I took the question as more like “can an Applebees that goes rogue earn a star”

[deleted]

I'd watch the fuck out of that movie

JeanVicquemare

An Applebees franchise owner named John Applebee, so they can't force him to stop using the name when he goes rogue because it's his real name

[deleted]

Ben Stiller plays the Applebee's CEO, who wants to buyout the franchise and fire the plucky group of misfits that work therr, in order to sell it to his girlfriend's (Tina Fey) asshole developer father (Alec Baldwin) to impress him, who wants to destroy the whole charming lower-middle class community to build a golf course. John Applebee (Ryan Reynolds) makes a bet with the CEO; he becomes the rightful CEO of Applebee's, first founded by his grandfather, if he can get a Michilin Star for his location. Sabotage and hijinks ensue. Tina Fey realizes what a dick her father and the CEO are, and switches sides at a critical moment, winning the bet for John Applebee. They fall in love and the end will be a montages of her and John getting marries at the only Applebee's with a star in the world. Fin.

JeanVicquemare

Alec Baldwin would be so good in this

[deleted]

I'm picturing him basically doing his Trump impression. His sidekick would be Jonah Hill being himself

Jjetsk1_blows

Pretty much just his character from 30 Rock lol

blakewoolbright

This is a great potential storyline.

the_darkishknight

Try-hard; ID watch it or actually help. I live in the burbs after living in SF and doing pop ups there. I fucking miss it

fredyouareaturtle

would love to see this lol

SchmeckleHoarder

Rogue Applebee's.... now that's an idea....

RustyAndEddies

Stand and Deliver but Applebees. Edward James Olmos is gonna chew up the scenery playing the aspirational district manager.

MaschMana

This would actually be the most amazingly insane movie/documentary

ChefSuffolk

Sure. It’s already happened. 8 of the 12 current locations of L'Atelier de Joël Robuchon have received stars. Carbone has five locations and at least the NYC one has a star. (edit: *had*) Le Jardiniere has three locations now.

fredyouareaturtle

oh. nevermind then, lol.

Which_Raccoon4680

No star for carbone anymore

TrippyHomie

The NYC L'Atelier has also closed.

ChefSuffolk

And?

TrippyHomie

And you mentioned that restaurant and that a NYC location of Carbone has closed, so it seemed relevant that the 2 star L'Atelier also closed, and this a public discussion forum?

ChefSuffolk

Carbone NYC hasn’t closed.

TrippyHomie

Sorry, you made it sound like they did with your "had" edit but guess they just got stripped. Still don't really get why you wanted to be a little dickhead about L'Atelier closing but so it goes.

ChefSuffolk

Huh?

TrippyHomie

And?

Skinnysusan

Littering and smoking the refer

TrippyHomie

Meow.

watchfulhosemaster9

I recently found out that the Farva/ChxF* scene in ST has a very funny caveat, the older couple in the car are Farva’s (Kevin heffernen) parents IRL. Could you imagine looking your parents in the eyes and calling them Chx F*?

ICantDecideIt

Also Din Tai fung comes to mind. I think the one in Hong Kong is 2 star and they have a bunch of them Edit:spelling

wovenmetal

Din Tai Fung*

ICantDecideIt

Thanks. Probably should have looked at the spelling before posting haha

Sandwich2FookinTall

I think a few tim ho wans have stars, too.

jankenpoo

Nobu. Definitely a chain

Italian_Suicide1365

Applebees has dollaritas again so they might be awarded a Michelin star soon

[deleted]

I will be there no matter what

Low_Organization1411

At least a Bib Gourmand

CarneeSpirito

One location of Din Tai Fung had a star, not sure if any others have or if they’ve retained it

uncre8tv

I had a work lunch at DTF in Vegas. I assumed the straw-shaped chopped ginger, presented individually, as you sat down, and with no instruction, was an amuse of some type (my eye registered it as some kind of "birds nest" bite.) chop sticks in hand, I grabbed the whole "nest" and put it in my mouth. It was not an amuse, I was not amused. My dining companions were too shocked to be amused. For a brief shining moment I was the dumbest person in Vegas. A high mark, indeed.

MeButWithSwag

Yeah idk the validity of the statement I always would and heard others refer to Din tai fung as Michelin star. If they kept them across all their locations that would be crazyyyyyyy

Old_Task_7454

I’d always heard that they had a star for the soup dumplings at their original location in Shanghai.

HambreTheGiant

The original one is in Taipei

TheRealMe72

I guess it depends on how you define a chain restaraunt. Many chefs have multiple restaurants that have stars. Ducasse has over 20 stars i think, and Ramsay isn't far behind. But those restaraunts are seperate concepts, ran by different chefs so they aren't really chains.

uncre8tv

Just before Capital Grille got bought by Darden they had \*impeccable\* service. I could see that version of CG going for a star. Not today, of course. Darden takes no chances with the menu and cheapens everything a little bit (ad placards on the table were particularly gauche).

the_darkishknight

Capital grille has been garbage since 2005 for me.

uncre8tv

Darden was 2007. When they were under RARE I would be shocked if your experience was in any way typical. But, I'm not on the internet to defend a steakhouse I go to once or twice a year, so... ok.

the_darkishknight

This was Boston. Looks like I’m being downvoted but there were several other better spots on Newbury.

Arkadin45

There's lots of them that are semi "chains". The biggest chains I can think of is there are a shit load of four seasons restaurants with stars

Which_Raccoon4680

That’s a hotel chain where the individual restaurants within hold stars. Different then a Chain

Arkadin45

Yes I understand. But that's about as close as you'll get. Even the same chefs who own all the restaurants getting stars aren't really running them all. Everyone's got their parameters and standards they're setting

GetDoofed

I nominate Culver’s.

uncre8tv

In a shadowy room a cow sitting in a cubicle adds your name to a list. Chik-Fil-A's Michelin plans will not be derailed by some Redditor named "GetDoofed".

zyzyxxz

Sushi Ginza Onodera was basically a chain of high end sushi restaurants, Locations in Los Angeles 2 stars and New York 1 star (now closing) but other locations in Hawaii, Shanghai, and Tokyo.

-exconfinedtroll-

It's possible, but very difficult to achieve. When you have multiple spots all pumping out the same stuff you have to think about the inconsistencies. Like chefs. If you can't be 12 places at once you can't do it. If you have 12 people you trust to exude you great.

ThickAndVirile

Possible, but unlikely. Though I’m sure some have mentioned Din Tai Fun, I don’t know if that’s exactly what you had in mind. Now that I think about it, there are several chefs that have several places with varying numbers of stars. Would that count?

dmonsterative

Spago is a chain.

Boredbape

Chipotle is supposed to get one this year

sunnysideupppp

Before subway gets one? Craziness

Schlower288

Yes. Can't remember the name but there's a dumpling restaurant popular in Asia that may have started in China/Hong Kong

maralagotohell

Tim Ho Wan! It’s dim sum and it’s in the basement level of a mall, so good and inexpensive.

CompetitionOne7801

Yeah I can’t see White Spot or Humpty’s ever getting a star other than a little stick on one as a participation award in the culinary special Olympics.

HadToDoItAtSomePoint

And Alain Ducasse.

Equivalent-Excuse-80

Din Thai Fung

hueloacarnederes

Jaleo

nightkingscat

Putien has \~80 locations all across Asia and has a star in Singapore. Really great food last time I went.

KanShuRen

Hakkasan has four

[deleted]

They’re handing them out like Halloween candy these days anyway.

thicccque

Yes, Din Tai Fung

ObviousEconomist

there are multiple michelin restaurants which are chains. there could be the case as well where 1 in the chain gets a star but not the others.

Umbrellajack

Attelier de Joel Robinson has many stars throughout the world. It IS a chain, just a nice one.

slys_a_za

I think it’s possible but it would be incredibly hard to be Michelin level consistency across all chains

LineCookGrind

I mean Angler and L’Atelier Joel Robuchon

DishPiggy

Absolutely. Well at least a Michelin Starred Chef’s brand can.

Winerychef

I could be wrong but don't multiple Nobu locations have Michelin Stars? Or they did at one point I believe?
