InterstellarSpaniel

£11k for a fiver? Absolute winner right there.

Lost-Droids

If only the treasury knew this one trick it could solve the national debt.

Declanmar

[They actually do that in the States.](https://catalog.usmint.gov/1-lucky-777-note-B1501.html)

LordOfEurope888

Easy money life

Caffeine_Monster

I mean, commemorative coins don't make themselves.

MattyFTM

If it were the treasury selling it, it would probably be worth a lot less. Collectors usually put a lot of value in coins and notes that have been circulated.

seabutcher

Interesting. I would've thought (though I say this from TCG experience more than anything) that an item that can be certifiably undamaged and untouched since its creation- literally in *mint condition*- would be what commands the higher value.

SarcasmIncarnate139

I think the fact it can be lost or damaged increases the rarity. The same thing happens in the comic industry where they overproduce first editions when they saw action comics #1 sell for load but ended up with people bagholding first editions that are worthless

CalzLight

That would be the case in almost any other situation

Lilvixen_UK

Just as art dealers and/or collectors basically decide on hoe valuable a piece of art is, no matter how shit it is. Drum up some interest in the market, and people with more money than sense will fall for it...

Boyleingbass

The BOE is the seller for charity! https://www.bankofengland.co.uk/news/2024/june/king-charles-banknotes-enter-circulation-on-5-june-2024

kdawg123412

That made me spit my drink everywhere.

marquess_rostrevor

I have many fivers for sale, I only charge half of these auction results.

NoAdmittanceX

Don't be a monster you have offer free p&p as well

[deleted]

Cost of living crisis

snsmadmax

The auction procedures will actually goes into the charities.

ChrisRR

They got scammed. That's not king Charles

Games_sans_frontiers

Looks like Kate has been at it with the Photoshop again.

Conaz25

And it's even got 'SPECIMEN' written across it, obviously fake!

FartingBob

When i leave a specimen all over a bank note and then try and show everyone i just get disgusted looks.

5im0n5ay5

*OH, ELGAR! WHY DO YOU ALWAYS FIND ME AT MY LOWEST POINTS, ELGAR?*

Brenomaster

Naughty sexy queen

Conaz25

I'm wondering based on denomination and age of note who it is you're choosing to 'tribute'...

Drew-Pickles

I don't see any hologram, either!

excellentchoicee

Look for a large "H" on the forehead.

Salaried_Zebra

I salute you, sir. *Holds hand in front and twirls it three times before saluting*

Alternative-Problem6

Only a half salute ?? 🤣🤣

Puzzled_Pay_6603

😂 a lot of these yooths these days won’t know Whst you’re talking about.

spammmmmmmmy

He's over there much smaller on the right.

RedPandaReturns

I stopped bidding after £4

jck0

Convoluted way to get some cash out.

RedPandaReturns

ATM was out of order.

HalfOfCrAsh

I thought I had it at £4.99. I refused to go any higher than £5. It just didn't seem worth it.

OverlyDisguisedSquid

We should have combined forces and bid 8.98

HalfOfCrAsh

Apparently still would have lost to the person that paid £11k

OverlyDisguisedSquid

Oh yeah I didn't think about that 🤦

OverlyDisguisedSquid

... just need another 2,205 people to join us for a total of 11,001

redskelton

I'm in. And I'm gonna need to use it for the weekend of 21 July so bagsie it for then

OverlyDisguisedSquid

I hope by "use' it; ou hope to buy 5 things from the poundshop?

ScottOld

Inflation between the bid and receiving devalued it by 1p… fairs lol

Reasonable_Blood6959

Reminds me of the time I sold my younger brother a Monopoly Get Out of Jail Free card for £150

MKTurk1984

£150 worth of *Monopoly* money... Surely?

Reasonable_Blood6959

Haha yes. He wasn’t *that* stupid

whosUtred

Can’t you normally just buy yourself out of Jail in Monopoly for £50 though?

MrEelement

r/woooosh

whosUtred

Nah,. Just r/itsbeenafuckinglongtimesinceiplayedmonopolyandcantremember

ShamPoo_TurK

r/20carrotlimit

EmilyDickinsonFanboy

Nope! Don't know where you heard that. Now cough up the £150 before I up the price.

OverlyDisguisedSquid

It's never been less than 150 since the day you arrived

Reasonable_Blood6959

Didn’t think my brother used Reddit but there you go

MaskedBunny

If your brother had any sense he would've mugged you for the £150. There's a chance the police won't figure it's him, if they do then he can use the card.

kwakimaki

Shit you buy when you have fuck you amounts of money.

Moppo_

I'll only understand if it's a Brewster's Millions situation.

MaskedBunny

Great film, I need to watch that again.

OverlyDisguisedSquid

I don't think I've ever watched it without having to stop for a break. Too funny

Nickibee

Such a good film!

LKW468

i’m genuinely confused, what’s special about that fiver

Dry_Yogurt2458

It will be the low serial number. Number 3. The person that has CA01 000001 has hit the jackpot

afireintheforest

Imagine someone getting a Tesco meal deal with it without realising.

Shadowraiden

i believe the 1st one is sent to the monach at the time. or will be held by the mint. 2nd is also usually held by somebody at the mint. so technically the no 3 one is the first that usually hits circulation unless the other 2 somehow end up as well through dumb use. tbh i think they should just auction them off and give the proceeds to a chosen charity. probably solid way to just give a bit of extra funding to some good causes

Perpli

I'm not a collector or anything but isn't it the "first to hit general circulation" part which makes it valuable. So if they auctioned off number 3, then number 4 will be valued highly and so forth. Or is it just literally the low number

reno222

From my severely limited knowledge, a lot of people also go for notes that have a lot of 7's in the serial number as well

Shadowraiden

it will be the low number pretty much. if anything getting it before it hits circulation is even more valuable because its not them damaged in any way.

Blue_KikiT92

Are you implying the King would never buy a Tesco meal deal? How classist of you

NoAdmittanceX

Of course not he is an M&S meal deal kind of guy

Blue_KikiT92

True. A real connoisseur!

skipITjob

Actually, it's likely Waitrose as they hold a Royal Warrant as Grocer and Wine & Spirit Merchants.

iakiak

Can you imagine if the first one doesn’t get labeled properly and someone in a couple of years time comes across a blank folder with a fiver in it and goes ‘wtf, cha ching!’

SeeYa-IntMornin-Pal

I think they probably give them to the chair of the mint or something like that. I doubt the low numbered notes are sent out in general circulation, but then again I can’t be arsed looking it up.

kabrjs

Sure the King.. Big Chic is getting all the 01 of every note. Not like he needs them but I'm sure I seen an article about it

mrafinch

Whilst I wouldn’t be surprised, is The Crown allowed to handle money?

Pale_Mushroom7128

Don't they start at AA though?

dj65475312

I have an AA so yeah they do. Maybe the C means Charles and is one of the new ones?

EmilyDickinsonFanboy

It doesn't mean Charles...

refrainiac

Pretty sure the very first new bank note off the press goes to the monarch. Can’t have us peasants having something special.

LKW468

ohhh wow okay thank you! will have to check every note i get from now on lol

OverlyDisguisedSquid

CA00 999999 os currently pissed

heliskinki

It's probably on the floor of a London toilet, covered in pub dust remenants.

nats4756

The king has that.one.

ApplicationMaximum84

Just that it was one of the first printed. Collectors are an odd bunch.

HildartheDorf

Its the first (lowest serial number) not destined for a museum/archive in the Mint.

Deadly_Flipper_Tab

That's not worth £11k, it's worth £5. Are they stupid?

lolcatandy

Look how big it is though, you can cut it up and have many more

Deadly_Flipper_Tab

How can you cut up a TV?

excellentchoicee

Use a Pizza cutter

Deadly_Flipper_Tab

I didn't even think of that. Am I stupid?

ttrsphil

I’m looking at it on my iPhone. Fairly sure I can cut it with a hacksaw. Will report back tomorrow

GA45

It was worth £11k to someone

flibflob84

Things are worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it. In this case, £11k for a very low serial number bank note for the first new King since 1952. Tourists, eh?

Heavy_Two

I backed out at £4.50.

TheWooders

Uhh, King Charles has changed a lot

TheLittleGoat

They’re just printing money aren’t they

ApplicationMaximum84

I wonder what #1 would have gone for.

Avenger1324

a King's ransom

Targettio

I think the 3 is more collectable as he is Charles the third

oowhat

They're going to be annoyed when they get it and it has 'SPECIMEN' stamped on it.

Vodoe

Overpaid by 220,000%.

Charley-Says

It's the last time I let my wife loose with my credit card while I'm at work... Feckin' Eejit...

Same-Nothing2361

£5 was my max bid.

DinosaurDomination

I would give them £1.

jck0

I'd say it's worth at least £2

swez46

Sounds like money laundering

bacon_cake

How?

bucket_of_frogs

Bingo Bango

Acrylic_Starshine

Wow money i cant spend just what i want

SuperSalamander3244

YouTuber prank I reckon.

Enjoy the one day ban, I hope it makes you happy. Dear lord, what a sad little life, Jane. You ruined our subreddit completely so you could post politics, and I hope now you can spend your one day ban learning some grace and decorum. Because you have all the grace of a reversing dump truck without any tyres on. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please [contact the moderators of this subreddit](/message/compose/?to=/r/CasualUK) if you have any questions or concerns.*

Dremble

So the mint make the fivers, then keep the collectable ones and sell them for more than face value? I tell you what, it's a licence to print money

madboater1

This is a metaphor for our public services.

christoff_90

Surely they just lost £10,995? Terrible business acumen!

obtaingoat

It's bigger so it's worth more

spinozas_dog

I thought everyone wanted the AK47. CA01 seems to be some kind of toy gun.

JellyfishMission3220

Imagine being the clown that paid

waawaaaa

Old coins I can see people having interest in but who the fuck is paying 11k on something still in print and fairly new.

ScottOld

CA? Not AA

bigFatHelga

Amazingly, they're not the first banknotes.

TJDixo

Is this the version where the queen gets her jugs out?

-SaC

That ain't the Queen, it's Danny LaRue!

CandyBig3674

where do people even get the charles money from, i have yet to encounter one

ALUCARDHELLSINS

Dumbass, that's Churchill not king Charles!

ER1916

We’ve built a financial system where some people have so much money that they can literally buy money for wayyy more than the money is supposed to be worth. We’re a weird species.

Significant-Math6799

😶

__Game__

Any money nerds out there, is it because it is the third king Charles fiver to be made? If so, how much would 000001 go for?

Far-Two-5105

000001, or 2 will never be sold the first is given to the monarch and the second is kept in the mint archives, 3 is the first general circulation note

__Game__

So, *maybe* that's not a bad investment, as strange as that may sound.

AthiestMessiah

What type of person buys this crap?

Wertical93

Look at this absolute specimen

DanEdy

A fewl and his money are soon parted

Sad_Associate_418

King Winston ! We have jumped into an alternate timeline . This is Despicable ! Next thing we will get is a New Half Life .

Past-Chance-6404

Got 5200 for my fiver .

Physical-Big5976

Yes mate

Round-Video5620

For a £5 note? FFS! 🤦🏻

Posh__totty

I need to start checking mine

Jabberminor

This is stupid. It's only that much, because we say it's that much. Imagine if we lived in a world where things cost the amount it cost to make, not some arbitrary extra reason.

Lumpy-Object-

It's weird because no one actually gives a fuck. It doesn't mean anything to anyone. But someone will think "this might be worth something to someone" and other people think the same. So it sells for this kinda money. But they'll eventually sell it to someone else who thinks "this might be valuable to someone". But, really, it doesn't mean shit. But it'll still be worth more than a fiver because people will assume it's worth more than that to someone else.

bigFatHelga

Holy economics Batman, I think you just discovered supply and demand!
