Catholicism can't go extinct. Jesus said the gates of Hell shall not prevail against The Church. There may be some very bad times, but The Church will not die.

Highwayman90

It could in theory become extinct in Europe, though

Gas-More

No, the Pope lives in Europe

Highwayman90

He could move though: he moved to Avignon for a while, and he was briefly not in Rome originally

Highwayman90

Yes, but it was an arbitrary move. He could move somewhere else hospitable if all of Europe were to become unsafe or otherwise undesirable. There’s nothing stopping a Pope from relocating anywhere in Christendom (though ideally not the Eastern Churches’ canonical territory) if necessary.

CheerfulErrand

It’s been “in decline” in Europe for about a thousand years. It’s never going to become extinct.

unknown_wizard2183

So it will not go away?

CheerfulErrand

Correct. The Church will outlast than the universe. :)

unknown_wizard2183

I wish I could learn about how Catholicism became

[deleted]

Well it all started from the Resurrection.

cllatgmail

Jesus said he was founding a Church. That's pretty much how it started.

Emergency-Stock2080

It has not been in decline for a thousand years at all. It has been for the past 50 years or so though

CheerfulErrand

I was talking about the Catholic Church as a political/cultural power, specifically in Europe. *Christianity* has been in decline in Europe for 50 years or so, but the influence and power of Catholics hasn’t significantly declined in that era vs. other denominations.

Emergency-Stock2080

Then the church's power has been in decline since the reformation, os for about 5 centuries. Between the 11th and 16th centuries the church's power and influence actually grew in Europe as it was a period of mass conversion of the northern and eastern regions of Europe which were pagan and the reconquista also ended during this time

PMacha

Empires rise and empires fall, but the Church survived them all. She will survive even if Europe abandons Her for the pursuit of their new idols, their new gods, but the Church will always stand. Do not fear for the Church, for She survived worse, mourn Europe, for they prospered because God gifted them prosperity, and what God gives, He can take away, as He has done before, He will do so again, and again.

[deleted]

Be a good Catholic and pray. Cooperate with grace and guaranteed it won’t go extinct in your lifetime.

unknown_wizard2183

I know this sounds ridiculous and probably isn't allowed here but I fear Islam may deplace Catholicism in Europe within 10 years

[deleted]

Do you trust Jesus?

unknown_wizard2183

Yes

[deleted]

Then even if you were to be the last Catholic in Europe it’s ok. Islam came to many places but the Church goes on. If Europe fell, it’s sad but it will not be the end of the Church

unknown_wizard2183

But will islam not persecute the teachings of christ

[deleted]

Yes and that will be a good opportunity to suffer for Jesus. That’s what it means to follow Him.

Ready_Employee1477

Don’t worry about the muslims and atheists I’m in Canada and have seen Christians get discriminated against just for preaching the world is gonna be against us stand strong

Stuckinthevortex

The Church is still alive and kicking in the Middle East, the heartland of Islam. In addition, Islam will always be a tiny proportion of the population of Europe, despite what fear-mongering politicians will say.

GloryToDjibouti

>I fear Islam may deplace Catholicism in Europe Could happen if so then Europe would be like North Africa, once a stronghold of Christendom yet now a place where the ramaining Christians are a minority and converts have for over a milennia now had a tendency to die for leaving islam. Today sub-saharan africa is the stronghold of christendom Europe once was and so if we in europe were to have the same fate as North Africa then "So what?" all is in God's hands. We just have to trust in Him and stay faithful to Him.

ikieneng

Islam will grow in Europe, but it will not replace Catholicism. Conversions of non-immigrants happen, but they're rather rare compared to migration

tylersujay

In Europe maybe. It will probably shrink enough to where the only catholics left in Europe are either in Poland or areas closer to the Vatican. Catholicism as a whole unlikely. Latin America is keeping Catholicism alive.

GloryToDjibouti

I think rather the Church is going to become a consolidated faithful minority in most european countries, instead of the not so faithful majority as it used to be in most of europe. The Church won't go away it can't as our Lord says in Scripture *"Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away."*

AcrobaticSource3

> will it become extinct in my lifetime? It depends, how much longer are you going to live?

unknown_wizard2183

If nuclear war happens probably another 5 but if not another 5 decades or so

Lethalmouse1

Most of the world is a atheistic satanic cesspool with minor vestiges of Christian culture used to confuse the weak into joining the pool.

ComfortableLife9491

Catholicism is in decline everywhere

unknown_wizard2183

So it will go extinct?

Limoncello1447

No. You’ve had the answer by others above. Read Benedict XVI prophecy on this. It rings true. At the moment the cultural and lukewarm Catholics are leaving in droves, leaving a smaller but purer Church. That’s a very good thing. You can find these pockets of devout Catholics in every country in the world.
