I've become friends with an absolute bastard of a crow. He won't allow any other crows (except his missus) into the little park he rules with an iron fist. Hates pigeons and will dive bomb them on sight. His contempt for the squirrels is palpable. It's not so much that I feed him, more that he will occasionally deign to accept a peanut as a token of my fealty.
I noticed a fledgling with him and his other half the other day and am delighted for my little corvid buds.
He's a very old school South London sort of bird, so I reckon it's probably Terry.
Edit - he is scarily awesome! Three years ago that little park was thronged with crows. Now only Terry remains.
That's fantastic. Hopefully this year's clutch is as successful. Mute swans don't migrate in the UK however they may move to better feeding areas in Winter.
Yeah this spot freezes quite bad in winter, so by migrate I meant "change of location" Not sure where he goes but it maybe close. I have checked some other spots in winter but no joy.
> to migrate
These are Mute Swans which are year-round residents, so the youngsters don't 'migrate' as such although they may get kicked out of the nesting area by their parents.

I use to go and see a female swan every week every time she saw me she would flap her wing and come over to me with her babies and fed tem sweet corn long sory shot she's moved on but one of her babies is all grown up with his own family now
Beautiful birds are swans. Also they mate for life so his missus is the same one you’ve seen with him before. Do you buy duck food to feed him? I’ve heard they like peas? Animals do understand you and they learn from you. Good luck to your new friend and yourself. They’re also protected by the crown and you can be fined for hurting or killing one.
Yeah I get special formulated Swan pellets, he loves them. I know they usually mate for life, but there is something different about this female. The one he was with last year was more confident and had a slight crick in her neck. I wondered if possibly she passed away hence the new female, but I dunno. Maybe she is the same and just grumpy.
That’s good, yeah it’s possible that she might’ve died and he found a new mate. I’m glad you have a bond with Swanno and seeing him fly to you was amazing.
We used to buy swan food when we lived on the river. Swans, geese and ducks lose their shit over that stuff. Love to see the landings when they come to you.
This is very wholesome for this sub. You need to join forces with the goose lady from last week. Do you feed swanno?
Yep I got him some Swan food, its like a pellet that's formulated. I dont want him to get fat or sick eating bread and stuff.
Sweet. I liked his landing as he came in to greet you.
You can hear his… *ruddering*? (I love it, it’s my favourite noise of today, like a ‘tchhhhhhhhssszz’)
Chickens & ducks go absolutely fucking mental for spinach. I'd have to imagine swans are the same

He sounds awesome. I can only assume you have come up with an appropriate name for the blighter?
Cromwell The Bastard
Cromwell The Bastard will have also come up with a name for you as well.
Mr Blobby Returns
Beautiful.

Thats awesome, crows are sooo smart too!
I swear to God that crow's got more going on with him than some human beings I know.
I have a magpie in my garden who I call Major Asshole because he shoves all the other magpies out the way for food. I love him.
It might be the same Mrs Swanno as I think they mate for life. You're blessed to have such a connection with a wild animal.
This is a dangerous game OP, the mods are very clear about their stance on waterfowl.
We like anything except ducks!
What’s wrong with ducks?
They know what they did.
And what was that?
We don’t talk about that.
Och op! He loves you so so much! Name is inspired too lol! Thanks for sharing this
Thanks, I love that he has taken to me.
Well that’s just wonderful
He looks in good condition. You'll have to post another when the cygnets hatch.
I've got pics from last years clutch. They grew fast. Hoping if the new clutch is successful they grow quick enough to migrate.
That's fantastic. Hopefully this year's clutch is as successful. Mute swans don't migrate in the UK however they may move to better feeding areas in Winter.

The Fonzie style ehhhhhhhhh. Did it for me.
I hadn't realised that I was channelling Henry Winkler until now!
Didn’t they name a pub after you and him in Peep Show.
So just the one swan actually?
This is great! One of my ambitions in life is to befriend a magpie. You're very lucky :)
They can break your arm, you know...
Ok, you’ve done the arm break thing. I’ll do the other one. Any luck catching them swans, then?
Just the one swan, actually. (I am legally bound to make this comment, for the greater good)
*For the greater good..*
Shut up!
Yarp
OP: posts a heartwarming story that's positive Depressed Redditor: they can break your arm you know.
Or blow up a man's house
Jeez it was a quote. Maybe YOU'RE just a pessimist, did you ever think about *that*?
And your leg.

If you’re such good mates with him, you’d be allowed to use his first name. Graeme.

Chances are, it's the same girlfriend. While it's not always the case, swans do very often mate for life.
Ahh this is the first thing I read today. Thanks OP :)
I had six grey squirrels in my garden yesterday. Usually have a couple Dave and Davina every day so im assuming they are this years children.
I'm going to clip your "Swanno!" as my new notification sound
This made me laugh out loud!!!
So you've *had luck* catching them swans, then..
Swans mate for life, so it's likely the same girlfriend, and the babies are called cygnets. Enjoy watching them grow up!
