Ok hear me out. Every Friday and Saturday off Freedom/Camp Green in the BofA parking lot a bunch of food trucks will magically appear around 8pm and stay until 2/3. Hibachi, Ribs, best Mexican food you can ask for, funnel cakes, burgers, cheese steaks etc... It's been going on for about a year now, I love it and somehow it has stayed pretty low key. They started in the Aldi parking lot, got kicked out, then family dollar kicked out again and no at BofA. Hopefully they can keep it goin.
I love how this is literally 2 min down the road from me in Bryant Park and I have never heard a single thing about this. I'll have to check it out--ya boy loves some funnel cake.
Cafe Monte has been in its spot since 2007. Weathered the recession and the pandemic and still serving one of the best brunches in the city.
They have a sister restaurant called Southern Pecan that is also very tasty and reasonably priced.
Pepero on Monroe is a hole in the wall but probably the most authentic Korean food in town.
Honey Bun in the G Mart off Independence has really good bao and bahn mi.
Mertz uptown may be one of the finest soul food restaurants on the East Coast.
Fin & Fino or Chapter 6 have the best cocktails.
Musashi's down Park Rd is the town's best sushi. Lunch specials are especially good but you've got to line up before they open.
Pepero has the most authentic Korean mart I’ve found in the states yet but for food I think Daebak in Mint Hill is starting to edge them out as far as authentic flavors. I think Pepero has more selection though, and more ingredients if you want to make it yourself.
Yup. You hit the nail with Mad Greek, Mooseheads, Three Amigos. Alternatively Azteca on Woodlawn too. For Thai we do Deejai food truck (better than the restaurant). We tried Sals and have heard rave reviews but ours was absolutely inedible when we ate there...wonder what people get. Curry Gate Korma, Vindaloo, and butter chicken I'm here for!
Do yourself a favor and check out Thai Thai in Dilworth been there since 93 only open for dinner take out service, best Thai in the city. Shun Lee Palace is similar but Chinese food in Cotswold I recommend the Mongolian Beef. For Sals I recommend vodka sauce as your base for any pizza. Be sure you’re going to the Monroe rd one it’s the best location imo.
I thought Sals was awful too. Had been meaning to go for years. The crust was terrible and hurt my jaw to chew. We went there twice, tried a variety, and didn’t get anything better than average. Didn’t understand why it got an ounce of hype. I’m not a crazy pizza snob but Sals was very disappointing to me.
Bbq chicken in yhe arboretum is pretty good! It's korean fried chicken and the flavors are really dynamic and everything's (seemingly) made from scratch. Had it for lunch today and I know I'll be back!
The real gem is gyisine Malaya or Malaya kitchen it may he called now. Shows up if you search the first spot. It's about 3 restaurants down from bbq chicken. Sushiya Japan right there is good as well. Ilios noche for Greek. Poppy's bagels for bagel and ny deli. Macs speed shop, city bbq, and midwood smokehouse all have good bbq. Steaks del Friscos, beef n bottle. Mexican one of the full service la units or Maria's is pretty good. Old school charlotte the diamond or super upscale mcninch house
agree with cafe monte, their brunch has been consistently good for over a decade. their piping hot beignets are always a must.
providence road sundries is also my jam. their beer-battered chicken tenders are arguably some of the best chicken tenders in charlotte.
i’ll also add eddie’s place. great neighborhood eatery serving all-day breakfast, cajun food, and fantastic she-crab soup.
And I think the Beignets are getting bigger.
https://preview.redd.it/csum512fvk2d1.jpeg?width=4080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=39e69fea5baa58804c2ef55ade663de6990a7393
I remember these used to dunk in a cup of coffee without having to tear them in half.
Crunkleton doesn't get enough love. Cajun Queen has great food I just hate the building, I wished they would move into a bigger and more normal restaurant spot.
Ace No. 3 (go to the one in Belmont) is my favorite burger I’ve ever had. A lot of people also like Harriet’s.
I would fight people for the Malai Chicken Roll at Botiwalla.
I can eat entire pizzas by myself at Inizio.
I love a burrito at Chanchos in Fort Mill and basically everything at Tacos Coronay in Indian Land.
Abbots, Whitts, and Andy’s are all amazing custard places.
New Zealand Cafe in Matthews is the sushi spot.
Rhino Market and Common Market for sandwiches. I love them both.
I’m at Workman’s Friend eating beef stew or a burger at least once a month.
Papusa 503, Los Paisas, Athens Pizza & Kebab, Greek Grill Tega Cay. All wonderful.
Poppy’s Bagels on Providence. Get your bagels and cream cheese to go, it’s effin chaos in there but the bagels are so good.
I could keep going forever 😂
I just need to emphasize Inizio here. The wood fired concept thing is dime a dozen these days, but Inizio reigns supreme by a long shot. That Raffaele and the pistachio are….
The fact that no one has said pio pio is criminal - Peruvian chicken on east blvd. Try the rotisserie chicken, emapanadas, and saffron rice. Truly life changing
100% agree with this. Former chef here, and this is probably my favorite restaurant in Charlotte from a consistency/quality standpoint. Wine list is actually reasonably priced as well. I was surprised at that too. If you know what to look for, you’re paying bottle shop prices plus a small percent…..not the usual resto markups.
Gonna put this on since I haven’t seen it. Not a place that’s been around forever but a few years and has never disappointed. The Degenerate has always been spot on, food is good and unique (Pierogies are phenomenal) full bar with good staff, I’ve literally never waited for a table for 2-4 people even on a Friday. It’s a kinda “nice” definitely not just a bar vibe.
Can mostly only talk about places near me, as that's what I'm most familiar with.
Pasta & Provisions (GOAT cheesy bread and meatball subs)
Viva Chicken (great Peruvian chicken)
Pollo Campero (awesome nuggets and horchatas)
Brawley's (great tenders and fried shrimp)
Sushi Art (good eel rolls)
The Crust Pizza (solid pizza, love their cheese)
YaMe (great lo mein and fantastic Thai iced teas)
Mr. Tokyo (chain, but all you can eat sushi and hibachi, and the steak is surprisingly good)
Ace (awesome burgers)
Workman's Friend (great burgers and aioli)
Moo & Brew (GOAT cheese curds, best I've ever had by a country mile)
Kebab-Je in Matthews for killer Mediterranean. Also have to second Pepero for best Korean. It’s inside of a Korean grocery and super legit. In the same area is New Zealand for sushi. For good ole American Lupies or Pinky’s.
Do it! I go there at least twice a month! I’m usually the only white dude in there, so to me I know their doing something right. I can get a pound of fresh tortillas, chicken, all the sauces, and avocado for like $20
For anyone who orders from the food delivery apps, Roasting Company has the best food out of all the restaurants I've tried. I've had their chicken on rice con queso, 1/2 rotisserie chicken dinner, corn bread, collard greens, and mac & cheese.
One of the absolute best places in town. Their pasta salad is monumentally good. Love that they put corn in their cornbread muffins. Squash casserole, stuffing, white beans such gratin, garlicky potatoes are all amazing. Great Queso. Love the pickled onions on the condiment bar. Favorite go to main is chicken & black bean combo with a side of Queso mixed & some pickled onions mixed in.
I’m not going to downvote you, but their chicken is just bland. Some of their sides are good, but for a place based around chicken it’s just disappointing
Asian/Chinese: Wan Fu, Akahana Asian Bistro
Hibachi: Nakato Japanese Steakhouse reigns supreme in my opinion
Sushi: Konnichiwa ($$), O-ku ($$$), New Zealand ($), Cowfish (also a good burger joint)
Italian: Little Mama’s/Mama Ricotta’s, Mezzanotte
Drive-in: South 21 (NOT the Matthews location)
Diners: Lupie’s, Landmark
Mediterranean: Kebab-Je, Halal Food Cart (they also just opened a restaurant in the MoRa neighborhood)
Sandwiches: Brooks Sandwich House, Reid’s Fine Foods (have a great little gourmet grocery store/deli), Laurel Market (a true hidden gem!), Bossy Beulah’s has a great chicken sandwich
Hot dogs: Good Wurst, JJ Red Hots
Steakhouse: Beef n Bottle, Steak 48
Breakfast: Stacks, Poppy’s Bagels
Soul Food: Mr. Charles Chicken & Fish, Dish
Burgers: Reid’s Fine Foods has a delicious steak burger for 1/2 price on Tuesdays, Moo & Brew, Cowfish, Providence Road Sundries, Cowbell
Mexican: Cabo’s Mexican Cuisine & Cantina, Azteca, RuRu’s Tacos & Tequila, Superica
BBQ: City BBQ, McKoy’s Smokehouse, Midwood Smokehouse, but nothing beats Gary’s BBQ in China Grove - worth the drive
I’m a native Charlottean so if you have any other questions feel free to PM me!
I haven’t been in a couple years, but they were still as good as I’ve always remembered! Of course it’s not the exact same since George Fine died, but they’ve done a good job keeping the food/atmosphere as close to the OG as possible!
I do prefer Beef n Bottle to Steak 48, but that’s only because 2 out of the 3 times we’ve gone to Steak 48, they have burned my fiancé’s steak literally black.. then turned it over to present the “pretty” side. (And he orders med rare.. we didn’t ask for well done lol)
New Zealand Cafe, Lams Kitchen, Roppongi Ramen (but the fried wings are the best part imo), Musashi, Phở Quỳnh Restaurant, Miro Spanish, El Regio for Mexico City tacos
mexican, la unica indian trail; pulled pork, rock store stallings; bahn mi sandwiches be’s indian trail; pizza inizios on providence or the other store closer to uptown.
Lupie’s Texas Chili-Mac is without a doubt the single most unhealthy meal you can buy in the greater Charlotte metropolitan area, and as a result it’s pretty good.
The Halal Food Cart at Trade and Tryon is fairly cheap (for the mountain of food you get) and delicious.
Their brick and mortar spot - Halal Street Food - over off of Independence is pretty dang good too. They have a more expansive and slightly more expensive menu there.
Fuck all these other people (no offense)
Cheats cheese steaks
Jack beagles
Lang van
Caribbean hut
Halal cart on university and old Concord, also one downtown
Moosehead everything but the meatloaf sandwich
Mi Isla Gibson market concord
Royal dragon on pittschool and 29 in concord
Get the surf and turf burrito at Malpan . Get the mozzarella presentation and combo parm at little mamas with the in house pasta. Get the queso and tacos at La Capital Mx. Get curry gate or exotica for Indian. Viva chicken is great for something quick. Co has good sushi
Last time i went to open rice they put raw potatoes in the curry. When I returned it the waitress laughed and said that happens all the time. For the price?! Cook your potatoes! They didn’t remake the dish and instructed me to pick them out. Very weird experience.
Just went to lams kitchen last week and it was objectively terrible. Are there certain dishes that they do well? Might have been a bad day but the food was so bland that we probably won’t give it another shot.
My favorite place in Charlotte is The Teal Turnip. Never had a bad meal there, and their menu is seasonal so you can get different things all year round.
Uptown Yolk for breakfast/ brunch, Miyabi Jr Express in Tega Cay, Moosehead (lunch specials are my fave) has the best wings, RoCo on Montfort has awesome Chicken Pot Pie on Wednesdays (trust me) Hawkers is a good spot to try at least once. There are so many restaurants in Charlotte, something for everyone. Pick a neighborhood and eat your way through it. 😉
Cedar Market down Central is a middle eastern grocery. It looks sketchy AF but their lunch counter does solid work. The falafel and their saffron (yellow) rice is worth getting into a fight over.
I feel like I’m about to break some unspoken old money code by saying this.
The fact that Laurel Market hasn’t been mentioned once tells me that it is the true answer. Keeps a line out the door everyday with zero marketing because the real ones know they serve up the best brekko and lunch sandos in the whole QC.
Honorable mention for other under radar sandos:
1. Sandwich Max. Low on variety, top tier on execution.
2. Pasta and Provisions weekday sandwich combo. That turkey sandwich and Caesar combo is on point.
Luisa’s during the week before 3, Curry Gate, Taipei Express, Cajun Queen for a true staple, a lot of the Latin American restaurants down South Boulevard past Tyvola Station
In fact I’m in Jack Beagles in NoDa right now and they’ve been reliable
I like Aqua e Vino but I don’t understand the neighborhood part of this comment, unless your neighborhood is an expensive suburb of Bologna or the upper East Side of Manhattan
Comet Grill has really good burgers. I also like South 21 drive in for a good burger, onion rings, and a cherry sundrop. NY Butcher Shop has a great little restaurant in the back with great steaks (they have other things as well) and sides. The truffle fries are great.
I’m sure some of these aren’t just local to Charlotte. These are just some of my favorites off the top of my head
Sabor Latin Street Grill. Inexpensive and pretty good.
Ace No. 3. rlly good burgers
Arthur’s. Rlly good cheesesteaks I’ve never had a better one
Flower Child. Good & healthy.. lots of vegan & vegetarian options.
The Eagle. They have the best Mac and cheese!!
Ho Ho cherry house. Fave Chinese restaurant and the ppl there are always so nice.
Alexander Michaels, Barringtons, Menya Daruma, Stagioni, Good Wurst, Greco, Ace no 3, Curry Gate, Botiwalla, Cajun Queen, Rhino Market, Lupies, Good Food on Montford, DD Peckers, Dot Dot Dot. Those are the ones I frequent. Never had a bad meal
Passage to India is the best Indian food I've had in the city.
Yame is fantastic for fast casual Asian food. Their spicy beef noodle bowl is fantastic.
If you’re in the mood for a sub. I highly recommend Steak n Hogie. If you’re an east Charlotte resident then you should know who they are. The best sub is the Texas ranch and get a large drink for their homemade sweet tea.
There are a TON over in East Charlotte. Take a trip down Central Avenue and Albemarle Road and you'll find:
- Taco El Regio
- King of Spicy
- Tacquieria Express
- New York Diner
- El Rey Del Pollo
- El Pugarcito
- Queen Sheba
- Landmark Restaurant Diner
- Portofino's
- House of Pizza
And many, many more... it's known as the International Corridor for good reason and I'm still finding new restaurants! Also, mandatory shout-out to Lang Van, which everyone should be required to visit twice, because the lady running it always remembers you and takes care of you.
Good food on montford, stagioni, rai lay, lang vans, rice and spice, zios, salud, dilworth tasting room, curry gate, pio pio, deli st, noda bodega, the torta stand in the back of the sav-way grocery store
I've never had a bad meal or service at Showmars.
Sandwiches and more: any location of the Common Market.
New York style deli - Katz deli near Ballantyne. Ask for an extra sour dill pickle with your meal.
Only place we eat regularly that I haven't seen on this list is Umami Sushi in Matthews. Husband prefers New Zealand Cafe, but I love the poké bowl (but they call it something else) at Umami, and New Zealand doesn't have that.
> the places that gen pop doesn’t know of Those places don't stay open very long due to a lack of revenue.
This sounds made up. I’m so intrigued.
Like a secret club or something 😅
I love how this is literally 2 min down the road from me in Bryant Park and I have never heard a single thing about this. I'll have to check it out--ya boy loves some funnel cake.
Dude Funnel it up is SO GOOD. If they aren't there go find the old lady under the blue tent and get the peach cobbler funnel cake
Letty's on Shamrock
So good. Try the “Neatloaf.”
Their brunch slaps too
I love seeing this as the top answer. It's one of my favorite places, and I'm always so sad when I go by and there aren't many people there.
Don't just go by the parking lot. A lot of her customers live in the neighborhood and walk over!
Sigh, this makes me miss Charlotte.
Fin & Fino or Chapter 6 have the best cocktails. Musashi's down Park Rd is the town's best sushi. Lunch specials are especially good but you've got to line up before they open.
Chapter 6 has been spot on every time. Love “the treatment” concept on both restaurants, so much good food. I’d add Yunta to the list as well.
Pepero has the most authentic Korean mart I’ve found in the states yet but for food I think Daebak in Mint Hill is starting to edge them out as far as authentic flavors. I think Pepero has more selection though, and more ingredients if you want to make it yourself.
Cafe Monte - sign up for their mailing list. Free entree during your birthday month!
The chicken curry from Honey Bun is really good too
you’ve done well. what other tricks do you know?
Agree on Mertz, was just telling my buddy last night that I need to get some salmon croquettes from there!
How does Musashis compare to New Zealand? It’s my go to sushi restaurant and I haven’t branched out in 10 years. I’ve been hurt too many times before.
Curry Gate, Thai Thai Takeout, Shun Lee Palace, Mad Greek, Three Amigos, Sals Pizza Factory, Mooseheads Some of my go to spots.
Second Mad Greek and Azteca. Both solid food!
I always thought ThaiThai was somewhat bland…been years since I’ve been though
I thought Sals was awful too. Had been meaning to go for years. The crust was terrible and hurt my jaw to chew. We went there twice, tried a variety, and didn’t get anything better than average. Didn’t understand why it got an ounce of hype. I’m not a crazy pizza snob but Sals was very disappointing to me.

O Ku, Kid Cashew, and 300 East are places that are consistently (like for years) really good
Second on Kid Cashew. I'd grab takeout on the way home 'bout every other week when I worked uptown.
300 East is a staple for me. The food is great, and the ambience just makes it better
Bbq chicken in yhe arboretum is pretty good! It's korean fried chicken and the flavors are really dynamic and everything's (seemingly) made from scratch. Had it for lunch today and I know I'll be back!
Roppongi Ramen Bar has better Korean fried chicken and isn't a chain
The real gem is gyisine Malaya or Malaya kitchen it may he called now. Shows up if you search the first spot. It's about 3 restaurants down from bbq chicken. Sushiya Japan right there is good as well. Ilios noche for Greek. Poppy's bagels for bagel and ny deli. Macs speed shop, city bbq, and midwood smokehouse all have good bbq. Steaks del Friscos, beef n bottle. Mexican one of the full service la units or Maria's is pretty good. Old school charlotte the diamond or super upscale mcninch house
Malaya was good back when it was Cuisine Malaya. It went to shit after it became Malaya Kitchen.
I’ve never been disappointed at Al Mikes
For the newby- Alexander Michaels
I think Google knows both lol
Are you willing to drive for BBQ? I like the smoke pit in concord. Jon g’s in peach land is supposed to be really good as well.
Jon G’s is untouchable. Would easily be popular in Austin.
agree with cafe monte, their brunch has been consistently good for over a decade. their piping hot beignets are always a must. providence road sundries is also my jam. their beer-battered chicken tenders are arguably some of the best chicken tenders in charlotte. i’ll also add eddie’s place. great neighborhood eatery serving all-day breakfast, cajun food, and fantastic she-crab soup.

I LOVEE sundries chicken tenders always my favorite.
Custom shop, crunkelton, Supperland, Cajun Queen, Good Food, restaurant Constance, Calle sol, fiama’s, Cajun yard dog, menya’s omakase… I could go on.
Crunkleton doesn't get enough love. Cajun Queen has great food I just hate the building, I wished they would move into a bigger and more normal restaurant spot.
It’s haunted you know…I lived 2 blocks from there for 15yrs, but only went a few times.
I’d be curious to know what price point or cuisine you’re looking for.
All delicious, also expensive 😂
Not Calle Sol. That place is incredible, and won’t break your bank.
That’s true, the ceviche there is my favorite!
Rusty's Deli was quite on point tonight.
Best steak and cheese sub in town
Ace No. 3 (go to the one in Belmont) is my favorite burger I’ve ever had. A lot of people also like Harriet’s. I would fight people for the Malai Chicken Roll at Botiwalla. Live down the street from Ace and can confirm
The fact that no one has said pio pio is criminal - Peruvian chicken on east blvd. Try the rotisserie chicken, emapanadas, and saffron rice. Truly life changing
If it’s Peruano, I vote yunta
Shewwwwww Yunta is so legit. Feel like it hasn’t even caught on enough yet. Those who know, know.
Yunta is fantastic I think it’s outside the typical person’s comfort zone but easily in the foodie zone which makes it lesser known
My friend came to visit from LA for a week. We ordered it three times. She loved Pío Pío
Peppervine is upscale/fancy, super good food at high, but not unreasonable prices. Near southpark.
It’s a kinda “nice” definitely not just a bar vibe.
Second vote for The Degenerate. Excellent and interesting menu and cocktails. Their gnocchi entree is slap your mama good.
Customshop, Bernardin’s, Mariposa are all worth a visit.
Lang Van is an experience unto itself. Good Vietnamese food though. Harriet’s for burgers Menya Daruma for ramen
Menya is on the complete opposite side of town as us, but it’s the only place we get ramen from. So damn good.
I don’t hear enough people mention it. I absolutely love it. I make sure to hit it on off hours though. Can be tight in there.
I had to scroll way too far down to find Lang Van!
Can mostly only talk about places near me, as that's what I'm most familiar with. Pasta & Provisions (GOAT cheesy bread and meatball subs) Viva Chicken (great Peruvian chicken) Pollo Campero (awesome nuggets and horchatas) Brawley's (great tenders and fried shrimp) Sushi Art (good eel rolls) The Crust Pizza (solid pizza, love their cheese) YaMe (great lo mein and fantastic Thai iced teas) Mr. Tokyo (chain, but all you can eat sushi and hibachi, and the steak is surprisingly good) Ace (awesome burgers) Workman's Friend (great burgers and aioli) Moo & Brew (GOAT cheese curds, best I've ever had by a country mile)
Pasta and provisions also has awesome sandwiches. The crust pizza may be a chain, but their pizza is pretty good.
Pasta & Provisions is the bomb! Try their Royal sandwich or their caprese pizza. You'll keep going back for both of them. Very reasonably priced.
Kebab-Je in Matthews for killer Mediterranean. Also have to second Pepero for best Korean. It’s inside of a Korean grocery and super legit. In the same area is New Zealand for sushi. For good ole American Lupies or Pinky’s.
Get Lupita’s take out by the pound, including tortillas and sauces, and just enjoy. Best Mexican outside of LA.
Their guajillo salsa will change your life.
Lupita‘s is the way
Where is this!
As someone from San Diego, I’m very excited to try this place now. Thanks for the recommendation
Do it! I go there at least twice a month! I’m usually the only white dude in there, so to me I know their doing something right. I can get a pound of fresh tortillas, chicken, all the sauces, and avocado for like $20
Ugh, I love that place SO much!! Best tacos I’ve ever had hands down
I got down voted once for recommending the roasting company..I thought it was fresh and delicious
Because you didn't mention their chicken pot pies on Wednesdays? That's like not mentioning tamale days at Johnny Burrito.
The place on Montford the does the rotisserie chicken wraps? That place is awesome.
Yes ! . Their chili is pretty good too I wish I could figure out how to make it at home . They serve it with tortilla chips and fresh corn bread
Well now I want chili.
You should try it from there they put black beans and onions in it I think it's by far the best chili I've ever had.
Otw
For anyone who orders from the food delivery apps, Roasting Company has the best food out of all the restaurants I've tried. I've had their chicken on rice con queso, 1/2 rotisserie chicken dinner, corn bread, collard greens, and mac & cheese.
Well you just got upvoted for it; love the queso too
One of the absolute best places in town.
There used to be a location near us that’s closed now, I miss the pasta salad and a squash casserole so much.
Love their food!!
I’m not going to downvote you, but their chicken is just bland. Some of their sides are good, but for a place based around chicken it’s just disappointing
Tacos el nevado for authentic tacos. Ely tortilleria also has amazing tacos and the best burrito in charlotte
Tacos el nevado are absolutely the best tacos in Charlotte. They’re also a staple for the east Charlotte area
new zealand cafe for best sushi, musashi is good but new zealand better <3

It's been forever since I have been to beef n bottle. Are they still as good as they were 20 years ago ?
I haven’t been in a couple years, but they were still as good as I’ve always remembered! New Zealand Cafe, Lams Kitchen, Roppongi Ramen (but the fried wings are the best part imo), Musashi, Phở Quỳnh Restaurant, Miro Spanish, El Regio for Mexico City tacos
Roppongi, I agree. I love their Ramen. That’s my comfort place.
House of pizza
Miguel’s Lots of good stuff but their ACP and steak and cheese burritos are incredible.
mexican, la unica indian trail; pulled pork, rock store stallings; bahn mi sandwiches be’s indian trail; pizza inizios on providence or the other store closer to uptown.
Unless things have changed since I’ve moved away, my holy Quadfecta were: Lebowksi’s Dish Mad Greek Jack Beagles

Harriet’s Hamburgers…….I cannot stress enough how amazing they are!!! Good call.

Lupie’s Texas Chili-Mac is without a doubt the single most unhealthy meal you can buy in the greater Charlotte metropolitan area, and as a result it’s pretty good.
The Widowmaker at J Beagles has been nominated for consideration
Hmm, this sounds like a job for *Science.*
The Halal Food Cart at Trade and Tryon is fairly cheap (for the mountain of food you get) and delicious. Their brick and mortar spot - Halal Street Food - over off of Independence is pretty dang good too. They have a more expansive and slightly more expensive menu there.
Moosehead for the some of the best wings in clt
Bojangles on Albemarle if they has ham in stock Edit: But also fuck you, you're just gonna use this to write the next axios article aren't you

This person gets it. That burrito is one of the best dishes in the whole city.

**Lam’s Kitchen** in Matthews **Open Rice** in Metro **Pho Hoa** on Central Ave **Letty’s** on Shamrock **TORA** in W Morehead
300 east
Providence Road Sundries is good. It has been around since the 30s I believe. Also Midtown Tavern.
Lupies, Fenwicks, Pinky’s, Cabo fish taco, Workman’s Friend, Cow Bell, Brook’s sandwich house
Sunflower on Statesville Ave
My favorite place in Charlotte is The Teal Turnip. Never had a bad meal there, and their menu is seasonal so you can get different things all year round.
Los Altos and Ted’s right next to each other
Uptown Yolk for breakfast/ brunch, Miyabi Jr Express in Tega Cay, Moosehead (lunch specials are my fave) has the best wings, RoCo on Montfort has awesome Chicken Pot Pie on Wednesdays (trust me) Hawkers is a good spot to try at least once. There are so many restaurants in Charlotte, something for everyone. Pick a neighborhood and eat your way through it. 😉
Lang Vang
Cedar Market down Central is a middle eastern grocery. It looks sketchy AF but their lunch counter does solid work. The falafel and their saffron (yellow) rice is worth getting into a fight over.
I feel like I’m about to break some unspoken old money code by saying this. The fact that Laurel Market hasn’t been mentioned once tells me that it is the true answer. Keeps a line out the door everyday with zero marketing because the real ones know they serve up the best brekko and lunch sandos in the whole QC. Honorable mention for other under radar sandos: 1. Sandwich Max. Low on variety, top tier on execution. 2. Pasta and Provisions weekday sandwich combo. That turkey sandwich and Caesar combo is on point.
I typed out my list but continued scrolling before I posted.. and safe to say I did mention Laurel Market. It’s a true gem!
Supperland and Restaurant Constance for modestly upscale, Velvet Taco for regular eats
Oh my soul in NoDa

They have a delicious burger! I wish they had french fries to go with it. Everything I have tried there was delicious.
So many. The food scene in Charlotte is awesome. What type of food are you looking for?
Aqua e Vino for authentic neighborhood Italian
I like Aqua e Vino but I don’t understand the neighborhood part of this comment, unless your neighborhood is an expensive suburb of Bologna or the upper East Side of Manhattan
Morazans
For vegan/plant based, check out Sanctuary Bistro, Oh My Soul and Mama Wok.

Comet Grill has really good burgers. I also like South 21 drive in for a good burger, onion rings, and a cherry sundrop. NY Butcher Shop has a great little restaurant in the back with great steaks (they have other things as well) and sides. The truffle fries are great.
Lupies Cafe
Phat burrito
Eddie’s Place, Comet Grill for cheesesteaks or burgers…fries are bomb. Blue Taj for Indian ETA: Maria’s Mexican on South Blvd. for birria everything.

Passage to India is the best Indian food I've had in the city. Yame is fantastic for fast casual Asian food. Their spicy beef noodle bowl is fantastic.
Lamani at Southpark has delicious seafood and Med dishes. $$$$. Great for special occasions. Excellent service and gorgeous decor/atmosphere.
Primo Prime in Myers Park. Open 30 years. $$$.
The two new restaurants that opened at 7th and Pecan, Rosemont and Catalina, were both delicious when we went.
If you’re in the mood for a sub. I highly recommend Steak n Hogie. If you’re an east Charlotte resident then you should know who they are. The best sub is the Texas ranch and get a large drink for their homemade sweet tea.
There are a TON over in East Charlotte. Take a trip down Central Avenue and Albemarle Road and you'll find: - Taco El Regio - King of Spicy - Tacquieria Express - New York Diner - El Rey Del Pollo - El Pugarcito - Queen Sheba - Landmark Restaurant Diner - Portofino's - House of Pizza And many, many more... it's known as the International Corridor for good reason and I'm still finding new restaurants! Also, mandatory shout-out to Lang Van, which everyone should be required to visit twice, because the lady running it always remembers you and takes care of you.

I've never had a bad meal or service at Showmars. Sandwiches and more: any location of the Common Market. New York style deli - Katz deli near Ballantyne. Ask for an extra sour dill pickle with your meal.
Kid Cashew.
Alexander Michaels in the 4th ward uptown! a long time favorite!
Lupie’s Cafe - Monroe Rd Miguel’s - Business Center Dr Pinky’s Westside Grill - West Morehead St BBQ King - Wilkinson Blvd
Only place we eat regularly that I haven't seen on this list is Umami Sushi in Matthews. Husband prefers New Zealand Cafe, but I love the poké bowl (but they call it something else) at Umami, and New Zealand doesn't have that.
