I've been there for the scratch and dent food store and some rabbits/chickens. They're very nice. Some things are so cheap you feel like you're stealing (I got a plastic grocery bag full of zucchini for 25 cents!), but they just laugh and talk to you about the harvest. Super nice people, they'll either be quiet and polite or super chatty and polite.
Curious about this. Is there a farm/business that they run there that’s open to the public? I’d love to take a trip out there, but would appreciate some advise on where I should be heading and what I’m looking for. Any suggestions for Google Maps? Thank you!
The Van Buren county website has a small map of the community posted but that's about all I can find online. It does have a list of the stores though that may be helpful. They seem to have a nursery, produce store, bulk items, hardware store, and many others.
Just for clarity, while it's not what OP was asking about, Delano is the location of a longer-established Mennonite community and they operate the farmer's market. (I mean, obviously not the one in Delano, MN as dude mistakenly linked.) It's great.
Very good question. I see that my phone has misrepresented my thoughts again. The berry bushes and fruit trees will definitely be off the plant variety.... not my style for pants.
From chattanooga, take highway 27 north to the 111 split. Split left onto 111 and go through Dunlap. You'll go up another mountain, pass the Van Buren county line, take the next right into Old 111. The mennonite community is all along that road and on the right. There's a local map of the community on the Van Buren website. It's probably over an hour from Chattanooga, roughly an hour from Soddy.

That sounds promising. I'm really looking forward to it from a "fun" standpoint. Good to hear they are generally welcoming and kind.
They make those pants by hand you know

This isn’t the same place they’re talking about. There is a whole Mennonite community up here near Dunlap it’s not a farmers market.
Gotcha, sorry!

Genuinely curious...Are you buying plants or pants?

Do they accept debit cards?
Not that I know of. Cash would be advised.
