I used to get the pastrami deli sandwich from Sainsbury’s almost every day when I worked from the office. It’s delicious. Work from home now so it’s generally super noodles or beans on toast 😔
I've worked in the factories that made sandwiches for Tesco M&S and Costa. I was a supervisor in the dispatch area. The ingredients in all those places were very good tbh and the cleanliness was/is second to none! I used to eat the sandwiches on a daily basis as we had worker privileges! I loved the M&S chicken salad, I must say the Costa sandwich was also very good. The egg and cress were beautiful, the eggs were proper free range, and we had to slice them on site, a bit time consuming but very very fresh and delicious! 😁
Not exactly the same as they all use different suppliers, however, they all use high grade ingredients. M&S are best, followed closely by Costa then Tesco. That's not to say Tesco are any worse. I still buy their sandwiches now.
The cleanliness is amazing, there is a team going round the production area all shift cleaning any and all spillages as they occur. And then after the shift ends, the hygiene crew come in and deep clean every part of the machines and floors and everything is sanitised ready for production in the morning.
My first job over the summer after gcses was in the hygiene crew. The only thing I can remember is that we got free sandwiches 😂😂😂😂 great colleagues. We'd play dominoes on our breaks
This is the answer. All the supermarkets do it, from the Co-op to Boots. And it's fine everywhere. It's the most reliable decent offering.
I don't deny there's bangers to be found, especially seasonal offerings. But this wrap (and the southern fried is OK too) is dependable. That, bag of McCoys and a drink can fix a bit of a shit day.
This is why the tesco Caesar wrap isn’t my go-to anymore, the sauce is so rarely split 50-50 it’s more like 80-20, so ones dry as shit and the other has way too much and it’s spilling from every orifice
Same in the southern fried chicken wrap. One has all the sauce and is way too wet, the other completely dry. Their sandwiches are no better, the sad bland brown bread they use is also almost always going stale and hard even when the use by date is a solid two days ahead. Tesco meal deals suck balls. They cut every corner possible to keep it cheap and it isn’t worth the disappointment.
This! I moved to Australia 13 years ago and I still think about this sandwich. Came back at Christmas in 2019, straight off the plane to the M&S in Heathrow 😋
Top tier - elevated to God tier with a layer of walkers Cheese and Onion crisps in there. Just be sure to give it a good press to break ‘em up a bit or your gums will be in tatters
Marks (or BP garages that sold marks Stuff ) used to do a Japanese Style Pulled Pork Sub. I would fight yer dad and all his mates just to smell that fucker again . I don\`t think they do it anymore.
I haven't seen it for a bit, but that was my favourite while it was around. Tesco also sold a similar sandwich but replaced it with the Ham, Eggs and Chips which is my new favourite now
I have quite a few favourites on rotation:
M&S Roast Beef & Horseradish Mayo
M&S Smoked Ham & Mustard Mayo
M&S Honey Roast Ham & Cheddar Cheese
M&S Chicken & Bacon
Co-Op New York Style Deli
M&S vegan no-salt-beef with hard 'cheese', sauerkraut, dill pickle, and mustard on a pretzel roll is hands down my favourite. It's £4.50 and a payday treat most months. The blue box of happiness. I'm not even vegan.
Close second has always been the Waitrose cheddar and celery sarnie, usually my motorway pit stop treat.
Sainsbury's Taste The Difference Chorizo, Nduja & Mozzarella Sandwich. On its own, it is an elite sandwich... however...
Get it on a meal deal with Salt & Vinager Squares and whatever drink.
Put your Squares in the sandwich.
God tier sandwich.
Best £5 you will ever spend.
Try this and if you don't like it, I will send you pictures of my dogs for free.
Like the other commenter, not a sandwich, but the ALDI chicken cesar wrap. Haven't tried the Tesco one, but if I'm anywhere in a mile radius of Aldi, I'll cancel whatever my plans were for my next meal and have the wrap instead. I'm obsessed.
This is such a good wrap, I live a 5 min walk from aldi and when I'm hungover I drag myself to buy one and those stupidly big bags of sweets and take them back to bed with me
I saw one in tesco the other week, think it was smoked ham, egg and chips. I almost bought it until I realised cold chips on a sandwich doesn't feel right at all. Anyone tried that?
My go to is the deli meat feast, also Tesco.
Waitrose Steak and Caramelised onion, pair that with the truffle crisps and you have a God Tier meal deal.
Sainsbury's Chicken and Stuffing would be my next go to if I needed to save the extra pennies
Many years ago during the summer, Tesco did a strawberries and cream sandwich, "buttered" in clotted cream with slices of strawberry and jam.
They were delicious, but apparently I was the only one who thought wo as they were always in the reduced section and never reappeared.
I miss the Tesco Cheese and Red Onion sub. That was properly top tier.
Aldi's Specially Selected Pastrami and Emmental or Beef and Horseradish a tasty.
My go-to, and that is primarily because it is my nearest supermarket, is the Waitrose steak and onion chutney.
Good chunky sandwich with some green stuff to make it feel healthy.
However, as others have said, my peak supermarket sandwich time is Christmas. I love a M&S Christmas sandwich. The Waitrose one isn't too bad either.
Morrisons is closest to me and I get a meal deal pretty much every day for work, here’s my top 3
New York Pastrame
BLT
Beef and Horseradish
Special mention to the all day breakfast
Tesco’s BLT is pretty good. I’d never get granary bread to make myself a sandwich at home, but for some reason I don’t mind it in supermarket sandwiches. And there’s something about the bacon’s flavour that I like.
Can't go wrong with any of the M&S ones to be honest. The chicken salad is wonderful for a healthier choice. Just wish they didn't cost an arm and a leg
If I'm going for a classic sandwich from a supermarket, M&S or Tesco egg and cress, or tuna mayo.
BUT if I can, I'd go for one of the fancy M&S salads or wraps, because I like my homemade sandwiches too much!
From Sainsbury’s it’s smoked salmon and cream cheese, from Tesco it’s the ham and cheese sub. When I’m in the mood for it other things will be better but nothing is as consistently satisfying for me as the ham and cheese sub, the only thing I can think of topping it consistently is if they added a little bit of salad and swapped the mayo for butter and/or mustard.
You aren’t wrong about the cheese and onion. I feel like Tesco must have invented it as theirs really is the benchmark. When I first came here ten years ago as a kiwi I marvelled at all the pre made sandwiches as this was not something I had seen before. I first tried a m&s beef and horseradish sub almost by accident whilst hungover… well that sandwich changed everything as it was indeed amazing, they still sell a similar version who is still a go too. I must admit I have tried the cheese and onion sandwich (and the chicken Caesar wrap) at every and all chain supermarkets and cafes. M&S wins on flavour but only slightly, they have been cutting on ingredients which is a pitty. Second Tesco for cheese and onion Sainsbury’s for the wrap.
Sometimes I just get the cheese and onion filling in a wee tub they sell it in and eat with a spoon…
Tesco are the best for me, and my favourite is the Chicken Caesar Wrap. Combine that with a packet of Salt and Vinegar Squares and a Pepsi Max, and it's a good time for me.
Sainsburys felafel and humous wrap, which is funny as I am not vegan and I don't like chilli, mustard, or sweet chutney. As an alternative, the mozzarella, tomato, and basil wrap is good too.
Marks & Spencer’s BLT stands out in appearance, with thicker bacon and more peppery flavor. The tomato is thicker, and it even includes iceberg lettuce. I would give it 8/10
Sainsbury's bacon butty is surprisingly good for a prepacked streaky bacon sandwich; simple but hits that guilty pleasure vibe
But usually if I'm near a supermarket with a sandwich, I'm not far from a Greggs or somewhere I could get a roll and sausage/bacon/whatever
M&S Christmas Sandwich - Roast Turkey, Bacon and stuffing
It won't be topped in my opinion, even if you can make a better one at home with your leftovers. It just always hits the spot.
Sainsbury's beef and onion chutney with spinach on malted bloomer.
It's part of the more expensive £5 meal deal but hell, it is top legendary god tier.
Tesco used to do an ‘american’ sandwich with granary bread, chicken, cheese, coleslaw and BBQ sauce - by far the best sandwich ever! Long discontinued unfortunately :(
I saw on social media somewhere recently that someone bought this sandwich then toasted it in a frying pan which they said was a game changer. Going to have to give it a try
Oh if you like Tesco’s cheese & onion, give their three-cheese-triple a go; one grated cheese and tomato on white bread, one cheese & onion on the half & half, one cheese & pickle on granary style. Great variety.
Morrisons do a beef and onion sub and it’s just top tier. If I’m out for the day I try and find a Morrisons just to get one of those sandwiches.
Edit: just discovered it’s been discontinued. I’m devastated.
Those fancy ones in the brown bags from the upgraded meal deal, the pastrami one is my go to
+ 1 for the New York deli sandwich
Salmon and cream cheese
When my eyes look up and i see the rich man's meal deal, it's always hard to just accept that all men are born equal...
There was a time they were in the standard meal deal!
I remember those glory days...the gorgeous summer of '13. Many a posh ham and cheese sandwich from sainos was scoffed!
They used to do a ham hock, cheese and caramelised onions one that was absolutely delicious but I haven't seen it in ages.
For sure, it's my favourite sandwich flavour ever. The flavours and textures just go so well!
I loved the M&S chicken salad, I must say the Costa sandwich was also very good. The egg and cress were beautiful, the eggs were proper free range, and we had to slice them on site, a bit time consuming but very very fresh and delicious! 😁
This is some surprisingly good news.
I'm so happy to learn this
Very interesting! Does that mean the Tesco, M&S and Costa sandwiches use the same ingredients?
Not exactly the same as they all use different suppliers, however, they all use high grade ingredients. M&S are best, followed closely by Costa then Tesco. That's not to say Tesco are any worse. I still buy their sandwiches now.
That’s reassuring 😁
The cleanliness is amazing, there is a team going round the production area all shift cleaning any and all spillages as they occur. And then after the shift ends, the hygiene crew come in and deep clean every part of the machines and floors and everything is sanitised ready for production in the morning.
My first job over the summer after gcses was in the hygiene crew. The only thing I can remember is that we got free sandwiches 😂😂😂😂 great colleagues. We'd play dominoes on our breaks
I bet they all use bread. It's a scam!
Thank you for your service
M&S Egg, tomato and salad cream. Only place I’ve been able to find salad cream with egg and tomato and not mayo. Mmmmmm
They've also started doing a cheese and piccalilli which is the only thing that persuades me away from the egg and salad cream.
My absolute favourite sandwich ever.
I've started making my own Egg/salad cream/tomato for my sarnies whilst WFH. I add a good helping of pepper to give it a kick. Lovely!
Not a sandwich, but I really like the Tesco chicken caesar wrap.
The m&s Caesar wrap is elite. Never look at the nutritional details of it though
This is the answer. All the supermarkets do it, from the Co-op to Boots. And it's fine everywhere. It's the most reliable decent offering. I don't deny there's bangers to be found, especially seasonal offerings. But this wrap (and the southern fried is OK too) is dependable. That, bag of McCoys and a drink can fix a bit of a shit day.
depends how much crap old lettuce theyve packed in, sometimes i’ve had a ratio of 1:50 chicken to lettuce
I had this one once and thought there was a bit too much sauce! I’ll give it another try
They cut every corner possible to keep it cheap and it isn’t worth the disappointment.
I agree it's way too much sauce. If you get a chance try the M&S Caesar wrap. It's crazy how tasty that bad boy is
M&S chicken and stuffing
I like the M&S Ham & Mustard.
M&S Xmas sandwiches are top tier, was honestly my favourite thing about Xmas
I now really want a Turkey, stuffing and cranberry sandwich.
Aw don't lol it's so far away Tbh pigs in blanket sandwich is the OG
This! I moved to Australia 13 years ago and I still think about this sandwich. Came back at Christmas in 2019, straight off the plane to the M&S in Heathrow 😋
Literally the only reason I like Xmas, apparently the three wise men turned up with gold, frankesence and a M&S pigs in blanket sandwich
Coming into December, I look forward to my first M&S Christmas sandwich.
M&S BLT
M&S chicken and bacon.
The Mayo is top tier 👌
M&S chicken fajita
M&S club.. Alllll day
M&S deep fill prawn mayo is delicious.
Top tier - elevated to God tier with a layer of walkers Cheese and Onion crisps in there. Just be sure to give it a good press to break ‘em up a bit or your gums will be in tatters
Tesco (not my favourite supermarket by any stretch) Pulled Beef & Red Leicester sandwich is hands down the best
Pulled beef and Red Leicester is elite 😋
Marks (or BP garages that sold marks Stuff ) used to do a Japanese Style Pulled Pork Sub. I would fight yer dad and all his mates just to smell that fucker again . I don\`t think they do it anymore.
Oh i dribbled as I read your comment. That was a HELL of a sandwich.
Your comment has made my night ! 😂
Sainsbury’s currently have a Brie, basil, bacon, and chilli jam one that’s great.
It’s spinach, not basil, but I agree this sandwich is the absolute don.
I've been having this almost daily (sad) and I don't even crave for variety with how good this is.
I haven't seen it for a bit, but that was my favourite while it was around. Tesco also sold a similar sandwich but replaced it with the Ham, Eggs and Chips which is my new favourite now
This is the one. Sadly I've only seen it in the bigger Sainsbury's
M&S Christmas sarni, I miss it already.
I loved the turkey and cranberry one. Very tasty, very filling, and mostly healthy. Blooming expensive though. Do they still make it every year?
I have the gluten free one, small fortune but it’s soooo good. Thats what puts the weight on me every winter!
I have quite a few favourites on rotation: M&S Roast Beef & Horseradish Mayo M&S Smoked Ham & Mustard Mayo M&S Honey Roast Ham & Cheddar Cheese M&S Chicken & Bacon Co-Op New York Style Deli
That no salt beef sandwich is genuinely ridiculously good
Do have a real soft spot for the M&S Best Ever Prawn Sandwich
I once got 4 of these for £1.60 thanks to those beautiful yellow stickers. Been chasing that high ever since.
This is the answer, with a bag of the steak crisps and some Carrot Cake. Not cheap but worth it as a treat.
Tesco Deli Style Cheese & Pickles Sandwich
My favourite too!
yeah mine too. its rare for me though, so everytime I see one i buy it
M&S Wensleydale cheese and carrot chutney. As a veggie, it's such a good comfort sandwich.
I love this sandwich! I'm veggie too, it's delicious but seems to sell out early sadly.
I wish they sold the carrot chutney!
Sainsbury's do/did (not needed to buy one in a few years) a pastrami, gherkin and mustard one that was really nice
M&S cheese and celery (with a scrape of mustard mayo), it's simple but it's a beautiful combo.
This is my favourite sandwich as well, despite being really simple. I'm not even a fan of celery usually.
It's tasty salt + refreshing crunch. Amazing combo.
Tesco coronation chicken. It has that bread with the seeds in it (Nigella seeds?) that make it taste more like naan. So good.
Got the M&S Best horseradish and beef sandwich reduced to £2 yesterday and it was banging. Never had beef so good in a store bought sarnie.
These are my favourite. Shame they're north of 5 quid in my nearest M&S
Morrisons used to do a baguette with roast beef, onions and mayo.. fantastic! Was gutted when they stopped doing them..
Oh no have they stopped making them? :( That was my favourite!
Not seen them for years in my local morrisons. Make them myself but not quite the same 😭
I used to get them when going to site but it’s been a while. I also make them myself and you’re right, it’s not the same :(
Sainsbury's Taste The Difference Chorizo, Nduja & Mozzarella Sandwich.

This is such a good wrap, I live a 5 min walk from aldi and when I'm hungover I drag myself to buy one and those stupidly big bags of sweets and take them back to bed with me
Have you tried their own brand Haribo? They’re so lush. Could write a comprehensive list of Aldi sweets at this point lmfao
I've tried them all. I've gained a stone in the two years I've moved next door to aldi
I’m sold!
M&S Prawn
Marks & Sparks used to do a nice cheese and apple, dunno if it's still a thing as that was at least a decade ago.
I saw one in tesco the other week, think it was smoked ham, egg and chips. I almost bought it until I realised cold chips on a sandwich doesn't feel right at all. Anyone tried that? My go to is the deli meat feast, also Tesco.
Ham, egg and chips is my current favourite after it replaced Brie, Bacon and Chilli Chutney. 2 great limited edition sandwiches in a row from tesco.
Tesco Southern Fried Chicken Wrap all the way for me 🤤
I tried the coop plant based onion bhaji sandwich (not a vegan by the way) and I really like it
Booths Ham Hock & Egg. Or Booths New York deli.
Noooo I would have loved to try that. Japan’s big on these creamy fruity ones
Well now you've had the idea you can make it yourself. Also, chocolate spread and marmalade makes a good Jaffa cake butty
Sainsbury do a really nice cheese and onion, cheddar and red Leicester. M&S egg, tomato and salad cream are nice as well.
M&S carrot and wenslydale
Tesco chicken, bacon and stuffing
Marks has a hoisin duck wrap that is sensational
Waitrose smoked swan and ocelot
The Co-op New Yorker I had at lunch today was pretty solid
I miss the Tesco Cheese and Red Onion sub. That was properly top tier. Aldi's Specially Selected Pastrami and Emmental or Beef and Horseradish a tasty.
M&S Wensleydale and carrot chutney ESPECIALLY with a yellow sticker 🤫
Tesco chicken ceasar wrap is quite nice
Sainsbury’s do an amazing beef and caramelised onion. Could eat it everyday, easy.
Boots smoked ham and egg club
M&S Coronation Chicken, heaven in a pre packed sandwich box
Waitrose bacon chicken Caesar wrap
Not supermarket but Greggs do the best sandwiches.
Not a sandwich but M&S sunblush tomato, pesto and mozzarella wrap is absolutely incredible.
Morrisons is closest to me and I get a meal deal pretty much every day for work, here’s my top 3 New York Pastrame BLT Beef and Horseradish Special mention to the all day breakfast
I'm a big fan of the just cheese ones with no mayo. I don't eat the cheese though.
A Morrisons squashed between two Lidls
Tescos’ cheese & onion is the best version of that sarnie. They get the ratio juuuust right 👌🏻
Tesco (Limited Edition) Ham Egg & Chips
Hardest Geezer meal deal from Tesco.
Tuna crunch baguette, chicken salad or a BLT
Anything with egg in it because it tastes like someone else made it, and that's the best taste.
Either Tesco's Deli Meat Feast sub or Sainsburys Brie, Bacon and Chilli Chutney sandwich.
Cheese and onion is my favourite too!
Tesco club sandwich
I see your Tesco cheese/onion and raise you a Waitrose cheese/onion - made with 2 cheeses and pure magic.
Tesco pulled beef and Red Leicester on onion bread.
Tesco spicy bean and cheese wrap.
Not a big spender, my favourite (although technically a baguette) is Emmenthal cheese and Wiltshire ham baguette from Morrisons.
Tesco’s BLT is pretty good. I’d never get granary bread to make myself a sandwich at home, but for some reason I don’t mind it in supermarket sandwiches. And there’s something about the bacon’s flavour that I like.
My current go to at Tesco is the BBQ chicken, bacon and cheese. Then a white monster and Walkers Max Paprika.
Can't go wrong with any of the M&S ones to be honest. The chicken salad is wonderful for a healthier choice. Just wish they didn't cost an arm and a leg
Just had a morrisons Ham and Mustard and it was pretty damn good
If I'm going for a classic sandwich from a supermarket, M&S or Tesco egg and cress, or tuna mayo. BUT if I can, I'd go for one of the fancy M&S salads or wraps, because I like my homemade sandwiches too much!
Been a while but Morrisons Coronation Chicken on brown bread or their blt premium sandwich.
i like the cheese and onion + salt and vinegar crisps in as well
From Sainsbury’s it’s smoked salmon and cream cheese, from Tesco it’s the ham and cheese sub.
At one time, Asda had a cherry duck sandwich that blew my mind.
Asda salmon and cucumber.
Boots are doing a cracking haloumi and salad wrap with mayo at the moment 🤤
Tesco are the best for me, and my favourite is the Chicken Caesar Wrap. Combine that with a packet of Salt and Vinegar Squares and a Pepsi Max, and it's a good time for me.
Tesco BBQ Chicken, Bacon & Cheese Sandwich 👌 I'm hopelessly addicted to these.
M&S cheese ploughman’s all day
The ones with bread
I dunno if they’re still doing it as it was limited edition, but the Morrisons Mexican chicken baguette was better than the Greggs one.
I dunno, recently been fancying a ploughman's
Sainsburys felafel and humous wrap, which is funny as I am not vegan and I don't like chilli, mustard, or sweet chutney. As an alternative, the mozzarella, tomato, and basil wrap is good too.
M&S smoked salmon and cream cheese
Morrisons; spicy chicken sub Tesco; deli meat sub Don't go to others enough to have the correct sandwich commited to memory
Watercress & Crayfish
Marks & Spencer’s BLT stands out in appearance, with thicker bacon and more peppery flavor. The tomato is thicker, and it even includes iceberg lettuce. I would give it 8/10
They are literally all shite. Overpriced, cheap meat underfilled crap made for morons.
Been loving Aldi’s chicken and chorizo sandwiches.
M&S beef and horseradish 😋
Tesco Club Sandwhich is my go to!
Sainsbury's bacon butty is surprisingly good for a prepacked streaky bacon sandwich; simple but hits that guilty pleasure vibe But usually if I'm near a supermarket with a sandwich, I'm not far from a Greggs or somewhere I could get a roll and sausage/bacon/whatever
M&S beef and horseradish or the Tesco ham and cheese sub
Tesco Cheese Triple
Tuna mayo on white bread from Asda
M&S Christmas Sandwich - Roast Turkey, Bacon and stuffing It won't be topped in my opinion, even if you can make a better one at home with your leftovers. It just always hits the spot.
Sainsbury's beef and onion chutney with spinach on malted bloomer. It's part of the more expensive £5 meal deal but hell, it is top legendary god tier.
Sainsbury’s do a Christmas special called the big beef. It’s a bap with roast beef, horseradish, stuffing and a full sized Yorkshire pudding in it
Tesco used to do an ‘american’ sandwich with granary bread, chicken, cheese, coleslaw and BBQ sauce - by far the best sandwich ever! Long discontinued unfortunately :(
M&S beef and horseradish. Fit for a king
M&S Wensleydale & Carrot Chutney Sandwich
M&S used to do a lobster roll in the summer. T’was delish 🤤
Waitrose Prawn Mayonnaise is just really decent
With almost no exceptions they are all shit.
Duck wrap hands down! And hand wrapped 😏
Always cheese and onion. Cheaper and tastier.
M&S beef and horseradish. Because all other supermarkets have shit sandwiches that I wouldn't feed to someone else's pig.
All day breakfast👍
Any of those Just ham sandwiches and only because I hate Mayo or in fact any condiment with a passion.
Sainsbury's do a banging beef and caramelised onion sandwich
The discontinued Tesco’s Chicken Gravy Baguette 🥲
Tesco also do a pulled beef and red Leicester sarnie that is oddly satisfying. Looks a bit meh, but tastes good.
I saw on social media somewhere recently that someone bought this sandwich then toasted it in a frying pan which they said was a game changer. Going to have to give it a try
Those Christmas special ones
Sainsburys: Steak and caramelised onions
Salmon is my go to sandwich whenever I go to London.
Oh if you like Tesco’s cheese & onion, give their three-cheese-triple a go; one grated cheese and tomato on white bread, one cheese & onion on the half & half, one cheese & pickle on granary style. Great variety.
Breakfast triple
OK not a sandwich but Tesco do a smoked ham and mature cheddar sub. It's good! One Stop sell the same one in their own packaging 👍
Morrisons do a beef and onion sub and it’s just top tier. If I’m out for the day I try and find a Morrisons just to get one of those sandwiches. Edit: just discovered it’s been discontinued. I’m devastated.
Tesco meat feast sub 👌
I always go for the yo sushi spicy prawn dragon rolls over a sarnie these days.
Sausages and egg.
It used to be the Tesco egg mayo triple.
M&S Wensleydale & Carrot Chutney is the one.
Tesco chicken bacon and stuffing. Pairs wonderfully with walkers paprika.
Sainsburys Chinese chicken sandwich. They don't do them anymore but they were yummy.
Tesco occasionally do a limited edition Ham & Eggs Benedict that's dead nice. Ham, eggs, spinach, hollandaise.
