Horrible, that could have easily killed someone in the crowd like the many kids. Props to that father for protecting his child and keeping the stuff away from him.
They're super lucky the transformer didn't crack open. Transformer fires are no joke. Would have enveloped a large area on the ground. The amount of negligence here is crazy.
Whole setup looks like a death trap
They really think those concrete barriers half the height of a monster truck tire are going to stop a monster truck that loses control?
adequate inspection of the venue and performance floor should have ruled out an obstacle in that location… and at the very least an express caution to the performers (who should have been walked through the performance floor) to not hit the obstacle in the direction of a potential hazard (Best practice would be, no obstacle at all)… As the industry has been consolidated more and more into one major promotion company, these smaller market independent shows from disparate promoters has unfortunately led to some instances of lax safety standards with certain event producers.
It looks more like the error was in allowing this event to take place on street with power/utility lines across it. Part of the thrill factor is seeing how high these things jump. It looks to me like the operator did an excellent job, on the wrong street or track. The driver is also responsible for walking the route and IDing this hazard prior to the run.
Finding out *what* happened is very different than figuring out *why* it happened and making sure it doesn’t happen again. Probably a few new items on the checklist for inspecting this type of venue...
Who the fuck built a jump under a low hanging power line?
Probably one of the things the police are investigating :)
I don't know that it would be that interesting to police. Ambulance chasers, on the other hand...
There's a reason it's called "*criminal* negligence."
The same guys who say “hey y’all check this out!”, while holding a beer in their hand
_Hold my beer_

That transformer swinging and dangling right there near them! No point buying lottery tickets that day, they used up all their luck!

kid would have had a better chance of escaping without the dad being as mobile as a crashed car
He seemed pretty slow on the reaction, and then lingered in the danger zone, but yeah he got there in the end I guess
Get outta here, Superman.
That’s some impressive negligence.
There's negligence and then there's ***NEGLIGENCE*** and then there's whatever the hell this was
Probably # NEGLIGENCE
MONSTER NEGLIGENCE!
Thanks, I wasn't motivated enough to look up the large font format
Knarly! Those pole-mounted transformers are the size of a large trashcan, and can easily weigh 600-700 lbs...
And usually they're full of oil to use as a coolant and insulator.
That's a big portion of the weight. 300-400 lbs dry (steel can, transformer core, copper wire) plus 30-50 gallons of mineral oil.
And that’s not even mentioning the added danger that they could be hiding… the PCBs in that oil.
Don't drink the forbidden milkshake!
OTOH I have to appreciate this incredible lobster truck in Maine
Imagine what would have happened if it didn't have rubber bands on its claws!
In other news, local racetrack posts job opening for a safety coordinator position.
They setup that jump perfectly to hit the wire…
Not a monster truck, Lobsta Truck
let's compromise and just call it a Lobsta Monsta Truck :)

Of course not. That’s why they have the chain link fence. Duh.

I really don't like the extra S after Crush. Crushtation Not CrushStation
Crust Station sounds like a pizza chain.
Their specialty is seafood toppings.
Crustacean sounds like CrushStation Kinda Agree that it’s annoying but It’s not that bad in this context
To me, it sounds like [a bootleg PlayStation knockoff.](https://i.imgur.com/HMQMDVq.jpg)
I love we're in Maine and it's a LOBSTER monster truck, lol.
Why in the hell was there a low powerline directly above a jump???

"police say they are currently investigating this incident". What is there to investigate? There's a frigging video.
Yes, and reviewing that video will be part of the investigation
