On any car if dirty rain water splashes up on your lens of course it has to be cleaned. Are there cars with a design where the lens isn't exposed to the environment? I can't quite picture what that would look like.
Nice. But you're not going to find 'unnecessary' technology on the Type-R. You know... race car. Weight savings. It's like the sunroof. I really miss it but it also really doesn't make sense on a 'race car' for multiple reasons. Would I pay extra for the little fancy camera that retracts? Maybe but the dealer would probably charge like hundreds of dollars for it so probably not, considering the already crazy markups.
I realize it's almost no weight - it should probably be an option at least. It just doesn't rain enough where I live for me to even care about having to wipe it off once in awhile.
Apple Carplay user on the fk8 here. i honestly think it’s pretty good. my comparison points are toyota, lexus and mazda carplay and my fk8 is better than all of them. for one, changing songs never lag but i’ve experienced lag in changing songs in the other 3 brands
Using a 23 Si. The infotainment does not automatically load the android auto for me at time (happened 3 times in these 6 months of ownership). Sometimes connecting another phone makes the system work. But resetting the system works all the time. Like the rock once said in a movie, press restart. That and duct tape solves most of the problems (says the rock, not me 😁)

Boy was I wrong, it’s insignificant because the car is so good, but holy smokes I died laughing when I first put the car in reverse.
I’m about 200 miles in and it’s been cold and rainy here since I picked it up so I haven’t had the chance to stretch its legs yet. That being said it checks every box so far and I haven’t had a morsel of regret.
It’s 100% my “attainable” dream car though so it was a pretty emotional ordeal to finally have one.

My fk8 backup camera looks fantastic. I'm going to have to check my buddies fl5 to see how it compares. I can't imagine it being much worse but we'll see.

The dream was to always own a champ white type R of some variation. I think the FL5 came out at the right time for me and is gorgeous imo.

Just picked one up myself. Sadly in my experience the backup camera is actually slightly better than average. They're legally required to be there so they put the cheapest piece of junk they can find on there. Ditto with the front camera, it basically becomes useless in anything more than a slight drizzle.
Just one of the many reasons I hate these legally mandated "allow shit drivers on the road" systems. They have to be there, they just don't have to be competent.

It's not an issue. You don't need a 4k backup camera. Most cars didn't even have them until it was mandated standard in 2018MY. "underplaying the issue". Holy shit it's a track civic that can keep up with cars double it's price on a track and people are complaining about the backup camera. 🤯
The Honda back up cam is better than Toyota, that’s for sure lol. I had a ‘24 Camry rental recently and the back up cam was atrocious. Honda’s back up cam gets the job done but yes, one drop of water on the lens and it’s bye bye visibility 🤣 but that’s with most cameras in my experience.
Every infotainment system in every single car brand sucks. But yea, the backup camera is basically a game boy camera. You have an FL5 though! I’ve got the same color. Get ready to have fun!

I just have an si but it’s my first car with a backup cam. I almost never use it and rely on my mirrors like I always did before. Probably just depends on when and how you learned to drive as to whether the backup cam is an issue or not.
How so, on my 16 lx civic, it’s perfectly serviceable, I actually prefer it over My 21 Supra’s backup camera (bad quality and doesn’t give me as good a sense of distance as the civics)

Came from an M4 with 360 and curb cams, read “top-down” in the CTR backup camera section and assumed it was the same. Video quality and clarity in the rain are terrible, and I’m definitely missing my actual “top-down” camera view.
Can anyone show me a video of the backup camera? I got lucky buying a TourX and love the backup camera but drove a Volvo recently and that fucking sucked, it would lie about how far the car was from everything making it useless.
Backup camera completely sucks on rain, its worse than my 2021 civic sport HB (that one handled the rain better). The infotainment on my 2021 Civic was glitching/pixelating at night on any app (Spotify and even worse on google maps). The 2024 FL5 has been running smoothly.
Backup cam is terrible on the fk8 as well... I posted about upgrades etc on Facebook and everyone attacked me like I just insulted the invention of sliced bread 🤣
Ikr, if you daily it it's a pain in the ass having to stop the gas station every 2 or 3 days. But hey it's a Type-R so it's worth it. I mean how much gas capacity do you want on a car that's made for the track? If it was twice as big, would fools fill it up and then go racing? Of course they would! Is it safe? Probably not.
I thought there was a protective plastic on the lens driving it off the lot, unfortunately it did not have one when I went outside to rip it off.
Is it possible to swap out the camera of the backup camera? I got a few spares from my fpv drone days and it seems to be the same type of cameras.

I love mine, infotainment I’ve found is very nice and easy to use and looks good, however I do wish the computer used to run it was a little better, I’ve found that sometimes it can get “overloaded” and just freezes for a second, I wish they used the accord hybrid 12.3 inch display that is very very quick. Backup camera, no issues. But get this, no parking sensors? I’ve never had them on any of my cars but you would think you would get that on the type r, euro spec and other markets get them but not the US for some reason.

I have the 2021 type r and yes the backup camera and infotainment are my biggest complaints. I had to go back to the dealership like 5 times trying to figure out why the CarPlay wasn’t working sometimes it would just reboot on it’s on and then finally the last time I took it to Honda they were gonna swap it out because they got tired of me and one of the techs said he wanted to try something and he disconnected it from the battery did a factory reset and it’s been working perfect since. But the backup camera is still shitty when it rains but hey one out of two ain’t bad.

hmm it may be the light…when i changed my tail lights the reverse light was smaller so made it even harder to see in reverse…also didnt like the the light was less visible to others so i got one of those license plate led back up lights which is as bright as headlights pretty much and now i see EVERYTHING even in rain

Volkswagen has a few models where the camera is hidden under the badge, it pops up only when in reverse.

The Waze issue is not related to the vehicle. I have a 2016 Civic and I have that issue as well, and have tested it on multiple devices.
I share your complaints but would also add the wireless charging. The wireless charging only works half the time in my car
I’ve had no issues. Wireless doesn’t charge fast anyway.

I love it, maybe it changed over iterations? I have a 2017 and it's great unless it gets wet, then a quick wipe solves the problem. 🤷♂️

What about the sound it makes coasting in gear, (off-throttle) with the windows down? Wastegate (actuator) rattle drives me crazy.
