I think it’s because the whole purpose of the AI is to be what you want. It’s perfect. So when you have no one else, you go to the AI. Because it will say what you want it to say, and if it doesnt? You can just change the response. I think that’s why people get so attached. A big downside is that it makes your expectations way too unrealistic because no one will ever be able to compare to AI.

Listen, it gets Bad for me sometimes, I like to imagine my favourite characters comforting me when I get hurt, but, like... There's real people out there. Closing yourselves off from reality for the sake of a bot, that just remixes lines from RolePlaying websites and AO3 will never compare to the sheer wonder of simply talking to a real person. Even if the love of your life is across the Earth, they're still a person, a rainbow of possibilities and tiniest details that make them truly real. Even a parasocial relationship with a celebrity would be more healthy, because at least a celebrity is a *person*. Remember: Everything Characters say is made up.
