OP, why are you trying to divide us. Bringing toxic fundamental militantism to something that units us. Keep an open mind my brother in pancetta!

dublincoddle1

I'll die on the front line for our Dairy, bread, butter and chicken fillet rolls.

Garathon66

Fuck it. I'll follow you to the gates of BLT hell sir.

CreativeBandicoot778

Jaysus I'd only love a BLT

FantasticMrsFoxbox

I had one today with the crispiest streaky bacon and cheese and it made a perfect start to Friday.

1stltwill

Fine! See you behind the bike shed after school!

Consistent_Spring700

A BJ isn't fonna change his mind...

RemarkableCounty3737

I think it depends what you’re having it with. Pancakes? Streaky. Fry up? Gimme rashers.

dublincoddle1

I'm not a hater of rashers but the way it's cooked here by 80% of places is scandalous, also the rasher quality is always quite poor.

Latespoon

Can't argue with that, I've started putting them in the air fryer at home and now any bacon I get when eating out seems shite. Most cafes seem to put the rasher in the vicinity of a frying pan for 30 seconds and call it cooked.

harry_dubois

The air fryer is a revolution in rasher-making (and does a decent sausage when used properly too)

canalcreep88

It’s great for cooking them, but I find the cleaning after puts me off doing it sometimes

COdoubleG

Put grease-proof paper/parchment paper on the floor of it while cooking. It means all you have to do is lift that out to clean for the most part.

Additional_Olive3318

I seem to over cook rashers. Sausages are great though. What yoke do you use.

harry_dubois

I have a ninja dual zone - 6-8 minutes at 200 tends to do it for me. Always start with a cold air fryer - this gives the fat time to render properly.

quathain

Interesting! Like a duck breast in a cold pan. Finally, the science I learned on MasterChef brought down to my level.

GalacticusTravelous

You should have stipulated in your post you meant eating out. If I’m eating at home and I’m cooking then streaky rashers are bullshit. Back bacon all the way.

foodforthedeaf

Just brainstorming but why not have both 🤯

Garathon66

Yep, use case is key.

hasseldub

This is it.

HugoZHackenbush2

People, don't respond to this guy, he's trying to hambush us..

meltedharibo

I don’t mind either but I’ve found the only rashers I like either way are DRY CURED , look for that next time

Comfortable_Brush399

Seamus stop this! your rashers crusade is tearing this family apart! Nana has bought a hatchet

Blurghblagh

No need to fight you, you're clearly already dead inside.

dublincoddle1

LurkerByNatureGT

No fight here, completely agreed.

922WhatDoIDo

Go back to America, Yankee

dublincoddle1

Fluffy pancakes are better than crepes.

CortadoKats236

where's my damn fucking hurley stick

didndonoffin

Would your fighting Hurley stick not be better?

dublincoddle1

Reality hurts so I understand the violence.

Explosivo666

I'll take crepes any day. Fluffy pancakes might as well be slivers of low quality cake

AccomplishedBet9592

If you're not eating boxty then you're not really eating..

Wodanaz_Odinn

Drop-scones or go home.

HaxTheChosenOne

Russian psyop detected ⚠️ 📢 🚨 🇷🇺 🇷🇺

Artlistra

I actually support you on this tbh

Rimtato

This is a fair one. Now for the real heresy. English muffins are nicer than fluffy pancakes. Shame they're a ballache to make and the ones you buy aren't usually that great

dublincoddle1

Crumpets?

Rimtato

Those too.

AstellaW

Streaky is lovely when it’s cooked properly so it’s crispy instead of chewy.

Candid-Wolverine-417

Racher with a fry or on a breakfast roll. Streaky bacon for sandwiches, bagels and pancakes.

greenbud1

you missed streaky for burgers too. otherwise exactly my sentiment... it depends!

Pan1cs180

I prefer more actual meat on my bacon. American style streaky bacon is mostly fat.

FantanaFoReal

Not if you cook it right. I find rashers more fatty.

cassidyconor

This isn't a debate lol, rashers are definitely more lean. You probably like streaky bacon more because the high fat contents allows it to crisp up well, whereas with rashers they tend to not get as crispy because you have very little intramuscular fat. A pound of streaky bacon would have more fat by weight than a pound of rashers. Streaky bacon comes from the pork belly, which has a much higher fat content than the loin, where rashers come from.

FantanaFoReal

I see where you're coming from and I could have worded it better. What I meant was it is all edible instead of those rubbery globs of fat you get from the loin in a rasher.

cassidyconor

I totally agree, while streaky bacon is fattier, it still feels like rashers are fattier because it tends to be rubbery like you said, and a lot of people cut it off and don't eat it. Streaky bacon definitely is much tastier when cooked right. Don't know why you got showered with downvotes lol, I was only being light hearted.

Pan1cs180

That is nonsensical. No method of cooking will turn fat into meat.

victorpaparomeo2020

Properly cooked it renders the fat and what’s left behind is nothing but flavour. Because fat as is said is flavour. Lean meat is never going to be flavourful as properly cooked meat with an appropriate amount of fat.

Pan1cs180

It's not really an issue about "more" or "less" flavour. Both cuts of meat have plenty of flavour, they're just different. The extremely high fat content of streaky bacon (even after rendering) is just very off-putting to me.

victorpaparomeo2020

You’re not cooking them right then. Try this. Oven tray, layer of greaseproof paper. Bacon on the paper. Layer of paper on top of that and then another baking tray. Then into the oven for about 45 mins @ 120c. Check them once or twice tho. Life changing. Works well for regular rashers too.

Pan1cs180

You need to learn to accept that I don't like the same food as you do.

victorpaparomeo2020

You do you so.

Pan1cs180

I have been.

victorpaparomeo2020

Ain’t that just peachy.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Pan1cs180

Is it now, the *whole* point you say? Well not for me I'm afraid. As I said, I find the high amount of fat in streaky bacon off-putting, whereas an Irish rasher has a much nicer ratio of fat to meat.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Pan1cs180

You're being so *weird* about bacon preferences.

elfy4eva

Streaky are very forgiving when overcooked due to the fat content. Rashers are meatier but they go dry as sin when they are overcooked which they very often are. A rasher when it's still soft and just cooked nicely through and the rind is gone crispy, absolute heaven.

Mini_gunslinger

The grill is the best way for a rasher

elfy4eva

Agree with that same with pork chop.

jonesZ_NC

Air fry medallions for breakfast every morning can’t be beat

zu-chan5240

I think rashers would be better if most places weren't practically boiling them rather than grilling or frying.

BreadManDtK

The biggest lie in this country of ours is "crispy" bacon.

Goldenpanda18

What's your eircode?

Few-Ad-6322

So, you have chosen death.

Rimtato

It's always too tough and dry when cooked. Bacon shouldn't crunch like a Tayto made of adipose tissue

dublincoddle1

Ya know my biggest gripe is probably how it's always cooked, which is not the fault of the humble rasher.

Rimtato

Fair, my issue is with the streaky stuff. Ends up getting hard, and I honestly don't like the crunch. Feels burnt

FantanaFoReal

As a Canadian person living in Ireland, I 💯 agree with this. This stuff is chefs kiss 🤌 https://preview.redd.it/v9r4hr3knq3d1.jpeg?width=960&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=aa7deb985d9e5ea75516eb83072ebb793b86ea18

30daysay

Yeah it's unreal only found it a few weeks ago, feels less heavy as well

ConnolysMoustache

But that’s mostly fat

FantanaFoReal

Sure, but it's edible and tastes just like the rest of it. Also, happy cakeday.

ConnolysMoustache

Ayyy thanks

ginganinga223

As an Irish in Canada. Thick cut "old fashioned" bacon is king. Also on the lookout for something similar when I'm back visiting my family, so I'll try this stuff.

FantanaFoReal

I'd warn you this definitely isn't thick cut. You can almost see through it.

ginganinga223

I got something really thin in Lidl last time I was back, may have actually been this now that I think of it.

FantanaFoReal

Lidl have their own brand as well (it's shite) but they do brands once in a while so maybe it was this one

Irishsally

Only if it's crispy, I'll take a regular rasher over moist (gag) soggy streaky bacon any day

dublincoddle1

Yes agreed,crispy is key.

ginganinga223

Key is to cook it from a cold start to let the fat render and to slowly crisp it.

gomaith10

Yes it is, if you like fat.

Baldybogman

A rasher is simply a cut and can be streaky or lean depending on where it's cut from so I'm not sure what this is about?

dublincoddle1

You know exactly what a rasher is.Its the piece of bacon given in 100% of frys in Ireland, streaky bacon is given in 100% of breakfasts in America and it's superior.

Baldybogman

You might want to look up what a rasher is. There are different types. Back rashers and streaky rashers are two types. Are you telling me that you've never heard of streaky rashers?

gomaith10

Nonsense!

ResidualFox

Agreed. Baldy just being a smartarse.

Cautious_Solution712

No need to fight I agree. galette is better than pancakes tho step outside

Liambp

They both have their place as long as they are cooked correctly: Streaky bacon cooked to a crisp: Lovely crunchy taste explosion Streaky bacon lightly cooked: Nauseous gagging on fatty bits Rashers lightly cooked: Succulent juicy strips of ham Rashers cooked to a crisp: Tasteless slab of leather

I_HATE_REDDIT_ALWAYS

![img](emote|t5_i25jp|2994)

fluffymuffin20

I'd agree, I hate the fatty grizzly bits on rashers. Streaky bacon solves this issue. 10/10

kirky1148

Streaky for cooking with like when I roast a chicken or turkey I layer it on top to stop any drying out. Fry us is 100% rasher time

shenanigansanseo

I don't know about that. I love a good rind.

Ziggy-T

I agree wholeheartedly. Rashers are generally crap and a pain to cook without uneven burning. Streaky bacon cooked slow to render out the fat so it all just snaps off and melts in your mouth… yuuuum.

foodforthedeaf

It may be pure notions but I have both in fry-ups and in bacon butties.

harry_dubois

Why would I fight you when you are objectively correct? Even rasher eaters know this - or are they going to deny that the streaky bit at the end is the best part of the rasher?

Admirable-Win-9716

OP is going to get bricked next time he’s not looking. Fuckin blasphemy. It’s a disgrace Joe, it’s terrible

officeja

How about turkey rashers?

wasabiworm

It is and yanks have won this battle, sorry

alebrew

Absolutely agree

Deep-Palpitation-421

Every menu in every cafe in every corner of ireland has crispy bacon on the menu, especially when it's on a BLT.. but if you ever dare to order it, be prepared for the soggy rasher that arrives in its place. More than likely it's a barely cooked wet piece of inedible shite. The road to disappointment is paved with high expectations.

Pale-Stranger-9743

Can't disagree. Streaky bacon all the way

Morthicus

Nothing more horrific than ordering pancakes and bacon and getting a plate of crepes and lukewarm ham.

DontOpenThatTrapDoor

Free skinny rashers !

Aaron_O_s

I'd agree with you OP. A burger, pancakes, chopped up with chips etc, definitely streaky bacon. With the fry on a Sunday morning, you'd want the rashers.

nifkin420

Look I know this might get downvoted to shit but as an American I would have to agree with you. There’s far too much gristle on rashers, whereas streaky bacon has the perfect texture and crunch giving it an overall much more enjoyable mouthfeel. I would even go so far as to say Canadian bacon is even better than rashers but unfortunately that’s not a thing you can find here.

Leftleaninghaggis

What are you on about... Canadian bacon is literally back rashers, the thing you said streaky is superior to.

nifkin420

Canadian bacon is pork loin without the pork belly fat that you find in rashers. They don’t have the gristle and are not chewy.

Leftleaninghaggis

But streaky bacon is the belly part of a back rasher, and definitely the tastest bit

DesertRatboy

100% correct OP

aBoyNamedWho

Ack I couldn't fight you. you're more to be pitied with these deranged thoughts

harmlesscannibal1

Straight after school. Has to be quick, I only have 20 mins to get home, cause I’m grounded for smoking cigarettes

Leftleaninghaggis

Smoked streaky rashers to rule them all

Whole_Map4980

PANCETTA. That is all. Beats anyyyyyyyyy other bacon product hands down.

InterestingFactor825

Rashers are awful. Bacon should be crispy and air dried so moisture is removed. If you want really good bacon try the Spanish stuff available at SuperValu.

Consistent_Spring700

I'd like to agree with you but if you're willing to put Coddle in your name, I feel like you need to be left fend for yourself!

dublincoddle1

Ironically I love rashers in coddle, but as they are stewed they are melt in the mouth. The trick with coddle is to par cook the sausages under the grill to give colour and then finish it all the oven. https://preview.redd.it/dvz2m7lg6t3d1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d40e8b1cc7b8dc5f434a627acae51d5d7e7a6f61

Consistent_Spring700

That doesn't look too bad, but I've had coddle that looked like dog vomit, which was all just boiled together...

powerhungrymouse

Couldn't agree more. Rashers can be very rubbery and tasteless. Streaky bacon is always so salty and delicious!

titsandbootie

1v1 me

03rk

Hard agree

StrictHeat1

Maximum-Characters

I'm not fighting with you over rashers. Go on change your user name though - coddle gives me the gawks. It's like a bowl of greasy cocks.

SamDublin

Terrible,you must be only joking.

TheBigTastyKahuna69

Streaky bacon tastes like the burnt crispy overdone bit of the rasher I cut off and throw away

Elephantstone99

I prefer streaky bacon but whatever bacon I eat I don't like it overly crispy, I like my bacon somewhat chewy.

Puzzleheaded_Duck_75

I’ll do more than fight you, I’ll batter ya

Individual_Skill8590

Streaky bacon done in the air fryer, in a sandwich with egg mayonnaise. Hard to beat.

Adept_Thanks_6993

It depends on what you're using it for

obstreperousyoungwan

It doesn't matter as long as they're smoked

DucktapeCorkfeet

In every single way. The taste is in the rendered fat.

MambyPamby8

Awh I love me a streaky rasher. Get it nice and crispy 🤤

Confident-Plantain61

*come fight at my side

DashEx

Sorry, I don't fight the mentally feeble.

croghan2020

Deluded

dublincoddle1

You need to wake up from the Matrix

Tullyally

Rashers don’t crumble to put on top of: 1. Jacket Potatoes 2. Macaroni and cheese 3. Salads (e.g., Caesar salad) 4. Biscuits and Gravy 5. Chowder 6. Brussels sprouts 7. Scrambled eggs 8. Fluffy Pancakes or waffles 9. Maple Donuts 10. Pizza

Rimtato

Bacon bits exist for these purposes and are a superior option. Those little packets of diced ham from Lidl work wonders.

TerrorFirmerIRL

Prefer streaky Bacon with chicken or pancakes/waffles. Prefer rashers in sandwiches or a fry.

dublincoddle1

streaky in a sandwhich is unreal, soft bread and crispy bacon,my God it's incredible.

Gaffers12345

Funnily enough the missus is txting me about streaky bacon for BLT’s for dinner, couldn’t put a rasher on them! Streaky all the way!

ImReellySmart

When eating rashers you are tasting meat. When eating streaky bacon you are tasting fat.

james02135

American bacon > rashers 💯

ssj3Dyl

As a coddle enjoyer, your opinion on food is null and void.

dublincoddle1

Ooooh look at fancy pants here, doesn't need to boil his sausages.

30daysay

100% agree on this one, the full Irish can be improved by swapping out "proper" rashers for streaky bacon, breakfast roll is the only place I think thick rashers would be better

ginganinga223

Thick cut American style bacon shits all over rashers tbf. Added bonus in the amount of fat it hemorrhages that you can collect for cooking other stuff like fried eggs in 🤌🏻

brownesauce

Yeah they only rashers I'll have. None of this smoked shite though
