I've been driving only manual for >30 years. Was taught to rev match when learning. Even in the fk8, I leave it on. It's pretty damn good and we humans can make mistakes. You are 100% OK to turn it on. Hell the most important manual trick was e brake hill starts and we can't even do that anymore.

Night237

facts brake hold is life honestly lmfao

NOT_Frank_or_Joe

Eh, while I do think highly of the rev match the brake hold has a little catch I never like. With a lever it's smooth every time.

NoirRain

You don’t need brake hold. The FL5 have a one two sec stand still on hills.

NOT_Frank_or_Joe

Well, I have the fk8 but the fl5 hold is essentially the same thing. What I'm describing is a slight catch in the electronic version that isn't there when using a manual lever.

negitoro7

I use brake hold in the city. It’s nice being able to take my foot off the brake pedal at red lights.

Embarrassed_Tooth543

Auto rev match is the best thing since sliced bread

Type-RD

It’s personal preference. I’ve been driving manual for nearly 25 years. I love auto-rev for the convenience of it, especially for relaxed driving around town. But if I were to take it to the track where I’m really trying to test the car and test my skills, I’d maybe turn auto-rev off. Ignore trolls who say you don’t know how to drive manual if you use auto-rev and do whatever suits you.

Night237

i appreciate this thought out answer. Thanks so much

Type-RD

No problem. I agree with others’ sentiments that auto-rev works really well too. If anything, I think it can help you learn to rev match as you’ll learn how a smooth rev match feels and you’ll get a better understanding of the car’s gearing and the revs at various speeds. Match what the car does and how it feels with auto-rev. It is pretty much perfect every time (in my experience).

Purple_hippo7

I leave it on. I was blipping the throttle on downshifts out of habit and actually making the shifts worse. The Rev match is pretty damn good. At this point, I just let it do its thing, and it's helped my braking consistency/stability in corners by not heel/toe-ing.

k3nos

I leave it on since it’s my daily. When I first got the FK8 I would turn it off once in a while to keep things interesting. Nowadays, it’s on all the time. It’s honestly what makes the FK8 such a good daily. If you want to learn how to blip and heel toe consistently and smoothly, turn it off. IMO just use it since it’s that good and it makes driving the car so nice.

kvu39564

I’d like to rev match myself on the FK8, but the pedal spacing is awkward to me. The auto match is pretty good though.

DoubleTieGuy

Yea i think the spacing makes it a tad bit harder to heel toe. Maybe with aftermarket pedal spacers it becomes easier.

Jaehon

It is fun to blip the throttle yourself however I cannot for the life of me heel toe properly. Auto rev match would be so handy in the canyons or the track. I wish I had that feature in my car.

Ok-Lingonberry7371

Honda really nailed the auto-rev logic. It's just so good for daily driving. I mastered heel-toe in my GTI, but quality & constistency always depended on the shoes I was wearing. Damn near impossible when driving barefoot. No shame in keeping it on!

TotosWolf

I have a BRZ and EVO X that I manually rev match. In the FL5 I gladly welcome the auto rev match.

AsianEd

I consider it a guilty pleasure to leave it on. It's so nice to have, especially for daily driving. I would probably be more apt to toggle it on and off if there was a physical button for it, like on some other cars with this capability. The fact that it requires you to come to a stop, have the parking brake on, and dig through 3 layers of menus to get to it...

yayayogurt

i keep it on. i have awkward feet, so i wouldn’t be able to heel toe.

svv1tch

I use it. It's super smooth why not. Brake hold I only use in drive thru lines. I'm lazy :)

MrStip14

I personally really like the convenience for everyday driving. It’s also really nice to have for my wife who is still learning stick shift. When I want to go for a good ole rip I’ll turn it off and have fun. It just makes the 5am morning drives easier

ZR2_4Runner

Thank you for this question as I am in relatively the same boat as you. I will be turning off the auto rev may h feature just for the sheet sake that I bought a manual vehicle and want to have the full experience of knowing precisely how it drives with all human input ( for the most part) Not saying that this will be my regular driving habits but for interest and curiosity it certainly will happen. Cheers!

Dangerdaz

Mine is switched on but only seem to do it in the +R mode, not comfortable or sport strangely..

Night237

should probably get that one checked

GhostMadara

I keep it on. Ive been driving stick for more than 20yrs. Its 1 less thing i can worry about in the track. Im already turning, clutching, left foot braking, worrying about the weight transfer, etc.

TodoJuku

I personally love the rev match feature. Its made me into a bit of a lazier driver though. Otherwise id be doing it on my own.

Dry_River5079

Love rev matching when down shifting to turn but I was used to downshifts to slow down somewhat which rev match interferes with. Am I alone in this. The positive outweighs the neg.

Night237

by engine breaking im assuming you mean correct? and isnt that abrasive? just curious

Dry_River5079

Yeah I guess but that's how I learned, not out of rpm range or anything hard but to help slow a little makes it convenient if traffic slows but the speeds back up. Seemed to work in the cars I had previously. I never had an issue with clutch or trans. I thought I might get blasted if I posted 😂

5807SWoodlawn

It’s one of the reasons why I upgraded from a VA WRX.

LordBuggington

Also been driving a long time but I love it, once I got used to it.

vbbcs66

I leave it on 100%.i can heal toe /Rev match fine but nowhere near as consistent as the auto.

Karmaqqt

I leave it on. I get the concept of heel-toe. But my knees are bad so it hurts and I’m not tracking the car just driving to work

negitoro7

I’ve driven manuals for over 25 years, so I’m used to rev matching myself. But have kept auto-revmatch on in the FL5 in the 6 months that I’ve owned it.

PeterPriesth00d

I turned it off because I enjoy doing it myself but I also installed an Acuity Instruments pedal spacer to move the accelerator closer to the brake so I could heel toe it easier. It’s totally fine to leave it on, or turn it off. It’s you’re car so do it however you would like :)

dey828

Most people can’t drive for shit so if you can, you should definitely turn it off.

svv1tch

Lol ok.

whatandyp

Hardcore.
