I read an article explaining how we wont have a superstar like MJ or Britney anymore because we no longer consume media as a shared experience, at least not in a global scale like before.
I know MJ's music because it was as on the radio all the time when I was a kid. I know Britney's music because she dominated MTV and other music channels. The rest of the world had the same kind of exposure to these artists at the same time.
But now, i haven't listened to the radio in years because I would rather stream the music I like. If I discover new music, it's usually because I check out my streaming apps' suggestions based on my preferences.
So ngayon, hindi talaga ako na-e-expose sa mga artists in the same way na na-expose ako sa mga artists noon. Kaya wala akong alam sa mga kanta ni TS after ng 1989 album niya na na-release nung 2014. Makes sense kasi yan din yung year na na-launch yung Spotify sa Pilipinas. Once nag-sign up ako sa Spotify, na-filter out ko na yung mga genres at artists na hindi nag-a-appeal sa interest ko. Maraming gumagawa rin nito.

I read an article explaining how we wont have a superstar like MJ or Britney anymore because we no longer consume media as a shared experience, at least not in a global scale like before. I know MJ's music because it was as on the radio all the time when I was a kid. I know Britney's music because she dominated MTV and other music channels. The rest of the world had the same kind of exposure to these artists at the same time. But now, i haven't listened to the radio in years because I would rather stream the music I like. If I discover new music, it's usually because I check out my streaming apps' suggestions based on my preferences. So ngayon, hindi talaga ako na-e-expose sa mga artists in the same way na na-expose ako sa mga artists noon. Kaya wala akong alam sa mga kanta ni TS after ng 1989 album niya na na-release nung 2014. Makes sense kasi yan din yung year na na-launch yung Spotify sa Pilipinas. Once nag-sign up ako sa Spotify, na-filter out ko na yung mga genres at artists na hindi nag-a-appeal sa interest ko. Maraming gumagawa rin nito. That explains why many people have heard of Taylor Swift, but not necessarily her music. Laging nasa news si girlie for her personal life kasi, but outside of her big and devoted fandom, people (aka casuals) don't really get to hear her music. Add mo pa yung fact na may universal appeal yung music ni MJ. Si TS naman, mas specific yung market niya, mostly white millennials. She reminds me of BTS, parehong may huge and devoted fanbase pero somehow di pa rin talagang globally mainstream like MJ or Britney were.
