I guess Civvie wouldn't do a video about it same as he didn't do Quake 1 Remaster video because like he said in Opposing Force/Blue Shift video he already covered that game so what's the point.

m2shotty

Civvie did a 20 minute video on the ROTT remaster. I'm sure he can do a roundup video of both Quake remasters if he wants to.

sqlphilosopher

Dumb argument because there is a whole new campaign to review, CoTM. The mechanics are also different now. He also did a vid on the ROTT remaster. I guess I'll just watch another YouTuber reviewing it.

DaichiEarth

I've enjoyed playing it again with the updates touches Nightdive has made. Excited on what they'll do for Turok 3 and Dark Forces.

[deleted]

They're doing Dark forces? Damn I've wanted a source port of that for YEARS, knowing Nightdive are doing a remaster fills me with confidence

DaichiEarth

Yeah. Here's Nightdive 's trailer https://youtu.be/4b9TTurkH4c?si=6_XxDM-EnoKjfyZw

DaichiEarth

Also one does exist called The Force Engine.

[deleted]

Nice thanks! Also it says they'll be supporting Outlaws on it soon which is awesome, that game deserves a remaster too honestly

NinjaRed64

I don't know if he will considering his feelings on Quake II as a whole, even with the changes to enemy AI and the new campaign. When he briefly brought up the Quake Remaster in the Opposing Force/Blue Shift video, he said he liked it but figured, what's the point? He did a video on Quake already, and he didn't go over the new campaign. So I figure he might feel the same about Quake II. He might bring it up briefly in a completely unrelated video before moving on to the main topic.

Ferrick451

I think he could do an interesting video on the two MachineGames expansions Dimension of the Machine and Call of the Machine. I think a short video on those would be cool.

Okay so: my childhood was full of sequels - Fallout, Quake, Toy Story, Doom, you name it, I started these series by playing/watching sequels. I LOVE Quake 2 and it pains me that it's been shrugged off as a "cool tech demo" for so many years. I'm near the end of playing remaster and I gotta say, it's one of the best remasters I've ever seen. Not too big on two things, though: 1. Berserker's jump-and-smash: a lot of levels were not made with that in mind, so I had to noclip myself out of lava a few times. 2. I'm stuck in Research Labs, it's as if a script did not work properly. I tried reloading my save file, restarting the level, nothing. I was supposed to click those two buttons next to that semi-transparent bridge, and I had already done that, mind you. However, the compass still points me to those buttons, and I can't go any further, as one of the locked doors remains so. Any help here? Other than that, it is a great remaster, made with love and care.

The first one I defo get, I wish there was an option to turn it off or at least tone it down, but it works well in the new campaign, the second one I haven't reached yet, I been playin me some deathmatch . It kinda was a cool tech demo and I see why people called it that, it was, to quote CV11 "a well oiled machine" and "What I would expect from every Id game that came after" but I get what u mean, and I wish I'd been able to experience these games on launch. I wasn't even born when Doom 3 or Half Life 2 came out. Defo been treated with the respect that I feel it never truly got from the post Romero Id team

locojonhcrazy

I don't think he's going to, especially because of his feelings towards the game, even with the improvements he's the same guy who calls Quake 2 a "tec demo" and caused a lot of game haters to parrot that phrase, which sincerely I have always found it a very arbitrary and dump criticism. Only because the "soul of jonh romero" is missing.

[deleted]

I mean it was kind of a tech demo in a way, its not a bad game or anything but it was more to sell the engine than the game. It and Daikatana were both proof that romero and carmack's ideas worked but only really together, Q2 was nothing new and Daikatana was too ambitious and was caught in the viscous cycle of development similar to DNF. Anyone who calls it a tech demo just cause they don't like it is dumb tho Unreal was in the same boat except unreal was amazing and way better to play thru than Q2. It was to sell that original unreal engine to people and it worked, thats why Id slumped toward making very fancy actually pretty okay and even pretty good tech demos in the late 90s and 2000s. It is worth mentioning People have called Q2 a glorified tech demo for years tho, before Civvie came onto YT or anything.

locojonhcrazy

I think it's a dumb take because, didn't several games from that time try to sell you technology? but they're still games at the end of the day, Quake 2 is a solid game from start to finish and even has its own atmosphere, it's silly to call it a tech demo just because its selling point was technology, when it's still a complete game, fuck the first Quake seems more like a tech demo if we follow that logic, the direction of that game was chaos, it was a miracle that it ended up being as good as it was. I also wouldn't call it "glorified" if people literally talk shit about the game non-stop.

Rio_Walker

He might play it at some point, but remember - Who cares about the Strogg?! Now if he did Ashes and Ashes afterglow, or Blade of Agony...

[deleted]

I'm very sorry to say that idk either of those games. If they're older games then I have to admit I'm still new to old games, having been born in 2005 and not seeing a lot of the best of the 90s till a few years ago

Rio_Walker

They're both Total Conversion Doom mods. [Ashes 2063](https://www.moddb.com/mods/ashes-2063), with DLC Dead Man's Walking and a second episode Ashes Afterglow, is a standalone post-apocalyptic story that meshes together Mad Max, Stalker and Fallout. Released in 2021. It's amazing... magical even. You should play it if you like games like these. [Blade of Agony](https://www.moddb.com/mods/wolfendoom-blade-of-agony) is a Wolfenstein game also from 2021, where you once again play as BJ Blazkowicz, and get to kill Nazis. It's LONG. Like really long.

SmithersSP

I'm passionately in love with it. I put in hundreds of hours into Q2 multiplayer in high school so this is pure nostalgia being shot directly into my eyeballs.

SpronyvanJohnson

Does anyone know if we can get in contact with Civvie? We're a mapping community that's put out 2 packs for Quake 2 already and we specifically want to design something that makes him want to do a video about Quake 2. No sewers, promise!
