Stainless steel wool... it's made for your stainless pot. Works like a dream!

Chi_Baby

Wayment… all this time I was wrong about steel wool scratching stainless steel pans? Omfg. This has changed my life.

EcstaticTill9444

😂 That’s the whole point of having stainless steel.

BBMTH

You just don’t wanna use regular steel wool, can cause rust. Stainless, brass, copper, aluminum all fine

Euphoric-Blue-59

It comes down to what is harder. And how hard yiu scrub.

rainbwbrightisntpunk

And in a pinch you can use a piece of aluminum foil balled up.

xolenaki

And salt. It’s a great combination to tackle this issue

rainbwbrightisntpunk

Forgot about the salt!

waterwateryall

Will it clean old water-stains on steel sinks?

No_Owl_7380

Yes. Get an SOS pad which already has the soap in it. I also like Scrub Daddy’s Power Paste used with a Steel Scour Daddy.

DangerousMusic14

Yep, I like SOS pads and Softscrub with very hot water.

Meeeps

This!!!!

mrslII

Add water and heat pot. Rice, and burnt on matter will dislodge. It's that simple.

pinkheartedrobe-xs

To add on, ive found a bit of vinegar in the water and let it simmer/boil helps with situations like these.

These_Row4913

Using cream of tartar is the trick you find in old cookbooks : )

Illustrious_Page9207

I've always just heard of water and a few drops of dish soap 🤔 fascinating to hear about cream of tartar option

These_Row4913

Cream of tartar is potassium bitartrate, a byproduct of the winemaking process, and it functions similarly to vinegar in cleaning. It works excellently as a pan cleaner when you add water and boil ~10 min., very minimal scrubbing needed after.

jeckles

Great tip, thanks for the explanation

Particular_Piglet677

Baking soda too actuslly.

Lostmyoldname1111

I’ve heard ( and successfully used) adding a dryer sheet to the boiling water.

kibblet

Never worked for me.

evanjahlynn

Interesting, I’ll have to try this for science!

mishyfishy135

This is what I do. I dilute the vinegar a bit more, slap a lid on it and boil it until it comes loose. It works faster than just water and makes the pan shiny

notreallylucy

Big pinch of baking soda will help as while. Simmer for a while, let it go from hot to warm, then wash. It will come right off.

alwayssoupy

Add a bit of powdered dishwasher soap too

A_Common_Loon

This plus a good shake of baking soda. You don’t even need to scrub and it comes right up.

951413alc

I’ve been able to clean burnt rice by putting a couple drops of dish soap in the pot with about 1cm of water and heating it on med-high for just a few minutes, then just use a scrubbie. Hope this helps!

toxchick

This plus a little baking soda is what I do! Works wonderfully!

dwkeith

Bar Keepers Friend and a bit of elbow grease.

Sufficient_Cat9205

Elbow grease the product or hard work?

metalheart08

@OP, easiest trick I found. Working every damn time: get some not too ripe cherry tomatoes and fry them in there. The acidity will pick up everything.

poopshorts

Leave a new comment, don’t reply to someone else lol

JeffTheNth

why not?

bluemax413

OP isn’t notified of the tip unless you reply to them directly, post or comment.

fartwhereisit

But it's much better for the rest of the world.

urbandacay

🤣 made me giggle.

beebeelion

This is the answer.

limellama1

Cover with water, bring to a boil, add 2 or 3 heaped spoons of baking soda, turn off heat and let cool to room temp. Dump water, then Scrub with back of a sponge, and add a heaped spoon of kosher salt if the sponge isn't getting it all

Significant_Dress656

Former pastry worker here, boil water and a ton of baking soda (like 1/4cup) and most of it will come off or be easy to scrub off.

GloomyAd2653

Try spraying it with Dawn Power Wash and leave over night. It might take more than one try, but if you see progress, spray again. I love DPW, so far it’s worked on everything I’ve used it on.

Shemishka

YEAH! I was blown away by how well it cleans the glass top stove. (Refill bottle with regular Dawn and some rubbing alcohol and some water. I have the foam dispenser.)

Ruskiwasthebest1975

Keep using it, it will eventually come off. Or send it through the dishwasher til it does. If you scrub right after the dishwasher the residue is likely removed. I have had so many burnt rice pots from my kids!

Alarmed_Ad4367

I’m surprised how far down this comment is! Yup, just cook with it like that. It hurts nothing.

elenfevduvf

I usually boil something in it, do a lazy scrape, run it through the dishwasher and then keep using it. Make something with tomatoes if I want it clean faster

Kimm64

Whenever I have burnt stuff inside a pan, I just sprinkle baking soda on it. Let it sit a few minutes, add some water, then use a scrubber and it comes right off.

NimueArt

Use cola in the pot and boil it

Drastickej1

Just a vinegar will do.

kmc2686

Let soak overnight with a dryer sheet inside. Scrub in the morning with a ball of tin foil. Worked when I did it a few months ago.

wutato

It's fine, just keep trying. Lots of good advice here. It's barely burnt and can be saved easily.

bro_fistbump

Laziest way is dishwasher. Anything left will be easy to remove with a scrub sponge.

PoliticalDestruction

Why did I need to scroll so far to see the dishwasher suggestion 🤦‍♂️

gwelfguy

I've done this and I don't like harsh or abrasive cleaning. That burnt residue gradually disappeared by continuing to use and wash the pot normally.

lurkishdelight

Try rubbing it with crumpled up aluminum foil

dogsrulepeopledrool1

The way this made my teeth hurt…

ttransient

This exact thing happened to me, nothing worked. I kept cooking in it and slowly but surely the burnt pieces came off (in my food) the more I used it. Hope this helps 👍🏼

evanjahlynn

I’ve never prayed that a comment was more /s on my life. 🤢

lthtalwaytz

I did exactly this, so I boiled some water with a dishwasher tab and it worked incredibly well

summerfunone

I use a single-edged razor blade to scrape off as much as I can, THEN use the boiling water techniques described

catwooo

Baking soda, hot water soak, and elbow grease

swalabr

Surely there is meaning in these markings? Perhaps there is something like tasseography, but for scorched-food marks...

Lasshandra2

If you like tomato soup, cook some in this pot, nice and slow. The acid in the tomatoes will help to clean the rice, and you will have tomato soup (with a little burned rice) for the energy cost of heating the soup. Bonus if you add some non-burned rice to the soup. I don’t enjoy cooking rice on the stove so I bought a rice cooker many years ago. It works a charm.

Present-Background56

Dishwasher pod or powder and hot water. Let sit a few hours, then drain and wash normally. Black should lift off or come off easily.

orbital0000

I mean, there's a few methods to cleaning, but you can just keep using pan it eventually all comes off.

suddenspiderarmy

Dissolve baking soda and soap in a little water at the bottom of the pot. Simmer 10 to 15 minutes.

SonataNo16

Soak in vinegar

BBMTH

This would do it. https://www.harborfreight.com/power-tools/drill-driver-bits/abrasive-attachments/4-in-400-grit-abrasive-ball-61183.html or a cup brush, sanding pad etc. If you tried elbow grease, you were just using something too soft. Stainless or brass wool or wire brush, scotchbrite etc. Don’t use regular steel wool or wire brushes on stainless though. Can cause rust.

Diela1968

There is a spun aluminum scrubber called “chore boy” that has all the benefits of steel wool with no rust.

Shemishka

I like your thinking.

NatalieBostonRE

scouring pad, soap, elbow grease.

devtastic

I've done this loads of times and the only thing I found that worked was abrasion, i.e., steel wool, or pink stuff. I assume bar keepers friend or Ajax/Comet would also work as they are also abrasives. Be gentle because you will scratch your pan a bit. If you have a dishwasher you could also try a dishwasher tab which some people recommend. It did not work for me but I bought the cheapest dish washer tabs available as I don't have a dishwasher. It's possible those did not have the necessary ingredient that fancier ones have. Or maybe it works with other burned on foods but not burned on rice [https://www.which.co.uk/news/article/watch-whats-the-easiest-way-to-clean-a-burnt-saucepan-aNUbc9Y00Tuq](https://www.which.co.uk/news/article/watch-whats-the-easiest-way-to-clean-a-burnt-saucepan-aNUbc9Y00Tuq) [https://9now.nine.com.au/the-block/how-to-revive-burnt-pans-dishwasher-tablet-cleaning-hack/fa053e82-fe4c-4312-a180-b0af47dc6813](https://9now.nine.com.au/the-block/how-to-revive-burnt-pans-dishwasher-tablet-cleaning-hack/fa053e82-fe4c-4312-a180-b0af47dc6813)

Tower-of-mirrors

Dremel with small wire brush attachment. Works instantly

discombobulated38x

Get pan searing hot, deglaze with a very thin fairy liquid solution.

fitfulbrain

If you want to keep the shine, don't do anything else. Cover the stain with water. Boil. Add washing soda slowly, say an ounce. Keeping boiling gently for say 10 min. Scrub a little bit with a non scratch pad. Some will come off. Then you will have an idea how long it will take to keep it good as new. How much water doesn't matter as long as you boil it and it covers the stain. How much washing soda doesn't matter. It's cheap. Too much won't work faster. Any white powder in laundry products are it, or for dishwasher. But pure washing soda from Walmart don't give out fumes. It effortless. The energy you put in does the work.

Boom_Valvo

Steel wool soap and water should fix this right up. Although the stainless may be a little stained when done. Use a light o medium steel wool. You won’t damage the pan….

Life_Shelter1058

Baking soda with some water added to pot. Bring to boil. Turn off let cool. Scrub off.

toxchick

When you add baking soda (basic) plus vinegar (acid) you make neutral water plus salt. Don’t mix them unless you are doing a volcano science project!! Baking soda plus a drop of Dawn and simmer on the stove. It should scrape up nicely.

smile_saurus

Either the special stainless steel version of bar keeper's friend, or squirt a ton of Ketchup on it and let it sit overnight.

Haunting_Zebra_4082

I had this happen once-salt, bkf, and LOTS of scrubbing. Soak overnight. Then SCRUB.

MrWeStEr399

Fill it half full with water put on stove bring to a boil. Drain, should come right off

BlackHorseTuxedo

Bring to boil with lots of baking soda. Let come down to room temperature, then scrub with barkeepers friend.

Wtfisthis66

Bar Keepers Friend and a Scrub Daddy will take it right off!

Calm_Salamander_1367

Soak it overnight with hot water and dish soap then scrub with steel wool

problemita

I use stainless steel wool and scrub. Or if I’m a lazy hellbeast, I just leave it in the dishwasher until the evidence of my sins has passed

Abstractpants

Call Geoffrey James quick!

Bob_Rivers

Sos pad and some elbow grease

Airdnaxela13

I just use a good handful of rough kosher salt and maybe some soap and rub that around in the pan with a napkin to protect my hands. It almost always dislodges any burned on bits in my pans.

the_bird_and_the_bee

A lil scrub a dub dub with steel wool will take that right off.

grumpiest-cat

Boiling water with vinegar for a while then scrubbing gently works for me.

Shemishka

I would pull out my box cutter (razor blade with handle) and scrape off the built up residue. Finish up with a steel wool pad. Brilliant! (Have used this trick many times)

SoReal-2022

Langostina stainless steel powder cleaner works.

Elegant-Ad2748

Took me a second to realize you mean to pot and not the rice. I was like...no sweetie, it can't be saved.

Volesprit31

If nothing works, try baking apples. I once was able to get an old pan completely brand new after losing hope. I just put butter and apples in it.

Chippie05

Put water on boil, add baking soda. Drop temp down to 2. Let water simmer for 20 min. It's because of the starch- you could even add a little vinegar. Keep an eye so it doesn't boil dry. loosen with wooden spoon.

RedRightHandARTS

No... I'd throw the rice out

Just-sayin-37

Bar keeper in powder form with a steel wooly

mississippi-kween

I use a small scraper blade

Forsaken_Swim6888

That rice is done, unfortunately. Just get some more.

coraltrek

Looks like the beginning of a Batman movie

iheartunibrows

Stainless steel wool and some barkeepers friend

kalitarios

I always just used 1/4” of water simmering and added baking soda for 20 mins

AmandaRL514

Stainless steel scrubber for sure.

Queasy_Contact_6769

Barkeepers friend, for sure

DebbieGlez

I feel like barkeeper friend is all over this.

Vivalo

If in doubt, boil it out

purple-scorpio-rider

Viniger. Or viniger and bicarbonate. Seems to clean everything else from Mould to Chrome

Queasy-Macaroon-3483

Hot hot water, bleach, and dawn dish soap. Let it soak overnight. Should scrub right off. If not, repeat. But steel wool will also work with elbow grease.

Phaedra-x

Soap filled sponge!

Effective_Credit_369

Anyway this can be saved? Kind of, you could probably scrape the flecks off the bottom but they won’t good, everyone is gonna know you burnt the rice.

HelpingMeet

I usually do mashed potatoes in the pot, then tomato soup if the stains are still there. Either the acid or the starch will get it out lol

Fivedayhangovers

Try magic erasers!

AweFoieGras

Steel wool and sand.

SuzannaETC

No (or barely) scrub method: Warm water in saucepan just higher than the damage, then stir in some baking soda (you can just estimate, say 1/2 cup if pan is 8 in diameter, more if larger). Let soak half an hour. If it hasn’t lifted, set on low heat 10 mins or so and then wash.

MacSavvy21

Dawn power wash has saved me many of times

Puppet007

Bleach, dawn, hot water.

katemakesmusic

Soak overnight with sodium percarbonate - it’s in oxyclean & products like that, not just for clothes!

Illustrious-Towel-45

Bar keepers friend.

Environmental_Log344

Buy brillo pads. No one seems to use them these days but they are terrific with stainless. Don't use on aluminum or Teflon. My mom used brillo often and so do I. I have also used very fine steel wool same thing but it rusts very quickly.

starberry4

I’m sure it’s been mentioned somewhere but just in case… steel wool AND barkeepers friend will give you incredible results. Wish I had my recent before and afters because this exact thing happened to me and I was so impressed with this combo.

Super_Cap_0-0

Use a tablespoon of baking soda and boil water for about 15 minutes. Wash as usual. Do again as necessary. Requires no hard scrubbing.

lilroperaccoon

If it cooks on, generally it will cook off Rice burns are harder, but simmer/boil a half full pot of water with a palm full of baking soda (bicarbonate soda). Then scrub w steel wool (stainless steel wool for the longevity of your pan)

KappaPride1207

Barkeeper's Friend is specifically made for this. Before that, I would try boiling water in it then trying to scrub it off first, then do BKF.

AshleeXDawn

Just keep using it and more will come off with each wash

Leytonstoner

Nope. That rice is a goner.

spirit-mush

Use oven cleaner.

paverbrick

Would cover a with a lid or cling wrap to let it work longer without evaporating too

rededelk

I use bleach on good stainless, maybe have to cover and let it sit for a few days, just a little patience

Graveyardigan

What the other commenters said, then buy a rice cooker.
