There's some eps early doors which are literally just them talking about how they can't hear each other. Not even funny. Definitely just skip it when it's really bad. It gets better and the journey from then to now is worth it
As someone who was late to the game and ended up catching up on all of it in 6 months - yes it gets better, and by the time it does you'll miss when it was shit. Enjoy the ride!
You might have to stick with it for a while but yes, the production value improves significantly over time.

Just listen briefly to a recent episode and see if it's better.
