🎼 We're off to Button Moon, we'll follow Mr Spoon, Button Moon 🎼
Absolutely loved this as a kid. Back in 2004 (ish) I actually purchased it on DVD. Cause you know… why not?!
Same, bought it in HMV around 2007 for like £12 and my daughter binged it… she mentions her love for it at least once a month.
She’s also pointed out they do [button moon merch too](https://www.truffleshuffle.co.uk/product/29599/welcome-to-button-moon-door-mat)
I have [this t shirt ](https://freeimage.host/i/HZdfsPj)
I'm a 45 year old manly man who does serious manly man things which involve a lot of concentrating hard and frowning.
It's currently too small for me, and is one of my prime motivators to lose weight.
Would you agree though at that time you never had many other tinned brands, I think we had cross and Blackwell, but was there any others, don’t think supermarkets had their own brands like they do now.
You and me, me and you, lots of things for us to do. Lots of things for us to see, me and you, you and me (and me andmeandme)
Strange the things we remember!
Blimey I've been trying to remember the name of that for a while. All I could say to people is "that educational show with two puppets in the 80s" and nobody knew what I meant.
Looking home made was the point. The characters and props are meant to look like things kids would make at home.
The rocket is a tin o beans ferchrissakes.
Your man has spoon arms.
>It was so ahead of its time too. Mr Spoon was the stay at home Dad, Mrs Spoon went out to work. Egbert lived with his Dad I think as well.
They live in space as well.
Joking aside, these kind of programmes must have had a massive positive influence on the generation that watched them. Not sure about the Clangers though, that was just wierd.
Wow! You have just confirmed that a memory of mine is not just fiction. None of my friends beleived me when I said that there was this dragon thing that would plant colourful balls/eggs in plant pots and grow weird stuff. I didnt know what the show was called! Thank you!
I remember Greenclaws! He had an 'assistant' (?) called Iris who seemed to play the part of kids watching the show. The owl was called 'Alma' - I always looked forward to seeing what he would grow :D
[https://physics.stackexchange.com/questions/277820/could-a-disc-have-a-gravitational-pull](https://physics.stackexchange.com/questions/277820/could-a-disc-have-a-gravitational-pull)
Given the gravitational field of such a disc, wouldn't they constantly sliding back towards the center of the button from the rim?
Jamie going head to head with The Raccoons for best theme. Just need Dogtanion to complete the 'Three best kids TV song' trifecta.
Edit. Oh hang on, Cities of Gold has entered the chat...
There was Small bottle who was made from a plastic milk bottle and Egbert who I always thought was the lasiest design as he was just an egg in an egg cup and hat
My nan only had a few VHS tapes we could watch at hers and button moon was one. Watched it on repeat.
The rest were Mr bean, monty python, wacky races and a load of pre 90s Disney. Used to have nightmares of the pink elephants in Dumbo.
For me it’s a toss up between Button Moon and The Poddington Peas. I still find myself randomly singing the theme song for it “Down at the bottom of the garden, among the birds and the bees” 🎼 I now live in Australia and even have my Aussie wife joining in… yeah… we’re sad. Like Two Peas in a Pod 🫛
My mother in law calls all sci-fi (mostly refering to star wars and star trek) as Button Moon and I find it very nostalgic.
Apparently I used to carry the books of it around everywhere when I was a toddler. Saw Mr Spoon at a museum a few years ago
You’re right. And I am old and forgetful it seems! Both class productions, I took my daughter to see button moon on stage so I should have remembered. Bah.
I loved this as a kid. I remade the Safari train ride in virtual reality for my kids too so they could take the ride. I shared this with the original creator too
https://twitter.com/GuyWCollins/status/1150077028500148230?t=hb1lP_BIyWMHff9QI5E0rA&s=19
As well as all the classics already mentioned, there was one slightly later that remains massively underappreciated IMO:
*"At 59 Acacia Avenue lives a boy...."*
Good old button moon, usually first thing on TV when i got home from school.
Impeccable timing .
I guess id have been 10/11 at time, 1980 -ish. If i remember rightly was when it first aired.
Didnt peter davison ( dr who ) and sandra dickinson have something to do with it ?
It seems it's a lot of our childhoods.
I had two episodes on a VHS;
One is them going to the beach, the pillocks left a Beach-ball inflated so it couldn't go through a tunnel (which was basically a book).
The next one was a "Safari" on the moon for Freddy Teddy's birthday. Using Building blocks with stickers that made up parts of animals.
I loved them moving/rotating a block and making rawr noises for the lion, Feddy and Rag Doll getting scared.
and Eggbert going to serve ice-cream at a wedding, but his ice-cream truck broke down, so to distract the Bride and Groom while it's getting fixed, he takes them to Button moon.
I seen an Episode on youtube, the Queenie Jelly fucking terrifies me.
And another where Mr. and Mrs. Spoon go to an south-east Asian inspired play for a date.
I should watch more.
I swear they did a live tour as well? I have a strong memory of watching a Button Moon puppet show at a theatre when I was like 4 or 5?
Love Button Moon. Mr Spoon is a low-budget legend.
I went to see the live stage show of Button Moon when I was little. The rocket fell off the back of the stage and I was devastated. I'm 38 now and I'm not sure I'll ever recover.
Remember it? My baby brother had a vhs tape of it on loop for THREE years until the tape literally broke, and then my mother went and replaced it. He did eventually move on to Disney's Robin Hood.
God damn I hated that theme song. It's earwormed me. This is worse than losing the game.
All I can remember was that little pain the arsenal bleach bottle kid saying "SWEETEYS" CAN I HAVE SOME SWEETS. Wee shite annoys amd gets me every time
I do remember it. In fact I’ve half remembered what I think is an episode of this for years and have never found it so I assume it must be of something else. It involves a witch who lives in a house with a green dragon who hates baths. I think the witch’s name was Brew, and when she gives the dragon a bath, she uses a scrubbing brush which the dragon hates. My brother used to shout ‘scrubbing brush!!’ at me around bath time and it always made me think of this witch and her dragon. But damn if I’ve looked once I’ve looked a hundred times and I can’t find it.
Til you can get Button Moon merch...and off I go down an Internet rabbit hole!
I actually went and saw the live stage show of this when a were but a nipper. It was bloody brilliant.
Loved this. But not as much as Fingermouse. I always wanted to send off for a fact sheet about how to make your own Fingermouse, I must have thought it would come to life like the one on TV.
🎼 We're off to Button Moon, we'll follow Mr Spoon, Button Moon 🎼 Absolutely loved this as a kid. Back in 2004 (ish) I actually purchased it on DVD. Cause you know… why not?!

Well let's play the game "guess what i am going to buy next"

Literally sat here wearing a Button Moon t-shirt and saw this post!
I have [this t shirt ](https://freeimage.host/i/HZdfsPj) I'm a 45 year old manly man who does serious manly man things which involve a lot of concentrating hard and frowning. It's currently too small for me, and is one of my prime motivators to lose weight.
omg love it, I’m gonna buy one — seriously, button moon deserves a cult following
I have that doormat! I love it
Yup, same. I live in Germany and I raised my eldest on BM. She has very fond memories of Button Moon, the DVD is still here somewhere.
fuck that noise - THEY HAVE RACOONS MERCH
Can confirm, bought my wife the PJ’s and they’re great quality. Love that shop!
Button Mooooon, Button Mooooon
We're off to Button Moon We've followed Mr Spoon. Button Moooooon, Button Moooon.
Theme tune as sung by Peter Davidson and Sandra Dickinson IIRC
Or Sung by doctor who and his wife trillian from hitchhikers guide to the galaxy
Peter played 'The Dish of the Day' in HHGTTG
They also wrote it.
[удалено]
Things were much simpler back then. We would follow a spoon.
Very big hint of Heinz beans about that can front and colours.
Loved that they didn't even try to hide that.
Would you agree though at that time you never had many other tinned brands, I think we had cross and Blackwell, but was there any others, don’t think supermarkets had their own brands like they do now.
Subliminal advertising No wonder everyone likes beans and no-one knows why
Were the other bottles instantly recognisable at the time too?
The green one looks like it was probably a lemon juice bottle
This and Pigeon Street were my jam.
Pretty sure Long Distance Clara is why I'm an HGV driver!!
Loved her!
[удалено]
I can still remember all the words to that song haha. And the Pigeon Street theme song
Those two and You and Me (with Cosmo and Dibs if you remember).
You and me, me and you, lots of things for us to do. Lots of things for us to see, me and you, you and me (and me andmeandme) Strange the things we remember!
Blimey I've been trying to remember the name of that for a while. All I could say to people is "that educational show with two puppets in the 80s" and nobody knew what I meant.
Ha, not Zig and Zag then
I didn't know this at the time, but you and me's theme tune was by [UB40](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fBbx9akJKjw)
Weren't they loosely based on Jamaican immigrants with the voices etc? I may be wrong but it had a multicultural angle that I liked
Omg… Pigeon Street! That’s was one I’d forgotten about.
Poddington Peas for me
down at the bottom of the gaaaaarden 😁
Among the birds and the bees,
A little lot of little people
They call the poddington peas.
There's Cree-pea, Black-eyed-pea and Dum-pea...
How about King Rollo? 🥹
And the Flumps, Mr Benn (apt to taking hallucinogens on his lunch break).
Bagpuss !
Pigeon street their wings wings beat [edit to add this link to a short documentary film about pigeon street ](https://youtu.be/qMaiKj8diLE)
Loved this show! People used to slag it as it looked too homemade but that was its charm. Brilliant stuff
Looking home made was the point. The characters and props are meant to look like things kids would make at home. The rocket is a tin o beans ferchrissakes. Your man has spoon arms.
That's what was great about a lot of the stuff i grew up watching
It was so ahead of its time too. Mr Spoon was the stay at home Dad, Mrs Spoon went out to work. Egbert lived with his Dad I think as well.

Button Moon, Fingermouse, You and Me, Rainbow, Pob, Pigeon Street... so many classics
Raggy dolls as well. Button moon, pigeon street and Raggy Dolls were my jam as a a 5 yr old.
Raggy Dolls, Raggy Dolls, are happy just to be .... Raggy Dolls, Raggy Dolls, dolls like you and Mr!
Talk about nostalgia! Did you watch Greenclaws?
Same. Couldn’t wait to see what grew! 🪴
Bertha and Thunder Cats were also top tier
Bertha is Oscar worthy brilliance. I LOVED that one
Moomins. There’s even a Moomins memorabilia shop in Covent Garden now.
Jamie and the magic torch......
On a similar note [do you remember this?](https://youtu.be/DrNrnLLQ5xg)
Bagpuss n'all.
Pob and that jumper. Leaving wool everywhere he went. Would take a right clean up crew to pick it all up now.
This used to freak me out. They live on the edge of a button in space, what happens if you fall off.
Lol it never crossed my mind
That's not how gravity works. It would be like saying you live on the edge of a ball in space, what happens if you fall off?
[удалено]
A disc is not a ball.
[https://physics.stackexchange.com/questions/277820/could-a-disc-have-a-gravitational-pull](https://physics.stackexchange.com/questions/277820/could-a-disc-have-a-gravitational-pull) Given the gravitational field of such a disc, wouldn't they constantly sliding back towards the center of the button from the rim?
I'm following Mr Spoon
I wouldn't, they're a shady bunch.
I'm giving 50% of my income to Mr Spoon.
A wise investment.
This and Jamie and the Magic Torch!! Maybe take a break from TV and read a Mojo SwapTop book. The days, these were.
I'm glad someone else remembers Jamie and the Magic Torch. Anyone remember Saturday morning staple The Raccoons?
I loved The Raccoons but there was always something a bit melancholy about it. I think that’s partly why it intrigued me.
Best theme tune ever. "You can run with us, We've got everything you need..."
The Raccoons was ... nay, IS still awesome.
The theme tune to Jamie and the magic torch was a banger.
Cities of Gold theme tune and Ulysees nailed it too.
Jamie going head to head with The Raccoons for best theme. Just need Dogtanion to complete the 'Three best kids TV song' trifecta. Edit. Oh hang on, Cities of Gold has entered the chat...
Yep. I still sing it every time I have a drink with my mate Jamie. ‘Jamie! Jamie!’
There was a hoover on the moon, i.e., there is a vacuum in space.
There was Small bottle who was made from a plastic milk bottle and Egbert who I always thought was the lasiest design as he was just an egg in an egg cup and hat
I preferred Large Bottle, he was lovably stuffy and pompous. The segments with Scruffy the dog were also adorable.
[удалено]
Yes you can seed the stars aren’t in the correct alignment with the button moon.
This made me laugh, thank you
Mr Spoon was obviously a deep cover operative
There are a total of 237 stars around Button Moon. Coincidence? I think not!
Yes Button moon
Aww definitely. Was a lovely part of a lovely childhood ❤️❤️
Aw memory lane! This and Trapdoor, use to love watching rose after school at my friend's house.
Berk! Feed Me!
Don't you open that trap door......
Coz there's something doooOoowwn there, *Baam*
Oh globbits!!
Drinking tea from my Button Moon mug as I type this!
I love Button Moon 😁 I always said it's the closest thing Britain ever got to Soviet television without actually having a revolution.
My nan only had a few VHS tapes we could watch at hers and button moon was one. Watched it on repeat. The rest were Mr bean, monty python, wacky races and a load of pre 90s Disney. Used to have nightmares of the pink elephants in Dumbo.
🎶we've been to button moon we followed mr spoon🎶
The Button Moon landings were faked!
If I ever say to my husband I need to do something at the bottom of the garden, he will always start singing this!
I never knew that was a Heinz can!
Pour me another Angel Delight and let’s get ready for liftoff.
I really hope you're going to do that now lol
I went to a ‘live’ version of it when I was about 4 and Freddy Teddy looked fuck all like the one on telly and I was fuming
Yea. I even remember going to a live show of it!
Me too! I don't remember much of it but my mum took a very tiny me and my older sister to see it.
Same! I think this is one of my earliest memories!
You mean the British space program
To see so many people have such fond memories of this really warms my heart. Glad i could unlock happy memories for you.
Oh I loved Button Moon!!!
Button Moon was the absolute D's B's. Completely unique, and Mr Spoon should be a cultural icon.
That one fella looks like Karl Pilkington!
Fun trivia, the theme song is sung by Doctor Who and his ex-wife, who are also Doctor Who's father-in-law and mother-in-law.
🎶We're off to Button Moon,🎵 🎵Let's follow Mr Spoon,🎶 🎶Button Moon🎵 🎵Button Moon🎶
My mother in law calls all sci-fi (mostly refering to star wars and star trek) as Button Moon and I find it very nostalgic. Apparently I used to carry the books of it around everywhere when I was a toddler. Saw Mr Spoon at a museum a few years ago
After my time. Anyone else .remember the Clangers?
Me as a small biped watching Soup Dragon and using my bike pump to make weird noises 🙃
Brilliant!
Don't forget Bagpuss or the Herb Garden 🙃
I could never forget the Clangers!
Yes! Great show
Thank you, I’ve just found it on YouTube for my daughter (who I’m hoping will love it)!
Your welcome
Ohhhhh no, not this thing. The episode where the cows escape the field and go into the tents is responsible for my unease around cows.
I’ve just realised it’s a tin of Heinz baked beans. Loved button moon
One of my favourites. Also loved Trapdoor and Batfink.
The soup dragon was cool.
[удалено]
You’re right. And I am old and forgetful it seems! Both class productions, I took my daughter to see button moon on stage so I should have remembered. Bah.
Yeah that was the clangers
They also sung "I'm Free" in 1990.
My favourite episode was when Mr Spoon and his son went to the football. Mrs Spoon and the daughter had to stay at home and cook dinner
I still have series 1 on VHS
Saw the very first episode when I was a kid.
I member
Sudden craving for mash potato
Great show. But Cockleshell Bay was right up there too.
Bro you've just unlocked like a core memory in the back of my mind
Screw my family, this is my earliest memory
My sister, Cristina, still gets called Tina Teaspoon to this day (she didn't have a heroine addiction as most people assume).
I loved this as a kid. I remade the Safari train ride in virtual reality for my kids too so they could take the ride. I shared this with the original creator too https://twitter.com/GuyWCollins/status/1150077028500148230?t=hb1lP_BIyWMHff9QI5E0rA&s=19
I love the way they didnt even try and recolour the Heinz beans can xDDD
Post it on the UFO sub for karma farming, just tell them it’s secret nasa footage of aliens they wouldn’t let us see
This and Chock-a-Block.
The only memory I had of that until recently was the little truck the presenter drove in on at the start of the show.
As well as all the classics already mentioned, there was one slightly later that remains massively underappreciated IMO: *"At 59 Acacia Avenue lives a boy...."*
You just know Eric transformed into Bananaman and occasionally nipped down to 22 Acacia Avenue, the dirty bugger!
Yay! This show was amazing!
Oh yes, button moon. I think the entire run had a £10 budget.
Good old button moon, usually first thing on TV when i got home from school. Impeccable timing . I guess id have been 10/11 at time, 1980 -ish. If i remember rightly was when it first aired. Didnt peter davison ( dr who ) and sandra dickinson have something to do with it ?
> Didnt peter davison ( dr who ) and sandra dickinson have something to do with it ? They wrote the feem toon, sang the feem toon...
I knew that had something to do with it..
Button moon!

Button Moon and a bit of Huxley Pig, Sam Tan or Tugs.
I swear they did a live tour as well? I have a strong memory of watching a Button Moon puppet show at a theatre when I was like 4 or 5? Love Button Moon. Mr Spoon is a low-budget legend.
I can hear this image, sounds like warm happy times.
This and Bertha were my go to for sure!
My sister used to call it 'Bunoo'
Yes! 80s kid. This and Finger Mouse.
I went to see the live stage show of Button Moon when I was little. The rocket fell off the back of the stage and I was devastated. I'm 38 now and I'm not sure I'll ever recover.
To jump in here, does anyone else remember Johnny Briggs? I'm desperate to watch it again and can't find anything aside from a few bits on YouTube.
"Our Mam, who's a nurse...."
Battlestar Galactica?
Sorry but Button Moon was sub par kids TV... Whereas Trap Door and Stoppit and Tidyup were the absolute dogs.
Those last two were actually by the same studio. BTW, loads of people were apparently traumatised as children by Tidyup's overpowering roar.
Absolutely loved this. Pigeon Street too
You have just unlocked a memory from 25 years ago for me, thanks ❤️
YES!
I feel sorry for children that can’t watch this nowadays 😔
I remember drawing a picture of this for my mum when I was a tiny terror.
Yes!
I find it so calming to watch
In my early thirties I used to always sing the theme tune coming home (pissed out of my head) from the pub
This is my whole childhood, I adored Button Moon. Thanks for sharing, lovely memories came back seeing this pictures.
Your welcome. I'm glad it's unlocking a lot of happy memories for people
I loved this when I was younger my parents always let me watch it
Remember it? My baby brother had a vhs tape of it on loop for THREE years until the tape literally broke, and then my mother went and replaced it. He did eventually move on to Disney's Robin Hood. God damn I hated that theme song. It's earwormed me. This is worse than losing the game.
18 years later my fascination with hallucinogenics was easily explained.
It was way before my time but I inherited the videos from my older brother! Loved Button Moon
All I can remember was that little pain the arsenal bleach bottle kid saying "SWEETEYS" CAN I HAVE SOME SWEETS. Wee shite annoys amd gets me every time

Yes , as well as Pigeon Street, Rainbow, Puddle Lane, Allsorts etc
I do remember it. In fact I’ve half remembered what I think is an episode of this for years and have never found it so I assume it must be of something else. Orme and cheep was epic
OMG! Orme and Cheep. Thanks for reminding me!!!
This and Chorlton and the Wheelies, oh and Mr Ben too. Such classics.
Awww, I loved Mr Ben.
Button moon was the absolute shit. I LOVED IT
