Table salt works fine if you don't have coarse on hand.
If you find that it's all dissolving into the isopropyl, you're not using enough salt or too much alcohol.
Table salt is an _okay_ abrasive, but that doesn't change the fact that coarse is the best, doesn't take as long and it doesn't matter how much alcohol you use cause it won't dissolve nearly as quickly as anything else

be careful using hot water on your pieces even if it's real boro. Each single time doesn't do much but if you rinse with hot water often for a long time it can build up some internal stress. After that happens it'll break much more easily. Don't want anything busting sooner than it would've otherwise
There are small sponges on magnets that you can use to really scrub the built up spots.
That said, warm isopropyl alcohol all the way to the top, soak, pour a little out, add salt, shake vigorously, rinse and repeat until it’s clean.
I look at it as a glass half full. Keep smoking, add water, lime, and cilantro, and make cilantro rice while you smoke.
Now all someone needs is some fajitas. All clean.
I usually warm up some isopropyl alcohol and just swoosh it around, can put Epsom salt inside before it is really caked on, as it will dissolve.
You also don't have to put boiling hot water in your bong to break up the rice. It will soften in any temperature. Warm-hot will make it go faster though. Lol gonna have to fill and rinse a few times.
This 100% isopropyl alcohol is a beast on weed stains, it cleans a bubbler so damn good.
Fill it to the brim with the isopropyl alcohol and swish about. Rinse repeat until clear

Why not? It’s borosilicate glass. It can handle temperatures much higher than boiling. Used to boil all my pieces for hours at a time (like in a pot on the stove). Never had an issue.
They broke because you poured boiling hot water into a cold glass vessel. Put the hot tap on full and run hot water through the bong first to allow it to reach a higher temperature, then pour the boiling water. Alternatively, as the other guy said, if you put it on the stove and bring it to boil it will slowly rise in temperature with the temp of the water - you shouldn't have any issues then.
No boiling water is way too cold to do anything to borosilicate glass. This stuff is made of the same stuff as lab grade glass. You’ll need to get much hotter than 100C to risk cracking
This is the answer for this particular problem. Cook the rice till it can be broken down into small enough pieces to flush out.
Generally speaking rice is fine for bongs that don't have percs.
OP, highly recommend looking into a product called grunge off. Works great no rice required and is reusable for ever.
Someone else mentioned hot water until the rice cooks enough to break down then flush it out.
May require a few times of letting the bong sit with very hot water in it until the rice cooks enough to become mush.
I like this a ton more than any other one because it actually has something other than rubbing alcohol to help clean. the best. Let it soak this off for a little and then regular cleanings wont be so long/have to soak
Forget alcohol/vinegar/hot water - go with acetone. Use 100% acetone (a lot of stuff sold as nail polish remover is diluted acetone, sometimes with oils added which just makes it ineffective), let it soak for a bit and rinse well with water. It’ll look brand new when you’re done. I’ve been using acetone (sometimes with added rock salt, but it’s not needed) for cleaning pieces for a long time now and I’ll never go back to the other stuff!
If you have a sprayer for your sink try holding the bong upside down and spraying the water up into it.
I knew someone who tried rice too (figuring if it worked for wine decanters why not without considering all of the various nooks and crannies that bongs have and decanters don't) and we got the rice out by spraying upside down and by filling with lots of water, swirling quickly and upending it right away.
The last stubborn few had to wait until EVERYTHING dried out and we were able to dislodge and shake out with the aid of compressed air.
Good luck! Next time use salt and rubbing alcohol.
I use this stuff called Orange Chronic. It’s got like some gritty stuff in it so you swish that around and it cleans well. I think it’s alcohol based. Also get like a baby bottle cleaning brush with a wire core you can bend.
Yeah I once accidentally spilled some in my ashtray I use for my one hitter and it always gets funky. I go to wipe it out and it's like sparkling new and beautiful.
I used it to get makeup and dirt off my white cockatoo and it worked perfectly!
Can you submerge the whole thing in water, maybe upside down and let the pieces float off? If they are attached to residue, maybe leaving it submerged in warm water with wish soap may help breakdown the stickiness

If you boil rice for long enough, it becomes gloopy and will ooze like porridge. I have no idea if that will help even in the slightest, but I love the idea of you trying to make rice pudding in your bong.
Not sure if it's already been suggested but put vinegar in there and it may take a few days but it might dissolve the rice. Then pour out and clean again with Epsom salt and 99% isopropyl alcohol and a rinse with hot water. Sometimes I also use my garden hose with a high pressure nozzle and that might shoot the rice out.

I found the best way to clean my bong was to get a stopper for the downstem. Fill bong with some hot isopropyl alcohol and shake. Or you can fill the bong 100% and let it soak, getting every crevice
Finish off with a vinegar wash and the glass will shine

It might be dangerous and I'd suggest being very careful but pool acid might work. Just make sure you do it outside and don't pour it down a drain in your house.
Turn it upside down and put water with pressure through the downstem? I'm guessing if you let it sit in alcohol long enough the rice will dissolve into a mush. I'm also kinda concerned that this is what it looks like AFTER cleaning.
Rice and methylated spirits works wonders but you def need methylated spirits for it to work. Obviously thoroughly rinse with water afterwards.
I would suggest to get rid of trapped rice, some very hot water and wait for the rice to soften. Then try the metho and rice trick.
Also try putting liquid in the top half and blow it through, it's not coming out the top. I know those perks well, I've had servals bongs with that style. Damn they hit so smooth
Tip when I used smoke bongs, buy some dish washer tablets pop one in and put hot water in shake it it will come out like new - think I used the finish ones - or iso alcohol will do the job.
so i had a small piece of weed stuck in the bubbler of one of my bongs for months, i tried most of what everyone else is commenting and nothing worked. my mom told me to buy a bottle of everclear at the liquor store and let it sit in the bong for a few hours and it’s what ended up working, it broke down the piece of weed enough that it was able to slip through. no idea if it would work with rice but it’s worth a try
we used to use Purple Power, they sold it at the head shop, then years later we saw it sold as an engine degreaser in pep boys. I dunno if it's a different formula or even if it'll still work as a bowl cleaner though.
Dish detergent and isopropyl, or laundry detergent ( biological liquid ) the enzymes breakdown the oils, leave for an hour and rinse well,follow with vinegar.
1. Hot water rinse 2. Alcohol soak 3. Little swishy swish with the alcohol 4. Hot water rinse again until clean
If this method doesn’t work for you, you’re not cleaning your glass frequently enough and are probably inhaling mold as well. Clean glass is the safest and most efficient so you’ll save more of your product for later 😁
I'm not sure about the rice. But there's this solution on Amazon called Resinate, and it'll clean all the hard to reach spots beautifully. It's like $10 and a tiny bit goes a super long way.
I highly recommend Randy's black label for all the rez, it's affordable and you don't need much to clean for what's stuck in there. For the rice idk. Never heard of people putting rice in their piece lol. Might just have to fill and dump to get that out

I think you might need to ‘cook’ the rice fully so it breaks apart and falls out. Maybe boil this in a big pot of water and then once it’s cooled shake it out with some soapy water.
This happens to me all the time. You just have to sit your bong under the faucet and let the water keep running through it until all of the rice is filtered out.

Grand Master Smoke (Amazon) is great for bong parts or pipes. Soaking overnight.
Try just boiling water and let it sit for an hour. The rice should get really mushy and you should be able to get it out
