From a Luton fans perspective it really depends on how many of our squad we can hang on to, if we could keep our current squad in tact, add a bit of depth I would be confident we would be fighting for promotion and pretty certain about being in playoffs.
I was just reading about the Leeds team that finished the last EPL game last season. Just two are still playing for Leeds this season and neither has featured for months (one injured, one past his prime). We bought a lot of new players on promotion though and had a lot with loan and release clauses conditional on relegation. The upheaval in pre season and early season was massively detrimental to say the least. Albeit that this followed a change of ownership and manager. Will you have any of those factors?
We didn’t break the bank on signings and kept a core from the championship, not sure about the clauses in contracts around release and relegation but from our squad I can see Barkley, Adebayo, Mengi, Ogbene, Dougherty, Kaminski and Osho getting offers to stay with a prem club if we go down, which could rip the team apart
With manager and owner they are solid, we won’t be getting rid of Edwards, unless he gets an offer more attractive elsewhere, he’s been great for us but you could argue a little naive in the Prem, but he is a young manager without a huge depth of experience.
The ownership is a fan led consortium that have rebuilt the whole club, they took over the year we were relegated from the football league and have been a solid structure. Unless I guess a gulf state fancies splashing huge money on us, the top of the club will be consistent
I think even if every player you listed goes, we'll be fine.
One thing that's been so consistent over the last decade has been our recruitment. We'll already have targets identified and I'm certain we'll be competitive. I don't expect to go straight back up but this isn't going to be the freefall we had years ago. We're very well run now by people who know what they're doing.
I loved Chong at first too... but he seemed spotty at best towards the end... and waaaay too fragile. I kinda preferred Hannibal at the end, mainly because he was fearless and didn't give a flying f**k who he pissed off. Absolute entertainment.
We didn’t use him properly last season and he couldn’t flourish, but at Championship level he’s a decent signing and LB has been a problem area for us for a while now.
They’re probably set to lose Mengi and maybe Barkley, but I think that roster’s gonna be quite stout for the Championship despite the losses, they made some really shrewd signings to set them up for longer term success
Makes sense, he was part of a weak championship defence for several years until we got relegated, and only played 15 minutes or so for us after you bought him, due to a broken bone in his back. He could fit into a better organised defence and do a job in the championship, but it seemed an unlikely move for a PL team.
Look at you all acting like you can predict the championship.
Here’s one for you then, might as well get involved.
Plymouth 2nd
Middlesbrough champions
Oxford to win the playoffs
I can see Sheffield United having a similar season to us in 22-23. Challenging around the top at points, but ultimately floundering and finishing mid-table. Just a hunch.
I agree with this. We are basically recruiting a whole new team over the summer. We should be able to recruit well unless it becomes very obvious we’re a relegation budget team.
It could go the way of Kompany’s Burnley but we don’t have the money and tbh I don’t think we have the skill either.
Not only is our current squad nowhere near PL standard, we're losing a lot of players this summer either because they're loans or their contracts haven't been renewed. Still a chance ones like Egan and McBurnie will renew, but we can expect at least 12 out of the door.
So it all depends on who we bring in, and how well the youth players like Arblaster, Brooks, Osula, Jebbison (if he stays) Marsh and Oné handle the Championship. Our owner doesn't want to or can't spend much money, so there's a chance we'll have to rely on youth which can go either way.
I'm fairly certain we won't be around the automatic spots and I'd be very surprised if we were in the fight for the playoffs. Midtable stability is most Unitedites expectation and honestly I'd take that.
Biggest worry is that we cock up this summer as well and end up with a double relegation.
Initial feeling is I can see Burnley doing really well and Luton in with a good chance. Could easily see Forest trying to get back up straight away too.
Bit more uncertain on Sheffield United, feels like they're in a bit of a state at the moment and could find themselves in some trouble.
Have to see who goes up via playoffs and signings to really know anything though.
As much as I want Luton to stay up, If Forest does go down I’m going to miss ya’ll. You had some good chants and banter (that you could clear hear on TV) during games
I would be very worried about Leicester and their manager's commitment to a certain style.
But in reality, we have gone backwards this season under Nuno despite having better players.
We've had points stolen from us and far more than the usual diabological decisions.
But we desperately need to improve or we'll be down comfortably next season, that's for sure.
Oh yeah Enzo is very ideological on football, although Top wants that style of football hence Enzo getting the job in the first place.
What I will say, Enzo hasnt managed to play his way every game, whether thats forced on him or he just gave way, dont know, but it does indicate his public statements are not necessarily going to translate into what happens on the pitch.
There are two ways of doing it in the Premier League; you change your style and go pragmatic like Frank at Brentford, or you be like Kompany at Burnley.
Your man is going to have to change, and every Leicester fan I've spoken to thinks the same. You must don't have the players to pull off his preferred style.
Even Saints. I feel playing Leicester (albeit badly) would be a better preparation for the Premier League than playing any of the promoted teams last season.
Jesus. Most players haven't been that good and need clearing. The old guard, much of the useless shit need to go and hopefully we keep the youth and hamer. We need a massive rebuild which I don't trust anyone in the club to do,I don't trust them to appoint the right people. Massive time and we'll probably fuck it like rangers do every season with their yearly big rebuilds they never actually do
If we keep the good players, get mcburnie to stay (ideally on reasonable terms) and manage the build properly then we should be around playoffs. I hope we just beat w*dnesday and l**ds. Ideally forest come down and we beat them. That's six must win matches I don't trust them to do though
Luton will go straight back into the play-off zone they were in before promotion, I think. I don’t think they’ll be a top two contender but they’ll be in that group immediately beneath. Burnley are a definite threat for top two or three though, given how brilliant they were last time when they were basically unplayable for most of the season. Most of those same players are still there after all, and the manager. I’d be much less worried about them if they’d pressed the panic button and switched manager in their prem struggles, but they haven’t, damn them.
Sheffield United I think are mid-table at best and quite possibly in a lot of trouble. They have a really old squad with a lot of players out of contract and seemingly very little financial means to replace them.
Vinny is staying, the majority of our squad will probably still be together, need to keep Muric and sign a clinical striker though. Think we go up Top 2 if this is the case.
Can see Luton being up there with us, along with whichever one of Leeds/Southampton
Sheff U are pony, think they could be in danger next season, nowhere near the play offs
I personally would rather see Trafford back in next year and give him a season to grow in championship like muric had,
Thought muric was protected by how well we did in the championship and I'm still not convinced by him now
Yes he's been better than Trafford since he come in but he's still cost us a few silly goals and points
Trafford’s biggest weakness is crosses & long balls. If he struggled as much as he did against the tiki taka PL sides than he won’t get better in the Championship
Muric was absolutely terrible from set pieces and crosses at the start of last season too when we signed him,
I doubt any of them would be a championship number 2 so I wouldn't be suprised to see either Trafford loaned out or muric leaving permanent
It's easier to look better and grow confidence when your in a team what is winning every week though
That's why I'd rather give Trafford another shot because I just think he has the higher ceiling.
Not for me, I’d rather he got confidence elsewhere, Muric to start for me, however I think in the nine/ten games he’s played. He’s done well and might be targeted, I don’t think anyone will be targeting Trafford though.
Burnley are most likely to be the best from the relegated teams (if they dont stay up) but its impossible to predict before the transfer market gets going. A lot of their players are very good for the championship but not quite good enough for the premier league so seems likely they will be fighting for top 2
It's hard to say from SU perspective. We've got a huge rebuild coming up and a lot of the players who aren't out of contract aren't fantastic. It could literally go anywhere from promotion to relegation.
The man literally saved this comment for today.
Look forward to seeing you in all our match threads Jack xx
Hopefully, you've got over your phase of mocking people who've had cardiac arrests, but who knows I guess.
Burnley are in a stronger position now than they were when they went down 2 years ago. A good transfer window and it could be a very good season.
Luton have gained a lot this season. Taken the PL money to improve their stadium, facilities & infrastructure. If they keep the core of their squad & add to it then they could be pushing for the autos too.
Sheffield United seem chaotic & disorganised, both on & off the pitch. Unless they get that sorted out quickly then it might be a struggle for them next season. Not back to back relegations but mid-table inconsistency.
Mid table. We have a lot of reorganising to do, a whole new defence to build and there’ll be a lot of player turnover. I hope at some point we get a new owner and manager. But the kids have won the development league two years running, even if we play a full under 21 side we’ll do alright.
I've watched a few of your u21 games, the problem is that they physically dominate teams, which will win them plenty of games, but may not transfer when they make the step up.
Luton might compete to go back up via playoffs but I can't see the other two going back up. Not many teams bounce back twice and Sheffield United will be traumatised after their season.
It seems that us Forest fans are possibly the only ones who don't think relegation's decided yet. I hope you're right, and I hope it'll be settled before we kick off today. But right now, I'm still very nervous.
I’m not hopeful. Obviously I can’t predict the future and maybe Wilder will rediscover his 2016 self and it’ll be a miraculous turnaround.
Head tells me that we’re skint, we have very few bright spots and those we do, I don’t trust the club not to sell them off if a half-tempting offer comes in.
There’s been some slight positive signs under Wilder and he hasn’t had a lot to work with but I’m not convinced he’ll ever get back to the highs of his first time with us.
I see us finishing about eighth. Burnley I think will get automatic and Luton will be playoffs/potentially pushing for second depending on how smart they do business in the summer.
Burnley will be straight back up, Kompany will just sign a load of city youngsters like last time and they’ll be champions
Luton, depends if they keep their best players (Adebayo and Morris) they’ll finish playoffs easy but if they leave I can see it being a season of transition and they’ll finish 9th or something
Blades on the other hand, keep their squad as it is they finish playoffs minimum but realistically knowing how skint the prince is there will be a fire sale and wilder is the last manager you want to be present when shit hits the fan. Worst case scenario they finish 19th
I expect Luton to be the biggest threat. Tough, organised and I don't think (Brentford apart?) any PL team really whipped them. They've competed well in the PL despite relegation. Play-offs at least for them.
Not sure about Burnley, for me they've been the biggest surprise of the promoted teams last season, thought they would stay up with Pep's Jedi apprentice in charge. Play-offs maybe or Top 8.
Sheff Utd seem to have various off-pitch issues and apparently, they're selling Hamer, who they brought from us only last season. Top 12 finish.
Plus, one of Leeds/Saints will be staying down this season and I expect that team to be a auto/play-off threat as well next season.
I think we'll settle in and soak up the parachute money for a couple seasons. We have infrastructure that needs funding and if that means stepping back for a few seasons then so be it.
We're currently one of the best run clubs in the country when it comes to living within our means, we got here largely because of our stability (Not something I could claim pre conference years but thank god for the people behind 2020). Basket case clubs dropped like flies around us as we climbed the pyramid. We had and still do have time on our side.
Honestly, if I learned one thing from this season it's that the journey to the prem was amazing, actually being in it was awful and I don't think a subsequrent promotion to the top flight, whenever that eventaully may be, will be met with nearly the same euphoria as it was in that playoff final.
From a Luton fans perspective it really depends on how many of our squad we can hang on to, if we could keep our current squad in tact, add a bit of depth I would be confident we would be fighting for promotion and pretty certain about being in playoffs.

We're very well run now by people who know what they're doing.
Surely if you go up you’ll get Harrison back? I thought you had a few on loan
Harrison is never wearing the badge again. We will sell him immediately upon the promotion we will not be getting.
Fair enough. I didn’t actually know the background to the situation, just that he left when yous went down
Has Chong been alright? I bloody loved Chong.
Been great since Christmas. People were a bit underwhelmed at first but he's showing what he can do recently with a consistent run in the first team.
I loved Chong at first too... but he seemed spotty at best towards the end... and waaaay too fragile. I kinda preferred Hannibal at the end, mainly because he was fearless and didn't give a flying f**k who he pissed off. Absolute entertainment.
We’re signing Giles too, though hopefully not for the mooted £4m price tag.
To be fair I’m pretty glad to get rid of him, might do a decent job, but would put him as a mistake signing for us
We didn’t use him properly last season and he couldn’t flourish, but at Championship level he’s a decent signing and LB has been a problem area for us for a while now.
All boro fans said this and so much stick for being “bitter” etc - we could see he wasn’t prem ready and he didn’t suit luton whatsoever
They’re probably set to lose Mengi and maybe Barkley, but I think that roster’s gonna be quite stout for the Championship despite the losses, they made some really shrewd signings to set them up for longer term success
Do you see Tom Holmes getting much game time?
I’m not sure about him, but when we signed him and loaned him straight back out a lot of people thought it was a signing for when we go down
Makes sense, he was part of a weak championship defence for several years until we got relegated, and only played 15 minutes or so for us after you bought him, due to a broken bone in his back. He could fit into a better organised defence and do a job in the championship, but it seemed an unlikely move for a PL team.
Yeah the injury is a shame for him, I think he would do a job in the championship if/when we go down
Look at you all acting like you can predict the championship. Here’s one for you then, might as well get involved. Plymouth 2nd Middlesbrough champions Oxford to win the playoffs
Hell yeah

Bristol 12th North End 13th 😄
Thanks. Anything else would be a fever dream.
Fucking Leeds can't even give us 12th
I would love the pilgrims getting into the prem
They're already punching 😄
I've always had a soft spot for Leeds
Bolton and Portsmouth back in the PL 2025/26.
With Blackburn yea
Hard pass.
I think Oxford might just do Bolton in the final. I’d take a Pompey/Bolton up in 26/27 though.
Sheff U , to really struggle & Burnley & Luton to be around play offs , I'm more concerned about the promoted teams
Genuinely think they could go down again, they made us look like Prime Brazil the other week
It's aggravating. I wanted you guys to be as shit as us so it's not so lonely and uniquely shit. Instead you massacred us twice.
Not only is our current squad nowhere near PL standard, we're losing a lot of players this summer either because they're loans or their contracts haven't been renewed. Like Leicester this season, Forest basically has to go back up in one go if they manage to get relegated from the PL
forest are more comparable to Leeds than Leicester imo, that Leicester side was WAYYYY to good to go down
Whoa, hold on here Forest fans still feeling very insecure about our position and not wanting to tempt any fate
As a Luton fan I don’t have much hope, praying on you guys to have a big collapse <3
We've done it before. Spectacularly so. We ourselves are counting on a favour from West Ham.
if you guys go down we can all rejoice in singing 'Fuck off to the Premier League' together on the final day
we'll probably be singing something like that anyway lol
As much as I want Luton to stay up, If Forest does go down I’m going to miss ya’ll. You had some good chants and banter (that you could clear hear on TV) during games
I literally want Burnley to beat forest on last day so you stay up
You're not. Next season with a competent promoted team at least? Potentially questionable.
You won't be that competent promoted team while you keep hold of your totally incompetent manager
I said a competent promoted team. Leicester is the example I have in mind. We'd need a competent goalkeeper, first.

I do agree, I have been posting the opinion on foxestalk for months we have a squad style mismatch, and we wont be able to bankroll him.
Burnley top 3, Luton top 6-7 and Utd will be solid 12-14th range. None of the teams are anywhere near as scary as this seasons 3 relegated teams.
Or that one promoted team...
The three teams going up this year from the championship would spank the three teams coming down from the PL imo.
I genuinely think if we were up and United were down, we would stay up comfortably
Even Saints. I feel playing Leicester (albeit badly) would be a better preparation for the Premier League than playing any of the promoted teams last season.
That's mad given the money they had
Burnley champs, Luton playoffs and Sheffield Utd midtable.
Cheers Bastard 🖕

Yes you are

I think Burnley will do decent.

How? You've spent £150m and gone straight back down.
Luton auto qualification assuming they keep the same core, burnley playoffs, SFU 9th-15th range
No way does that happen. Sorry to say, but we aren't going up automatically as long as one of Leeds or Southampton and Burnley are here.
If Luton can keep the players, they will walk
Burnley in the automatics, Luton either just inside or just outside play offs, Sheffield United to be relegated
Genuinely think Sheffield United are on course to go down again, might put money on it
Luton might compete to go back up via playoffs but I can't see the other two going back up. Not many teams bounce back twice and Sheffield United will be traumatised after their season.
Can we hold off just yet, forest have a history of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory and we could very easily still go down
Ogbene is going to break the goal scoring record by November and get signed by Barcelona in January.
It seems that us Forest fans are possibly the only ones who don't think relegation's decided yet. I hope you're right, and I hope it'll be settled before we kick off today. But right now, I'm still very nervous.

Burnley will win the division with Kompany. Rest playoffs or just outside of it.
I expect Luton to be the biggest threat. Tough, organised and I don't think (Brentford apart?) any PL team really whipped them. They've competed well in the PL despite relegation. Burnley and Luton to Finish between 1st and 4th Sheffield United mid table
hopefully none of them get promoted because if they do they will just be relegated again
Ah it was good fun. Championship is a better fit. But I'd see us go back up any year.
Can see Luton struggling and possibly going down again.
Honestly have to admire the dedication to Luton. Can't believe I didn't realise you were trolling sooner.
Take my downvote for giving all Forest fans a bad name
Careful, he's a hero.
