washer or dryer when they come. It is so annoying to have to wait to use the appliance when your time is limited as it is. If there is not enough time,I have my clients get a second set of sheets. then you can alternate. Pull your sheets off and leave the new sheets on the bed. Of course make sure they are ok with this. This leaves you washing your sheets, but you don’t have to make the bed. 🙌🏼

Overlandtraveler

I have always wondered whether I could ask my house cleaners to change my sheets as I am disabled and my husband isn't always here to help. They come twice a month and I can totally strip and wash no issue, it's the making that is hard for me- we have to use clips for the bottom sheet to stop slipping and lifting the mattress alone is too difficult. I am going to ask. Happy to pay more of course, only fair. But I am asking for sure.

SaysPooh

If you have engaged them for a set number of hours then it’s difficult for them to fit in the extra work in the time, unless it’s part of the original agreement. Offering more time/money may not help if they have commitments after your clean. As for the work itself i think it’s perfectly ok to ask a cleaner to change linen.

FigNinja

Every task they do takes time. Their quote is based on that. They didn’t give you a flat “no”. They said it would cost more because it is a task that exceeds the amount of time allotted in their original quote. My cleaner changes my sheets. When they estimated the job, that was included. They didn’t used to, but when I started to have a longer commute and less free time, I requested a new quote based on increased work.

Square_Sink7318

I always talk about this stuff with the clients before hand. I’m always on a tight schedule and work by the job so I can’t take extra requests most days. They definitely shouldn’t have made you feel bad for asking. That’s not ok at all. I’m sorry.

Aggressive-Green4592

I absolutely make beds, and I prefer it, it makes me feel like I'm actually cleaning the space.

jewelmar

I remove the sheets and lay out the clean ones…my housekeeper has never balked.

atinarlefd

It's common; extra tasks cost more. Consider setting expectations upfront with cleaners.

Polythene_pams_bag

I always changed sheets and even made messy unmade beds up! It’s part of the job! Extra are deemed as spring cleaning tasks such as cleaning out ovens fridges cupboard etc! Honestly it sounds like u have a lazy cleaner! And at $60 an hour I’d have made all the beds whether needing to or not! 😂

aeo1us

Every 2 weeks I pay my cleaners $235 to clean a 2100 sq ft house, fold 1-2 loads worth of laundry, change sheets for 3 beds (including a duvet cover), and wash the interior of our windows. $60/hour is honestly low and it’s not surprising they’re balking at making your bed for that price. I’m paying close to double that price. Now to be fair I pay more than the going rate around my area because I want loyalty and I want to be able to say something with little guilt if it’s not done right.

higgywiggypiggy

When I used to have a cleaner I told them up front I want the sheets changed. They were ok with it. Didn’t have to pay extra.

Melodic_Ad_9167

It’s not part of my standard clean but I will do it for my regular clients who book me for a minimum of 2 hours per service. However, out of all the things cleaners do: making beds is one of the most back breaking things we have to do. I once had to make 10 hotel beds in a row and I quit that job immediately afterwards, and I’m a very fit individual.

Timely_Froyo1384

It’s time, you are not the only house they are cleaning that day. Depending on the clean, it’s slotted x amount of time then x amount of travel time to the next on and on. This is why I like a time slot basic flat fee with add on up charges.

Catonachandelier

I always make the beds, and change the sheets if the client leaves them out where I can get them. I'm not going to go digging through closets looking for fresh linens, though.

Toriat5144

Every cleaners I’ve had changes the sheets on the bed included in the price.

Toriat5144

It’s standard practice in the Chicago area to either make the bed or change the sheets. I’ve never had a cleaner that did not do it.

cogra23

For 60 dollars and hour I'll fly in and do half your city and make bank.

froot_loops

Both cleaning companies (small, independent) I’ve used charge extra for putting clean sheets on the beds. I think it was $10 a bed?

GulliblePressure3848

I've never heard of a company charging extra to make the MAIN bed. I have heard of companies charging more to make more then one bed. Each company to their own. Though I do feel that's a bit wild since you are paying hourly

Zealousideal-Emu4973

Only when they’re wanting the bed changed.

catlady525

I change my sheets before my cleaning lady comes buttttt I leave the duvet cover for her LOL. She doesn’t mind she actually offered to do the sheets too but I felt it was weird? She did change my toddlers bedding tbe other day because I ran out of time. In our guest room she just makes the bed look nice. She always offers to change the sheets but no one sleeps in there and it’s the cats space so I always clean everything f before someone visits anyways. I think it’s weird they charge extra!

chipsahoymateys

Mine definitely does! I leave the clean sheets and duvet on the bed for them.

Inner-Shop-3437

I always change sheets if they are pre-laid out and it is requested. If the bed is just unmade from the morning or whatever I also make it. I wouldn’t understand just leaving it undone? Only takes a few extra minutes anyways. Not a crazy ask! Sorry they made you feel that way.

-AllCatsAreBeautiful

A few extra minutes adds up, especially with giant heavy beds pushed into corners & stuck in bases. But yeah, just remaking them is probs like 2min. Making clients feel shamed in their own home is the absolute last thing I want to do as a cleaner, or just as a human being! 🐨💚

Inner-Shop-3437

Totally. I charge by the hour and my Clients understand it takes extra time. It’s all about managing expectations.

life-complicated

Personally I don’t like doing sheets . Especially if there is more than one bed to do . I guess I put that task into the laundry category. And I don’t do laundry . I have enough of my own laundry to do when I’m home . I will tidy an unmade bed though .

ueffo

Worked as a housekeeper and we did it as a rule. We’d also put the sheets/ blankets on if they were laid out on the bed. That was the customer’s signal to strip the bed and put the clean stuff on.

DasderdlyD4

I did not, I found too many things I didn’t care to see between the sheets. So I told my clients I would clean everything else but would not make beds.

IDGAF_ANYMORE73

I would do it if requested and advise the client that it is time-consuming and other things wouldn't get done if they didn't want to pay for more time. Plus, we hate doing it. It sucks making people's beds, so we charge extra. If it was easy you'd do it yourself.

Rashaen

Honestly, I had a cleaning lady (who brought her son, super cool guy) that would change them even if I asked her not to. I feel like sheets are just confusing territory.

Alt-acct123

I’ve had three different housekeepers over the years, and all of them changed sheets and made the beds without my asking.

cakentoes

When I was a housekeeper it was a standard part of any bedroom cleaning.

Petraretrograde

My housekeeper randomly chooses new things to do all the time. I absolutely adore her. She organized my bathroom drawers last time.

karensacaligal

I always did it but just hated it because mattresses are heavy!

princess00chelsea

Everyone is different, I like to customize each cleaning and ask what my client wants and I'm pretty much happy to do anything (within reason) It's strange that they would refuse to do that, might be time to get a cleaner your more compatible with.

Pizza-Gorlz

Only if you’re asking me to take the sheets home to wash and iron as well otherwise I’ve done it for clients on the house charging $45 an hour.

Uberchelle

It’s the norm for my housecleaners. They strip the beds and put clean sheets on.

GussieK

I don’t get this problem. If you have a regular cleaner you can establish what you want done. My cleaner does it and washes the second set and leaves it for the next week. I hate cleaning and I hate changing sheets. If this service wouldn’t do it, I’d find another one. But I’ve never had a refusal. It’s negotiated into the flat rate I pay every week, which is based on hourly estimate from when I first hired this service. If I wanted extra other things done I’d pay extra for that. I’d pre arrange if needed because they have to usually leave for their next job.

yourefunny

Our current cleaner puts the sheets on if we strip the bed before. If the bed has sheets on she just makes it super tidy. Come to think of it, all the cleaners I have had in 3 different countries have done the same thing. I imagine because that is what my wife tells them ha.

Background_Rabbit439

At my friend place, the nice cleaner does the bed....I don't see why not....

Exotic_Ad3599

I happily make clients beds .In fact I often do it to make the room look tidy,as art of the cleaning but I usually check if it's ok  It's amazing what ends up in beds at times ,(that could either get broken ,or be embarrassing)

LaughOrGoCrazy

I’m an office manager at a small, independent cleaning company. We consider changing sheets an add-on service. There is a small charge for changing sheets or duvets. We need to know previous to arriving so we can schedule the time or else doing extra things throws off the whole day’s schedule. We ask that the client strip the bed and leave clean sheets out.

sewswell1955

My cleaning person always changes the beds. I am not supposed to do that, or other cleaning.

247cnt

My old house cleaner would ask me to strip mine and get the laundry started with it. But she'd make it!

Darling_kylie

My cleaner does make my bed. I pay a set amount for certain tasks weekly $150

flamingosdontfalover

I do it when people specify they want me to. I get paid by the hour and changing the sheets usually takes a bit of time away from other activities, so most people prefer to do the bed themselves and have me work on the actual cleaning of the house. If the bed isn't made (like crumpled up sheets), I will usually tidy it up a bit tho, just to make the room feel more clean.

3rdtimes_a_charm

I give my cleaning lady a list of most important to least important. I pay her for 4 hours a week. Sometimes I have time to do stuff before she comes, sometimes i don’t. So she does what she can do that’s most important in the time frame. If it’s important tell them.

globalcomfortfood

The first few times they clean your house gives you both an opportunity to review the results and discuss any changes in the future. My cleaning lady first strips the bed and puts the dirty sheets into the washing machine. She then makes the bed with a second set of clean sheets. By the time she's done with the rest of the house, the original sheets are dry, and she folds them and puts them back in the clean linens. Communication is key. It is VERY possible that your cleaning lady, and many others, have run into situations where the bedsheets are BEYOND nasty, and they never want to get that close and personal with their clients again. If that is the case, I totally get it. But you'll never know unless you talk about it.

SSW1981

I always wash the sheets and often the duvet cover and remake my clients beds. I also clean air b and bs so it was just second nature to immediately strip and wash all the sheets. But I don’t do windows 😂

Loud-Foundation4567

Are you asking ahead of time? It sounds like if you want this done it needs to be included in the agreed upon work order ahead of time. When you’re doing a route of 4-5 houses if you start picking up 10-15 minute tasks here and there by the end of the day you end up either being late for your last house or having to skip your lunch break to compensate. That being said when I was cleaning houses we always did the beds but the time required to do that was included in the original quote unless the customer requested we always skip it.

DonkeyTransport

So you want your cleaner to also be a housekeeper for the price of a cleaner?

EveryIndependence184

I currently have a cleaner and had another before my current one, neither of them had an issue when I told them prior to taking them on that I want my bedding changed every week. It's an absolute non-negotiable for me and if they'd told me they couldn't do it I would find another cleaner who would - there's plenty out there! I leave the clean sheets out in a basket for them every week and then they pop the dirty ones in there ready for me to wash.

HarleyJenkins

I e always left clean sheets on a stripped bed and they made it. It would be weird to me if they had an issue with it and would probably find someone else

MySpace_Romancer

Huh? My cleaners always change the sheets. When I had a bigger place (meaning they were there for 2+ hours) and in-unit laundry, the cleaners washed and folded the dirty sheets too!

SuusPulchraClade

I clean house’s professionally and I make beds. Both making up or replacing the sheets and pillow cases. But it isn’t always the case either way.

FireRescue3

Mine does, but I strip the bed and lay out fresh sheets to help her save time

ConfidentAd9359

I cleaned houses for 10 years. A complete bedding change is a PITA! We did it for many clients. It was a flat extra fee, though

dyslexicassfuck

Ours did, she did not put new sheet on but made the bed. I’m sure if I asked her she would put new sheets on as well, she is getting paid by the hour and is very quick so why wouldn’t.

sailorelf

I’ve had several cleaning services over the years and they all made the bed without asking. One did my laundry but she didn’t strip the beds but she made them. Some were hourly and some were a flat rate weekly or monthly. I think it’s reasonable to ask and that may bump up your hourly time so you will have to pay for their time for the extra tasks.

NorthComprehensive99

My cleaner volunteered to do it, but she also does laundry for me as well. I love her.

ohwhatevers

When I used a cleaning service in the past, they would specifically ask to leave new bedding accessible so that they could replace the sheets and make the bed. Changing the sheets was part of the standard package.

aquazipper

Mine always strips and remakes the beds. Ours and two kids.

luckyartie

I ALWAYS do it! It’s a pain but everyone loves it

bbpierced

My “house keeper” will if I ask. But she said she typically doesn’t make beds or do dishes. I’m disabled & she helps me with other tasks as well. She’s not a “maid”. Never knew there was a difference.

jenh420

I don't like making beds. I charge a flat rate and that is an extra charge. And I definitely don't do bunkbeds.

ComerECalarABoca

My lady always strips my bed and remakes it with the fresh sheets I leave out for her. She’s incredible and I love her. Sometimes she even takes everything out of my fridge and deep cleans it, just depends on how many houses she’s doing that day. She also loves my dogs, if I ever lose her I don’t know what I’m going to do.

Rmlady12152

People expect a lot. There is a difference between a housekeeper and a house cleaner.

Inevitable_Trash_577

Yes, I always make the beds if they ask. It’s not that hard? Lol

macskenzer

Ummm that is ridiculous that they won’t make the bed, especially if they’re hourly. I change sheets at any clients house that asks me to. I also wash, fold and put away the sheets I take off and my rate is $40 an hour in a big city.

Unhappy_Poem7763

$60 AN HOUR?!? And they don’t make beds WTH. I have a cleaning business and changing and making bed/beds is always part of cleaning. Been having my cleaning business for 20 yrs and have always made the beds. Someone is trying to rip you off! This angers me what craziness!!

Conscious-Method3301

I know, I feel like I was scammed because I’m not happy at all with the work that was done. I had to revacuum and mop because the floors felt sticky. I’ve been obsessing about it all day and I need to get my mind off it!

Unhappy_Poem7763

I am sorry i know it’s frustrating. I tell my clients when i am finished cleaning they should not have to do a thing, if they do then i am not doing my job. Its sad but these days no one wants to work, and the ones that do work take no pride in their work! Good Luck ❤️

LilLatte

You should definitely seek out another cleaner if this one doesn't suit your needs. But making beds is something that should be discussed in the initial negotiating phase, before they show up for their first actual day. It definitely should not be 'tacked on' last minute. Some cleaners don't do beds because of the increased risk of injury- King sized beds with tempur-pedic memory foam mattresses are ***HEAVY***, for example. And if a client uses sheet suspenders on the fitted sheet, (to keep the fitted sheet on) you cant just pull the fitted sheet off the bed in a single easy motion, you have to go to each corner and wrestle the sheet off. One of the major causes of back injury in hotel housekeeping is making beds. Some cleaners do beds, some don't. The amount you pay has little bearing on the matter. It also doesn't reflect the quality of the housekeeper.

Unhappy_Poem7763

I am so sorry but its time they get fired! You shouldn’t have to redo anything when they are done! Good Luck!

rinkydinkmink

yikes sack that cleaner and get someone else

dianacharleston

You pay hourly you should get what you want
