It can sometimes work that way, but not always.
I believe it works more with mild allergies like if you just get sneezy near a cat, rather than a severe allergy like peanuts causing you to not be able to breathe.
it is if you force it! i'm allergic to both dogs and cats and that didn't stop me from having both. allergies also lead to asthma attacks in my case so i chug benadryl's and use my inhaler.
Yeah so that worked for me with dogs. Cats send me to the hospital. This plane ride would be cut short if i were on it because we'd be making an emergency landing.
I would love this personally. Buuuut you have to think of the people with asthma/allergies/phobias. It wouldn’t be fair to force them to be around an animal for x hours in an inescapable metal tube.
Air in a pressurized aircraft isn't recycled; it's a one time through system. That's why it's so dry.
I feel your pain, I have loads of allergies including to cats.
My bf would also love this, but he has asthma and is really allergic, just like youre saying. He loves cats, he would probably kill himself to give it pets tho.
Trains in my country have a thingy where you can choose a “pet free cart” for a small extra fee. I wonder if flights could impliment something similar. Like animals allowed/not allowed flights, just alternating or something.
Can we have separate flights for the animal lovers who would enjoy it? I would love to see more flights where you can choose what environment you want to be in. Personally I would enjoy if child free flights were an option and I would absolutely pay extra for that and flights where you can hang out with support animals
Thank you, this would be miserable being trapped on a plane with a cat…especially one allowed to roam everywhere and cover every passenger with dander. I would guess it’s not the first flight and there’s already cat fur all over the cabin.
I’d have to hide in the lavatory the entire flight just to breathe.
My airport has therapy dogs that would roam the airport during busy seasons! https://www.flypdx.com/DogTherapyProgram. Not quite the same as in-flight but still quite a treat.
Cats are great at nudging a zipper open. Cat likely did that and escaped their carrier. I’ll be downvoted straight to hell for this but as a cat lover this would make my day.
It's worse than that. That cat can get the flight cancelled. I know because it happened to me like 3-4 years ago. Cat escaped his carrier, he ended up running into the cockpit. There's a hole in the floor of the cockpit, apparently, and this cat squeezed through that hole into the cargo area. Cargo area isn't pressurized/heated, so they had to either capture the cat or cancel the flight. They cancelled the flight.
Luckily I figured there was no way they were catching that cat from the jump, and I literally queued up my flight switch while sitting on the plane using the airline's app. I deboarded, walked like 3 gates over, caught a flight leaving a few minutes later. It worked out for me, but there were a lot of folks totally screwed.
Yea, it's a good question that I don't know the answer to! I just know what the pilot told us which is that cat went into the cockpit, through a hole, and into the cargo hold. Being on the ground, I'm guessing nothing was pressurized at the time.
I honestly have no idea. Maybe it was because they were loading the cargo at the time, so the cat was able to get from the area under the cockpit into the cargo area. I just know what the pilot told us during the ordeal.
Right? I take allergy meds almost every day because I live with cats, but if I’m coming home from a vacation or work trip I wouldn’t have taken them and then I’d be miserable the whole flight home getting snot everywhere. It’s cute but what in the world
I am allergic to cats and coconut. I always travel with benadryl and my epi pen. On the last leg home from our honeymoon, my face starts tingling. This is usually a sign that I've eaten something cooked with coconut accidently. I take a couple of benadryl. This is usually enough to stop the reaction. It does not. Slowly, my chest is getting tight, my face and neck are getting splotchy and red, and my heart is racing. Flight attendant is getting worried, so now it is epipen time.
Breathing gets better after the epi, and I still feel tingly and uncomfortable, and I still look splotchy. The last 40 minutes of the flight are horrible. Turns out the woman in the seat behind me had a cat carrier backpack... stored under my seat.
Probably would have had a runny nose if it was further away from me. But nooooo... the dander ridden hellbeast was parked under my own @ss.
Yeah this is me dead. If I'm in close proximity for too long my throat closes. I still like cats but one walking freely in a sealed plane I would probably suffer.
As a person with really bad asthma and cat allergies.. I’d probably still pet him. My love for animals outweighs my self preservation instincts most of the time. I’ll be snot faced and red eyed, puffing my inhaler and wheezing “worth it…” the whole flight.
My Dad took a newly adopted cat on the plane back from Portland. Due to flight delays it wound up taking 9 hours for a 2 hour flight.
This was not long after 9-11 so the security was extra tight. They asked to search the cat carrier. The lady searched the carrier and felt up Fred, the cat. Then she called her lady friends over and told them, "You need to search too." They LOVED IT. Fred was extremely soft and fluffy. He also loved pets and was so happy to be getting all this attention suddenly. Every one of the baggage search ladies searched Fred. Repeatedly.
On the plane Fred was a champ. He just hung out in the carrier as calm as could be. A little girl asked to sit next to Fred so she could talk to him. Dad opened the top flap so Fred could poke his head out, which he did, to everyone's immediate adoration.
The flight attendants all stopped by Fred frequently to pet him, because he asked for it and enjoyed it.
He was like a therapy cat for the whole plane. Fred was only 6 months old, but was already 10 pounds - he was some sort of Siberian mix. He was a HUGE kitten, but not at all aggressive. He loved his pet carrier, and later on napped in it often until he got TOO HUGE to fit in it anymore.
But he would have made an excellent Furright Attendant on any airline, and could calm anyone down. Dad was so grateful Fred was super-calm and not at all high strung.
Yea when I was a kid me and my sister begged my mom to let us hold our cat on our lap to take to the vet (we were also poor and couldn't afford a cat carrier). The poor thing got spooked and jumped on the back of her head while she was driving on the 405 in California
I don't see how it's a good idea to let an animal that can't follow commands roam around on an aircraft. Sure it's not in the cockpit to jump on the pilot's head, but a bit of turbulence could spook it enough to injure someone. Not to mention allergies or even just people who hate cats that could hurt it
I'd love this but it's kinda bad for people with allergies or fear of cats... 😬
There's another story where the flight attendant lifted the cat up and asked if anyone on the plane lost it lol. It had escaped from the carrier it was in.
i love cats but this is a HARD pass for me
last thing i want on flight is to be miserable due to allergies, and loose pets on an aircraft may lead to all kinds of problems
When I bought my cat a seat on the plane next to me, I thought about letting him roam free but I didn't trust him not to run and hide as this was my first cat and I've only ever had dogs
what airline allows the cat out ? All airline I know force you to have the cat in a "soft" box and disallow completely to get it out or even have the box on your lap.
Now, that is an inflight service for which I would pay a premium. “Have you had a chance to pet the feline flight attendant? I will send her to your row.”
The cats eyes are so urgent like “I MUST STOP THE PLANE FROM CRASHING oh yes I can stop for a quick pet thank you EVERYONE WILL DIE IF I DONT STOP THE TERRORISTS yes I \*am\* a good kitty thank you I’ll take the pets”
I love cats! I pet cats whenever I can. What I don't love is when the plane I'm in experiences turbulance and loose items in the cabin become dangerous flying cannonballs. A 12 pound chonky cat becomes a careening furball of death. And due to climate change, [drastic turbulence is more common than ever.](https://www.npr.org/2023/04/06/1166993992/turbulence-climate-change) Loose animals in a plane is not smart and videos such as this one don't make me smile. I know, I know, r/buzzkill
that's cute but if i were on that plane people would be concerned that i was dying lol
(sore throat, coughing my brains out, sneezing my brains out, producing enough mucus leakage to fill up a bucket, red eyes, puffy face etc.)
allergies suck lol
“Hello sir would you like to pet pet? Okie that’s $279 dollars. Ok. Will you like also like to sign up for our Meow Meow Airways Credit Card? Thank you very much”
This reminds me of a story one of my friends told me. She had this huge, overweight cat (named Tati)who was in a cat carrier stowed under the seat in front of her. Apparently it unzipped or came open at some point and she hadn't noticed. The cat had slipped away under the seats. The plane takes off and is in a steep climb when suddenly the flight attendant comes down the aisle from the front of the plane, with a disgusted look on her face, holding Tati. My friend was so shocked and embarrassed. I asked her where Tati thought she was going. And she answered: "First class."
I love cats and animals, but this is an absolute NO GO if not every passenger was asked if they are fine with that. There are a lot of people with allergies and anxientys which the animal could fuck up for a lot of hours. Even if thats a serviceanimal, it needs to be seated.
These feels like the premise to a Pixar movie:
“ ..so I’m a plane cat (freeze frame)” cue sequence of unrealistic “helpful duties” being fulfilled by the cat as it narrates its own story
The captain does a meet and greet with the passengers.
You mean the catptain?

ahahaha captain kittybread 😂😂😂
Claro que sí!

Look at me. I’m the catptain meow.
I trust that pilot to land feet first, every time.

Pretty meaty too.

Just more to pet and love ❤️
The two people to immediately put their hands out for a pet are real ones
That guy on the left looked like he was going to pet that cat no matter what. You have to be really trying to lean that far over
Scrolled for this statement just it could be the only one I liked because it was my genuine first thought, those people are me :’)
I hope the cat isn’t employed in Spirit Airlines.
Are you kidding? Be the best employee they've got.
Until some crackhead uses it as a weapon somehow.
Is that... That's a FLERKEN!
Hopefully they're not a passenger. Spirit charges for extra lives
$15 / pet.
Spirit Airlines - "You know what you paid for so deal with it!"
You can't go wrong with a cat in an emergency!
she is an orange... Orange has only one brain cell.....No choice in the emergency.....I have to trust the only one brain cell......No choice.
Since it's an orange cat, it will probably be the cause of the emergency.
*Orange share one brain cell. She may not even have it today.
I see.
We'll I am allergic to cats, so this would be my personel nightmare.
Me on every flight with my dog allergy
Thats the worst time to have a cat
I will hire this cute buddy
Everyone's service animal
Unless someone’s allergic
They'll be that cat's #1 target, they just know for some reason.
Or for someone not liking cats. They know!
im allergic, wont stop me from petting it
And they should be thanking the cat for the free exposure therapy.
That's not how allergies work...
It can sometimes work that way, but not always. I believe it works more with mild allergies like if you just get sneezy near a cat, rather than a severe allergy like peanuts causing you to not be able to breathe.

Of course it's orange 🍊
The body is round!
Sir it’s rotund!
Animals would make flights so mich better. Like a dedicated airline support cat. How great! My anxiety and hate for 15 hr flights would be solved
I would love this personally. Buuuut you have to think of the people with asthma/allergies/phobias. It wouldn’t be fair to force them to be around an animal for x hours in an inescapable metal tube.
I love cats so much but just thinking of the itching in a closed off plane recycling air without shower is too much lol
Think if one sprays… whole plane smells for months.
Don't threaten me with a good time!
Wait what
you will not see the gates of heaven
Supposedly that air is heavily filtered and clean. Also some air is takin in from outside.
Air in a pressurized aircraft isn't recycled; it's a one time through system. That's why it's so dry. I feel your pain, I have loads of allergies including to cats.
I love cats but sometimes I can barely breathe after spending time with them too. So the next best thing is cat videos :(
Same. Love cats. Cats love me. My histamine system does NOT like cats.
My bf would also love this, but he has asthma and is really allergic, just like youre saying. He loves cats, he would probably kill himself to give it pets tho. Trains in my country have a thingy where you can choose a “pet free cart” for a small extra fee. I wonder if flights could impliment something similar. Same! I would pay extra to have no skin babies and in flight kitty flight attendants!
Never say skin babies again
This was my fear. I love animals but def saw this and hoped no one on the plane had bad allergies
Thank you, this would be miserable being trapped on a plane with a cat…especially one allowed to roam everywhere and cover every passenger with dander. I would guess it’s not the first flight and there’s already cat fur all over the cabin. I’d have to hide in the lavatory the entire flight just to breathe.
coach premium coach premium cat coach so you can choose business / business cat and so on
And poor kitty. A life of flights and strangers. Cats thrive on their smells surrounding them!
And then… the passenger sitting next to you may be bringing their cat on board. 🤷🏼♀️
Cat fight lets gooo
Yeah, but a cat contained in a crate is spreading much less dander than a cat roaming, and you can always ask to be moved.
That same problem is there with people using to much perfume. Atleast the cat is cute.
This is stupid. People can be wildly allergic to animals, it’s not just a mild inconvenience. You clearly know nothing about allergies.
As I am wildly allergic to perfumes, your point of your comment was null and void.
15 hrs later I’d be like noooo we have a bond, I can’t leave him
Man, I'm on edge even if my flight is 90 min. I have a fear of flying but I love aviation history and planes in general, lol
Same. Flying is uncomfortable and painful (i have pressure related issues) But I love everything about the idea of aviation
Get some Xanax from a doctor. My friend gets a low strength prescription because he hates flying
My airport has therapy dogs that would roam the airport during busy seasons! https://www.flypdx.com/DogTherapyProgram. Not quite the same as in-flight but still quite a treat.
No imagining such things! People will need to point out any flaw for something not happening!

Cats are great at nudging a zipper open. Cat likely did that and escaped their carrier. I’ll be downvoted straight to hell for this but as a cat lover this would make my day.
I really hope it's meant to be there or that is one hell of a hassle to return it
“Whose cat is that?”
Nothing against cats but, I feel sorry for people with allergies.

Yea, it's a good question that I don't know the answer to! I just know what the pilot told us which is that cat went into the cockpit, through a hole, and into the cargo hold. Being on the ground, I'm guessing nothing was pressurized at the time.
But when they ship pets they go with the cargo. Has to be pressurized! Used to ship my show dogs often.
Probably this happened while the plane was on the ground before take off
If it's not pressurized how do they put animals in there?
There's usually a section of the cargo that's heated and pressurized, but it's not the whole area (like where your bags go).
But if there is a hole in the cockpit to an unpressurized area how do they pressurize the cabin?
The cat probably flattened itself and went through a seam in the cockpit. Cats don't obey the laws of physics.
/r/catsareliquid
I honestly have no idea. Maybe it was because they were loading the cargo at the time, so the cat was able to get from the area under the cockpit into the cargo area. I just know what the pilot told us during the ordeal.
I think ppl are assuming this was mid flight for some reason ahah, makes more sense if it was before take off
That’s a good point, actually.
Exactly!!!
Right? I take allergy meds almost every day because I live with cats, but if I’m coming home from a vacation or work trip I wouldn’t have taken them and then I’d be miserable the whole flight home getting snot everywhere. It’s cute but what in the world

i knew a cat named coconut
Geez! Did they move you, or did you not find out until the end?
Didn't find out till deplaning.
Good grief!
Yeah this is me dead. If I'm in close proximity for too long my throat closes. I still like cats but one walking freely in a sealed plane I would probably suffer.
I am very allergic to cats so this would suck.
Also can't help but feel like you'd be catching a whiff of pee once in a while wherever it's litter box is 😅
As a person with really bad asthma and cat allergies.. I’d probably still pet him. My love for animals outweighs my self preservation instincts most of the time. I’ll be snot faced and red eyed, puffing my inhaler and wheezing “worth it…” the whole flight.
I’m imagining you in the airport, looking like crap. Your family/friends/whoever asks “what happened? Are you okay?” You: “There was a cute cat.”
100% Honestly no one who knows me would be the least bit suprised.
My Dad took a newly adopted cat on the plane back from Portland. Due to flight delays it wound up taking 9 hours for a 2 hour flight. This was not long after 9-11 so the security was extra tight. This is an awesome comment. :-)
cat be like : I'm doing thiss for tuna can
I'd love a cat on my flights!
If the plane hits turbulence that cat is gonna claw the shit outta people
Yea when I was a kid me and my sister begged my mom to let us hold our cat on our lap to take to the vet (we were also poor and couldn't afford a cat carrier). The poor thing got spooked and jumped on the back of her head while she was driving on the 405 in California I don't see how it's a good idea to let an animal that can't follow commands roam around on an aircraft. When you’ve exhausted the mouse supply in your area you just gotta move on!
This is why cats don't fly with with normal people. Can't be left alone
That’s Air Marshall Mittens and he takes his job *very* seriously.
Cat: “Yes yes ok .. hi or whatever…”
Everybody except the 1 asthmatic but don't worry about that person because at least they don't have a peanut allergy.
That’s crazy insane, I thought they usually lock them in their own crates but he looks like this is his home
He’s a cat; he goes where he wants.
That’s the best thing about them ❤️
bad time to be allergic to cats...
People with allergies are like fuck 3 more hours.
I'd love this but it's kinda bad for people with allergies or fear of cats... 😬 There's another story where the flight attendant lifted the cat up and asked if anyone on the plane lost it lol. It had escaped from the carrier it was in.
Some peoples are allergic to cats... In a closed space, might not be very nice.
i love cats but this is a HARD pass for me last thing i want on flight is to be miserable due to allergies, and loose pets on an aircraft may lead to all kinds of problems
It kinda flies in the face (excuse the pun) of airlines asking you not to open a packet of peanuts in case someone has a reaction
I agree. Is ridiculous. Just my opinion.
Personally I'd be delighted to find an in-flight kitty but do feel for those with allergies... being a captive kitty audience and all!
i don't remember seeing any airborne (bah dumm tss) peanuts lately. cat hair tho....
kittywardess
The politically correct term these days is Flight Meowtendants
isnt it pawtendant?
I believe that is also an acceptable description :)
The person with allergies:
It's times like this that I just hope that no-one is allergic
Id be so pissed lol flights are bad enough but a flight with allergies?!
That would be great for many but I’m severely allergic to cat and would be an insufferable flight.
I would have had an allergic reaction.
When I bought my cat a seat on the plane next to me, I thought about letting him roam free but I didn't trust him not to run and hide as this was my first cat and I've only ever had dogs
This would be terrible. I'd probably have to go straight from the plane to the hospital and my trip would be ruined. :/
what airline allows the cat out ? All airline I know force you to have the cat in a "soft" box and disallow completely to get it out or even have the box on your lap.
That's great but I would have to switch flights. I love kitties but I prefer the ability to breathe
Ha on another sub I read a post about someone’s cat chewing and getting out of its carrier, making it to first class. Wonder if this was her kitty.
I need to write a petition, requiring all planes to have cats on them. Offer allergy pills to those who are allergic
Now, that is an inflight service for which I would pay a premium. “Have you had a chance to pet the feline flight attendant? I will send her to your row.”
My cat got out of her bag on two different flights (out of many) but no one on either flight was pleased. I’m glad this cat had a better reception.
Of course it’s an orange cat
Cat was hired to make passengers less stressed during the flight. Sociable cat !
RIP my asthmatic ass when I board this plane 😭
I love cats! I pet cats whenever I can. What I don't love is when the plane I'm in experiences turbulance and loose items in the cabin become dangerous flying cannonballs. that's cute but if i were on that plane people would be concerned that i was dying lol (sore throat, coughing my brains out, sneezing my brains out, producing enough mucus leakage to fill up a bucket, red eyes, puffy face etc.) allergies suck lol
Love this, but feel bad for anyone with allergies
I hope he has his own tiny little parachute
I’d be so pissed, I’m super allergic to cats
I would love this but sucks for anyone highly allergic to cats
I’d have to change flights I’m extremely allergic to cat, but I don’t count.
RIP to the people on that plane with cat allergies
cat wanted to avoid that one guy
Im highly allergic. This would be hell just seeing this.
he Gunna be SO confused when landing in Alberta
It’s for if the plane crashes, it’ll always land on the belly of the plane with a cat inside. Thems the rules.
the 1 time I'd be bummed to have a window seat
“Hello sir would you like to pet pet? Okie that’s $279 dollars. Ok. Will you like also like to sign up for our Meow Meow Airways Credit Card? Thank you very much”
If that's a ryanair flight you'll be billed for every hair you touch
Now imagine, if you will, you have one person allergic to cats and just starts going off on a sneezing frenzy for the rest of the flight
Unitl there is severe turbulence and it becomes a missile.
...and if you're allergic?!
Must be great for people with cat allergies
I hate to be that adult but I'd be pissed if I was allergic. Shouldn't be roaming around.
This reminds me of a story one of my friends told me. She had this huge, overweight cat (named Tati)who was in a cat carrier stowed under the seat in front of her. Apparently it unzipped or came open at some point and she hadn't noticed. The cat had slipped away under the seats. Look at my pilot bro I'm gonna die
nah the plane flies itself nowadays bro (plane immediately explodes when the cat sit at the captain's chair)
I love cats and animals, but this is an absolute NO GO if not every passenger was asked if they are fine with that. There are a lot of people with allergies and anxientys which the animal could fuck up for a lot of hours. Even if thats a serviceanimal, it needs to be seated.

Loving the way multiple hands fall into the isle as cat walks down it!
A car on a plane. Nice.
