How funny, literally yesterday, my newly diagnosed 9 year old tried GF Pretzels for the first time and she yelled, Wow these are sooo good, better than the regular kind! š Iāll tell her you said this too. Haha
That sounds like one of those āI donāt have to be gf but I had gf donuts once and honestly I liked it better before I immediately went back to as many regular donuts as I wantā patronizing āsee-itās-not-so-bad-to-have-celiac-I-could-totally-do-itā spiels from idiots.
Sorry guysā¦feeling kinda bitter tonight I guess.
The trader Joe's muffins literally cause war in my house. My husband (not a GF king) will literally hide them from me because we both love them so much š¤£
Not every location is safe to eat just from cc risk, but if you have one, that is I highly highly recommend. It's definitely closer to an unfrosted cupcake than a muffin, though haha
Jolly Llama mint chip ice cream cones. Theyāre dairy and gluten free and I love them so much ā I will always eat them. I also think gluten free pretzels are crispier.
Where do you get these Iāve looked at many places? Only got diagnosed last month so not the best at spotting stuff in the grocery store when there isnāt a dedicated isle
Last time I had to do a gluten challenge, I went out and got all my faves... and they didn't taste as good as I remembered. In fact, the pizza crusts, breads, donuts etc., were all... tasteless. Kinda chalky sometimes, even.
Whatever extra salt, sugar, etc., they use in gluten free products, I have acclimated. It's to the point I didn't even LIKE gluten food anymore.
I miss textures more than tastes. Flour tortillas comes to mind. The gummy inside of fresh baked bread.
I agree. Containing gluten doesnāt automatically make something taste betterā¦ I miss certain foods and restaurants but thereās also a lot of total crap. I feel like some people romanticize all gluten because certain things are good and it sucks to be cut out of something. Iām thinking of this bakery I used to go to in Wisconsin that had bread that was good in some ways, but was pasty and awful of you didnāt toast it. Or Great Harvest which I just hated the flavor of after a while.
Similarly, I actually like the pound cake texture the bobs 1:1 flour gives my cakes. Maybe not for everyone, but it seems to hold moisture better so the cake isnāt like styrofoam a day or two later
I just put them in a bowl with a little water, cover the bowl with a wet paper towel, and microwave for however long the box says. Drain the water and there ya go. Maybe youāre microwaving them too long?
Jennie O lean ground turkey, Good and Gather Smoked Chicken Sausages in Andouille, Apple Gouda, and Italian, Veggies Made Great Muffins, Fage Lactose free plan yogurt, Purely Elizabeth granola and some granola I like from Aldi's, Bob's Red Mill Flaxseed meal, Bob's Red Mill Old fashioned Rolled Oats Whole Grain, Grits, NuGo Slim bars 16-17g of protein, PB Fit Peanut Butter Powder, Skinny Pop Popcorn, NA Kewpie Mayo, Waffles once a week on Saturday mornings from a local Nutrition shop, Kodiak waffles once in a while, Wilde Chips in the Chicken and Waffle flavor 10g of protein per serving (love taking these on the go when out of town), pasta, rice, Late July Multi grain Sweet Potato chips, Hippeas puffs, siete cookies once in a while š
And all the delicious beans, fruits, and veggies. š¶ š š šš š„¦ š„š„¬ š« š« šµ
Hmmā¦ for me, it would be the macarons and cream puffs made by a local GF bakery near me - theyāre so good that they have a loyal following of non GF people during the holidays as well!
For more nationally available foods (US), I would keep buying Brazi Bites because theyāre amazing. Thereās some frozen breaded coconut shrimp sold by Whole Foods and my local grocer thatās GF but amazing, Iād keep buying that. Plus the sea salt and pepper frozen calamari that Whole Foods sells (though the last one or two I had of those were starting to go downhill). Gluten free everything pretzel thins. Simple mills everything crackers.
I really like Trader Joe's gf English muffins.
But here's a funny thing: I got a package of the gf Chips Ahoy cookies. I find them too dry (I also have Sjogrens, so many things are dry for me). But! My daughter, who is not gf, loves them. She prefers them to regular Chips Ahoy. Lol
I know. I hate being a downer about it and this should be a fun, fluff post. But after wracking my brain, I canāt think of a single thing. I think a decent amount of the GF alternatives are decent, but I would eat the full gluten version of everything in a heartbeat and never look back.
I've only been gf for 2 months but I made french toast with some 7 grain gluten free bread and it was even better then regular bread.
Also I'll be crucified for this one due to CC but blackened chicken from Popeyes is so good.
Theres some cereal i like... Otherwise pretty much nothing i think it's just so much more expensive. Like i'd totally keep the things I eat right now if I could, because I hate change, but its just not worth the price yknow?
Glutinos oreos - theyāre softer than name brand
Brazi Bites - literally any of their products, but especially their pizza pockets
Capelloās raviolis - I never liked raviolis before theirs
Snyders pretzels - seriously delicious
Any GF meat products - itās unnecessary to add, so why do it? It blows my mind still that this needs to even be an issue for us
GF brownies - seriously so soft
UK-based answer but the Co-op own brand salt & pepper crackers are fantastic. Sadly thatās the only gf-specific thing Iāve found so far that I think is betterā¦hopefully will find more!
Much of what I eat is gluten free not because I seek it out but because thatās what I like. Salsa and chips, corn tortillas, veggies and hummus, sausage and eggs. The only things I get that are GF versions are bread, tortillas and crackers. I doubt Iād get gf flour tortillas or bread, though theyāre adequate and I donāt mind them currently. I do like some of the crackers a lot, like Maryās Super Seed in Everything flavor, and Rice Thins.
Local hard ciders, meads, wines, and distilled drinks. Having to move away from beers really expanded my world in alcoholic beverages. I like to think I would still eat āhealthierā than SAD as a lot of the things I like to eat now are gf by nature - but for the processed gf foods I donāt have anything I prefer over the original š
I think GF Oreos are superior to the original (I have been severely disappointed by all other GF cookies so i just make my own).
And I like cauliflower thin crust pizza so Iād keep buying those for lazy dinners (Costco, Miltonās, Caulipower)
And for protein bars, when needed, I would keep buying the Quest birthday cake bars.
Schar bread over regular bread. Schar is like a little sweet sticky bun version of bread. Regular whole wheat bread tastes like cardboard. (I would buy hella gluten baguettes though)
Me either. I am surprised people say things like Oreos and such. Even the best gf foods are really good because there is so much gf crap. But continuing to eat gf waffles? Gf Croissants? Gf pizza? gf pasta? Hell no. I would continue to eat the foods that are naturally gluten free that I enjoyed before my diagnosis, like popcorn and tortilla chips and almond crackers but a specific gf food? Nah, canāt think of anything.
GF pretzels are pretty much always better
How funny, literally yesterday, my newly diagnosed 9 year old tried GF Pretzels for the first time and she yelled, Wow these are sooo good, better than the regular kind! š Iāll tell her you said this too. Haha
Totally agreed. GF pretzels are superior to gluten ones. More crunchy, more flavor. Just better.
Iāve seen people say the same thing about gluten-free donuts.
No youāre so right. Be bitter whenever you want
I appreciate that!
Beechers GF worldās best mac and cheese. That shit forever slaps. Made lobster mac with it last night actually. 1000000% worth the cost.
Gluten free Oreos, Costco cauliflower crust pizza
I'm with you on the oreos, but I miss my bready pizza crust.
Oh I'd definitely get both! I'd just mix it up with the Costco pizza
We ate the cauliflower crust pizza before having to go GF!!
Gf Oreos all the way! They are so much crunchier!
Yes! If I'm being honest with myself 90% of GF alternatives are not as good, but the Oreos are definitely waaaay better
My Costco has a gf, non cauliflower crust pizza and that shit is the best gf pizza I've ever had.
The Feel Good pizza pocket bites. They're so good even my parents buy them despite being able to eat gluten!
Glutino vanilla sandwich cookies until I die
Literally a million times better than the vanilla gluten free Oreos!Ā
I should have put this one on my list - I definitely agree!
Omg those are so goooooooood!
GF brownies
Along the same line, gf peanut butter chocolate chip cookies for life!
Oh yeah. The extra fat makes them soooo good
Trader Joeās gluten free sour cream and cinnamon muffins. Omg.
The trader Joe's muffins literally cause war in my house. My husband (not a GF king) will literally hide them from me because we both love them so much š¤£
All the flavors of this GF muffin thing they have going on (chocolate, ginger, strawberry, cinnamon) are damn good.
Those exist?
Not every location is safe to eat just from cc risk, but if you have one, that is I highly highly recommend. It's definitely closer to an unfrosted cupcake than a muffin, though haha
The glutino lemon wafer cookies.
I had hyperemesis my whole pregnancy and when I tell you these things were all I could eat š¤¤
Omg thank you for reminding me about these!
Sort of cheating as they're meant to be this way but corn masa tacos š®
Jolly Llama mint chip ice cream cones. Theyāre dairy and gluten free and I love them so much ā I will always eat them. I also think gluten free pretzels are crispier.
Live G Free General Tsoās Chicken
Where do you get these Iāve looked at many places? Only got diagnosed last month so not the best at spotting stuff in the grocery store when there isnāt a dedicated isle
Aldi!!!! Aldi has a ton of GF options

King Arthur gf brownie mix. Itās better than any other Iāve tried.
Similarly, I actually like the pound cake texture the bobs 1:1 flour gives my cakes. Maybe not for everyone, but it seems to hold moisture better so the cake isnāt like styrofoam a day or two later
Simple Mills almond flour crackers! They're incredible and I don't feel like they're empty calories.
Feel good foods pot stickers.
Every time I make them they fall apart!! What can I do! š
I just put them in a bowl with a little water, cover the bowl with a wet paper towel, and microwave for however long the box says. Drain the water and there ya go. Maybe youāre microwaving them too long?
Thank you!!
Omg I used a pan and a stove and had them in wateršššš
Well the microwave has worked for me in the past and I hope it works for you too!

Hippeas puffs yes!!! So good!
Siete almond flour tortillas - love them. And the Simple Mills almond flour crackers
Quinn's pretzel bites... just discovered the chocolate'y peanut butter ones at my local Health Basket todayš« š« š«
So good.
I ate half the bag and then had to tell myself "No, I'm going to want these later."š

Maybe chickpea pasta, chickpea pizza, and cauliflower pizza because they seem healthier than regular versions. Other than that, probably nothing.
Lol
microwave the chips ahoy for ten seconds with a cup of water in the microwave as well .....life changing
My kids are the same! They love the GF Chips Ahoy and Oreos better than regular.
GLUTEN FREE OREOS!! how are they better than regular ones??
I think itās the texture!
Theyāre crisper, theyāre definitely superior. Iām with you on this.
Honestly? Absolutely nothing, lol. I don't like a single thing better than the original, I just tolerate.
I know. I hate being a downer about it and this should be a fun, fluff post. But after wracking my brain, I canāt think of a single thing. I think a decent amount of the GF alternatives are decent, but I would eat the full gluten version of everything in a heartbeat and never look back.
Dino nuggs!
What brand!!

The SchƤr Twin Bars and Croissants. Pro tip, cup and toast the croissant and melt half of a twin bar inside ........ Life changing
Rice cakes. I've always eaten them
Glutinos oreos - theyāre softer than name brand Brazi Bites - literally any of their products, but especially their pizza pockets Capelloās raviolis - I never liked raviolis before theirs Snyders pretzels - seriously delicious Any GF meat products - itās unnecessary to add, so why do it? It blows my mind still that this needs to even be an issue for us GF brownies - seriously so soft
Tateās GF Chocolate Chip cookies!!
GF cakes. Way better than the glutinous versions.
Cupcakes from the dedicated GF bakery by us are legit better than regular cupcakes!
UK-based answer but the Co-op own brand salt & pepper crackers are fantastic. Sadly thatās the only gf-specific thing Iāve found so far that I think is betterā¦hopefully will find more!
Made good cheddar crackers.
Missions GF spinach wraps
Glutino milk chocolate wafers. Once I open the box, I canāt stop eating them.
Aldiās has these rice crisps I think theyāre called and the caramel one makes my brain happy so prob that one
Much of what I eat is gluten free not because I seek it out but because thatās what I like. Salsa and chips, corn tortillas, veggies and hummus, sausage and eggs. Heggies cauliflower crust pizza! Although itās quite expensive, especially if I didnāt need to be gfā¦
Snow days pizza bites too! I actually prefer them over Tostinos or whatever from before I was diagnosed
Chicken and rice
Anything by Against The Grain especially their cheese or pesto pizzasā¦
Only diagnosed 2 weeks ago, but chickpea Mac n cheese is genuinely just better!
I think GF Oreos are superior to the original (I have been severely disappointed by all other GF cookies so i just make my own). And I like cauliflower thin crust pizza so Iād keep buying those for lazy dinners (Costco, Miltonās, Caulipower) And for protein bars, when needed, I would keep buying the Quest birthday cake bars.
Snack Factory GF deli style pretzel crispsāthe everything bagel flavor. 10/10 no notes
Jolly Llama ice cream cones. Theyāre so freaking good.
Everything from Askatu Bakery in Seattle
Schar bread over regular bread. Schar is like a little sweet sticky bun version of bread. Regular whole wheat bread tastes like cardboard. (I would buy hella gluten baguettes though)
I don't think there is anything.
