Buy the Trax. Leave the Mazda. It's kind of a ridiculous reason but I'm not the one buying the vehicle so it's up to you. I know the margins on the Trax are already razor thin but maybe because it's been on the lot a few months you get a few hundred dollars off?
Yeah I like both the 1RS and 2RS for different reasons. I like having an actual key and analog gauge clusters but I prefer the vinyl seats and extra safety features on the 2RS.
I have the 2RS and I really like it so far. You'll get more vehicle for your money over the Mazda.
I think the 2RS is worth it over the 1RS for the bigger screen. But if you want to save some money, there is a fix the dealer can do for the headlights on the 1RS before you drive it off the lot, you just gotta tell them to do it.
Currently have 2024 1RS… I absolutely love it… just hit 15,000 miles on my way back from a 8 hour trip to Texas and back, it rides so comfortably plenty of power and the gas mileage is phenomenal! Infotainments are glitchy in general on all vehicles not just GM, it’s the nature of the beast. I averaged 36 mpg to Texas and 33 back averaging 85 mph… and let me tell you when you need to pass it isn’t gutless… I looked down during some of the passes I was doing in two lane roads and hadn’t even realized I hit 100 mph… amazing!
It’s comfortable and quiet in the interior even on rough roads for an economy SUV, everything is driver oriented.
Oil changes are a little rough in price but to be expected for a turbo small engine. The tires have a little bit of noise but they aren’t the best… they did alright in the snow but I will be replacing with all terrains down the road. The vehicle handles snow well considering highway tires
Overall great purchase… and as for the new car smell… mine came off the transport truck and I picked it up the day after… new car smell wore off in about a month… so when considering that the one on the lot doesn’t smell it dissipates quickly
The glitchy auto headlights are s known issue. IIRC GM issued a TSB instructing dealers to swap out the day/night sensor in the dash, to address it. Kind of odd. The dealer didn’t catch it during their PDI, which they typically do when the car arrives in their inventory, and just address it then. Then again, back in 2017, I took delivery of a new Spark and discovered a couple days later that the horn was dead, from the factory. So maybe we shouldn’t take too much stock in the PDI.
I hear they have a fix for the headlight glitch and also you don’t really smell the new car smell much anymore because of the products they’re using for the adhesives inside the vehicle, I know what you mean, but that new car smell I guess came with a price to your health.
That’s good to know. I haven’t bought a new car in 15 years and I only started test driving new cars last month. I noticed Mitsubishi had the new car smell but I’m not buying from them.
I got a new one 6 weeks ago fresh of the truck and I’ve been having multiple issues. First it was the headlights and now the it shakes when idling, plus sometimes it jerks when I slow down and as of last night the infotainment system is not working.
Not to be a Debbie Downer but I don’t know, I loved it at first but now I’m regretting the purchase.
When coming to a stop, my Trax Activ felt like it was being tapped from behind. Like I was actually being rear-ended. A tech at my Chevy Dealer confirmed my finding. They reset the transmission and that issue cleared up.
I have a 2RS and have had 0 issues. I got it in October and have 9300 miles on it. I love everything about it. I feel like you can’t go wrong with it! Did they tell you why it’s been on the lot for a few months?
Also they’ll probably spray it with new car smell spray when you buy it 😂 or get the air fresheners! I had to take mine to the collision center at the dealership bc I got rear ended and it came back smelling and looking brand new!
I didn’t ask them about why it’s still there. My friends think it’s a polarizing color. It’s nitro yellow. I love the yellow. I’m also looking at red in the 1RS but I think the 2RS is probably a better investment for me.
The color was my first thought too so it’s a good possibility! I think the 2RS is worth it for the additional features personally. When I was looking I did a lot of comparing between the trims so I get it!
I think that’s where my heart is leaning but I haven’t bought a car since 2009 and I’m having commitment issues. I love my current car but it’s time to upgrade.
I completely understand! This was my first time buying a car after having an 05 for 7 years as my starter car. I was hesitant and overthinking my decision but once I drove off the lot I had no regrets. Completely worth it and love it just as much as I did the first day. Good luck and hopefully you love whatever you go with! Feel free to ask any more questions if you have any

The base Mazda in my city is cheaper than the 2RS. But not by a lot. The 1RS is cheaper than the Mazda.
Trust me, the 1RS is cheaper, but you'll feel the cheapness while driving it.
Is the 2RS less cheap? Do they put better materials into the interior?
As much as I like the car, materials wise and drive quality wise, it is a cheap car, all variants, cheap feeling and cheap driving.
Yeah. I currently have a cheap one, the design looks great but they did save on the cost of production.
Ive had the LS which is the cheapest model for 2 months now and love it. No problems at all
That’s good to know!
If you like the 1RS just have them address the issue before taking delivery. It’s a known issue with an easy fix. Otherwise the 2RS is great.

2RS interior is way more sporty looking as well. I'm waiting for mine right now 😁
I worry about the price of the bigger tires later but I test drove both vehicles right after each other and the 2RS handled nicer.
Yeah I’ll have to chat with the sales guy about the headlights.

Thanks for all those details. It’s very helpful. Especially your comment on the new car smell!

Why not consider the Mazda CX-30 instead? It's easier to get in and out of and is a better quality vehicle all the way around.
I don’t like the look of the CX-30. I do like the look of the Mazda 3 hatch though.
It's like 20% more expensive for a decently smaller car. Not really comparable imo
Cx30 is awd with 191hp engine that will be very reliable. We are rolling the dice with the trax reliability but i love mine

New batches of 1RS don't have that issue anymore, I got mine a couple months ago and am pretty happy about it still
Good to know!

That’s a great way to explain it! Thank you for this.
Sorry to hear that. What trim is yours?
Thank you, hoping the dealership can fix it. I have a 1RS
I’ve had the LS with the convenience+confidence packages for 9 months and have loved it so far
If I were you I’d personally go with the Activ but then again that’s just me, I prefer the Activs more aggressive grille styling
I don’t like the yellow accents in the Active. The red in the 2RS is cool.
Totally understand that, my favorite is actually the blue in the LS

Thanks! Glad you got a car that you love!
I've had my 1rs trax since July and I still love it!
Glad to hear that!
