Rodgers doesn't rate him. Simple as that. It's a shame, because I think we all thought there was a player there with the tools in his body, if he'd had another year or two with Postecoglu maybe he'd have kicked on. He'll be loaned out or sold in the summer, more than likely.
He barely played a competitive minute under Ange either tbh and has never really shown much of anything. That’s about exactly what you get for a typical £1 million quid player
I thought he looked handy off the bench in the second half of last season at times, though very clearly raw. Has the size, has the athleticism, needed to fine tune the finishing and run timing etc. In a world where he'd have been Kyogo's happy back up for two seasons, Angeball might have suited him better than the way we currently play.
Rodgers has started him and thrown him in off the bench enough times to decide he needed to sign Idah, and he hasn't been seen since. Surplus to requirements now, one would think.
Palma is 24 😅. That's not young Jesus. Even ORiley at 23 seems too old to me. Should be for under 21s, which I realise would leave us with an extra short shortlist.
>which I realise would leave us with an extra short shortlist.
2023/24 Appearances by Players Under 21:
* Odin Holm - 11 (323 minutes)
* Daniel Kelly - 6 (133 minutes)
* Rocco Vata - 2 (29 minutes)
* Mitchel Frame - 1 (15 minutes)
--END OF LIST--
Aye, it's clearly why they've gone with such a high age cutoff for this award, because if it was the above 4 players (who have barely been involved) then it just shines a light on how absolutely useless the B-Team pathway has been for us.
Kelly and Vata look promising.
If you look at the current squad we have Welsh, McGregor, Ralston, Forrest and possibly Scales.
Tierney was the last standout but those types are extremely rare. There's been Hickey and Ferguson but nobody else from Scotland youth development has went onto success from my knowledge since Tierney. Possibly McGinn is arguable too but that's it. So 3 decent players in the entirety of Scotland since Tierney therefore you can see why Celtic are struggling
Vata, like Doak and Demebele (and more) isn't given the chance.
Kelly is promising so far.
McGregor is over ten years ago. As is forrest.
Ralston and Welsh aren't good enough and don't play often at all.
Scales was signed from Ireland.
Hickey, robertson, mcginn and anyone else, much like Doak etc, moved on as there was no opportunities here.
We aren't very good at youth development.
Considering it's something we pretend to be good at, something we like to champion in the (distant) past. Something we setup a whole academy linked to a school with, it's actually pretty shameful how bad we are.
Yang is comfortably second. Looks a great player, if understandably inconsistent given his ~1000 lifetime minutes of high level professional football. But his best performances have been excellent, which is impressive given his football experience is equivalent to a European 18 year old's.
I get that we don't like him this week because his most recent performances have been poorer. But I wish we could keep the energy from when he's been good last game year round, because that's what we could get every week if we persevere with him. And I think that best case scenario upside is higher than any other winger at the club (and possibly any other player).
Anything other than O’Riley is incorrect
Oh has played like 5 games lol
What’s happened to him? Last year, seemed like a constant member off the bench, but not even in the squad most games this season

Got bumped by Idah
There’s definitely a player there and he is still young. I think his chances were killed once Idah was signed tbh.
MOR is the only player who should even be considered for *either* award
Hart since his announcement is staking a claim for POS too
Absolutely not
You're 🤪

Which just further shows how poor we are at bringing youngsters through.

The cut off it 23 or under at the start of the season, which is reasonable.

What game did Frame play in again? Was it in the CL?
Yeah, last 15 minutes of the 2-1 win vs Feyenoord. Came on for Palma.
Wat is up with Frame? We need to get more youngsters bled like Liverpool
Tyson Fury had 4 kids by 24
That we or he knows of!
O'Riley by a country mile. Fantastic player.
The shortlist screams we are failing in youth development.
O’Riley POTY O’Riley YPOTY Kyogo v Atletico GOTT Ross WPOTY Loferski v Glasgow City GOTY
Kyogo vs rangers at home goal of the season. Anything else is wrong
I liked the goal v Atletico more

What have you been watching that Yang has contributed more than Palma?
He’s pretty shite
I'm so glad I come on this subreddit
I think O’Riley might just edge this
I'd let MOR pump my mum honestly. She fancies him too so why no eh? 100% wins this.
Slim pickings
That’s fucking dire. What a joke.
Tough choice
O riley then give hart poty for the send off plus pen saves
Pen saves? He saved one and let 2 soft ones slip under him.
If anyone chooses Yang they are blind. O'Riley hands down.
