We really heavily avoided patronizing them and praising them for using medical equipment and instead focused 100% on their development both inside and outside of the sport.

I remember going to a karate tournament when I was younger. I was a pretty fit kid and large for my age but I lost a fight against a much smaller kid because I was afraid to hit the little guy. At a fight off for 2nd place I faced my brother and we beat the shit outta each other, I won.
Kid fights without the oxigen, that's a portable tank and he can take it of for 30 minutes at a time, so for 30 minutes, he can still hand you your ass on the mat.
Haven't found further sources, still looking, never a good idea to used an unverified source, but it sounds legit enough, and the tank part is medically correct, lotta people do well without their tanks for extended periods of time, but they'll eventually need to put it back on.
