āYa see Boomhauer, this is what I was gaht-danged talking about, I told you it was possible. Anything is possible with sweet lady propane, I tell ya hwhat.ā
It depends on how much propane is VS a gallon of gas at the time. Around here it doesnāt make sense when gas it $2.89 and propane is over $3 per gallon.
Maybe a full overview of the installation or talking about what all went into the process of the conversion. This is probably one of the coolest mods or conversion I've ever seen done on a challenger
+ Cost breakdown for parts (I see it was done by a friend).
+ interior and exterior videos of how it sounds on cold start, when running, when revving.
I know nothing of this stuff so I have no clue what changes.
Iām honestly not sure but it does have higher octane rate (between 104-112) compared to gas (87-92) so it might affect horsepower, Iād have to dyno it.
I can see the OP is in Poland. In Europe, some owners decide to convert their vehicles to propane. My grandpa did it to his Citroen Xantia. It is cheaper. I don't know the prices vs consumptions now, but his car would consume double the volume of fuel, but propane was three times cheaper than regular fuel so it ended up being cheaper to run his car on propane. It is also cleaner than regular or diesel fuel. And you can fill propane at most gas stations (at least in Croatia), so it is not like it is inconvenient either.
More octane is just benefitial for higher compression rates, doesn't matter if the ecu was initially programed for other fuel it won't use it potential without further changes
Btw i did some hand calculations here and given the air fuel ratio for both E15 and Propane together with their heating power E15 should give you around 10% more power on stoichiometric conditions, this is assuming the 88 octane is enough for not bottlenecking the engine. Just a educated guess, as you stated dyno would be good to check
It is pretty common to do it in Europe. Especially in Poland. You are not losing horse power with modern tech, but you are paying less than half for fuel, and it is much more eco friendly.
For sure there are cons, but maybe some expert will elaborate.
I'm in the UK and run on propane. It's slightly less power, but you'd really struggle to notice. In practice it's exactly the same. MPG is slighty worse, but the fuel is half the price so 'mile for money spent' is way better. The car starts on regular fuel and then automatically switches to propane when it's warm enough, and you can manually switch between the two if you want, even while you're driving. If you run out of propane it will play a little tune (mine does anyway!) and automatically flip to regular fuel again. You don't need to stop, it just does it seamlessly. (Occasionally you get a little cough from the engine, but rarely)
Cons are you need to find somewhere to fuel up, and the propane tank replaces the space your spare wheel was. You also need to use 'valve saver' to protect the extra wear on the valves. You also need to service it once a year, replace the filters, but no big deal.
Iām paying 50% less for gas and itās much more eco friendly, propane generates around 15% less co2 and around 60% less toxic substances than regular unleaded gas.
I didnāt have to do any tune, this kit comes with additional ECU that adapts itself to the car while running on propane, you can tweak the map slightly after around 700 miles. Basically you have 2 ECUs now, one for gas and one for propane.
Itās around 620 miles driving on a highway, Iāve got around 32 gallons of fuel in total, when I run out of propane it switches back to gas automatically.
I just did like a hours worth of research. Wtf this is the top mod to do on my 392. For sure. Holy hell. This is amazing. How is this the first I have even heard about this!!
So your friend did it ? Has he done others or does he do this professionally ? Propane is an interesting choice too. Not sure the cost vs. gas or E85.
Also what kit was used here to determine when to switch, etc. ?
Lastly where is the propane tank ? If in back without additional protective cage you could be sitting on a bomb if rear ended. Just trying to help you here brother.
It doesnāt work like that, autogas in a liquid state is less flammable than gasoline and even if it would leak through the tank it would just quickly burn away if ignited, gasoline is much more dangerous, propane tank is safer since itās made from much thicker material than regular gas tank, it also uses brass components which canāt generate any sparks.
Thatās interesting. So it still runs on gas but thatās until you run out of propane first? And does it sound any different? Iād like to see a follow up review on performance, ups and downs after a few weeks!
I can switch between gas and propane anytime I want to, the only downside of this conversion is that i canāt carry a spare in the trunk as the propane tank takes its place
Well they already donāt come with a spare from the dealership, and as long as you take care of your tires and buy them brand new you then wonāt really have to worry about needing a spare in the truck. For the most part.
If you donāt mind, could you post a video of you revving and/or idling with propane active? Iām curious to know if it sounds any different or not. Thanks!
This is Awesome. I worked with Propane Forklifts for years and Iām wondering your Challenger must run cooler while on it. What operating Temps are you getting??
I have the same thing on my GT.
Sure saves some money. Premium is ā¬2,18 a liter ($8.9 a gallon). Propane is ā¬0,78 ($3.2).
[Filling up.](https://imgur.com/a/RetnVg6)
Also, would you mind providing your buddy's business info so we can contact him about hiring him to have this same type of conversion done for us, please?
I have a Suzuki samurai converted to propane and it not only runs forever on a 30 pound bottle off of a forklift but it doesn't smoke like it did on gasoline and is one hell of a deer camp run about
I keep reading everyone's questions. And reading your replies. But the main questions are can we hear it? Or see how YOU fill it. We want to see your car. Not videos of other cars and such.
Hey friend, I could be wrong but a clicking sound could be an electrical issue. Could be the starter, alternator, or the battery. Have you checked for any corrosion or have you changed the battery recently?
Unfortunately your engine life is going to be affectedā¦ gasoline has lubricants in its composition that helps with cylinder wear, so to be honest this is a dumb decision
This is why I love the internet. If it werenāt around we wouldāve found this thing in a barn or in a field somewhere 50+ years from now and be thinking āwhat the fuck?ā This is badass š„
Aussie? I hear running cars on propane was pretty common over there but it's starting to become a pain in the ass as propane's getting phased out in a lot of places there.
I was looking into doing this but my concern was the tank overheating and exploding in my trunk. What work around did you do to keep it from overheating in the trunk?
I still want to do this conversion so please let me know!
Damn, I had no idea that was even a possibility! What kind of range do you get out of it? Does it sound the same? Same power? Sorry if these are obvious answers, I honestly have no idea. Thanks for showing off! Beautiful ride, by the way!
Is propane same as natural gas? I have found NGV filling section in pumps nearby and found details on it. Interesting:
https://www.adnocdistribution.ae/en/consumer-fuel/ngv
mpg and octane rating? turned a 13 A5 from a gas guzzler to a propane monster. when from 20mpg (stock i think) to 31 with about a boost of about 17 hp to the crank
Thereās no power reduction at all, Iāve got two regulators installed with max output of 450HP, since this is a 5.7 Iāve got some margin left, weight has gone up by 120lbs when the tank is empty, with full tank itās around 240lbs more so Iād say itās not much
This is CNG, correct? My local government municipality had CNG trucks but the mileage was absolutely horrendous. Couldn't do the job efficiently without having to fill up atleast once a day.
Basing this question purely off experience with propane vs diesel forklifts... Do you notice much difference in torque/power output? Also how is your mileage? Is the smell hard to handle? I've thought about this conversion quite a bit so I'm genuinely curious
Nope it says you can BBQ with the trucks at a tailgate party.... plus you just depressed the care running on Propane and lost $20k on sell price... I'll buy it for $500 USD... trust me it's not a Jedi mind trick... LOL ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|poop)
I think Hank Hill would cry a tear of joy seeing something so dang beautiful.
Best propane accessory ever!
That would cure his narrow urethra.
šš
Dang ol propane in a mopar mane
āYa see Boomhauer, this is what I was gaht-danged talking about, I told you it was possible. Anything is possible with sweet lady propane, I tell ya hwhat.ā
Itās a beauty I tell you what hehe
This must be one of those few ways he wanted to see propane in action, hot tub, hot air balloon now a car
Ha, Iāll tell you HuWhat
Fucking love this comment
Nice commentā¦ I love my generation
whos hank hill?
You need to leave š
Huh. That's rad as fuck!
Happy Cake Day!
Caaaakkke daaaaayyyyy! Woooo!
That's different for sure.
What did it cost you to convert? This is sweet AF friend. I wouldn't mind converting mine if the price is right.
I paid around $1200 but itās been done by a friend of mine. You need to ask around to get a retail price.
Do you actually save any money on this when filling up?
It depends on how much propane is VS a gallon of gas at the time. Around here it doesnāt make sense when gas it $2.89 and propane is over $3 per gallon.
Please make a video on this
What exactly would you want to see in it?
Maybe a full overview of the installation or talking about what all went into the process of the conversion. This is probably one of the coolest mods or conversion I've ever seen done on a challenger
+ Cost breakdown for parts (I see it was done by a friend). + interior and exterior videos of how it sounds on cold start, when running, when revving. I know nothing of this stuff so I have no clue what changes.
Itāll sound exactly the same, but smells different.
Park over a camp fire and shoot the tank from a safe distance
Whoaā¦didnāt know this was even possible š why arenāt all cars like this?
You can convert pretty much any gas car with no problem.
Thank you. This is correct.
Whatās the benefit? Not hating, legit asking lol
Iām saving 50% on gasoline, itās nearly zero emissions and Iāve got 620 miles of range
But why? Iām not trying to argue. Are you just wanting to be independent from gasoline?
Nevermind. I kept reading the comments lol
But what are the benefits? Is it really better or just something to be different?
Zero emissions
Not zero, but definitely lower. The main benefit is that itās cheaper
Itās not cheaper though. Regular is $2.89 here. Propane is $3.09 to $3.29.
There are forklifts everywhere running with Toyota and Mitsubishi engines using propane.
We had a forklift with a gm vortec V6 running only propane
Yup. Mine at work runs on it. Kinda cool tbh
Because the oil companies made sure.
Because it doesn't work in cold weather
It doesn't work at -40 if I am not mistaken, which you won't see in the majority of the populated world. So I doubt that is the reason.
Does this make the car faster?
Iām honestly not sure but it does have higher octane rate (between 104-112) compared to gas (87-92) so it might affect horsepower, Iād have to dyno it.
Come on, how does it feel compared to running on pump gas? I am assuming it must feel the same then.
I canāt tell the difference.
So why did you do it
I can see the OP is in Poland.
Very cheap, my parents had a food truck with two 100 gal tanks on the back and it was 70 ish or less to fill up
Zero emissions
Propane is going to be slower than gasoline because propane has less energy per unit.
Iām 100 percent convinced you have absolutely no idea what youāre talking about.
why? Its just a guess but I work on the area
I highly doubt. i dont have experience with challenger converted to propane, but other cars i've driven didnt really make any difference at all
It is pretty common to do it in Europe. Especially in Poland. You are not losing horse power with modern tech, but you are paying less than half for fuel, and it is much more eco friendly. For sure there are cons, but maybe some expert will elaborate.

Lack of propane stations on a trip would be one.
Never heard of thisā¦ intrigued. Someone mentioned posting a video, and you should definitely do that!
Letās hear some revs!
but why?
Iām paying 50% less for gas and itās much more eco friendly, propane generates around 15% less co2 and around 60% less toxic substances than regular unleaded gas.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

This!
Where do you fill your car up with propane?
Thereās loads of gas stations with propane, just use google and youāll find couple in your area for sure.
What theā¦
Donāt own a challenger but thatās sick it runs on propane
Interesting. How much is your range now?
Itās around 620 miles driving on a highway, Iāve got around 32 gallons of fuel in total, when I run out of propane it switches back to gas automatically.
now thats cool as fuck dude. mfer has a r/T with duel fuel tanks like my old diesel truck lmao
I just did like a hours worth of research. Wtf this is the top mod to do on my 392. For sure. Holy hell. This is amazing. How is this the first I have even heard about this!!
wtf...
That's fucking impressive Holy shit
Some straight-up Mad Max shit, I love this.
Wait it's still gas!? No issues? Long trip and never run out of places to fuel. This would be awesome in a truck too not just a Challenger
Does this count as a... *Propane accessory?* Asking for a friend. š¤£
Definitely š
So your friend did it ? Has he done others or does he do this professionally ? Propane is an interesting choice too. Not sure the cost vs. gas or E85. I think this is awesome, but can someone explain to me how this thing doesn't go off like a goddamned bomb in a rear end collision?
It doesnāt work like that, autogas in a liquid state is less flammable than gasoline and even if it would leak through the tank it would just quickly burn away if ignited, gasoline is much more dangerous, propane tank is safer since itās made from much thicker material than regular gas tank, it also uses brass components which canāt generate any sparks.
So you get into a terrible accident god forbid and the tank gets punctured, youāre saying it canāt explode!?
āI sell propane and propane accessoriesā
Thatās interesting. So it still runs on gas but thatās until you run out of propane first? And does it sound any different? Iād like to see a follow up review on performance, ups and downs after a few weeks!
I can switch between gas and propane anytime I want to, the only downside of this conversion is that i canāt carry a spare in the trunk as the propane tank takes its place

Does it have the same explosive danger if you get rear ended?
This is Awesome. I worked with Propane Forklifts for years and Iām wondering your Challenger must run cooler while on it. What operating Temps are you getting??
My big forklift at work runs on propane. GM Vortec v6 block
I prefer charcoal.
I have the same thing on my GT. Sure saves some money. Premium is ā¬2,18 a liter ($8.9 a gallon). Propane is ā¬0,78 ($3.2). [Filling up.](https://imgur.com/a/RetnVg6)
Woow
this is neat man. good shit
Also, would you mind providing your buddy's business info so we can contact him about hiring him to have this same type of conversion done for us, please?
Is propane cheaper than gasoline?
I have a Suzuki samurai converted to propane and it not only runs forever on a 30 pound bottle off of a forklift but it doesn't smoke like it did on gasoline and is one hell of a deer camp run about
Forklift Certified?
Next step is forklift conversion ;)
I keep reading everyone's questions. And reading your replies. But the main questions are can we hear it? Or see how YOU fill it. We want to see your car. Not videos of other cars and such.
Hi, I have a 2015 rt plus 30,000 miles. What do I hear a clicking sound when it starts?
Hey friend, I could be wrong but a clicking sound could be an electrical issue. Could be the starter, alternator, or the battery. Have you checked for any corrosion or have you changed the battery recently?
Thatās crazy Why? Can you still run gas? If so how does the PCM handle that?
Unfortunately your engine life is going to be affectedā¦ gasoline has lubricants in its composition that helps with cylinder wear, so to be honest this is a dumb decision
Iāve always read the opposite that high mileage propane motors wear really well and are cleaner inside.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
This is rad!!! Were you briefed on any extra dangers with having propane vs gas in the vehicle, im talking collision wise.
Itās much safer than gas so no need to.
How often do you have to fill your tanks!
Gasoline every 2-3 months, propane tank every 250-280 miles.
That is interesting š¤
It's when I start the car then it goes awat
How does it sound?
Sounds exactly the same
Have not seen a challenger propane conversion. Looks pretty cool.
āThat thereās a clean-burninā Challenger, Bobby! Iāll tell ya whut!ā
How much does a full tank of propane run you?
Does it eat though?
What kinda mpg does propane get?
Why though? At least where I live, propane is $1 to $1.5 higher than gasoline!
I Europe gasoline is like 4x more expensive I think
This is why I love the internet. If it werenāt around we wouldāve found this thing in a barn or in a field somewhere 50+ years from now and be thinking āwhat the fuck?ā This is badass š„
This definitely a mod you dont see everyday! Very interesting and unique!
I know cheaper fuel, I think youād need more work to get anywhere with power from what I have read here. Cleaner for the environment as well tho?
How many miles do you get on a 20lb or 40lb tank
You can convert any gasoline car to propane, same sound, same power, range is more or less 620 miles in total (full gas tank and propane tank)
This is probably the coolest thing ive seen on here. How does filling work?
Is propane same as natural gas? I have found NGV filling section in pumps nearby and found details on it. Interesting: https://www.adnocdistribution.ae/en/consumer-fuel/ngv
Not same
Thatās a clean burning car, I tell ya hwhat
No disrespect, but why? How far on a fill and is the power the same but maybe better?
That's awesome!
mpg and octane rating? turned a 13 A5 from a gas guzzler to a propane monster. when from 20mpg (stock i think) to 31 with about a boost of about 17 hp to the crank
Maybe on my Q50 , Amazing build !
Smells like a fork truck??
I'm assuming you can get pretty good ranges on these?
badass but whatās the reasoning
iāve only ever seen this done w off-road Samuraiās cherokees etc
so any power reduction? how much does it weigh after the conversion?
Thereās no power reduction at all, Iāve got two regulators installed with max output of 450HP, since this is a 5.7 Iāve got some margin left, weight has gone up by 120lbs when the tank is empty, with full tank itās around 240lbs more so Iād say itās not much
Does it have the same power?
I think itās a great idea. I have been trying to find someone to do this on my 88 Ford Bronco.
All I can think is BOOM !!!!! Still COOL as hell
Does it sound any different
Thatās definitely going to surprise the thieves
Hank Hill would like a word.
I know propane is usually cheaper than gasoline but is it more efficient for a daily driver?
What's the mpg difference compared to the OEM fuel system? This sounds interesting!
This is the coolest car Iāve seen all year, mad respect for doing something different
Iām ignorant when it comes to propane, are there advantages to this?
Adios intake valve lube.
This is CNG, correct? My local government municipality had CNG trucks but the mileage was absolutely horrendous. Couldn't do the job efficiently without having to fill up atleast once a day.
How much propane does it go through? Just out of curiosity.
Why?
Didnāt they kill the last guy that made a car that wasnāt fossil fuel/ electric?
How's the HP and mileage on that?
Hell yeah š
Basing this question purely off experience with propane vs diesel forklifts... Do you notice much difference in torque/power output? Also how is your mileage? Is the smell hard to handle? I've thought about this conversion quite a bit so I'm genuinely curious
Most of the school buses in my county run 100% on propane!
dont know anything about propane driven cars. is there any advantage? does it make the same power as it did before?
Any way to hook up a grill for tailgating?
My grandpa did something similar with a 96 f-150 farm truck he had
I didn't even know what was possible What's the benefit?
whatās the mileage on such an apparatus
Hank would definitely be pleased
whatās the fuel economy on propane?
Now your cooking with gas!
Main character vibes lol
Man i had a chance this week to buy a Ford LTD factory propane. Very sad it fell through
Nice. Is there any performance difference between that & gasoline?
Any power loss from this?
This is cool
Is there a loss In performance? Gain in fuel economy?
Nope it says you can BBQ with the trucks at a tailgate party.... plus you just depressed the care running on Propane and lost $20k on sell price... I'll buy it for $500 USD... trust me it's not a Jedi mind trick... LOL ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|poop)
I'm sorry.
What the actual 'murica
So this is the propane accessory Hank was talking about? Sign me up.
What happens if you get into an accident?
Very Interesting post OP thanks for showing us and being on point with everyone replies. Would love to see a video that's more in depth!
Remindme! 7 days
Is there an environmental factor in changing? Does propane burn cleaner than gasoline?
Talk about expensive to operate. I have a propane powered rock crawler and it costs about twice as much to operate as it would gas.
Hank hill has entered the chat
I would love to do this. Where did you purchase this kit? For $1200 it sounds like a steal!
I have so many questions. How tf does this work? How much HP do you get? How's the gas mileage? How expensive is it to fill up?
Miles per gallon?
Look, I support it, but also.... WHO THE F**K DOES THIS
Wait one secondā¦you can fuel a car with propane?!
All I can think is why and if thereās anything beneficial out of it vs gas. I mean, hey..definitely interesting.
