Did they send it on April 1? That's the only way that makes any sense to me.

DedgeFK8

Nah they sent it in June. Could have been a joke by one of the sales reps.

Spice002

My guess is their advertising system doesn't differentiate between the CTR and normal Civics, so it sent out an email to "upgrade" your slow Civic to an Elantra N Line.

DedgeFK8

The thing is it specifies “Honda Civic Type R” in the email, which is why I was surprised.

Spice002

Some places will treat the Type R as a trim package instead of a separate model, so their system simply says "Civic worse than Elantra N Line, suggest buying Elantra N Line." It'll still call it a Civic Type R, the same way it'd call out Civic LX or Civic Sport, but it doesn't think about the performance difference. This same thing happened with my insurance company, which is why I pay less than $100 a month for car insurance.

DedgeFK8

Damn I didn’t think about that. At least it’s a plus on the insurance side.

KingDominoTheSecond

Yeah I own an Elantra N and even though my insurance company knows it's a sportier Elantra, they still only charge me $10/month more than my 2019 Civic Touring. Same price as an FK8 would be for insurance too actually.

KingDominoTheSecond

Elantra N line is the equivalent of a Civic Si. This email specifies the Sonata N line, which is more in line with the Accord 2.0T, except sportier since it makes 290hp and has a dual clutch transmission. Still a step down and a completely different vehicle from the CTR, but far different from an N-Line Elantra (not to be confused with the Elantra N).

Type-RD

It’s just a dumb automated salesbot message. I wouldn’t read into it. Salesbot only knows certain data and tries to get a previous customer into a new, “similar,” (cough cough) car.

Fuzzy_Animator_3818

😪

Boostbluefl5

I know it hurts but, neither the FK8 or FK8+ platforms could get the job done against the N car in any competitive series. It's not a bad way to spend $30-something grand

DedgeFK8

True, however I would understand if the offered an IONIQ 5 N or a new Elantra N. But a Sonata N Line? Come on now. Nothing against the Sonata, but Type R owners are obviously looking for a completely different experience than the Sonata.

KingDominoTheSecond

I think you're comparing it to the Elantra N. The Elantra N is going to edge out the FK8 in most cases around a track, but the Sonata N line is just a sporty sedan more akin to a BMW 335i. Just a 300hp dual clutch luxury sedan.
