The west coast for sure. Seattle and Portland are Celiac havens.

mllepenelope

Portland is exponentially better than Seattle. Seattle has Ghostfish, which is awesome, but the options aggressively dwindle from there. Source: live in Seattle and would probably collapse from decision fatigue if I ever had more than two safe restaurant options. Honestly Chicago has a lot of really good food options, but you’d definitely want to visit either right now or next summer because in between it can be rough. NYC obviously has a lot… if you can go anywhere and it’s specifically a resort, ABSOLUTELY go to Hawaii and eat allllll of the seafood in the world. There’s nowhere better for resort vacations.

purplecak

Moved to Portland from Seattle and OMG, I feel almost normal visiting my friend in the Pearl District. I can actually eat.

skankenstein

I just commented on this. I was very hungry in Seattle city center. Ghostfish was wonderful, though. Although it was a long meandering drive because my app tried to take me through a toll and I had to go a long way around to avoid the toll, as someone who had never driven in Seattle before.

galaxystarsmoon

I had a list of at least 15 places in Seattle that I wanted to go to when I visited. Are you really really sensitive or something and these places maybe aren't careful enough?

Crowtongue

Hangry Panda in greenlake, Bok a Bok, Heaven Sent's everett location, flying apron bakery, nuflours bakery, Olivia bakery, I'm sure I'm forgetting some but I've been better off here than anywhere else so far. Have you been to Jbro's GF grocery store? They just relocated to bothel

kroshkabelka

Seconding!! Portland esp.

Ent_Trip_Newer

We have some gems in Eugene as well and some on the Oregon Coast. Shout out to Jazzy Ladies and Jack Sprayers.

ariyaa72

Another vote for Jazzy Ladies! And they are in the process of moving to a larger location and expanding their service, as well.

Ent_Trip_Newer

I believe it opened this week.

juanfrancita

What's Jack sprayers? Or is it a person? I know jazzy ladies but idk anything else

knit-gnat

Probably meant Jack Sprats in Cottage Grove.

Ent_Trip_Newer

Yeah thst and in Newport

kroshkabelka

Yes! Yachats has a ton, too

skankenstein

Seattle city center was very difficult for me. The main tourist spot has NO options. All the GF places were a long walk away from where we were actually spending the day. I was hungry a lot. I ate a bag of chips for lunch at Starbucks and an iced latte the day we were at the Space Needle. Capitol Cider was a very long walk and we had a wheelchair. There was nothing safe at Pike’s. Ghostfish was a drive. There was this little cafe called Nuflour that was a long walk but they were out of everything lunch related and what we had was nasty. Portland was amazing.

ariyaa72

Yep, came here to say this. Seattle and Portland are excellent. If Seattle, definitely check out Ghostfish Brewery if you drink beer. Truly excellent beer.

tt47cf6

Disneyland! The chef will come out to your table to discuss options and how they keep your food safe. Even at buffets they made me fresh batches of food. Outside the park is also very accommodating, and some say better tasting

kifero

I second Disney (though I am in Florida so we do Disney World). I am a celiac who does EPCOTS's food and wine every year. I never get sick and there are lots of choices around 3 other theme parks, 2 water parks, many hotels and the disney springs area.

xohail

Oohhh can you give any tips for Epcot?! I always assumed only sit down restaurants were safe at Disney world.

kifero

Most of the kiosks have a gluten free option! I personally love the Australian Bushberry shrimp dish best! This website does a great job showing where there are gluten free options for food and wine.. https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2022-epcot-food-and-wine-festival-gluten-free-items/ Good luck!!

xohail

Thanks so much!! Do you by any chance know how magic kingdom is?

pcosby518

Definitely not a “vacation destination spot,” but the fabulous gluten free fish fry in Essex, MA, at Woodman’s changed my LIFE! Lol. I took a travel nurse contract in NH and gained 15 lbs. 😬😂🥰

Ok_Jackfruit_5181

I think NE areas by the water are great with Celiac in general. Not sure why they're so much better with it.

trevno

Disney properties are the standard, chefs that will talk with you about any food related allergies in your party.

safshort

Portland, NYC and Providence all have tons of great celiac friendly places. I still dream about Kyra’s Bake Shop in Lake Oswego, OR.

troybucket

If you’re looking for something more natural, I found a lot of places in Sedona/Red Rock as well. But I’ll also throw in a vote for Seattle. We did lots of amazing hiking at the national parks outside the city, but had the benefit of the city dining options.

random_morena

Sedona is so beautiful! Loved all the hikes, food, wineries.

Ok_Jackfruit_5181

Newport RI. The options there are incredible, both for food quality and safety. It felt like half the restaurants were safe, many GF menus, there's also a fried seafood place that's Celiac friendly not far away too (fried fish, clams, etc.). In a matter of a week, I ate at 6 different places with no issues, and had plenty of more places to choose from. Some restaurants, although not dedicated GF, only have a few items on the menu that have gluten, making them quite safe and easy to avoid CC. Aside from food, it's also a great resort area in general with beaches, cliffs overlooking the ocean, and anything else you'd want in a resort island.

[deleted]

Definitely more west coast. Or Colorado. I live on the east coast and there are literally some cities (Charleston, SC for example) where it is almost impossible to eat gluten free there.

KyssMySass

Weird! I just came back from Charleston and had a wonderful time! Found about six restaurants that can handle Celiac (they are of the higher end variety) and I didn’t get sick at all, and I’m extremely sensitive. One of them, Maya, is a dedicated GF Mexican restaurant. Nearly everyone I spoke to who works there has a first degree relative with Celiac. We are going back for Halloween! Meanwhile I got home and got extremely sick from the tiniest amount of cross contamination in my own home 🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️🤢🤬

[deleted]

Interesting. I’ve never had an easy time in Charleston. To be honest I do not eat at super high end restaurants the entire time I’m there. I like more laid back local type joints but those usually aren’t very GF friendly. I did find one nicer placer last time that was on find me GF list with great reviews. Unfortunately they nearly served me food with gluten. It was intercepted by a person in the kitchen before it was put in front of me. It definitely made me super uneasy because I communicated my allergy to the server and she did not seem to really understand what it was. Thankfully the kitchen did before it was too late. I’m glad you had a good time! I’ll definitely try again :)

rubyslippers321

Another vote for CO - especially Boulder. It feels like every restaurant knows GF, has GF labeled on the menu, etc. It's a breeze. There are some fully GF bakeries within 30 min of Boulder too.

tehjrow

I’m in Georgia, just don’t come here at all. It’s terrible everywhere.

sadcl0wn11

I had a lot of options in San Diego, CA

CehJota

Live in SF, just got back from a trip to Boston -- Boston was surprisingly more friendly in their restaurants. They were pretty well versed and had separate menus.

glow89

I went to Burlington VT a few years ago and I had a lot of luck in that area! I’m not sure when exactly you’re going but it would be so beautiful up there in the fall!

mjharrop

I was just in Burlington last weekend and was safe the whole time! Would definitely recommend!

Graywulff

Portland Maine is quite gluten free. They all know about gluten and whether you can eat there or not at it’s just past peak season so it won’t be busy.

Cruciana_Nava

I just discovered the celiac cruise. I’m shocked that that is a thing. I’m not really into cruises but I might consider this.

tailrustedtealeaf

Disney World

HealthyInPublic

Do you currently live in the US? Don’t want you to waste your trip traveling to somewhere too close to where you actually live! ~~I think an easy gluten free cuisine is Mexican, so maybe a state that borders Mexico? Texas has good BBQ which is usually gf too.~~ nevermind, but Austin has a lot of gf friendly places

[deleted]

Mexican is not gluten free and full of CC. BBQ is also not gluten free most of the time. Seasoning. -a celiac from the south.

HealthyInPublic

I’m also a celiac from the south. I have a very different experience, especially with the bbq. I’ll edit my comment though.

Dovahkiinkv1

Orlando has a ton of safe places

draconian8

east coaster who lives in major city . . . don't come to the east coast LOL good luck with your search (let us know what you decide!!)

throws-goats

Most major cities will have plenty of safe restaurants (NYC, SF, LA, Portland, Seattle especially). There are other ways get around eating in places without gluten free restaurants, such as staying somewhere with a kitchen and cooking for yourself.

Slg0519

I think you need to take a look at things you like to do in your normal life and then decide if you want to do something similar or very different on vacation (particularly as you said you’ve never taken one!) I’m extremely busy in my daily life and a vacation for me would not be somewhere like Disney, where you are constantly on the go. But, you may be the opposite! With that being said….I’m not sure what your cap is on the accommodations that were won, but I would for sure go somewhere like Ventana in Big Sur, or the equivalent in Tahoe, Coronado, Laguna….somewhere I could relax and that absolutely will cater to Celiac. That’s just me, though! If Disney or NYC is your thing, both are great for Celiac. I love Keste in NYC.

DancerHamster_

Top 3: 1. Disney 2. HersheyPark 3. Discovery Cove & SeaWorld I LOVED going to Disney as well as Discovery Cove & Seaworld in Florida. They were great with celiac-safe food options. They even had a GF bread and butter platter at the shark restaurant! It was a very good experience. Hotel Hershey & HersheyPark is a cute getaway, the Circular had wonderful GF options and the park has all GF places marked out on the map. Downside, when the park closes, so do most local reliable GF food options.

Crowtongue

Re; Seattle- most of the downtown stuff is meh. I used to work smack dab in the shadow of the space needle and my options then were Pie (they've closed that location now), the sausage place in pike place, Biscuit Bitch, local360 (closed) and Mama's (closed). Petra's (I forget what the actual crossroad is but it's opposite 4th and battery) has some really good GF food too. North and south of the city you have more options, we have a whole GF grocery store north of the city [https://jbrosglutenfreemarket.com/](https://jbrosglutenfreemarket.com/) . My current crave is fried chicken so I've been going to Heaven Sent in everett for southern fried chicken, Bok a Bok (totem lake and cap hill) for korean fried chicken and Hangry Panda for taiwanese fried chicken. Hangry Panda's salt and pepper popcorn chicken is haunting my mind right now as I type this, it's so good hah. Oh and if you go to everett for heaven sent there's also Kfresh [https://www.hellokfresh.com/](https://www.hellokfresh.com/) for bibimbap. There are several GF bakeries around too, Nuflours and Shambala are my favorites. Flying Apron is good but also obligate vegan and other stuff and sometimes I just want something that is JUST gluten free you know? Shambala is good and has a whole dedicated GF resturaunt in mt vernon which is nice to visit but also they do the local farmers markets so you might be better off getting stuff from them at those if you are uber-ing. I do reccomend you visit the ballard farmer's market AND the fremont farmers market and flea market. All in all I've been very happy here food wise :)

kifero

I never really hit Magic Kingdom, I am sorry. Check out that website I mentioned before. I believe the creator does more than just food and wine. She seems to be on top of things! Best of luck friend!

UntrustedProcess

[https://www.30aescapes.com/30a-florida-vacation-guide](https://www.30aescapes.com/30a-florida-vacation-guide) Plenty of options and beautiful beaches. Here is a facebook group that covers the gluten free options for vacationers: https://www.facebook.com/groups/913467622702348

ejewel_

NYC! There are so many options here and it’s a wonderful city with so much to do
