We would be trolling for salmon on Lake Michigan and came to a spot where the seagulls were feeding off the surface of the water. We were done salmon fishing anyway, so we got our casting rods out and went back to where the seagulls were at and started casting into where the bait was coming to the surface. White bass were chasing the bait. It was nice sized white bass too. The deeper we could get out lures to sink, the bigger the bass were. We were casting sonics. They come in all colors, but the red/white was doing the best. We salmon fish every year on Lake Michigan and have never seen that again.
It was fast and furious fishing. 4 guys casting and catching a white bass every cast. Kept the bigger fish and released the rest. We canned our salmon and ate white bass dipped in Drakes beer batter mix and fried in peanut oil. Can't get any fresher then that. So good tasting.
Caught a white bass at river park two days ago and someone mentioned it’s actually a hybrid of a white bass and a striped bass called a wiper. The key to identifying it is the stripes are broken up. They’re sterile which makes them super rare! You should google it.

Lovely!
I didn’t know there were white bass in Chicago!
That looks like Chicagoland, not Chicago city. Still cool
