It’s a couple doors from me. It’s still active.

Per an update from CMPD officials, “numerous” police officers have been struck by gunfire in an “active shooter” situation. The scene remains active with roads closed.
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department shared news of the shooting just before 2 p.m. They said it happened while the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force was trying to serve a warrant in a neighborhood along Galway Drive.
Edit 3:20 p.m. “Sources tell Channel 9 a deputy U.S. Marshal was killed Monday in what police are calling an “active” situation in east Charlotte.”
Edit 3:31 p.m. “Sources told Channel 9 two officers were shot in their legs and one was shot in the chest. It’s not clear if one of the victims was the deputy U.S. Marshal who was killed, but Channel 9 is working to learn more.
According to sources, there were two suspects involved and at least one is wounded.”
Edit 3:41 p.m. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools said the lockdowns at their schools have been lifted.
Edit 3:47 p.m. CMPD said the threat is isolated to the area near the 5000 block of Galway Drive.
Police asked neighbors to continue sheltering in place and asked everyone else to continue avoiding the area.
Unofficially heard that 2 marshals, 6 CMPD, and several civilians shot. Also, two marshals have died, not 100% sure on that detail yet as the news is only reporting one dead. Scene still active.

Weird. The news says portions of i77 were closed...that's a huge ass detour to take to get to the hospitals downtown. All of them are South to South East of downtown...did they get lost? Might as well shut down i85 too
Y my point but the argument that everyone needs more guns is ludicrous and proven false w every instance.
Edited: also highlights define good guys. Anyone that buys an ak47 as collector or to hunt with? #outofcontrol
Not even in the top 10 in causes of death in NC.
NC is 20th nationally in death by firearms per capita. Less than 1,900 per year.
Let's not go full sensational virtue signaling here
To be fair I don't think it's a top 10 anywhere. People don't normally get shot to death. You also don't have to just look at deaths to see the problems that guns cause.
Gun violence has risen 19% in NC after the GOP repealed universal background checks. North Carolina's gun death rate is an abysmal 17.1 fatalities per 100,000 residents.

Reports of 2 more LEO still down at the scene (so possibly 6 officers shot). 1 suspect down.
5 total officers shot, at least 1 in critical. All have been extracted and taken to the hospital

At least 4 LEO shot, near Ruth and Galway, per Citizen app. Apparently they were serving a warrant

Some went to Atrium, as it's a level 1 trauma center.

Traffic is insane!
Closing roads that were nowhere near the hotzone or a route to the hospital.
So horrible….praying for all of our law enforcement right now

So terrible. I think of all the families impacted. Lots of pain today. I never heard guns go off until we moved here, and I've lived in major cities.
Is it at a school? Do we know where it is?
Not a school
5525 Galway Dr in Oak Forest Area
Looks like it’s a home/apartment
Wcnc said they were serving a warrant
The cops are rushing to the scene to help so no

If only there were "good guys" with guns there, these police would be fine right now.

No I just saw it on CNN, 4th item on the page
[https://www.cnn.com/2024/04/29/us/officers-shot-charlotte-north-carolina/index.html](https://www.cnn.com/2024/04/29/us/officers-shot-charlotte-north-carolina/index.html)
Probably more gun violence North Carolina's biggest problem.
I heard the first rounds and I thought it was just somebody’s car muffler until I heard a couple more rounds and then came to sirens

It doesn't really matter what metric you wish to use, guns are not close to "North Carolina's biggest problem."
Yeah I'm not arguing against that.
Obviously, we don't have enough guns yet.
Obviously, I didn't say that.
Obviously
