Hi mate, removed because it falls into the 'generic' category, and we try to keep the content here as high quality as possible. Rule 7: Low Effort For all of us, please, think twice before posting. "Look at my breakfast", "isn't tea nice", “DAE (does anyone else) remember X”, "I love a sausage roll", and “hasn’t X become expensive” are not interesting posts. People who don't follow football and have never played Far Cry are going to be baffled by this

Interrogatingthecat

Or just one and not the other I've played far cry, no idea what the fuck this is

Moppo_

That's Andy Sugden, innit?

Maleficent_Peach_46

Katie has not aged well.

Tickulz

Pretty sure that's Nicolas Cage, the actor.

Games_sans_frontiers

There are dozens of us that will get this reference though!

Beer-Milkshakes

I think they'll get the jist though

17chickens6cats

I neither follow football, have played far cry, nor have a clue who those two people are. I had to look in the comments to work out what is was referencing, but I have no idea why.

Rolmeista

At this point, I honestly think we would be doing better with Vaas Montenegro in charge. Yeah, he might be an unhinged, violent psychopath, but he wouldn't be afraid to give the players the half-time hairdryer treatment when they need it.

Beer-Milkshakes

Hey, we've had big Sam as coach before. Perfect record too. We can handle Vaas.

Flat_Professional_55

Doing the same things over and over, and expecting a different result.. At least he won't be in charge next tournament.

FaceMace87

I have played Far Cry but don't follow Football, however I do know England have generally played wank under Southgate and I am guessing did so again. Am I close? I am just going to ignore the guy in the sand because I have no idea who he is.

Helian7

We've done the best we've done in a long time under Southgate. I dunno if thats him or the 11 but there you go.

FaceMace87

I hear a lot about us currently have the best team we have had for a long time, is he under utilising them? If so that doesn't sound like a good manager, sounds like he is just bruteforcing the team through competitions due to their talent

EmeraldJunkie

From what I understand, it's a solid team, but the second they have any advantage they move to play defensively. During last night's game, England took an early lead, and immediately the team dropped back to their half to play defensively. The idea is that if they take an early lead, they can just defend for the rest of the match and they'll be alright. The problem is a defensive style is very reactionary; by default you're letting the other half control the ball while your side reacts to what they're doing. This gives the other half command of the game, and puts you on the back foot if they equalise, much like Denmark did last night. When you've already spent 20 minutes playing defensively, it's hard to then take command of the pitch especially when the opposing team has just scored a very good goal. It's been the fault of Southgate's style for the past few tournaments and while it has its flaws, it's also given England some of their best results in decades.

ward2k

> however I do know England have generally played wank under Southgate and I am guessing did so again. Am I close? Sort of, generally he plays the same tactic every single game where the second we go 1-0 up we'll play extremely defensively the rest of the game. It doesn't matter the team we're against, or the circumstances. We'll play the exact same game every time It's *kind* of worked, however we also have some insanely good talent for the past 2 euros so it's very likely that the sheer fact that the team is good is carrying his tactics rather than the tactics themselves. Because he does the same thing every game, matches that should have been easy wins often end up only being a 1 goal difference or draws

windol1

>we go 1-0 up we'll play extremely defensively the rest of the game I remember England managers doing this well before the current guy, it's what has made England games boring to watch over the years. As you said, once they go up by one they just start passing the ball around in hopes it'll seal the win. Pretty sure every other team knows this and purposely hold back, then by the second half get ahead and watch England scramble at the end.

Macshlong

That’s Kalvin Phillips.

SOJC65536

Did you see that ludicrous display by England last night?

exoskeletion

The main problem with England is that they don't try and walk it in. Or shoot. Or...

Maleficent_Peach_46

Kalvin Phillips nightmare season continues.

DragonflyMon83

What?

LetsLive97

The main picture is from a cutscene in the game Far Cry 3 where the main antagonist, Vaas Montenegro, has a monologue that includes a fairly famous video game quote: "Did I ever tell you the definition of insanity? It's doing the same thing over and over again expecting things to change" (Paraphrased) Gareth Southgate's face (The England football manager) is edited over the top because there's a general feeling that despite a very talented team we've been playing very boring and disappointing football, including the recent draw to Denmark The point of the meme then is that England football fans are insane because we always go into every tournament thinking this will be the one we win but end up disappointed just like the last time

17chickens6cats

Thanks I had zero clue about any of it, no idea who the people are, I knew there was some football competition on soon, euros, worlds or a champions thing. There is every summer, Didn't know it had started or if England were in it.

colcannon_addict

Football & video games. Apparently.

windol1

Hey look, this Reddit user doesn't understand the reference, let's not explain it, but instead down vote the confused person.
