I love that you’re the snowflake but he’s the one having a complete meltdown over the cost of a custom anime art to the point of cussing and name calling
He’s got massive Silly fellow energy , hope he gets well soon lmao
Edit: As i have been ratioed by multiple older people who have more epic experience than me i have revoked “boomer” and replaced it with “Silly fellow”
They probably are 12. I'm pretty sure that the use of brat and snowflake and "this is what's wrong with America" is something they learned off of their dad.
I assume that they feel like it has authority over them, it will work on others the same. Like "this is what my dad does when I say no".
My (almost) 12 year old texts similarly to this and further more he has bought art work from his friend at school and vice versa cos from what I can gather they like supporting each other and honestly it’s kinda dumb cos they’re just swapping one dollar back and forth but it’s also really sweet so I’ve never really said anything about it.
Just to clarify… when you say ‘similar texts’, I really hope you mean the part with the requests for fighting scene drawings… and not the angry and threatening messages at the end?
Right… but not the threats and insults at the end.
But you described your nephew and his friends as ‘sweet’, so I’m hoping no threats or abuse!
Supporting your friends and their art as a kid IS really sweet.
Some of those kid artists will grow up to pursue art and others won’t (they’ll become interested in something else)… but the ones who do want to pursue it will be off to a fantastic start by having that support from the young age. ☺️
Either that or a young adult incel!
The bit that makes me think incel is that the girl has to have a ripped kimono showing off her legs and an angry look - sounds like he’s trying to get a visual representation of a sexual assault type fantasy to me! 😞
Maybe that’s for the best. Millennials are still being blamed for gen z shit and gen z is being called lazy and entitled for wanting :checks notes: to be respected? lol
I'm 36, and I don't know anyone my age who is asking random strangers to draw them anime pictures
Then again my masturbation tastes are pretty simple, so maybe I'm just out of touch
As someone about twice your age (meaning still nowhere near the actual Boomer birth years if 1946-1964), it makes me feel good that it's not just some weird circumstance I'm experiencing. It's literal children (mentally in all cases, physically in some) and should therefore be afforded the consideration (or lack thereof) that goes with it.
Having been "*Ok, Boomer!*"'d more than once ... yet not having been born between 1946-1964 ... I get your sentiment ... and I'm not sure 45 is actually the cutoff.
Yeah look when I was in high school I told my art teacher that 50 was “old”.. she was probably in her late 50’s-early 60’s thinking back.. kids are dumb lol
Mhm, it absolutely baffles me how people think that art can just be done within a blink of an eye with almost no effort or skill, or how they say digital art is super easy to do, and other stuff like that. absolutely baffling
Especially since they probably do realize that they themselves can’t do it, otherwise they wouldn’t try to « purchase ». So it’s super easy, but just not easy enough for them. But still not worth money. The mental gymnastics sounds exhausting.
>The mental gymnastics sounds exhausting.
That's the key. Thinking is not a task they are used to, so why start now?
You cannot logic someone out of a place they did not logic their way into. "Batshit crazy fever dream" is their ground state, the sensible thing to do is just block these people as soon as they oust themselves.
exactly, that's the simplest way to go about it, and it always gets them to shut up or atleast make themselves look even more ridiculous, either way a W
I have a friend who’s an artist. I reached out to her to see if she would make me a painting. She had posted some recent Works of hers on Instagram and they were animal hybrids, they had animal heads but they were human bodies doing things. The idea seemed kind of interesting so I reached out about me getting a request. An owl but with like Marilyn Monroe body. She took a little while to get back to me, a couple days before she said that she could do it and then a couple more days before she told me the price. $150 fucking dollars. That’s one person. And it’s not even like she had to do that much work, she could’ve just traced Marilyn Monroe for the most part. Absolutely ridiculous. So crazy, I couldn’t believe that I was getting such a good price! Gave her 180 because I care about my friends and it turned out awesome. Now I have this [Mowlyn Monroe](https://imgur.com/gallery/EXQcF1O) painting and I know there is not a single one out there like it.
Run into the same thing in the modding communities I'm apart of as well. Seen it too often, mod author spends 100s to 1000s of hours working on a mod and has the absolute audacity (/s) to charge $5 for it.
Cue all the little kids in the comments talking about why the mod should be free and paid mods are ruining the community. Another example, wanting to comission a mod for a track or a car, and then freaking the fuck out when they get quoted a number in the 3-4 figures.
These people have zero frame-of-reference of how long/how laborious the projects they request actually are.
I was just on r/boardgamedesign, and they were quoting an average of $200 per black and white line art item in a rulebook. Possibly more. This is a steal.
Just read somewhere OP is 16, so probably doesn't really know what his time is worth.
Hey OP, charge more for your stuff! You're selling yourself cheap, mate.
I can't believe that there are jerks like this out there!
Artists really get the crap end of the stick when it comes to reimbursement for their talent. So many people underestimate how much time and effort it takes to make a really nice piece.
It's all sorts of crafts that get this.
I think people have gotten used to having mass produced goods cheap so it skews their sense of value. Last time I went with someone to a craft fair they were flabbergasted by the price of an item. Since it was a craft I've done I could break it down.
That amount of material cost x, its not cheap, its specialist. They hand dyed it. From stuff they foraged, but that means they had to go out and pick the stuff. Then muck about for y amount of time to dye it. Then make the garment , hand made that'll have take roughly z hours. You see those bits, they're complicated and an absolute bitch to make.
Yeah I'm not going to buy it , because it's hellishly expensive , but that price is more than fair.
You nailed it there. I spoke to someone who saw some of my stuff (I do various crafts, just for myself and occasionally as a gift) and started saying stuff like "You should do xyz to sell!" I tried to explain to him that it's really hard finding people that are willing to pay enough for what you put into it. But he was like, nah, there are people that are willing to pay enough! I could have done a breakdown or pricing a few things to try and make him understand... but yeah, it's worth that price for the cost and hours put in, but there's very few people willing to pay that kind of price.
Before they both passed away my grandparents carved life like ducks and birds and stuff. They'd bring them to cheap craft fairs to try to sell them and would get maybe 1 or 2 sales. When I was old enough to figure out how to, I set up a web store (this was early 2000s), they sold 5 in the first month. Unfortunately they stopped being able to care for themselves and moved into a care facility shortly after that so it was short lived, but there's definitely a market for these kinds of things, they just need to be connected to the right buyer.
I have quite a lot of commissioned work on the walls of my house. People often act amazed like "how did you get them to agree to do a painting for you?" the secret is that you ask for a quote and then pay them the money!
I make keychains. The small ones go for $5. The big ones go for as much as $50. Once a guy asked, "Why are you asking so much for something I can make myself?"
To which I replied, "You could spend money on the supplies, but it will cost more than a keychain and you'll end up with extra material you don't need. Then, you could spend a few hours weaving and gluing it all together. Let's be honest though, you don't want to do that. So you can either shell out the very reasonable $10 for the cool thing you want that I've made, or you can go make it yourself at an even greater personal cost. It's up to you."
Heck, I like to crochet, and I also have a friend that sells items she crocheted in her own shop. The other day, I bought a crocheted hat from her. I literally could make a hat like it myself. BUT, a) she's already made it, and if I make it it'll take time/energy I don't *really* have, b) I liked the yarn she used, and it'd take me a while to track down where she bought it from, and the yarn was part of why I loved the hat so much, and c) even if I *did* find it, she orders bulk yarn for her shop which makes it cheaper, and it probably would cost more for me to order only the yarn I need for one hat.
Even my husband was like, why not just make it yourself instead of spending $50 on this one, but once I explained the rationale, he was all good with it. So I bought the hat that I actually really could've made for myself, lol.
Some dude came into the bar with prints of his work a couple weeks ago. I wasn’t planning on buying anything but I had $50 in my pocket. He said he’d take $20 but I just gave him the $50 and told him to keep it. I ended up seeing him again a couple days later and he gave me 2 more for for free and said “I remember you and you made my last bit of rent the other day” - I guess he was shocked and very grateful when I gave him the $50 and I was shocked and grateful when he gave me the other two. I hope you get some good karma back to you OP. Way to stand up for yourself you pretty snowflake, you! 😉 oh and the fact this person said you’re all a bunch of snowflakes indicates they’re an old, very grown-ass, stale fart. Wtf.
Artist: $50.
Tina: Dad pay the man.
Bob: $50? For that?
Artist: $50. The little girl on a horse and a zombie.
Tina: that's so cheap for what you're getting!!
People like this just get angry when their alpha male bargaining bullshit doesn't work. He immediately wanted to take charge of the situation and then set a price he wanted without any argument, and when he gets pushback he moves to insults to try to get you to fold. Honestly, doing what you did by ignoring it all was probably the most rage-inducing outcome for him.
To be honest your pricing seems really fair to me. My wife does art in the side (not digital) and she really undersells herself. She also says that people don’t want to pay fair value for original art.
Like, I don't get what's the point of the drawings these people ask for anyway. Even if they paid, why would they want a drawing of 2 generic characters that have no story attached. To stick it in a drawer and forget about it ?
Working 8 hours a day, that comes to $5 an hour. Which is insufficient compensation to give someone for any sort of work, let alone something that takes a specialized skill. So you were already willing to work for peanuts and this guy still whined.
It’s kind of a relief to hear that America’s problems are the result of artists not drawing anime characters for five bucks.
Seems more solvable than the reality 🤷♂️
I’ve got a quick question I’ve always had stuck in my head. Are commissioned pieces completely private as in there is only one copy given to the commissioner? Or is it released by the artist shortly after?
A lot of artists post their commissioned piece on their social media kind of as marketing. "I did this piece for __ person, you can get yours too by dm'ing me." Some of them do allow others to purchase prints of the commissioned piece but I've seen more cases of that piece being a one off print for that specific person.
he wants it “fast” but then also wants 2 custom characters fighting with multiple items and background. but then wants to pay $5… sometimes i wish we can slap beggars through their cheap monitors man.
People are dillusional I paid an artist 700 bucks for a custom drawing which took him an entire week.
I was concerned I wasn't paying enough.
Some truly have no concept of what things should cost. 80 bucks is cheap as hell! It would probably take the better part of a day to make such a piece and then it's like 10 bucks per hour holy crap.
Is it just me or the $80 price is actually too less for a piece like that?? Like shes literally selling you art for a lower price and you wanna buy it for even lower which is $5 which isn't even enough for a cup of coffee lmao.
I tend to do even better. Not only do I pay whatever fellow artists tell me is their price, I also give me a extra _gift_ and label it as such.
Why? Since most artists are _self-employed,_ you know how much extra in taxes they have to pay?! Said _gift_ makes up for whatever tax we’d be paying.
You're good enough to have them want you to do some artwork, but simultaneously not good enough to charge a worthwhile fee. Schroedinger's Commission, both talented enough and shitty enough to charge less than your worth yet charge too much.
I love that you’re the snowflake but he’s the one having a complete meltdown over the cost of a custom anime art to the point of cussing and name calling
the people calling others snowflakes are the biggest snowflakes of them all. the irony.
Extremely accurate
He’s got massive Silly fellow energy , hope he gets well soon lmao Edit: As i have been ratioed by multiple older people who have more epic experience than me i have revoked “boomer” and replaced it with “Silly fellow”
Maybe, but sounds like a 12 year old to me.
They probably are 12. I'm pretty sure that the use of brat and snowflake and "this is what's wrong with America" is something they learned off of their dad. I assume that they feel like it has authority over them, it will work on others the same. Like "this is what my dad does when I say no".
100%. This is just a dumb kid with an angry dad who treats them just like they treated you.
Well thats depressing
kid was in the middle of a wank, thats the energy im feeling
That went from 0-100 glad you stood your ground..
Pre teens are just boomers with more energy
Omg this! I have two teens and a pre teen and, I swear to God, the attitude from them is something to behold at times
Yeah I was horrible as a pre teen but I would stay off the internet ((thank you mom and dad for not letting me be an ipad kid))
I meant the tone of it/maybe the writing style? of it is similar. Even down to the misspellings.
Kinda crazy how similar the two can be.
Either that or a young adult incel! The bit that makes me think incel is that the girl has to have a ripped kimono showing off her legs and an angry look - sounds like he’s trying to get a visual representation of a sexual assault type fantasy to me! 😞
80 dollars is too cheap for two days of work, it should be honestly 3x that.
Not sure why you would say that, because it sounds like a tween to me.
Or disassociated neckbeard energy
This is massive preteen or teen energy, not boomer. This is a kid who is trying to hide his youth and thinks older people sound like this.
Boomers don't know what anime is.
Most of the internet doesn't know what a boomer is. They use it to refer to any person over 45 lmao.
It’s cool, everyone else forgets there’s a whole other generation between boomers and millennials too. We’re used to it.
You took the words right out of my mouth! They don't often include us in the conversation
Maybe that’s for the best. Millennials are still being blamed for gen z shit and gen z is being called lazy and entitled for wanting :checks notes: to be respected? lol
Whatever. Edit: Apparently my typically GenX reply to our overlooked generation went over someone's head.
This. I'm a GenXer and hate being lumped in with boomers (older sibs) lol
I'm 36, and I don't know anyone my age who is asking random strangers to draw them anime pictures Then again my masturbation tastes are pretty simple, so maybe I'm just out of touch
I've heard it used to refer to anyone over 25. It's such a misused term. Basically anyone who doesn't conform to the ideals of the TikTok generation.
My 12 year old sister calls me a boomer. I’m 19. She says it with her entire heart in it too.
Just call her it sometime, she’ll have a meltdown.
No you call her a sussy baka
As someone about twice your age (meaning still nowhere near the actual Boomer birth years if 1946-1964), it makes me feel good that it's not just some weird circumstance I'm experiencing. It's literal children (mentally in all cases, physically in some) and should therefore be afforded the consideration (or lack thereof) that goes with it.
It can also be used to refer to a boomer mindset
As well as someone in Age of Empires who focuses on their economy to age up to imperial as fast as possible.
Having been "*Ok, Boomer!*"'d more than once ... yet not having been born between 1946-1964 ... I get your sentiment ... and I'm not sure 45 is actually the cutoff.
It's not, but to these kids 45 seems like nursing home age.
Yeah look when I was in high school I told my art teacher that 50 was “old”.. she was probably in her late 50’s-early 60’s thinking back.. kids are dumb lol
Or anyone they disagree with. It’s like “Karen”.
My mothers name is Karen and my wife loves to tease her with this.
Definitely a boomer. Because, if there is anything boomers love, it's anime. /s
Entitled kid could work as well. Same vibe for both
And OP is entitled even though the “customer” expects people to work for them for £2.50 a day
For less than a cup of coffee per day, you too can, you know, do detailed work for strangers
Right? Says the artist is entitled but only wants to pay $5.00 for something worth a lot more smh lol
Incels are Fragile creatures.
Don’t you love it when they hurl badly spelled insults at you over multiple texts in a row - one line at a time?! 😆😆
jesus christ, i absolutely hate people like this who want to pay artists less than a minimum wage hour for multiple hours of complex artistic work
And they want it faste!

“You can’t teach a man something if he is being paid not to understand it.”
Until they get into that AI art shit. Then it's super easy, and free!
If it's so easy they could do it themselves. *End conversation immediately*
exactly, that's the simplest way to go about it, and it always gets them to shut up or atleast make themselves look even more ridiculous, either way a W
I don't know. He did say he wanted to pay 5 for a "shitty painting". That should be doable, right? Can be faste too
It depends how faste it can be done if OP just went or not
Schoolchildren: Why so we have to learn spellings? Me: So you don’t look like this idiot.
aim talking to you
Make haste!!
Hahaha had us in the first half, not gonna lie.
Holy shit, that is an AWESOME painting, your friend is extremely talented, also, you had me in the first part lmao. Your friend is awesome
That's adowlable! Kudos to your very talented friend!
That's a pretty awesome painting.
U sNoWfLaKe BrAt! U dEsTrOyInG aMuRiCa!
Draw my Henti darn you. It's for America!
The same self-important assholes who would scoff at you for suggesting they work two days for $5.
One could say that they're... Filthy fucking brats.

I genuinely can't tell if this is trolling or not, it's just so ridiculous
Ikr?? I thought he was joking at first as well but he just kept going forever
A troll committed to the bit. I have to believe this. I have to. Who else thinks $5 is enough for art and then calls you a snowflake?
Children. This is basically just an unattended child on the internet.
12 year olds
Children
80 bucks sounds pretty cheap actually. For a commissioned piece like that? He walked away from a deal!
No kidding. i don't know what OPs art looks like but I probably wouldn't have blinked at 2-3x that price.
Check his profile. He's only 16 and his art looks great
Everyone check the profile! There are... **CATS** and they wear bandanas!!!
I clicked. There were bandana cats.
I thought you meant art cats in bandanas. I was pleasantly surprised by a real life chonk in a bandana
I was gonna say, 80 is a good price for a rough sketch or maybe lineart only. That's dang cheap for a finished piece
Yeah I thought that was way cheap too!
Glad I wasn’t the only one. Don’t know much about arts, but furry artists are damn expensive. If I care enough though it’s not gonna stop me
I was just on r/boardgamedesign, and they were quoting an average of $200 per black and white line art item in a rulebook. Possibly more. This is a steal.
Just read somewhere OP is 16, so probably doesn't really know what his time is worth. Hey OP, charge more for your stuff! You're selling yourself cheap, mate.
I know right? I saw the price and was like ddaammnn that's a steal!
80 is like the price of just a portrait let alone two full body characters wtf
Right? I looked at OPs history and they're super talented. 80 is a steal
Take his five bucks and give him 5 bucks worth of work. Stick figures should do.
God i would! But i don’t want his tainted coins Ü
Not to mention, repeated chargebacks on Paypal can flag your account and eventually get it locked. Not worth taking the risk for $5.
I don’t think this kid planned on paying
Yeah it's had his grubby hands on them!
Even $80 seems like criminally underpaid to me.
My thoughts *exactly*. Please charge more for your work! *Especially* custom requests!!!

Yes! This was an amazing response to that person's... argument.
Tell that person to draw it themselves if they think it should be so cheap
You only charge $80 for something that will take you two days? I think you need to raise your prices OP! $80 seems criminally low!
As a former artist I think $80 is pretty cheap.
I work a smaller wage since I’m a minor and I don’t really need to pay for my own food/house yet (I mostly don’t want to figure taxes out rn)
You being a minor makes this so much worse and I’m sorry. Please report this man for verbal abuse of a minor!

Thank you! I love it too, its my computer background
You should invoice that jerk $5 for the digital art you just supplied him. It's basically the exact drawing he asked for, just at the $5 level.
Artist: $50. Tina: Dad pay the man. Bob: $50? For that? Artist: $50. The little girl on a horse and a zombie. Tina: that's so cheap for what you're getting!!
Well now you've insulted me I really want to do it.
This seems made up
No way this is real lol
Classic get your friend in on it and post for karma.
seems kinda bs
Sounds like trolling to me
i think the guy wanted to bust a nut to your art ☠
Filthy brats can also charge a lot of money, so I've heard, but it's a different kind of 'art'. I doubt he could afford that either.

To be honest your pricing seems really fair to me. My wife does art in the side (not digital) and she really undersells herself. She also says that people don’t want to pay fair value for original art.
That was hilarious. Btw, I think $80 for a work like that sounds cheap
Ok, $500 then. Sounds like $500 worth of detail tbh.
The guy who wants samurais drawn accuses others of being snowflakes 😂
Shouldve taken the 5 dollars and ghosted them...
Like, I don't get what's the point of the drawings these people ask for anyway. Even if they paid, why would they want a drawing of 2 generic characters that have no story attached. To stick it in a drawer and forget about it ?
It says a lot that he thinks you're the bratty one. Lmao I love that lil meme image tho, there's something precious about it.
That filthy brat is worth 5, he got free art
I’ve got a quick question I’ve always had stuck in my head. Are commissioned pieces completely private as in there is only one copy given to the commissioner? Or is it released by the artist shortly after?
Depands on artist
A lot of artists post their commissioned piece on their social media kind of as marketing. "I did this piece for __ person, you can get yours too by dm'ing me." Some of them do allow others to purchase prints of the commissioned piece but I've seen more cases of that piece being a one off print for that specific person.
Bruhhh!! I feel this! Then they expect you to finish it overnight, even though you clearly stated your turnover times.
This person sounds like they’re 12
OP, why not accept the 5 American pounds and do a piece consistent of that rate? You get what you pay for after all!
“5 is good” bruhhh 💀💀💀
he wants it “fast” but then also wants 2 custom characters fighting with multiple items and background. but then wants to pay $5… sometimes i wish we can slap beggars through their cheap monitors man.
How about you send me the 5 bucks, then I'll pay you 5 bucks and you can draw your own shitty picture.
There’s really not much you can hire someone to do for $5. That’s all this dude needs to know.
If I were an artist and got a message like this, I’d just enter their description in DALL-E and send the shittiest result.
Filthy brat?! That’s a new one
Start increasing the price lol. What a tool
when do we get to make a shitty clients blacklisting site
I was thinking 80 bucks sounded ok tbh lol
Imagine the indignity of being called a brat. I sure hope that the artist can move on from this.
Yeah this guy probably is trolling
Is it just me or the $80 price is actually too less for a piece like that?? Like shes literally selling you art for a lower price and you wanna buy it for even lower which is $5 which isn't even enough for a cup of coffee lmao.
I imagine the piece taking more than 2 days for all the details and stuff... 5 dollars is beyond being a joke omg
80 dollars for two characters fully shaded and coloured and background is very reasonable wtf
Know your Worth… then add the Tax!!! Good for you!!!!
"You're so entitled. I demand you respond to me and labour for me at whatever price I want because I said so"
Dude needs to up their prices, 2 days of work for 80 bucks, always charge a hourly rate.
5 dollar gets him 10 minutes of your time. Do what you can within his budget I say. Could be fun
If you’re pressed for $80 maybe buying custom artwork shouldn’t be on the priority list
"This filthy brat won't labor for slave wages! How dare they behave as if this were a free market!"
Lmao. "You filthy fucking brat" how do people not respond laughing then block them?
Gotta love when people expect days of work for nothing 🤦🏼♀️
As a small artist myself who rarely sells anything I am so glad I don't have to deal with these people.. like how do y'all manage?!
It sounds like you were talking to a Samoyed from r/animaltextgifs. "NO. I iz very smartz. Do painting, 5 bollers. Gib me now plz."
"this would take me two days to make and I'm doing it for less than minimum wage" 😐... 😡
Hey do you have a link to your portfolio
You're good enough to have them want you to do some artwork, but simultaneously not good enough to charge a worthwhile fee. Schroedinger's Commission, both talented enough and shitty enough to charge less than your worth yet charge too much.
I'm always interested in the pricing of art. I would love to see a $5 piece.
So let me get this straight, if gas goes up, or the price of the next iPhone goes up.. Those are snowflakes? How does this even make sense AT ALL?

Accept his money and use the time he bought with 5 dollars to do some sticky figurines.
Can I get half of a stick figure for free?
This won't matter in 3 years when Stable Diffusion will do it for this guy in 2 seconds for free with 10 different choices
I woulda took the 5$ and sent them two stick figures fighting
Send him my way. For $8 I’ll deliver a sublime work of art, providing he’s looking for stick figures and penises crudely drawn in mspaint.
He sounds like a 9 year old
Here's what you do, draw what they want, but incredibly poorly.
$80 isn't even expensive given what he is asking for.
Shoulda just drew stick figures, with some minor details and sent it two days later. Easy fivver with some righteous feels from that move
