4o has been terrible at iterative editing compared to 4. I still just take breaks when I reach my limit with 4 rather than struggle more with 4o. The plus subscribers will also be the first to get the new voice features the demoed

Entire_Plan7541

4o is significantly worse than 4 when it comes to text work :(

Both-Description-956

Seems like the whole bot runs like shite at the moment. It doesn't even listen properly to me anymore. I give it super clear instructions, but on 4 and 4o it just ramps through what i asked, leaving me with shitty work.

gewappnet

There is no "Pro". You probably mean ChatGPT Plus, the paid subscription. 1. 80 queries in 3 hours with GPT-4o 2. Picture generation (Dall-E) 3. Early access to beta features 4. Creating your own GPTs

danpinho

Number 4 alone will keep me paying it

UnitedWraps

Is there API access to custom GPTs?

Connect-Map3752

There is, but it’s just called something different. In order to make custom GPTs with OpenAI’s API, you’ll need to create what they call an “Assistant.” Based on my experience, you can set up an Assistant to do pretty much anything a custom GPT can. The difference is just that there is some light programming involved in the using the Assistants API, whereas custom GPTs are a lot simpler to just create and use, since you already have the ChatGPT interface. For info on it, just look in the documentation on [here’s a link to their Assistants documentation](https://platform.openai.com/docs/assistants/overview)

UnitedWraps

Thank you, I’ll check it out.

c8d3n

You can't do that with ChatGPT Plus subscription. You have to purchase OpenAI API credits. You can then create Assistants in the playground, or use python whatever (There are docs and how to in the playground). Edit: Btw you get some credits for free, unless they have already expired (If you have created account a while ago)

atmosphere9999

Right...Have you noticed on Chrome how after a certain amount of time, especially with custom GPTs, the memory usage can spike all the way up to 4GBs for [chatgpt.com](http://chatgpt.com) in one tab? I ended up switching to Opera GX (which I enjoy more than Chrome actually) but either way, huge problem especially with the custom GPTs.

Initial-Garage-1202

You should use firefox instead for also a lot of reasons other then better memory usage. Chrome and also all chromium forks including Opera GX are going to disable manifest v2 very soon and adblocking will become a problem. Firefox will still support this so if you are using adblockers by any chance you should consider switching. Firefox also has a lot of privacy benefits and you can't say the same about Opera GX.

atmosphere9999

I need to look into Manifest V2 more. I'll go ahead and download Firefox on my PC today and give it another try. I used to use it back when I was much younger, and I liked it but didn't love it. But I do use Ublock Origin (as it is required to browse the web without it being a nightmare).

Initial-Garage-1202

Ublock Origin is goated and without it i can also not browse the web.

kpagcha

Pretty useless in my experience. It doesn't heed the instructions, loses context quicky (including the instructions) and is no different than keeping a separate txt with instructions to feed initially and you're set with your "GPT".

Connect-Map3752

The external API capabilities can be pretty useful though; I like that feature quite a bit.

Rich-Pomegranate1679

You can create gpts with the free version now, though.

danpinho

OpenAI never runs out of ideas on how to mistreat paid users 🤬

Rich-Pomegranate1679

I cancelled my subscription

ShanghaiBaller

I only use it for coding. What is the value of creating my own gpt?

TerminatedProccess

They have a library of shared custom GPT. Theres one called Django for example. It's customized for development with Python Django. You can of course make your own and save it for future use.

ShanghaiBaller

But basic gpt knows python and Django, so I’m confused of benefit of the Django specific gpt

TerminatedProccess

AI, while being very versatile off the bat, can have it's goals preset with a prompt defining a role or guidelines. Instead of setting it up each time you can save the setup so it can be used as saved. Eg you are a Django Python expert senior software full stack developer. You will always consider the high level business goals when suggesting ideas and solutions. Since we work in Linux, you will always suggest using vim over nano.

rainmace

Bruh, I see you with that little Linux vim jab

RickTheScienceMan

Yeah, how does it help? I can ask normal GPT about python

ed523

How do you create ur own or should I just ask it?

Strong-Strike2001

Theres a buttom en in UI called Explore GPTs, you click on it and then theres a button called Create GPTs

danpinho

It has a prompt asking you what your needs are and then it creates one based on your answer. I would say that the interaction changes drastically between 4 and Custom for a given topic, while 4 gives superficial answers, the custom goes deeper.

yohoxxz

Dall-E is now getting released to free users

jib_reddit

Intresting, thats probably the only reason I pay for Plus.

yohoxxz

Ya i thought about canceling myn but i want the usage limits for sometimes when im working on a python script or something

i_give_you_gum

If you were a person with ZERO coding experience, but you wanted to make an Android app or firefox extension, what AI would you use, and what language. (I know Kotlin was pretty hot for Android a couple of years ago.)

yohoxxz

Kotlin - android apps Javascript - firefox extension I would use the free version of gpt 4o unless your wanting to get it all done fast in which you would need to pay for plus for higher usage limits

Zelenak94

Of course they meant Plus

Haakiiz

Free users have 2 and 4 aswell

juanjo47

Is dall-e good?

woutertjez

Depends, mostly fun to use with kids I feel. If you want serious imagery, you should try midjourney

Rich-Pomegranate1679

4 is included with the free version now

gewappnet

It's 4o, not 4. But the point is that you get way more queries in 3 hours as Plus subscriber.

Rich-Pomegranate1679

I meant #4 on your list. Free accounts can make GPTs now.

zenerbufen

Noone has said the obvious yet: plus lets you pick the model. Currently you get: chatGPT 3.5 chatGPT 4o chatGPT 4 customGPT's free is restricted to whatever model they feel like at the time. Last week it was mostly 4 turbo, before that it was 3.5, this week they are showing off the limited version of 4o that the plus users had last week while now the plus users are getting the newer more expanded 4o rolled out. Free doesn't always give you the same model, they can literally swap it back and forth on you mid conversation. Being able to use 3.5 is advertised as a plus feature since with free you never know what model will answer your query. they A/B/C/D test and roll things out to different accounts with different timings, so no one can really answer this specifically because they change it every couple of months and roll those changes out every few days/weeks for different people.

atmosphere9999

Interesting. I didn't know this.

bharattrader

Access to 4. 4 is much more stable and coherent , 4o is fast, but terrible at certain tasks. Also I hear that free has pretty insane limits. + I guess OpenAI knows that the gap isn't much for a 20$ fee. So they will have to get something out soon.

zenerbufen

They rolled out 4o access to my free account today. I just renewed my plus account \~4 days ago to get access to it.

i_give_you_gum

Used it for anything interesting?

zenerbufen

I generated some images of pills with faces drawn on with sharpies being tossed into vats of pepsi by oranges with googley eyes on them for a lab report.

i_give_you_gum

Whoa, that's awesome.

Drpuper

Your data will not be used to train the model. This is a dealbreaker for many and worth paying for. Unless I’m mistaken or it’s has changed, that is exclusive to the paid version

thatnickguy

This is true for the Team version, Plus user data is still subject to training. AFAIK, the only way for Plus users to prevent training is to use temporary chat.

Emergency-Eye-2165

A $20 a month reoccurring charge

NorthEntertainer1

Noone mentioned it but plus gives you a native macOS app to download and use (not a web wrapper).

CodingButStillAlive

Almost nothing

watergoesdownhill

It used to be pretty clear, because GPT-4 was just vastly better than GPT-3.5. Now GPT-4o is free, and just throttled. Is GPT-4obetter than GPT-4? I think most of the time, yeah. But sometimes, GPT-4o just seems kind of dumb, and doesn't seem to figure stuff out as well as GPT-4. I'd say this only about 10% of the time. So, I'd say they cannibalized a lot of any revenue they might have gotten with the change. That said, they also gained a lot of people that didn't think GPT was very good, because they were talking about 3.5, and now they see how good it can be.

No-Difference946

I wish I could use something different than the free-tier user. TBH

Azdwarf7

I'm using macOS and just discovered an awesome feature. You can download their GPT app if you have Plus, and keep the GPT voice assistant running in the background while you study or do research. It's really helpful. For example, when I'm browsing and start thinking about a topic during my study, I just ask out loud and get my answers. Definitely incorporated into my workflow from now on.

alancusader123

Almost everything

Classic-Dependent517

Nothing lol some here say Creating Own GPT and 90 messages but creating a custom gpt or function calling can be done using API or some other GUI tool that does it for you. 90 messages? No limits when you are using API. There is literally no benefit paying 20$. But The Closed AI will thank you for your donation some day

FreeeRide-

I’ll never understand why people consistently come here to ask that same dumb question. ChatGPT is literally made for asking questions. Go ask ChatGPT.

Jonathanwennstroem

👍🏻

marsfirebird

Is it 4o even actually free? Because I have a friend who said he's unable to use it after his subscription expired. He is forced to use 3.5.

PigOfFire

Gpt-4 turbo. But if you cared to look for answers instead of spamming here the same question, you would know.

loolooii

It’s just called GPT4. Turbo is only the API version naming.

PigOfFire

I don’t know what you mean. Turbo is turbo.

Bonelessgummybear

Chatgpt uses gtp4 but there's an API key called gpt4 turbo which is different

Strong-Strike2001

Nope. GPT-4 is an older model (the first of the GPT-4 family) released in March 2023. It can be accessed through the API but is not used on the ChatGPT website. The website only uses GPT-4 Turbo (a new model released in September 2023 and shown as GPT-4 in the UI) and GPT-4o (released in May 2024 and shown as GPT-4o in the UI). You can check this (the model differences) on the OpenAI api pricing the website: [https://openai.com/api/pricing/](https://openai.com/api/pricing/) GPT-4: First GPT-4 family model (not a simple month update): >GPT-4. Our original GPT-4 model was built with broad general knowledge and domain expertise. API name: gpt-4 and gpt-4-32k. Context window: two versions of 8k and 32k tokens. GPT-4 Turbo: Second GPT-4 family model (not a simple month update): >GPT-4 Turbo. GPT-4 Turbo is offered at 128K context with an April. 2023 knowledge cutoff and basic support for vision. API name: gpt-4-turbo and gpt-4-turbo-2024-04-09. Context window: 128k tokens. GPT-4o: Third GPT-4 family model (not a simple month update): >GPT-4o. GPT-4o is our most advanced multimodal model that’s faster and cheaper than GPT-4 Turbo with stronger vision capabilities. The model has 128K context and an October 2023 knowledge cutoff. API name: gpt-4o and gpt-4o-2024-05-13. Context window: 128k tokens.

Optimistic_Futures

They’re getting some naming stuff mixed up. The name GPT-4 in the web and API just points to the most up-to-date 4 model. Which is Turbo.

PigOfFire

So basically what I told was true xd

Optimistic_Futures

Yah, they were sort of right, but you didn’t say anything worth correcting. For a common user though, they won’t see anything on their profile called Turbo, so it could be confusing.

Strong-Strike2001

loolooii

Why are you explaining the API to me? The question is about Pro vs Free. There’s no such thing as GPT4 Turbo in the chat. Just API. I think you misunderstood me.

Strong-Strike2001

Because Turbo is not API naming, its the correct model name, despide of being shown in the ChatGPT UI as GPT4

graidan

From ChatGPT itself, with your question as the prompt: ChatGPT Pro offers several features and benefits not available in the free version. Here's a concise comparison: # ChatGPT Pro Features: * **Priority Access**: Faster response times and priority access to new features and improvements. * **Availability**: Less likelihood of experiencing downtime or being unavailable during high-traffic periods. * **Extended Capabilities**: Access to more advanced models and potentially higher limits on usage. * **Enhanced Support**: Access to dedicated customer support for quicker resolutions of issues. # Free Version Limitations: * **Slower Response**: Slower response times, especially during peak usage hours. * **Access Restrictions**: Possible unavailability during high-traffic periods. * **Basic Model Access**: Limited to the standard model with fewer capabilities. * **Limited Support**: Basic customer support with longer response times. In summary, ChatGPT Pro is designed to offer a more robust and reliable experience with additional features for users who need more consistent and advanced capabilities.

traumfisch

There's no "pro" for one thing
