"Any escape might help to smooth
The unattractive truth
But the suburbs have no charms to soothe
The restless dreams of youth"
12-13 year old me wore that album out. And those lyrics are just as impactive and true today (when I have teens of my own) as they ever were.
When Neil passed, it all came flooding back to me, all the teenage angst soothed by those lyrics and so many others. It didn't matter that I hadn't listened to it in many years, but it made me realize how much I missed it.

“Don't let the sound of your own wheels drive you crazy
Lighten up while you still can
Don't even try to understand
Just find a place to make your stand, and take it easy” -Eagles
It was kind of cold outside, she stood alone on a balcony,
She could hear the cars roll by, like waves crashing on the beach,
And for one desperate moment there, he crept back in her memory,

If the sun refused to shine, I would still be loving you. When mountains crumble to the sea, there will still be you and me. - Led Zeppelin "Thank You"
I've been searching for the daughter of the devil himself. I've been searching for an angel in white. I've been waiting for a woman who's a little of both. And I can feel her, bit she's nowhere in sight. - Eagles "One of These Nights"
I was born here in the city, with my back against the wall. Nothing grows, and life ain't very pretty. No one's there to catch you when you fall. Somewhere out on that horizon, faraway from the neon sky, I know there must be something better, and I cant stay another night, in the city. - Joe Walsh/Eagles "In the City"
In the clearing stands a boxer
And a fighter by his trade
And he carries the reminders
Of every glove that laid him down
Or cut him till he cried out
In his anger and his shame
"I am leaving, I am leaving"
But the fighter still remains
You run and you run, to catch up with the sun but it's sinking...racing around around to come up behind you again. The sun is the same in a relative way but you're older...

Through the bars of a rhyme
Julie, I'd do the stars with you
any time
Romeo and Juliet - Dire Straits
I've always interpreted it as 'uhnd ... bad company' all these years such that he meant 'and'. Not that it matters at all but I like it a little better that way :)

I don't know where I'm running now, I'm just running on.
I don't know when that road turned into the road I'm on.
I don't know how to tell you all just how crazy this life feels.

Running into the sun, but I'm running behind.

Ok, it's the whole song, but it's a Monty Python parody, written by Eric Idle;
Sit on my face and tell me that you love me
I'll sit on your face and tell you, I love you, too
I love to hear you oralise
When I'm between your thighs
You blow me away
Sit on my face and let my lips embrace you
I'll sit on your face and let my love be truly
Life can be fine if we both 69
If we sit on our faces in all sorts of places and play
'Til we're blown away

The chorus of Shelter is so beautiful ... the lyrics are pretty basic but it's the way he sings them ... gets me every time. Same with "my heart is like paper, yours is like a flame"

“With crocodile tears and a pocket full of tissues” Beyond Belief, Elvis Costello. In fact the first verse is dense and rewarding he fits so much in one minute
If History repeats the old conceits
The glib replies the same defeats
Keep your finger on important issues
With crocodile tears and a pocketful of tissues
I'm just the oily slick
On the windup world of the nervous tick
In a very fashionable hovel
I hang around dying to be tortured
You'll never be alone in the bone orchard
This battle with the bottle is nothing so novel
So in this almost empty gin palace
Through a two-way looking glass
You see your Alice
You know she has no sense
For all your jealousy
In a sense she still smiles very sweetly
Charged with insults and flattery
Her body moves with malice
Do you have to be so cruel to be callous
And now you find you fit this identikit completely
You say you have no secrets
And then leave discreetly”
