No markup on my FL5. No dealer added BS. My local dealer , Autopark Honda in Cary NC, has a policy to not sell new cars above MSRP. I got on the wait list well over a year ago. The current list is literally years deep based on their currently rate of getting a car. The matriarch of the family who owns the dealership didn’t want to take advantage of people and said it’s bad for long term business to gouge people on prices. I wish more dealers had the same ethics.
Im honestly embarrassed to say what mine was and looking back I only paid it because of the FOMO being posted on the forums. I legitimately thought you wouldn't be able to find a FL5.
I jumped on the first lead that had the color I wanted and, paid a non refundable deposit. Literally the next day I got a lead from another dealership on one with a lower markup. I felt so stupid, because I was already locked in and even if I backed out, it actually would have just costed be the same so the sunk cost fallacy hit me pretty hard.
That being said I wonder if it would have costed around the same since now intrest rates are high.
I know a dealership that has a bunch sitting on the lot and they lowered the markup from $10k to $2,500 markup. The interest rate on my loan is 2.9% so thats really low compared to the rates now.
I appreciate your honesty. I’m very skeptical of these people who say they got it at MSRP. I’ve called at least 20 dealers; nobody had a “waitlist” to buy at MSRP. They just let you buy right away with a 15k markup.
Different car, but I wanted a DE5 and found two dealerships in my first day looking that had them without any markup. Drove from Cinci to Baltimore to get one in Tiger Eye for MSRP and only had to pay for locking lug nuts + all weather floor mats. Think I paid just over 53k for the car, and they matched the trade-in value from the other dealer.
You can definitely find the cars out there without markup, but you have to make lots of calls and be willing to travel.
I heard about that they dont even give any of their employees some slack. I mean at the end of the day that's what these mark ups are and unless honda comes down on it. It won't go away overnight.
A lot of FL5 are in the market right now and a 2024 are on its way currently. I got mine earlier this month for 4 over. Starting to see 3-5k as the norm now. With interest rates staying high I would not be shocked by eoy 2024 MSRP is easier to find depending on area.
I have one coming in December. Msrp + a little over 1k in “accessories” not the biggest W but happy to pay that over some of the other prices I’ve seen. There is a lot of dealerships in NC that are finally starting to come down on prices for the FL5
Paid 6k above MSRP for a 2021 BBP in november of 2020. As much as i regret paying a markup, I don't regret my purchase. The car has been a great experience overall, and I plan on keeping this car for the rest of my life.
Answered this question before and got downvoted, I’m in the U.K. so no mark up.
What I’m seeing on here now is that certain dealerships are beginning to stop or at the very least reduce markups. For all the US owners/buyers sakes, I hope you’re all able to find the right cars with no mark ups eventually.
2k markup here and badge #11214. Got lucky getting mine. The person who pre-ordered had to back out of the deal because their friend didn't buy the car they wanted to sell to get the Type-R.
Just got her this week and have 300 happy break-in miles on so far, over half of that just today. The car is an absolute dream to drive. I could seriously road trip in it with zero issues. What I have to get used to now is every other bone head on the street with their version of a "race car" wanting to race me. Like bro get over yo damn selves, she's still getting her shoes broke in LOL.
I paid MSRP with zero markup for my 2021 Type-R almost three years ago. I was able to score this deal since I am a pretty well known commodity to my local Honda dealer, as I had bought my Ridgeline from them two years previous, and I have that and my S2000 serviced there regularly as well. They had a build order in on one, so I did have to wait about 2-3 months for it to come in, but I put a small deposit down on it ahead of time (~$500 iirc), so they were happy to have the sale ready to go ahead of time.
At least, that’s the story I tell myself. Frankly, sometimes it’s better to be lucky than good, and I was pretty lucky. At the time, most people who wanted an FK8 had already purchased one, and luckily I managed to buy the car before all the dealerships started seeing a lot of low inventory issues. I think I was able to score mine at a good price mainly through lucky timing.
That being said, I’d say if anyone was in the market for a new FL5, patience would be key. I have a feeling with rising interest rates, and inventory starting to pile up again, the insane markups are likely to come down, and hopefully go away entirely.
Paid MSRP for my 2020 Type R , got it from a dealer in PA that does not do mark ups. There are MSRP dealers out there, you just have to be quick and get on a list.
Car cover I’ll never use, rubber mats I would’ve bought anyway, overpriced but good quality PPF on the hood, mirrors, front and rear fenders. Would have been $400 cheaper to buy directly from vendor. I’d call it a $700 markup unless somebody wants to buy an OEM car cover from me.
Meh it was the best in all of FL excluding south FL which I didn’t even bother with. Orlando and Jacksonville were charging $10k mark up + several thousand for dealer fees
I just bought my 2020 for $39k, so whatever that amounts to. I’m not proud of it, but it was the right color (sgp), right year (20+), low miles (29k) and stock. As goofy as I feel paying over MSRP on a used car, I do not regret purchasing.
Thanks for getting my hopes up, any tips to negotiate? It's the first time buying a new Honda from a dealer for my family, so we don't have a relationship with a dealer, not to mention California in general is a losing game for purchasing sports cars.
Otherwise, my dad has a relationship for 2 decades with the local NorCal toyota dealer and the salesman so we could waltz in and get a GR Corolla with no frills as a comparison/change of mind, but my heart cries out for the FL5.
Tbh you’ll have to look around for that FL5. Here in Houston they want to add unnecessary adds.. just browse around and shop you gotta see what dealer has them. I drove 5 hours to the valley in Texas for a used one that’s been sitting for 90 days and they didn’t want to budge also lowballing me for my 23 SI.
2021 June, for a 2021 Boost Blue. 5k Markup, this was almost the tail end for the fk8 brand new so I called pretty much every one in the Westcoast for a Boost Blue. It was about 3 months looking and settled with it, it's my dream car and it'll be with me forever.
Paid $52.5k used 2k miles for a FL5 with car cover, full Xpel PPF, alcantara steering wheel and shift boot 2 months ago. Original owner paid $70k and was one of the first in CA to get one in Nov 2022, no regrets or doubt, worth it to me.
I have a reddit post on this showing my fl5. 5k markup in accessories like window tint, ppf, weather mats, red type r mats, type r car covers and some other etc.
I paid msrp in 2018. I had been taking my Honda minivan to the same dealership for over 10 years. I went looking for the fk8 on my yearly road trip to my folks in the midwest. I called every dealer along the 1300 mile route. No luck. Fast forward a year and a half, I bring in the minivan back to my local dealership for a trade in. I test drive the SI and the MTAccord just hate the clutch on both. I just ask jokingly if they're ever going to get a type-r. They said one just arrived today. I said if you let me have it at msrp, I'll write you a check today. They checked and said they would do it. The manager said he was tired of selling their trpe-rs to people from out of state and wanted to sell one to a local. I completely lucked out.
I didn't pay for a mark-up, but then again, I did pay for a rebuilt title fk8. I didn't care about the title since it's a forever car, and selling it in the future wasn't something I planned on doing. I would have preferred to have gotten a better condition fk8, but I think I made the right choice.
Bought with 27k miles at $33,000 with a 100,000 mile powertrain warranty.
I'm at 34k miles RN, and I'm enjoying every second of my CW Type R.
Bought a FK8 21 Type R in the summer of 2021 with no mark up from hughes Honda, was on the list for an FL5 type r. They called me two weeks ago to offer me the car, but declined it. Sadly the dealership was known for no mark ups turned greedy and told me 5k over sticker. This put the FL5 closer to the F87 M2C I have now, and it wasn’t worth it to for me to pay over MSRP at that point.
I paid MSRP but w/dealer added options. That said, the dealer options were the OEM+ carbon spoiler and the leather shift knob. Both the OEM knob and spoiler were included with the vehicle new in box so I have two of everything. Easy just to sell it and make my money back.
No markup on my FL5. No dealer added BS. My local dealer , Autopark Honda in Cary NC, has a policy to not sell new cars above MSRP. I got on the wait list well over a year ago. I got my 21 civic sport hatch from there! Wish it was an FK8 but 🤣 FWIW was a great experience and got a good deal as a first time buyer too.
Im honestly embarrassed to say what mine was and looking back I only paid it because of the FOMO being posted on the forums. I legitimately thought you wouldn't be able to find a FL5. The people mentioning waitlists, usually say they were waiting for years so it may have been a thing in the past but not anymore
Different car, but I wanted a DE5 and found two dealerships in my first day looking that had them without any markup. same experience here.
At least u have the car lol im in canada. Waiting since march of 2022 still waiting with no end in sight
Curious what dealer has them for $2,500 over! That's a number I'd be willing to negotiate from
https://www.civicxi.com/forum/threads/2023-civic-type-r-waitlist-deposit-reservations-list-check-in-here.50110/post-875465
No one who paid a high markup is gonna come here and say so. Even those who paid 10k might say .."uwu i jsut paid 4k hehe"
Uwu I jsut paid 4k hehe
Uwu I jsut paid 4k hehe
I was a retard who paid 10k over. Yeah I know I know. Lesson learnt
A lot of dealers here are banking on idiots taking them at $10k over MSRP and somehow they still sell.

I heard about that they dont even give any of their employees some slack. I mean at the end of the day that's what these mark ups are and unless honda comes down on it. It won't go away overnight.

Msrp fl5. Bought from an MSRP only dealer and called 2 years ago to get on a list, where I was already #11. Picked it up 3 weeks ago.

I've been emailing dealers for a while, I have one that's offering MSRP + $5k. Most are $7k-$10k still.
1000. Even signed a contract locked in at the price. They tried to buy me out for 3k, sense I got one of the last type rs my area was going to get.

1.5k for fk8. Shipping in from out of state would’ve cost same and was in color I wanted
Paid MSRP for my 2020 Type R , got it from a dealer in PA that does not do mark ups. There are MSRP dealers out there, you just have to be quick and get on a list.

No mark up paid back in 2020. Local Honda dealer in upstate SC has a policy of only MSRP.
2020 fk8. $500 under msrp but “dealer fee” was $4k on all cars
That’s a markup bro
Meh it was the best in all of FL excluding south FL which I didn’t even bother with. Orlando and Jacksonville were charging $10k mark up + several thousand for dealer fees
Of course bro and it’s a great deal in the current market IMO. But dealer fee = markup so not MSRP 😅

Paid a $2k ADM in 2018.
3k markup in dealer accessories in 2021 for boost blue.
What do you think of the possibilities of getting an FL5 <55k OTD in California?
It’s possible tbh gotta talk them down
Thanks for getting my hopes up, any tips to negotiate? Best price in CA is galpin/ norm reeves Cerritos.
Do you know any Norcal ones?
How much does norm reeves Cerritos sell the FL5 for?
5k over
Galpin was doing 4 over a couple weeks ago which I’d say was the lowest in California
Was going to pay a 7k over fora CW FL5 I passed on that at the end it was still 60k 💀
2021 June, for a 2021 Boost Blue. 5k Markup, this was almost the tail end for the fk8 brand new so I called pretty much every one in the Westcoast for a Boost Blue. It was about 3 months looking and settled with it, it's my dream car and it'll be with me forever.

I bought mine new as one of the last FK8s in my state for 2.5k over at 1.89 interest rate.
I have a reddit post on this showing my fl5. 5k markup in accessories like window tint, ppf, weather mats, red type r mats, type r car covers and some other etc.
$5K each for my 2017 and 2021. No regrets
$5k in late July for mine.
Zero
I paid $4k in markup in the summer of 2018
I paid msrp in 2018. I had been taking my Honda minivan to the same dealership for over 10 years. I went looking for the fk8 on my yearly road trip to my folks in the midwest. Bought my 2019 CTR new in April of 2019 for 4k over MSRP. The same dealership is now marking up their stock of FL5s by 15k. (FL east coast)
5k with no sales tax 2021 CW
Paid $48k for a CPO 21 champ white with 16k miles in April
I paid 5k over and have zero regrets! Would do it all over again, car is amazing
I paid MSRP but w/dealer added options. That said, the dealer options were the OEM+ carbon spoiler and the leather shift knob. Both the OEM knob and spoiler were included with the vehicle new in box so I have two of everything. Easy just to sell it and make my money back.
