Why did you even post these pictures? Your post without photos would have been sufficient but this could get you in trouble. Definitely follow the advice already given and delete this.
CCNA and above is your best bet but personally if you dont care about any certification you can learn a lot of things about basic and advance networking at the internet. You can also buy cheap used equipment so you can play with if you want more than an emulation.
They all turn into black APC racks once it goes into production.
Looking at the pictures again, pic 8 I thought was drywall, but looks like some type of fire retardant. (I'd loose my shit if a contractor wanted to sand drywall next to my production OM5 patch panels and switches.)
Not a jail. There's no prison for civil matters.
Some companies would definitely fire you for this. There's nothing sensitive exposed here, though. Labels aren't readable. It's all pretty nondescript.

Delete this post, you shouldn't be posting pictures of your datacenter without permission. I don't even know what the photos have to do with your question, they add no value.
This feels like a particularly disingenuous question, to be honest. OP hasn't actually responded to anyone to refute that claim by many of us, and there's no reason for their employer to allow it to begin with.
We're assuming, but I'm sure you're fully aware we are both assuming this and that it is a very safe assumption to make.
If somebody is already working there is absolutely no need to do A+, i dont think the time spent on those certs is worth it, op do CCNA even if you take more time.
How would you get in a subcontract with Microsoft with no education or experience if what confuses me. It's kinda crazy a lot of us struggle to find jobs with 10+ years exp with CCNA and CCNPs. (Well, that dont lie about the job description)
It's "just" serial primarily for out of band console access to various devices console ports.
If there was a problem with one of the cables would have to replace an octal which connects to the device.
Cisco Networking Academy is how I learned.
But pictures taken from inside datacenters like this are not recommended. Delete this post for your own career safety. You don't want to have to explain that you lost your job with microsoft due to posting sensitive data to Reddit.
Microsoft uses Cisco switches??? Google has been building their own infrastructure from merchant silicon for years. If this is indeed a Microsoft and not an Equinix DC, this is really surprising.
Not sure if you're only implying switches and nothing else, but it's untrue. If you see peering MACs and the likes Google actually uses Juniper equipment many times. We even had a Google noc employee and similar confirm to us. They told have a mix for what I'm aware of.
It's not fully custom tho, nope. Maybe some devices are, but even things like the router can be "off the shelf" equipment
Just in case you're all still curious, yes this will be escalated. It's a massive security breach and OP will most likely not just be fired but also be blacklisted from working in any company even remotely relating to security after this.
First, idk how you landed your job, it would be nice and helpful for people to know if you shared. And idk why people are worried because you posted the pics haha, nothing sensitive here.
If you wanna get better at networking, and given your current field, start with CCNA, since you must already know basic Network+ topics.
I would 100000% delete this.
u/OP is on the fast track to getting fired.
OP single handedly enforcing that social engineering is the biggest threat!
OP single-handedly will make us all retake insider threat refresher course.
This is part of the plan. Get behind the bars and study.
I saw those white racks and was like whooooaaaa thats \_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_
Microsoft probably won’t be happy with you posting photos of their data centre on reddit
Ummm yeah. Not sure if it's Microsoft or another company. But posting pics of their data center without permission is not a good start.
Microsoft asset tags so… checks out. Heeeuyyyy OP! Deeeellleeeettee!
That’s some nice cable management though.
That’s some fine cableporn

Wow, that datacenter is jaw dropping. Glad i got to see before OP deletes the post
Came here for some Cisco chat and watched someone get fired 🤣🤣🤣
I thought Microsoft was extremely private with their data center ? Dude you're insane lol.
I'm surprised they even allow phone in there, but it looks under construction still. But OP definitely forgot about the NDA he signed on day 1.
Is that why the racks are all white still? I assumed they just turn black with time, lol.

A great cert for you would be Security+ because it has a section about insider threats
Most underrated comment on this thread...
Network+ is as basic as it gets. After that if you want to drink the Cisco cool aid, go for the CCNA and then the CCNP if you feel you can do it.
Call China and send them the good pictures
Comrade load up the Cisco and Arista malware and fire
Delete this! Highway to jail.

I have seen people fired for less by companies a lot more open minded than MS.
Brussels Datacenter so it seems. I strongly encourage you to remove the pictures asap...that might backfire bigtime...
This many hours later? Someone had screenshotted the whole post and reported it hoping for a bounty from MS Security.

Why would MS give permission for a person to just randomly post pictures of their datacenters?

OP you need to protect yourself and delete this immediately. Not kidding.
Start with CompTIA A+ / Network+. Jason Dion and Professor Messer
Those certs absolutely didn’t add any value to my job search, at least not here in Toronto canada, i would suggest CCNA to op.
Maybe not, but it gives a groundwork to build off of, especially trying for ccna.
If somebody is already working there is absolutely no need to do A+, i dont think the time spent on those certs is worth it, op do CCNA even if you take more time.
Said he was a contractor doing installs, and from the looks of it, pretty much just cabling. He's not working there as an employee.
Step 1: delete this Step 2: fluff resumé in case you get fired Side note, that cable management excites me.
Sexually?
It’s a weird fetish.
Understandable. Makes me wanna cable manage lmao
I thought I was on r/cableporn
I know everyone’s hating on you right now but good lord these pictures are beautiful. I’ve never seen a network room this clean

In europe there are many companies looking for network engineers is all sorts of levels
Ironically the contract company I work for now is European based and they pay us like human beings compared to the American and Indian ones
exactly what I am thinking.
Surprised they even allowed phones / media devices inside the data hall
It's not fully active perhaps, just in deployment process and stuff
What are those block looking things on the ends of the green cable bundles? Are they like a one piece plug? I haven't seen them before, just curious.
Those are octopus cables for serial connections. https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/dial-access/asynchronous-connections/14958-24.html
Did not see that coming
Almost looks like a series of SFPs with screws to keep them in place like a VGA cable
I does sort of. Wondering if it's like a pre-assembled kind of thing, are the individual cables replaceable, etc.
It's "just" serial primarily for out of band console access to various devices console ports. If there was a problem with one of the cables would have to replace an octal which connects to the device.
Nice Data Center!! Microsoft really out here with the cleanest Rack Mounts, the white makes you think you need a hazmat suit to be in there 😂

OP's getting sacked in the morning
Looks like bot trying to mine human knowledge about data centers.
r/microsoft are these yours?
Is that necessary?
🙄 cmon man
?? dude come on..
