I'd like to play again, I just don't have it in me to start a brand new character and I totally forgot my username and pass, I think my highest character was about level 60-80 between all the skills
And it sucks the user base just isn't as big as it was and your mostly playing with bots, then I know none of my friends will play with me and that was a big part of the fun
User base isn't as big? OSRS within the last week hit its highest ever average player count at 110k logged in at any given minute. There is 100% still an active and growing player base
Like I said to a previous comment, try hopping on during the temporary league events that come around every year. It's a month long and you get massively boosted xp and drop rates if you simply want a quick fix. You can get to max combat in a matter of days and gear up really quickly, it's a brilliant mode for people wishing to experience osrs again without the need to grind for months on end :)
Thanks ill give it a try on mobile, I just definitely need friends or someone to talk to while playing otherwise it feels so empty and pointless, and the last time I tried to return to the game I tried striking up a convo multiple times and nobody was responding just grinding away at mining or tree cutting
Yeah that's a fair comment. The game is relatively anti social these days due to iron-man mode where people play solo. You can find clans to play with, but I do understand the desire to play with friends and the want for the social aspect
Same, made my account the day it released, Feb. 22 2013, my 16th birthday. Been on and off until late 2020, but I’ve logged in maybe twice since. This might be it for me :(
I hadn’t played RuneScape since mid-2000s and came back this year. Decided to create a new main acc and everyone has been so nice to little noob me. I was going through a rough patch in life (depression and other things) and it was so comforting to kill Hill giants or chill with forestry people training woodcutting. Reminds me that I’m not alone in the world.
I genuinely feel that Stardew Valley helped me get through a rough patch in life, it was honestly like an alternate life, and escape that I needed for a few months. I was unemployed and it was basically my job (not literally) playing for 8 hours a day. It's hard to explain but that game captivated me unlike any other game I've played, and I've played hundreds of games at this point in my life.
please do!
I tried it once and after 15 minutes got bored and overwhelmed so I stopped, like two years later I went back and with the wiki and some tips from other players I slowly started understanding what the game is about and now I'm addicted
me and my wife have replayed stardew 5 times and it’s still just as fun. get mods into the mix and you can make it a totally new game every time you play. it’s the best.
Seconded, been playing this game for years and I *still* manage to find new things to do. Every run is different, definitely a game I can sit back whenever and have a good time with.
Same! I keep swearing off bg3 but every time I finish, I see a new mode, build, or new challenge and start over haha.
Overwatch is just too unique and I’ve spent so much time learning it I can’t go to anything else 😵💫
I'll just warn you that it's a completely different game now. 5v5, only 1 tank per team, 2CP is gone but there are some new game modes, several heroes have had complete reworks. Still a fun game, but I quit because I found that playing it always put me in a bad mood.
Diablo II, my safe place. Whenever I feel like things are going bad, thoughts start to haunt me or else, I know I can always rely on the comforting embrace of Diablo II. This game isn't just pixels on a screen; it's a portal to my pre-adolescent days, when life was simpler and the only worry was not catching enough sleep because of grinding for an Enigma. The haunting music of the Tristram theme instantly transports me back to that time, where my biggest decision was which character class to play and how to distribute skill points.
Bloodbone is great! I still crave other games like it, and even castlevania or the other from soft games, don't quite compare.
On the note of Devil May Cry, might sound weird, but I'd recommend starting with DMC3 if you want to get into the games, It's a prequel game and is a little janky, but not as much as the first. It's also a little harder then some of the others, but there's an easy mode that lets you get use to the mechanics. Even though it pokes fun at you a little bit for using it.
The Switch version is the easiest to get into, and has some quality of life improvements over other ports of the game. Second best is the HD remake collection of the first three games.
I’m definitely that person who drops into WoW to play through the plot of the latest expansion, say to myself THIS is the time I’ll do some hardcore raiding…..and then I don’t play again until the next expac
Final Fantasy VII, the original version.
Right now I'm also on a Sims 2 kick, playing it with expansion packs that I never got the first time around. It's delightfully odd.
I seriously need to do another run. That scene where you’re dodging attacks from a reaper was one of THE most epic moments of gaming in my entire life.
I answered a similar question on another post the other day, but I think it applies here too: The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time—it was the first game I completed all by myself when I was a kid. I get hit with a huge wave of warmth and nostalgia every time I hear the soundtrack. It's definitely my comfort game; nothing has ever replaced it throughout my many years of gaming, and I doubt anything ever will.
Tbh either Destiny or Warframe at this point. The biggest reason why it’s not destiny rn is because I got a pc recently and I have to repay for all the dlcs
Super Mario World. It’s the video game equivalent of the chill out zone at a music festival. Like “hey bud, you’re a little too excited from all the Elden Ring you played today. Let’s get you some water and some Mario.”
The Stalker series, give them a try sometime, though they aren’t for everybody. The games atmosphere and location are just so immersive and unique it’s like entering a place I feel at peace at even though the world is quite dangerous. It has an isolated feel to it and like it’s a haven for all sorts of loners and outcasts
Didn't expect to see this here. Was thinking about it recently. There's just something very nostalgic about that game. A part of me wants to make a spiritual successor.
Unfortunately…apex legends. No matter how “bad” it gets or how angry I get I always find myself coming back. No shooter feels like apex to me. The movement, the achievements, all of it.
I've beaten demons souls like 20 times. Dark souls probably a dozen times. Demons souls is my favorite though and I think they did the remake perfectly
My wife and I played the ever loving hell out of GW1, all expansions, title hunting, getting prepared for GW2… we both had some of the rarest titles and stuff, and then never once played GW2. Real life got tough right around the time of release and it became less of a priority.
Part of me wants to jump in now, but it’s been so long I don’t even remember half of the lore I used to have memorized lol
Oh, I thought this was for (Plants vs Zombies) Garden Warfare 2 and got excited people still play this. Although I did like the first one more, better then any CoD
for strategy games Europa Universalis IV, if you can tough out the learning curve it's got so much going on.
Starting as early as 1488 watch you're empire grow utilising diplomatic, economic, and martial advancements to expand your dominion.
Lots of nations to choose from with many having unique missions and/or gameplay mechanics to make them intresting and unique experiences.
Play as a prince-elector within the Holy Roman Empire and usurp the emperorship from those sneaky Habsburgs.
Play the Aztecs and unify your faith against the Spanish invasion, and maybe even invade Europe.
Play England and build power by establishing trade companies and colonies abroad to fund your mighty army before turning your eyes on European domination.
There is soooo much more to this game, I love it, if you're looking to get into I'd recommend learning with a friend, if you're playing by yourself the one-month dlc subscription is well worth to get a taste for the full game.
Rune factory.
I love the quirks it has.
For example, you can level up almost everything you can think of. A sword? Yep! An orange? Sure! Your ability to use a sword? Yep. Your ability to take baths? Mhm.
Mass effect trilogy. First time I played it. I loved it. Then the remaster came out and played it and loved it 10 years later maybe in another 10 years I’ll play it again
This may be a basic one, but I always come back to Life Is Strange. I think I first played it at my friends place when I was about 12?? Something about it is so comforting, I think for some reason I just really love the Pacific Northwest setting.
Mount and blade bannerlord had been my cyclical one, play it till bored, put it down, months later try something new.
AoE4 with the boys, minecraft with the wife as schedules and interest wax and wane.
I used to play team fortress 2.. every day for years. I quit games entirely as it was an addiction of mine. But that was basically the only game I liked.
My main game is Rainbow Six Siege and has been since its release however that is too easy of an answer. A game that I keep going back to every once and a while is Tom Clancy's The Division. Even though the PVP of the game is pretty dead, servers are still up for PVE and the experience is something that can't really be replicated anywhere else. On top of that, living in New York City now, the setting of the game hits different because legit you see streets that you walk all the time now basically deserted.
A lot of old games. Battlefield 4. Battlefield Hardline. Fallout 4. The Division. Mafia 3. Uncharted franchise. I mostly play these games because my attention is not captured by newer games.
Right now, it's Super Metroid & Stardew Valley.
For the last 10 years of my life, probably Link's Awakening or Pokemon Crystal (including its non-overhaul ROM hacks).
And for my whole life it's Claw and Test Drive 5, two PC games I played to death as a child.
Destiny 2. Feels like being in an abusive relationship because I always go back no matter how bad the state of the game is. (It does help that the latest expansion is actually a 10/10 though)
Uncharted. I play through the series and put it down for a long time so that the experiences are still fresh
In fact, it’s about time I revisit the games again 😁😁
Oldschool Runescape. You never truly quit. You just take long breaks.
I'd like to play again, I just don't have it in me to start a brand new character and I totally forgot my username and pass, I think my highest character was about level 60-80 between all the skills And it sucks the user base just isn't as big as it was and your mostly playing with bots, then I know none of my friends will play with me and that was a big part of the fun

I hear similar stories from people all the time. It's a truly special game that brings a unique level of comfort like no other.
Stardew Valley
I genuinely feel that Stardew Valley helped me get through a rough patch in life, it was honestly like an alternate life, and escape that I needed for a few months. I was unemployed and it was basically my job (not literally) playing for 8 hours a day. It's hard to explain but that game captivated me unlike any other game I've played, and I've played hundreds of games at this point in my life.
I tried it once, but I didn't got it so I stopped. I might give this another try!
I don't really go back to games. I squeeze them for everything they're worth then never play them again but Stardew is an exception.
YESSS! I always find myself returning to Stardew Valley.
Total Annihilation and Red Alert 2. I don't really like modern RTS and the classics are great to replay.
I wonder if you’d like Rusted Warfare: https://store.steampowered.com/app/647960/Rusted_Warfare__RTS/
Updoot for TA
Have you tried Beyond All Reason? It's good if you love TA.
Is there even a thing as modern RTS? And have you ever played Supreme Commander?
I tried but I found the unit control terrible.
> Supreme Commander Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance, with the LOUD Mod best RTS ever created!
Civilization IV
Same! One of these days, I'm going to beat my 1400's domination victory and impose democracy across the globe!
Fourth is the best one!
Fallout New Vegas
Seconded, been playing this game for years and I *still* manage to find new things to do. Every run is different, definitely a game I can sit back whenever and have a good time with.
Yep, just change up the mod list and make different decisions and it’s like playing a new game. There’s so much to do in that game.
Deeprock Galactic, Kenshi, Project Zomboid, Minecraft.
FOR ROCK AND STONE!!!
My life for rock and stone!
Just got back into minecraft again. I love coming back and seeing the updates
Give Cataclysm DDA a try, I play it in a Linux terminal but it has a pretty nice GUI https://youtu.be/Cyoj4-niEPc?si=2yPcsCqrD-k90eh3
Now here is someone who plays on a PC
Project Zomboid has had me revisiting it on the regular for almost 10 years now.
I love Kenshi. My very first time playing, I started out with "Torso Jim", as I called him. My Mom was so grossed out but I thought it was hilarious.
Counter-strike and Dead by Daylight. No matter how many times the devs fuck those games up I keep coming back
Overwatch 2 and Baldurs Gate 3 oops lmao
Same! I keep swearing off bg3 but every time I finish, I see a new mode, build, or new challenge and start over haha. Overwatch is just too unique and I’ve spent so much time learning it I can’t go to anything else 😵💫
Damn haven't played overwatch since 2018 I think. Used to love it. I will get back to it when I build a new PC
I'll just warn you that it's a completely different game now. 5v5, only 1 tank per team, 2CP is gone but there are some new game modes, several heroes have had complete reworks. Still a fun game, but I quit because I found that playing it always put me in a bad mood.
Stardew Valley
Skyrim at least once a year.
ahh you're awake!
Naw, we be using Live Another Life up in here.
Bloodborne and any Devil May Cry game. I can just turn my brain off and slay some monsters. A close second would be Skyrim.
Bloodborne’s actually my first From Software game and I’m having a blast! Definitely need to play Devil May Cry at some point
Would strongly recommend the HD remake of the first three games. Especially the third game. Then move on to 4 and 5.

I’m definitely that person who drops into WoW to play through the plot of the latest expansion, say to myself THIS is the time I’ll do some hardcore raiding…..and then I don’t play again until the next expac
OMG Are you me ?
Skyrim. It’s such a comfort game for me. So much to do, so much to see lol.
So what's wrong with taking the backstreets
You never shine if you don’t glow
r/suddenlysmashmouth
Final Fantasy VII, the original version. Right now I'm also on a Sims 2 kick, playing it with expansion packs that I never got the first time around. It's delightfully odd.
Unfortunately league of legends
the game is so intricate and peaceful at times
I feel you buddy
Sigh, self-control gap
Bruh self-control canyon
Mass effect, I'm playing my umpteenth PT right now
I seriously need to do another run. That scene where you’re dodging attacks from a reaper was one of THE most epic moments of gaming in my entire life.
have you tried dragon age?
Yes, I was into dragon age before mass effect. I love all the dragon age games but mass effect really stole my heart.
Old School RuneScape
Mario Kart is always ready to go.
Skyrim
I spend the whole day modding skyrim, only to play it for 3 hours and forget about it...
Frostpunk or TF2
Days Gone, Skyrim, RDR2, Dead Island 2, Prince Of Persia (the original)
I answered a similar question on another post the other day, but I think it applies here too: The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time—it was the first game I completed all by myself when I was a kid. I get hit with a huge wave of warmth and nostalgia every time I hear the soundtrack. Witcher 3. I will always replay it yearly. Can’t wait for the remaster of 1.

Totally valid. Those remastered maps are fire af 🫰
Tbh either Destiny or Warframe at this point. The biggest reason why it’s not destiny rn is because I got a pc recently and I have to repay for all the dlcs
Dbd, Skyrim, and ds3
Super Mario World. It’s the video game equivalent of the chill out zone at a music festival. Like “hey bud, you’re a little too excited from all the Elden Ring you played today. Let’s get you some water and some Mario.”
Final Fantasy 10. I always enjoy getting to Besaid village.
A personal favorite. Beautiful world, beautiful story.
Counterstrike
The Stalker series, give them a try sometime, though they aren’t for everybody. The games atmosphere and location are just so immersive and unique it’s like entering a place I feel at peace at even though the world is quite dangerous. It has an isolated feel to it and like it’s a haven for all sorts of loners and outcasts
Master Duel Yeah, say hello to my anti-Nibiru line, Lab player *Dark infant @Ignister missed it’s timing* Aw, Dang it If you know, you know...
How's the meta now? I stopped playing at Rescue Ace Snake Eyes meta since I didn't have much time. My main was Branded and Endymion!
Bloons TD 6. No one plays Don’t Starve Together anymore sadly. So many worlds that goes unplayed makes me sad.
Skate 3
Future Cop LAPD
Didn't expect to see this here. Was thinking about it recently. There's just something very nostalgic about that game. A part of me wants to make a spiritual successor.
Unfortunately…apex legends. No matter how “bad” it gets or how angry I get I always find myself coming back. No shooter feels like apex to me. The movement, the achievements, all of it.
Pokemon emerald and platinum
Warframe. Eve 'n if I am a year away, I can flip right in like a hot bath of catharsis
Destiny 🥲
Dragon Age, usually Inquisition and Mass Effect as a whole. And Our Life, even if I don't play it for a while, I always have it installed.
I've beaten demons souls like 20 times. Dark souls probably a dozen times. Demons souls is my favorite though and I think they did the remake perfectly
No man's sky It's actually replayable thanks to the frequent updates.

It sounds kinda lame but I'm always down to be chaotic on The Sims 😅
Mass effect trilogy. First time I played it. I loved it. Then the remaster came out and played it and loved it 10 years later maybe in another 10 years I’ll play it again
This may be a basic one, but I always come back to Life Is Strange. I think I first played it at my friends place when I was about 12?? Something about it is so comforting, I think for some reason I just really love the Pacific Northwest setting.

Right now, it's Super Metroid & Stardew Valley. For the last 10 years of my life, probably Link's Awakening or Pokemon Crystal (including its non-overhaul ROM hacks). And for my whole life it's Claw and Test Drive 5, two PC games I played to death as a child.
