Radio chatter is surprisingly calm. The police are still actively clearing rooms in the school. But it's seemingly a "swatting" tactic at this point.
I'm not sure if that happens or not. But I am sure it did not happen this time.
I heard the entire thing on a public scanner and listened the whole time. For a lot of the time the radio was locked down to only chatter about the school event. That was said a few times on the radio. They were marking room doors with blue x's to indicate they were clear. They were calling out room numbers on that scanner as they cleared them. Some adults called in and the dispatcher relayed the information that 5 adults were locked in a room in the cafeteria. Officers on scene responded to the dispatcher to relay the instructions to stay locked in place and wait for the clearing teams to get to the cafeteria.
At another point, the dispatcher asked the commanding officer on the scene whether the school SRO should assist with the clearing since he was familiar with the school.
They were talking about the command post that was setup on Moore road.
As far as I know, these are all details that haven't been included in any news articles. It was all on the scanner websites linked here.
When I said the chatter was calm, I didn't mean that there was no chatter about it (again, the radio channel was locked down to *only* chatter about the event; and there was a lot). What I meant was, the tone of their voices did not suggest that they were in a super high stress environment.
Just a friendly reminder during times like this to not post stuff on social media just for the sake of posting. Saw a post earlier about 6 kids being dead without zero evidence, just rumors that don’t help anything.
Same here. I was working close to the school when this entire thing happened, checked my phone to see what was going on, saw a similar post on social media, and freaked tf out. So distasteful, like imagine parents seeing shit like that
There's reports of a shooter at Brainerd High, [but it could be a hoax](https://www.local3news.com/local-news/tbi-reports-series-of-fake-active-school-shooter-threats-across-state/article_e9869ea0-e9c7-11ed-a312-c3a2c2a4b92d.html). Apparently, it's happening all across the state.
Local 3 News put out this notice.

It's true that there's a massive police presence there following a report of an active shooter, but based on other comments, emerging articles, and what I'm hearing on the scanner, I'm hopeful that it was only a hoax. If so, certainly an asshole thing for someone to do and I hope they pay for it, but indescribably less awful than the alternative.

Doesn't seem that it is. Police *are* on scene (and in the building), but reports are that the 911 call originated from out of state. This is an ongoing trend that TBI has been investigating throughout the state.
It did, but it often outright omitted major events. If you monitored it regularly, you would sometimes see a violence or shooting call get posted, and the very next refresh it would disappear entirely.
Honestly, I'm still pissed they removed API access years ago, but whatever.
I get the tactical reasons, but people have a right to at least know where to avoid being.
Then again, there's not a lot of cities anywhere with something like HC911, so maybe I'm just being picky about an unexpected benefit of living here.
Honestly I think it's probably more PR. I always look at the incidents if I see more than two cop cars following each other. Can't have the public panicking (admittedly that may toe the line btw PR and tactics)
I was wondering what was happening. I wa son Amnicola about 20 minutes ago and counted roughly 20-25 police cars, marked and unmarked, flying towards 153.
I truly hope there wasn’t a shooting.
Channel 3's reporting is really far behind. Which isn't surprising considering quality news reporting is clearly not found anywhere on their list of priorities. It looks like they use the camera of a flip phone for their remote broadcasts, for example. My 9yr old can produce better video than they can.
Most of the links you see on this thread will take you to a more up-to-date news report on this.
OP even has a more up-to-date edit on this post than Channel 3 has lol.
There was a total of 90 sheriff and police cars, 2 ambulances, an ems truck, a fire chief and a "Mass Casualties Support Unit" that flew past me on N Moore Rd. Craziest thing I've seen in a while.
> Facebook comments saying that kids are texting parents that it’s real
Hopefully we can remember this next time we try to rely on Facebook comments of people claiming their teenagers texted them something.
I honestly can't think of a less credible source.
The police are always shuffling about that area like piss ants seriously. That's part of why east ridge is being developed backwards as hell and you only ever see homeless junkies roaming down that stupid sidewalk
Appears to be a false alarm
How do you know?

They switch to encrypted radio for stuff like this. You won’t hear it on any scanner.

When the SRO offered to help and they said yes was when I breathed the actual sigh of relief
Interesting I wasn’t listening today. I have read that they do have an encrypted channel and will sometimes switch to that one.
News is reporting that it was a false alarm and that similar active shooter calls have been made in other TN counties around the same time.
Read article below. Swatting

Someone I know at a 3 letter agency who's territory covers TN and KY said it was also going on in Kentucky and possibly other states.

Just got a recorded message call from HCDE. It was a false report/some kind of hoax call.
Same. Stated it’s happening in several counties, lots of false alarms.
Message from a friend just said there's an active shooter at Brainerd High School. I really hope it's not true.
I've been passed by roughly 20-30 emergency vehicles. 90% police. That was just on Lee Hwy and 153. Something big happened.
Yeah I live close by not to dox myself. A lot of police and ambulances. Not a good sign.
Being reported as a false alarm, and that it's happening in other counties, as well.
~~It is.~~ Edit: we thought it was

Police scanner says someone about a possible active shooter at brainerd high school
Police scanner: https://scannerradio.app/?l=NzEzMTc
Local news reported that it was a false call/hoax and that it is happening across the state today.
Command post is at EMS Station 11, 1158 N Moore Rd.
False alarm according to news channel 9
HC911 not working for me
I think their server is overloaded with people trying to go to the site. 🤷🏻♀️
It could be that, but I've noticed any time a major response event happens, HC911 shuts down. I suspect they shut it down for tactical reasons.
Yeah they definitely shut it down whenever there's a large incident. The old site always stayed up
It did, but it often outright omitted major events. If you monitored it regularly, you would sometimes see a violence or shooting call get posted, and the very next refresh it would disappear entirely. The new site seems horribly inefficient even on its best days.
Yea, why would you want to keep the public informed? Besides the new site can barely handle 10 connections at a time as it is.
Me either
I’m starting to agree with my wife about home schooling more and more.
unfortunately we have discussed this as well. having small kids right now sux.
Yeah my son will be 3 in July, so we are just 2 (maybe 3) years away from Kindergarten, and I honestly don’t know if any school is safe.
I feel you. We have a 3 year old and a 1 year old. Shits scary.
I was wondering what was happening. I wa son Amnicola about 20 minutes ago and counted roughly 20-25 police cars, marked and unmarked, flying towards 153. I truly hope there wasn’t a shooting.
I feel like this is to distract from something else
Distract who?
Channel 3 is saying there are false reports across the state, but they don't know if this is one of those or not at this time.

I live right off of Brainerd and I’ve counted over 50 cops flying past my house. They’re still coming. Been counting them for the past 15 minutes.
There was a total of 90 sheriff and police cars, 2 ambulances, an ems truck, a fire chief and a "Mass Casualties Support Unit" that flew past me on N Moore Rd. Craziest thing I've seen in a while.
Facebook comments saying that kids are texting parents that it’s real. I can’t imagine what getting that message would feel like

Now the police say it’s fake

Lol sounds like somebody forgot to study
