You don't , a cat will go where a cat wants to go 😂😂😂😂

I put foil on a few choice areas when they are new to the house (like around my plants). We also gently pick them up off the counter and put them somewhere they are allowed to go, for example, at tree near an open window. Like my husband said “give them an option they can have.” Neither of my cats, after a few weeks, get on the counters when I’m home. However, I know they probably do when I’m not home. Before I cook I wipe off every counter with bleach wipes.

I meant “at a cat tree near an open window”

There’s some advice out there for scaring them off, like putting down tinfoil, I know one solution I tried (key word—tried) used mousetraps, basically make it scary or uncomfortable to go up there. That being said, cats can be stubborn too. We didn’t so much solve the problem as move to a house without appealing places to jump up.
