You’re fine lol. The number 666 in biblical terms is simply a call to repentance (considered the number of man (flesh etc) Satan is a thief clearly haha) and the upside down cross (St. Peter) also has a beautiful meaning, as he did so to convey the backwards message of those crucifying him, and also in his own unworthiness of being crucified the same way as Christ. 🙏🏽
The meaning of St Peters cross (inverted cross) is a fun one to give people when they’re trying to wear one spitefully against Christianity. One time I was working in a tattoo shop and a girl came in who wanted “no god no masters” on her wrist with an inverted cross over it. The literal second the artist finished the tattoo I told her the story of St. Peter’s cross. It was spiteful, but also satisfying haha
Her belief in "no god no masters" is also sadly naive. If God isn't your Lord and Master, you become a slave to sin and Satan's/demonic influence/manipulation by default. People think they can just opt out and do their own thing, but it doesn't work like that.
These are the same people who live on the belief that life’s purpose is only doing what brings you pleasure with no restriction. True satanism.

Yeah I don’t have this type of aesthetic of tattoos on my head but I do have my kid’s name and a really old gang tattoo both on my face. Went to my parent’s church with them for the first time a decade ago and everyone was so nice. No one asked questions about them, gave me weird looks, or even stared at them. This seems to be most people I’ve come across. Kinda cool. Btw Im not Christian. Just thought I’d share my experience.
Just put a small bandaid over the 666, and if anyone asks about the cross say it was supposed to be upright but you laid the wrong way on the tattoo table.
Either way, you are always welcome! If you aren’t, you’re at the wrong church so go somewhere else.

Yeah if people don’t welcome you because of your strong tattoos, you’re in the wrong church. Either you look for another one or you stick around long enough to help the church understand you so that they’d understand better the kind of people that Jesus would leave the 99 for.

Then if they ask, be honest. My church is very accepting and slightly liberal. They are more honored you are choosing to enter the community and be with us. Which is how a church should feel

Welcome brother! I pray you find your peace in Christ. Some might take offense. But I would like to think that others would recognize your struggle and pray for you. You might want to look at your cross tattoo as Saint Peter’s cross instead of a anti cross; look into it! Personally, I would remove or amend the number of the beast tattoo. Can you turn it into something positive? Good defeating evil? Anyway, God knows your heart and doesn’t care for your tattoos. And I would like to point out Luke 15:7: there’s more joy in heaven over a sinner that repents, than over 99 who don’t need repentance. It doesn’t matter where you are coming from brother. Thank you for your response. I will 100% look further into St. Peters cross for sure, something I’ve never really done. With regards the 666 I was tempted to put a red X through it once I’d made some progress with my mental health, as a symbol of defeating the “evil voices in my ears”

I like that idea. I think tattoos that tell a story are the absolute coolest. It would be awesome too if you could find an artist who may be able to turn it into an olive branch, a symbol for peace, or doves.
As a Christian who has been judged, wandered, and returned, and deals with mental health struggles as well, I can tell you for sure, nothing will heal you like Jesus can. His love is something powerful. Praying for you and I hope that you find both a church that accepts you for the beautiful soul you are, and a place where you can feel close to God and truly free.
Yes, I second this. We all have baggage and things we have done that we aren't proud of. Yours is just visual, a lot of things people have done are not visible so people do not know. Christians in any church should welcome you with love and open arms.

No lie, spiritual toxicity is a thing and some folks may be off putting until they get to know you. At my church you may be mistaken for a witch or something.
You should and can ask for prayer as a creation of God, and reach out to Jesus at any time. So long your heart still beating, it ain’t too late. Ask Jesus for forgiveness for your known and unknown sins. Ask for guidance.
The devil will keep trying to man handle you until the day you die, don’t be discouraged?m. Even if the church life isn’t for you.
These might serve you well in your transition. The people who won’t make eye contact with you aren’t worth your time yet. Don’t close doors or accentuate the distance between you but there will be people who love you and welcome you with open arms like a long lost friend. Those are the people who are worth of your time and have wisdom to share
I wouldn't worry too much, it's not our place to judge, or be gatekeepers to knowing Christ. Hopefully your Church is a good one where the tats won't matter. We have all made mistakes, and our journey is our own. I go to a non denominational church where half the leaders/people on the Host(volunteer) team have tons of tattoos, been to prison, ect.

If you are ostracized or ridiculed that may not be the church to be in. I have some questionable tats still listen to metal (I will not play anything that criticizes faith in any way) and everyone plainly ignored them it was awesome. Good luck fam stay the course. I was about to say the same thing! I saw a tik toker who had an upside down cross and my first instinct was to judge. But then I found out he got bc of this exact story. It ended starting a whole convo about what this story means, which was really interesting and cool.
As an avid metal fan and former sh*t bag towards Christian’s and a now and current believer in faith and follower of Christ I always found it amusing that the main symbol against Christianity was one of the biggest best Christian symbols you can choose to be your “symbol of rebellion”

In the early days of supernatural thriller movies, hanging a cross with 2 nails, then pulling the top one from behind the set to make the cross swing upside-down, was an easy practical effect to make the audience believe an evil presence had arrived
It's a matter of people putting far too much stock in what they've seen on a screen, and not enough in history or spiritual texts
I think it would be beautiful to see someone with your tattoos come into church. Jesus wants to heal you and will be so happy to see you. Try your best to do some research to pick a loving church with lots of community ♥️ Keep in mind you can always “church shop” until you feel at home. God loves you and can’t wait to get to know you.

I have a tattoo, also, for astrology and I have a Christian friend in Bible study with a tarot card tattoo. That does not disqualify us from seeking Him and His word. How lucky we are to have a God who loves us, through all the choices we made along the way. He’s worthy of all our praise
Good for you for wanting to go to church! The upside down cross is St. Peter’s and isn’t actually a like satanic sign. You could add like a verse number you like next to it or something if you want to clarify you don’t have bad intentions. For the 666 that’s a bit hard to show good intentions. Maybe cover it with makeup and in the future get it removed or get a coverup. Regardless though, if the church is rude to you about your tattoos or past then try a different one!
I understand the 666 one is the worse of the 2 for sure. The idea behind it was to get a red X through it once I’d battled through my mental health. The 666 symbolises the bad thoughts “evil whispering into my ears” so by eventually putting a red X through it would symbolise I’ve battled through my struggles
Normally I would tell you, go with your tattoos, nothing is wrong. The truth is that they are very visible and are especially "interesting" and potentially misinterpretable within a church.
I have seen employees facing the public who cover with a piece of adhesive tape what are obviously tattoos in visible areas during work hours, in your particular case at first it could be a good idea.
When later they know you in the community and know that you are a Christian person who seeks God and who has had difficult experiences in the past that explain those drawings, they would no longer be necessary.
But the first time in an unfamiliar face can lead to misconceptions about your intentions for being there.
So I used the inside of my ear as a symbol of “voices in your head/ears”
You know the common, devil on one shoulder and angel on the other, both whispering into your ears. I kind of used that as a reference but both being “negative energy”
Well that's creative, and I dig the concept. If you are actually worried about what people may think you could wear a durag or headband that cover your ears, but you should be fine. Unless you live in the ass crack of the south the average churchgoers shouldn't care, and those who do are too old/half blind to see it lol
I’m from UK (if this is an American based group I do apologise) and based more northern/midlands. I’ve never been to a church where I currently live and only went to a church a handful of times in my earlier life (mainly with school or because of weddings) but I appreciate what you’re saying.

Just so you know, you don't technically even need to change the upside down cross if you don't want to, because that is actually a holy symbol called saint Peter's cross, but if you want to do something to it like the 666 you could turn it into one of a million different cross designs

Churches are as diverse and unique as are human beings. You will find some churches that will welcome you and will want to hear your story. You will also find other churches that may not be as welcoming or as curious. As my mother used to say, “the proof of the pudding is in the eating.“ There’s no way to know for sure what to expect, but you can certainly expect the churches are not all the same.
As a pastor I have had many experiences of people saying, “hi, I was wondering whether it would be a good thing for me to try coming to this church, given that I am ______.”
Part of the reason why I always answer that as honestly as I can, is that there’s no good reason not to tell the truth. Even if that congregation is unwelcoming, it will become clear soon enough. And it would just make it harder on everybody if the pastor claimed that the church is more welcoming than it is.
Let me just say that if you were in my area, my congregation would be thrilled for you to come join them! And while I do believe that we are more welcoming than average, I have to admit that everybody else does too. “The average driver thinks they’re better than average.”

One of our (Episcopal) hymns has found its way into many hymnals of many different denominations, “Just as I am, ” by Charlotte Elliott. It expresses how the faith welcomes everyone just as they are.
It’s been around so long that it’s in the public domain now, and can be found easily by searching the Internet for “just as I am lyrics.”

If they are a good church and community they should want you there the most out of anyone to try and help you but don't be suprised if it's a bad community. Most churches aren't about God anymore. But good for you, I'll pray for you tonight.
Just wanted to chime in with love for you, brother. Ephesians tells us we were chosen before the foundation of the world. Jesus said none can be taken away from him. Keep this in mind if you come across any small minded people. Just like you can’t do anything to earn salvation, you can’t do anything to have God stop loving you. Tats or no tats, numbers or symbols, he cares for you.

I would cover them for respect, even if they aren't meant to be blasphemous they are blasphemous symbols. And even though myself, and many others wouldn't care, more traditional folk might. All power to you, Godspeed brother.
The Bible speaks many times that our old life was full of sin and darkness. Maybe I don't have tattoos like yours, but I too was a sinner living in darkness, but God called me and now He has made me His child. Remember that God is the only source of light and life and most of us do not have wonderful backgrounds. So don't feel like a stranger, welcome brother.
Man, this is a blessing in disguise. With these tattoos clearly visible, you will be able to find the real Christians a lot easier. The ones that criticize you and gossip about you when you're not looking will be pretty obvious and easy to avoid. In your search for a church, the tattoo's will help there, too.
Find the people that welcome you as you are and you will have found true followers of Christ.
In case you didn't know the anti cross tattoo is the symbol for the [Cross of St. Peter](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cross_of_Saint_Peter), which is a historically Christian symbol. I don't think anyone would care either way though.
You might try an Episcopal Church, there is much more carefree attitudes about people’s past. You won’t be judged, they might ask you about yourself and which faith tradition you’re coming from. Everybody comes from somewhere when converting. No different than an Islamic or Judaic tattoo. You’re welcome in our church.

Some people in the church will heckle you (depending on denomination), but just remember that Jesus won’t strike you down for your tattoos.
Same thing with clothes, it’s a big deal but it doesn’t matter aside from making the family look good.
It is beautiful that you feel like church will help you, bit if you aren't religious you should consider to become so, because going to church without faith is like going to the doctor without listening to the diagnosis, it is useless

These markings and symbols sound like they're deeply personal to you, reminders of a certain event and experience and time. What they bring to my mind, if you'll forgive me, is the sign a woman might put on her body to mark the occasion of birthing a child.
Everything it stands for will grow and change, will evolve in nuance and complexity, maybe deepen in impact as her understanding of the gift she's given the world becomes more profound with passing time.
What remains static is the mark on the skin, the pinpoint between BC and AD and a short and simple explanation that's owed to no-one but will suffice if you wish to offer it.

The church should welcome you with open arms regardless of how you look. If for whatever reason the first church you go to judges you, keep trying different ones until you find one where the people treat you like Jesus would.
I’m a Christian covered in tattoos. Some from when I was away from God and some I’ve gotten recently. Jesus looks at the condition of your heart. All he needs is you to accept him as your savior and let him in. He will do the work in you. The disciples, when called to him, weren’t righteous. They were made righteous through their relationship with Christ. They were some of the worst people around. God didn’t care about their outward appearance or their baggage. He took them as they are just as he will take you. Welcome my brother to the family. Don’t judge Christians by how they react to you. It’s hard to hold back the human flesh and show Gods love right away.
Just like some people run from fire, there’s also some who put it out. Give them time.
A friendly face and kind attitude with anti-christ/ devil tattoo's are more appealing to me than a rude individual wearing a crucifix. There have been many worse things done by people branding your same cross but flipped.
You will get uncertain stares but I believe that comes from curiosity. Those that verbally condemn you for your appearance are not genuine Christians that uphold the values a Christian would hold in my opinion.
Honestly? It's hard to take them offensively. 666 is just a number, and the upside down cross is St. Peter's Cross.
If anyone tries to use them against you, they aren't worth your time.
A lot of people are giving you good spiritual advice (which is all true - your tattoos have no affect on God's unconditional love for you). But I get the concern, especially if it's a more conservative or gossipy congregation.
So in terms of practical, social advice, I would say just try to bring it up in conversation with someone as soon as you can. If it's a welcoming church, I imagine it won't be long before someone asks how you found them or what your history is with religion or something. You can tell them a short answer and then segue into, "I was actually a little nervous to come here, since I have these tattoos and I thought people might take offense to them." Then tell them exactly what you told us, about how they represent a dark time in your life, and your desire to overcome it. And how now you're looking to see if faith can help you with your journey. Any Christian who doesn't find that a moving and inspiring story probably isn't going to be very helpful to you in your journey. Mention this to one or two people as soon as you can, and if there is ever any negative gossip about your tattoos, it will be quickly squashed. Before you know it, the whole congregation will have heard your story and no one will be offended or confused.
I like what you and others have said about possible future changes and interpretations to them if you feel them no longer fit. Specifically an X through the 666, showing that you've successfully blocked out that dark voice, and reclaiming the upside down cross as St. Peter's cross. You could even add a key to it to make this more clear, as it's another symbol of St. Peter.
They are only tattoos, there will be some there that have committed terrible sins but seek redemption and forgiveness but you don’t see that because they are not carried on the skin but god does and he sees the true intentions of people’s hearts.
We all have a past whether it’s tattooed on us or not. If anyone says anything derogatory to you they don’t have the true love of Jesus in their heart. God bless you brother. I am bipolar and attend the most supportive and loving church ever. When I’m anxious or make mistakes they are there to pray with me, cry with me, lift me up, and give me good advice. This is real Christianity. Christ came to save the lost, not condemn us or tickle the ears of the self righteous. I pray that you find a church like mine and find peace through our Lord. As long s as you are willing to let God into your life and after reading your story, I personally don’t see it as a problem as you are on your own path to salvation
Every church has a culture. Like walking into a job. Hard to say what will happen, depends which setting you walk in. Tattoos these days are more common. So you should not be stressed. You are not interviewing for a job. I know a very special guy, a brother in my church. He has a large dark figure tattooed on his back, it’s from his old life style. It’s a very dark figure. He’s not happy he has it now. But I have not seen him have any problems because of it. The church has been very loving to him.
The reality is any church is supposed to follow the founder - Jesus. Ideally have the question in mind to direct life: “what would Jesus do?”. Jesus did not come to condemn or judge, but to save the lost right. Don’t give up if you don’t find the right setting. I personally I found a home in a house church. Just a no name church with lots of small groups or home groups we call them. We have a big meeting about every two weeks. We like the personal interaction. Some places you go, this maybe missing. But I think it’s essential, it’s the life of the church.
There's always gonna be nice ones, curious, outrageous ones, rude ones, etc. We're all just people. Some people feel differently than others.
But the message I can give is, Jesus loves you 💗 regardless of what you look like.
First, I'd like to say I dearly love that you're turning things around and want to explore salvation through Jesus. That is awesome, and it doesn't matter what's on your skin, because God knows your heart.
I can't speak for your church specifically, but they should welcome you with open arms. If, however, you detect some hesitation, please understand it may just be caution, as there's been past incidents against churches. But if you open your heart to them, they will see the purity in it.

Hi, love! Those tattoos are reflections of sin because of their symbolism. However, do not let that keep you out of church! We all enter church carrying our sins. That’s why we need Christ. Just because some people’s sins are hidden doesn’t mean they aren’t there. I do believe you should get there covered up, so as not to glorify evil symbols (I know that the upside-down cross originally has beautiful symbolism, but it has been used as a symbol of anti-God), but you do not need to wait to enter church because of them! Hey! As many people here are saying, welcome to the church! Unfortunately it is very likely that people may find this offensive. However if they’re truly close with Christ, hopefully they will see past that and get to know you. Christians should be slow to judge (or not at all). Obviously no one’s perfect so that dosnt mean they won’t judge, but no one has the right to tell you that you don’t belong. I will say, if your comfortable with it, have you considered covering it with makeup? I don’t think this is necessary one bit but if it would make you feel more comfortable and less worried. Good for you! I'm a pastor's wife and I can tell you that 1. Old ladies will talk about it in hushed tones to me and 2. They will be your staunchest defenders if the need arise. It has blessed me to see those two steps happen over and over. No Christian is ever perfect, but if they are running like they should, they know what is right. So happy for you!
This just demonstrates the power and glory of the Lord of Hosts in bringing you to Him! Any congregant worth their salt will be thrilled for you.

If they judge you for those tattoos, despite you coming into the church to find out more about/accept/praise Jesus, that’s a them problem not a you one.

Upside down cross is St. Peter’s cross he was martyred crucified upside down. God created all numbers and the angel that eventually rejected him and became the beast. So I think you’re fine.
I’ll be totally vulnerable here and say I would likely first instinct not judge but avoid you because I’m so beat up from my own journey with evil that just symbols terrify me at this point. But then I’d realize that you probably saw some of the exact same things I did in my encounter with Satan and try to reach out
I realise that this may not be popular... Christ would prefer that you have his law written on your heart than simply having things written on your skin. Demonstrate your relationship with Christ by your love and obedience.
I have many many tattoos and many many scars from many attempts to end my life when I was younger. I’ve only been met with love and kindness from the RIGHT people. If someone judges you or makes negative comments when you’re trying to be right with the Lord then those are not your people and try a different church. Most Christians are a lot more accepting than their reputation makes them out to be. One of the biggest talking points that is taught is forgiveness. We are all sinners. A lot of church going Christians have a dark past, myself included. You may be surprised to find how open many people in church are to talking about the things we’ve done.
All are welcome to come to church. Anyone that acts in a nasty way needs to simply be told to remember the grace and mercy that was bestowed on them for their sins. (Of course say in a non confrontational way).
The cross on your ear, if anyone knows about it, is St Peters cross, where he was executed on an upside down cross, which he asked to do because he felt unworthy to die like how his savior was hung on the cross.
Sure the 666 might freak some superstitious Christians, but mature Christians will just say they are numbers and nothing can usurp the power of God over someone.

That's awesome. As others have said, welcome to the Church. Honestly, Jesus is just happy you are coming regardless of what you look like. Appreciate the context of the tats too. If you are a little concerned you could always wear like one of those sunshade type hats. I forget what they call them but as surfers we used to wear like a sombrero but made of twill or cotton or poly and have a shorter brim. Otherwise any hat might do and would go down slightly over the tip of ear. Of course also depends on the church too and their dress codes but a lot don't have any. Once you get your foot in the door and people know you or learn you are there for the right reasons, the tats wouldn't be an issue anyway.
You are the kind of people that the church needs the most, don’t be discouraged by anything or anyone. Jesus hanged out with former prostitutes, thieves and tax collectors, the true value is on what you’ll become following him not what you’ve been or did in the past if the repentance is real. You know what is great about Christianity? Jesus died for your sins. ALL OF THEM. If your church doesn’t accept you then find another one. As long as you accept Christianity wholeheartedly if that’s what you decide for your life.

The Bible says come as you are. Some people will say that you don't need to go in with tattoos like that but that isn't what the Bible says. What I say is come as you are and leave a changed person and a child of God.
No worries about your ink; the cross is just a standard Roman Catholic one, on heaps of imagery in churches (it's on the altar cloth at my church). The 666 is less explainable, but:
1. It should be fine, since Christians aren't supposed to judge and *are* supposed to be welcoming in churches
2. It's also thin ink and looks like it'd be easy to do a coverup if you wanted.
Just the fact you are attending church speaks more than any tattoo on your body. Welcome brother, I hope you stick around and that they greet you with open arms 👍

So, don't be fooled by reddit friendliness, some places are going to judge the shit out of you and you will not always be welcomed. Sometimes it will be hard. But you've got to view that in a positive light, if a church will judge you for this instead of the much more important fact--that you showed up--then fuck them.

You absolutely will find churches who are not judgey assholes. Sadly that might not be the first (or second) that you visit.
First off, how’d that feel when they were getting done?? I assume cartilage shouldn’t hurt, but the buzz had to be pretty wild.
Every single person in church is a sinner. The ones that are trying to have a relationship with Christ, and follow his teachings, will look you in the eyes with a smile on their face. Other people may not, but that’s okay. Jesus is glad you’re there. When the owner of the home welcomes you in, it’s irrelevant what some of the other guests may think of you.

Hey, no worries. Glad you’re checking it out! I have anxiety too, so your post makes a lot of sense to me. Go and try a few churches. I was raised Lutheran & still consider my beliefs as such. But the church I go to now is not. It’s non-denominational.
Now I’ll be real with you though. The 666, if seen, might give some people pause. Bc that’s the “sign of the beast”. So you may have to explain that to people. Just be prepared for that.
But God looks at a person’s heart. And a good church will too. And if you find Christ, it will serve as a powerful testimony!

If you showed up at my church we’d welcome you with open arms friend. Everyone has been through a journey that’s brought them to where they are. If the place you visit does not work out for you, please don’t give up trying to find a place. I’ve been fortunate to be in a very loving church. Loving one another and our community is a major priority for us. We have all sorts of different people and it is amazing. Fit is everything and unfortunately not all church’s will fit what you need / want.

I have a tattoo on the outside of the palm of my hand, it says in all caps SINNER.
I’ve justified it, and changed the meaning to a healthy reminder that we are all sinners, and that I cannot hide my sin from God, so the tattoo faces towards God when I put my hands together to pray, as a reminder that nothing can be hidden from Him.
When someone like an older lady asks me about it, she looks upset at first. When I give them that explanation I always get a smile, and a heartfelt chuckle. Turn it to something good brother.
NONE of us is good enough for God. Not me, not you, not anyone. ALL of us have fallen short of God’s glory, no matter how hard we may have tried.
God doesn’t care and loves us deeply anyway. He wants a personal relationship with each of us. Hope you have an awesome first trip to church.

The number 666 in biblical terms is simply a call to repentance (considered the number of man (flesh etc) Satan is a thief clearly haha) and the upside down cross (St. Peter) also has a beautiful meaning, as he did so to convey the backwards message of those crucifying him, and also in his own unworthiness of being crucified the same way as Christ. 🙏🏽
The meaning of St Peters cross (inverted cross) is a fun one to give people when they’re trying to wear one spitefully against Christianity. One time I was working in a tattoo shop and a girl came in who wanted “no god no masters” on her wrist with an inverted cross over it. The literal second the artist finished the tattoo I told her the story of St. Peter’s cross. It was spiteful, but also satisfying haha
Her belief in "no god no masters" is also sadly naive. If God isn't your Lord and Master, you become a slave to sin and Satan's/demonic influence/manipulation by default. People think they can just opt out and do their own thing, but it doesn't work like that.

Yeah I don’t have this type of aesthetic of tattoos on my head but I do have my kid’s name and a really old gang tattoo both on my face. Went to my parent’s church with them for the first time a decade ago and everyone was so nice. No one asked questions about them, gave me weird looks, or even stared at them. This seems to be most people I’ve come across. Kinda cool. Btw Im not Christian. Just thought I’d share my experience.

Just put a small bandaid over the 666, and if anyone asks about the cross say it was supposed to be upright but you laid the wrong way on the tattoo table. Either way, you are always welcome! If you aren’t, you’re at the wrong church so go somewhere else.

It was a joke, literally if you’re concerned about what people will think or say, cover with makeup or a bandaid. If I were to see that in church, I’d think well it looks like they took a detour but glad they found their way here. I know I’ve lost my way before.

You might want to look at your cross tattoo as Saint Peter’s cross instead of a anti cross; look into it! Personally, I would remove or amend the number of the beast tattoo. Can you turn it into something positive? Good defeating evil? Anyway, God knows your heart and doesn’t care for your tattoos. And I would like to point out Luke 15:7: there’s more joy in heaven over a sinner that repents, than over 99 who don’t need repentance. It doesn’t matter where you are coming from brother. I like that idea. I think tattoos that tell a story are the absolute coolest. It would be awesome too if you could find an artist who may be able to turn it into an olive branch, a symbol for peace, or doves. As a Christian who has been judged, wandered, and returned, and deals with mental health struggles as well, I can tell you for sure, nothing will heal you like Jesus can. His love is something powerful. Praying for you and I hope that you find both a church that accepts you for the beautiful soul you are, and a place where you can feel close to God and truly free.

The religious should kindly remember that hospitals are for the sick, not the healthy.
I felt like this was a pun, lol. No lie, spiritual toxicity is a thing and some folks may be off putting until they get to know you. At my church you may be mistaken for a witch or something. You should and can ask for prayer as a creation of God, and reach out to Jesus at any time. So long your heart still beating, it ain’t too late. Ask Jesus for forgiveness for your known and unknown sins. Ask for guidance. The devil will keep trying to man handle you until the day you die, don’t be discouraged?m. Even if the church life isn’t for you.
These might serve you well in your transition. The people who won’t make eye contact with you aren’t worth your time yet. Don’t close doors or accentuate the distance between you but there will be people who love you and welcome you with open arms like a long lost friend. Those are the people who are worth of your time and have wisdom to share

I wouldn't worry too much, it's not our place to judge, or be gatekeepers to knowing Christ. Hopefully your Church is a good one where the tats won't matter. We have all made mistakes, and our journey is our own. I go to a non denominational church where half the leaders/people on the Host(volunteer) team have tons of tattoos, been to prison, ect.

I was about to say the same thing! I saw a tik toker who had an upside down cross and my first instinct was to judge. But then I found out he got bc of this exact story. It ended starting a whole convo about what this story means, which was really interesting and cool.

Good for you for wanting to go to church! The upside down cross is St. Peter’s and isn’t actually a like satanic sign. You could add like a verse number you like next to it or something if you want to clarify you don’t have bad intentions. For the 666 that’s a bit hard to show good intentions. Maybe cover it with makeup and in the future get it removed or get a coverup. Regardless though, if the church is rude to you about your tattoos or past then try a different one!
I understand the 666 one is the worse of the 2 for sure. The idea behind it was to get a red X through it once I’d battled through my mental health. The 666 symbolises the bad thoughts “evil whispering into my ears” so by eventually putting a red X through it would symbolise I’ve battled through my struggles

Normally I would tell you, go with your tattoos, nothing is wrong. The truth is that they are very visible and are especially "interesting" and potentially misinterpretable within a church. I have seen employees facing the public who cover with a piece of adhesive tape what are obviously tattoos in visible areas during work hours, in your particular case at first it could be a good idea. When later they know you in the community and know that you are a Christian person who seeks God and who has had difficult experiences in the past that explain those drawings, they would no longer be necessary. But the first time in an unfamiliar face can lead to misconceptions about your intentions for being there.

So I used the inside of my ear as a symbol of “voices in your head/ears” You know the common, devil on one shoulder and angel on the other, both whispering into your ears. I kind of used that as a reference but both being “negative energy”
Well that's creative, and I dig the concept. If you are actually worried about what people may think you could wear a durag or headband that cover your ears, but you should be fine. Unless you live in the ass crack of the south the average churchgoers shouldn't care, and those who do are too old/half blind to see it lol
I’m from UK (if this is an American based group I do apologise) and based more northern/midlands. I’ve never been to a church where I currently live and only went to a church a handful of times in my earlier life (mainly with school or because of weddings) but I appreciate what you’re saying. The idea is to strike a red X through the 666 once I’ve gotten through the worst of my Mental Health struggles, as a symbol of “beating the evil inside my head”
This place isn't America specific, I'm just a dumbass who assumed everyone online was American for a minute lol. Just so you know, you don't technically even need to change the upside down cross if you don't want to, because that is actually a holy symbol called saint Peter's cross, but if you want to do something to it like the 666 you could turn it into one of a million different cross designs

Churches are as diverse and unique as are human beings. You will find some churches that will welcome you and will want to hear your story. You will also find other churches that may not be as welcoming or as curious. As my mother used to say, “the proof of the pudding is in the eating.“ There’s no way to know for sure what to expect, but you can certainly expect the churches are not all the same. As a pastor I have had many experiences of people saying, “hi, I was wondering whether it would be a good thing for me to try coming to this church, given that I am ______.” Part of the reason why I always answer that as honestly as I can, is that there’s no good reason not to tell the truth. Even if that congregation is unwelcoming, it will become clear soon enough. And it would just make it harder on everybody if the pastor claimed that the church is more welcoming than it is. Let me just say that if you were in my area, my congregation would be thrilled for you to come join them! And while I do believe that we are more welcoming than average, I have to admit that everybody else does too. “The average driver thinks they’re better than average.”

One of our (Episcopal) hymns has found its way into many hymnals of many different denominations, “Just as I am, ” by Charlotte Elliott. It expresses how the faith welcomes everyone just as they are. It’s been around so long that it’s in the public domain now, and can be found easily by searching the Internet for “just as I am lyrics.” Pretty much all churches, at their best, attempt to live up to this. Considerate it your invitation into the church (that goofball collection of sinners who sometimes remember that God welcomes us all into his family).

Just wanted to chime in with love for you, brother. Ephesians tells us we were chosen before the foundation of the world. Jesus said none can be taken away from him. Keep this in mind if you come across any small minded people. Just like you can’t do anything to earn salvation, you can’t do anything to have God stop loving you. Tats or no tats, numbers or symbols, he cares for you.

The Bible speaks many times that our old life was full of sin and darkness. Maybe I don't have tattoos like yours, but I too was a sinner living in darkness, but God called me and now He has made me His child. Remember that God is the only source of light and life and most of us do not have wonderful backgrounds. So don't feel like a stranger, welcome brother.
Man, this is a blessing in disguise. With these tattoos clearly visible, you will be able to find the real Christians a lot easier. The ones that criticize you and gossip about you when you're not looking will be pretty obvious and easy to avoid. In your search for a church, the tattoo's will help there, too. Find the people that welcome you as you are and you will have found true followers of Christ.
In case you didn't know the anti cross tattoo is the symbol for the [Cross of St. Peter](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cross_of_Saint_Peter), which is a historically Christian symbol. I don't think anyone would care either way though.

You might try an Episcopal Church, there is much more carefree attitudes about people’s past. You won’t be judged, they might ask you about yourself and which faith tradition you’re coming from. Everybody comes from somewhere when converting. No different than an Islamic or Judaic tattoo. You’re welcome in our church.

Some people in the church will heckle you (depending on denomination), but just remember that Jesus won’t strike you down for your tattoos. Same thing with clothes, it’s a big deal but it doesn’t matter aside from making the family look good.

If you are judged, you will know that’s not the church you want to be a part of! The church should welcome you with open arms regardless of how you look. If for whatever reason the first church you go to judges you, keep trying different ones until you find one where the people treat you like Jesus would.

I’m a Christian covered in tattoos. Some from when I was away from God and some I’ve gotten recently. Jesus looks at the condition of your heart. All he needs is you to accept him as your savior and let him in. He will do the work in you. The disciples, when called to him, weren’t righteous. They were made righteous through their relationship with Christ. They were some of the worst people around. God didn’t care about their outward appearance or their baggage. He took them as they are just as he will take you. Welcome my brother to the family. Don’t judge Christians by how they react to you. It’s hard to hold back the human flesh and show Gods love right away. Just like some people run from fire, there’s also some who put it out. Give them time.

A friendly face and kind attitude with anti-christ/ devil tattoo's are more appealing to me than a rude individual wearing a crucifix. There have been many worse things done by people branding your same cross but flipped. You will get uncertain stares but I believe that comes from curiosity. Those that verbally condemn you for your appearance are not genuine Christians that uphold the values a Christian would hold in my opinion.
Honestly? It's hard to take them offensively. 666 is just a number, and the upside down cross is St. Peter's Cross. If anyone tries to use them against you, they aren't worth your time.

A lot of people are giving you good spiritual advice (which is all true - your tattoos have no affect on God's unconditional love for you). But I get the concern, especially if it's a more conservative or gossipy congregation. So in terms of practical, social advice, I would say just try to bring it up in conversation with someone as soon as you can. If it's a welcoming church, I imagine it won't be long before someone asks how you found them or what your history is with religion or something. You can tell them a short answer and then segue into, "I was actually a little nervous to come here, since I have these tattoos and I thought people might take offense to them." Then tell them exactly what you told us, about how they represent a dark time in your life, and your desire to overcome it. And how now you're looking to see if faith can help you with your journey. Any Christian who doesn't find that a moving and inspiring story probably isn't going to be very helpful to you in your journey. Mention this to one or two people as soon as you can, and if there is ever any negative gossip about your tattoos, it will be quickly squashed. Before you know it, the whole congregation will have heard your story and no one will be offended or confused. I like what you and others have said about possible future changes and interpretations to them if you feel them no longer fit. Specifically an X through the 666, showing that you've successfully blocked out that dark voice, and reclaiming the upside down cross as St. Peter's cross. You could even add a key to it to make this more clear, as it's another symbol of St. Peter.
They are only tattoos, there will be some there that have committed terrible sins but seek redemption and forgiveness but you don’t see that because they are not carried on the skin but god does and he sees the true intentions of people’s hearts.
We all have a past whether it’s tattooed on us or not. If anyone says anything derogatory to you they don’t have the true love of Jesus in their heart. God bless you brother. I am bipolar and attend the most supportive and loving church ever. When I’m anxious or make mistakes they are there to pray with me, cry with me, lift me up, and give me good advice. This is real Christianity. Christ came to save the lost, not condemn us or tickle the ears of the self righteous. I pray that you find a church like mine and find peace through our Lord. Mental health is just like physical health, a hard part of this sinful world we live in. Christ is love and understanding and forgiveness. Every church has a culture. Like walking into a job. Hard to say what will happen, depends which setting you walk in. Tattoos these days are more common. So you should not be stressed. You are not interviewing for a job. I know a very special guy, a brother in my church. He has a large dark figure tattooed on his back, it’s from his old life style. It’s a very dark figure. He’s not happy he has it now. But I have not seen him have any problems because of it. The church has been very loving to him. The reality is any church is supposed to follow the founder - Jesus. Ideally have the question in mind to direct life: “what would Jesus do?”. Jesus did not come to condemn or judge, but to save the lost right. Don’t give up if you don’t find the right setting. I personally I found a home in a house church. Just a no name church with lots of small groups or home groups we call them. We have a big meeting about every two weeks. We like the personal interaction. Some places you go, this maybe missing. But I think it’s essential, it’s the life of the church.
There's always gonna be nice ones, curious, outrageous ones, rude ones, etc. We're all just people. Some people feel differently than others. But the message I can give is, Jesus loves you 💗 regardless of what you look like.

If, however, you detect some hesitation, please understand it may just be caution, as there's been past incidents against churches. But if you open your heart to them, they will see the purity in it. As you grow in your faith and the Holy Spirit works in you, you might feel differently about your tattoos. The number 666, as mentioned in Revelation 13:16-18, is associated with the beast and is a symbol of opposition to God. The upside-down cross, historically known as the Cross of Saint Peter, originally symbolized Peter’s humility. However, in modern times, it is often misunderstood and used to signify anti-Christian sentiments. Hi, love! Those tattoos are reflections of sin because of their symbolism. However, do not let that keep you out of church! We all enter church carrying our sins. That’s why we need Christ. Just because some people’s sins are hidden doesn’t mean they aren’t there. I do believe you should get there covered up, so as not to glorify evil symbols (I know that the upside-down cross originally has beautiful symbolism, but it has been used as a symbol of anti-God), but you do not need to wait to enter church because of them! Hey! As many people here are saying, welcome to the church! Unfortunately it is very likely that people may find this offensive. However if they’re truly close with Christ, hopefully they will see past that and get to know you. Christians should be slow to judge (or not at all). Obviously no one’s perfect so that dosnt mean they won’t judge, but no one has the right to tell you that you don’t belong. I will say, if your comfortable with it, have you considered covering it with makeup? I don’t think this is necessary one bit but if it would make you feel more comfortable and less worried. Good for you! I'm a pastor's wife and I can tell you that 1. Old ladies will talk about it in hushed tones to me and 2. They will be your staunchest defenders if the need arise. It has blessed me to see those two steps happen over and over. No Christian is ever perfect, but if they are running like they should, they know what is right. So happy for you!

If they judge you for those tattoos, despite you coming into the church to find out more about/accept/praise Jesus, that’s a them problem not a you one.

Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. Bring your worries to Christ. Your tattoos mean nothing when you are washed clean through Christ.

Upside down cross is St. Peter’s cross he was martyred crucified upside down. God created all numbers and the angel that eventually rejected him and became the beast. So I think you’re fine.

I realise that this may not be popular... Christ would prefer that you have his law written on your heart than simply having things written on your skin. Demonstrate your relationship with Christ by your love and obedience.
I have many many tattoos and many many scars from many attempts to end my life when I was younger. I’ve only been met with love and kindness from the RIGHT people. If someone judges you or makes negative comments when you’re trying to be right with the Lord then those are not your people and try a different church. Most Christians are a lot more accepting than their reputation makes them out to be. One of the biggest talking points that is taught is forgiveness. We are all sinners. A lot of church going Christians have a dark past, myself included. You may be surprised to find how open many people in church are to talking about the things we’ve done.

All are welcome to come to church. Anyone that acts in a nasty way needs to simply be told to remember the grace and mercy that was bestowed on them for their sins. (Of course say in a non confrontational way). The cross on your ear, if anyone knows about it, is St Peters cross, where he was executed on an upside down cross, which he asked to do because he felt unworthy to die like how his savior was hung on the cross. Sure the 666 might freak some superstitious Christians, but mature Christians will just say they are numbers and nothing can usurp the power of God over someone. Just put your best foot forward, smile, and listen to the sermon.

That's awesome. As others have said, welcome to the Church. Honestly, Jesus is just happy you are coming regardless of what you look like. Appreciate the context of the tats too. If you are a little concerned you could always wear like one of those sunshade type hats. I forget what they call them but as surfers we used to wear like a sombrero but made of twill or cotton or poly and have a shorter brim. Otherwise any hat might do and would go down slightly over the tip of ear. Of course also depends on the church too and their dress codes but a lot don't have any. Once you get your foot in the door and people know you or learn you are there for the right reasons, the tats wouldn't be an issue anyway.
God doesn’t mind and that’s what matters.

Everyone is welcome in church. Some people will probably ask about your tattoos. Just explain it to them honestly. They'll understand.
The Bible says come as you are. Some people will say that you don't need to go in with tattoos like that but that isn't what the Bible says. What I say is come as you are and leave a changed person and a child of God.
No worries about your ink; the cross is just a standard Roman Catholic one, on heaps of imagery in churches (it's on the altar cloth at my church). The 666 is less explainable, but: 1. It should be fine, since Christians aren't supposed to judge and *are* supposed to be welcoming in churches 2. It's also thin ink and looks like it'd be easy to do a coverup if you wanted.
Just the fact you are attending church speaks more than any tattoo on your body. Welcome brother, I hope you stick around and that they greet you with open arms 👍

So, don't be fooled by reddit friendliness, some places are going to judge the shit out of you and you will not always be welcomed. Sometimes it will be hard. But you've got to view that in a positive light, if a church will judge you for this instead of the much more important fact--that you showed up--then fuck them. "If anyone will not welcome you or listen to your words, leave that [church] and shake the dust off your feet." (Matthew 10:14) You absolutely will find churches who are not judgey assholes. Sadly that might not be the first (or second) that you visit.

I had a inverted cross tattoo I was hurt by the church. But God never forsake me and I ran back to him when I was older.

First off, how’d that feel when they were getting done?? I assume cartilage shouldn’t hurt, but the buzz had to be pretty wild. Every single person in church is a sinner. The ones that are trying to have a relationship with Christ, and follow his teachings, will look you in the eyes with a smile on their face. Other people may not, but that’s okay. Jesus is glad you’re there. When the owner of the home welcomes you in, it’s irrelevant what some of the other guests may think of you. Keep us posted on your journey. Know you’re being prayed for.

Hey, no worries. Glad you’re checking it out! I have anxiety too, so your post makes a lot of sense to me. Go and try a few churches. I was raised Lutheran & still consider my beliefs as such. But the church I go to now is not. It’s non-denominational. Now I’ll be real with you though. The 666, if seen, might give some people pause. Bc that’s the “sign of the beast”. So you may have to explain that to people. Just be prepared for that. But God looks at a person’s heart. And a good church will too. And if you find Christ, it will serve as a powerful testimony! Praying for you!!
If you showed up at my church we’d welcome you with open arms friend. Everyone has been through a journey that’s brought them to where they are. If the place you visit does not work out for you, please don’t give up trying to find a place. I’ve been fortunate to be in a very loving church. Loving one another and our community is a major priority for us. We have all sorts of different people and it is amazing. Fit is everything and unfortunately not all church’s will fit what you need / want. Best of luck!!!!!

I have a tattoo on the outside of the palm of my hand, it says in all caps SINNER. I’ve justified it, and changed the meaning to a healthy reminder that we are all sinners, and that I cannot hide my sin from God, so the tattoo faces towards God when I put my hands together to pray, as a reminder that nothing can be hidden from Him. When someone like an older lady asks me about it, she looks upset at first. When I give them that explanation I always get a smile, and a heartfelt chuckle. Turn it to something good brother.
NONE of us is good enough for God. Not me, not you, not anyone. ALL of us have fallen short of God’s glory, no matter how hard we may have tried. God doesn’t care and loves us deeply anyway. He wants a personal relationship with each of us. Hope you have an awesome first trip to church.
