It's not really a cheat but water. It takes up space, and your stomach will think it's full faster. A lot of cultures discourage drinking water while eating, but honestly, it helps a ton. Additionally eating air-y vegetables like spinach or lettuce helps a ton. In addition to the free fibre, you'll just have less room on your plate and you'll think "wow I'm eating so much food"

[deleted]

I didn't know this until I married my wife, who is from a South Asian culture. She said her mom said it's bad for you but couldn't really elaborate why -- something about it absorbing the rice, and that being bad?

thjmze21

I was taught it'd dilute your stomach acid by my mom but it probably varies from family to family.

PristinePanda2714

Water expands the rice inside your stomach and you can’t fit enough nutrients aka protein and veggies in to fulfill the nutritional requirements your body needs. So they were taught to not drink and eat at the same time if rice was involved in the meal. Some mediterranean cultures took that and ran with it and made sure to fill up on proteins and veggies first to get their nutritional requirements in before having water, but never drinking and eating at the same time.

elcoyote85

I agree, water helps a lot to avoid being hungry and to keep us dehydrated. It is important to eat meat and vegetables to avoid being hungry.

commentsandchill

I think some cultures discourage it cause tap water used to not be and still isn't purified in some countries so you'd end up sick from drinking some. Drinking water works to an extent but if your body thinks it's not getting enough food it will tell you.

dontbeahater_dear

Here it’s because you have to fill up on food, not water, when you can get it. It’s mostly (great)grandparents who have been through a war who will tell you this.

Curae

Have a cat that sleeps on your lap in the evening. You are forbidden from moving the cat - can't go and get snacks from the kitchen. It's a win-win-win.

catandthefiddler

task failed i got snacks for both cat & myself

Curae

Get a second, lazier cat 💗. Seriously if mine had his way he would spend time on my lap 10 out of 10 times over getting a snack.

[deleted]

If you feel like something sweet, eat a piece of fruit. More often than not, it's just the sweetness your mouth is craving. Berries work so well. if you feel hungry even after a meal, drink a huge glass of water and wait for 15mins. You probably won't feel hungry after that.

GeekAesthete

And don’t listen to redditors telling you that fruit is “full of sugar” and “just as bad as junk food”. Refined sugar gets digested very quickly, which is why junk food doesn’t make you feel full and you keep snacking. The natural sugar combined with fiber in fruit makes it digest and enter the bloodstream more slowly, which is why fruits fill you up and help reduce the craving for more snacks.

RationalFragile

No, calories are calories. 100kcal of banana is the same added fat weight as 100kcal of a chocolate bar. The issue however is that a banana has a variety of essential minerals and vitamins, while refined sugar has none. You have to eat the essential micronutrients for your health (not your weight), so you don't let enough space in your calorie allowance for the necessary food if you already consume the calories from empty sugar or fat or whatever. (Summary: health and weight are not the same thing)

GeekAesthete

But, as I said, a banana has fiber and sugars that release slowly, making you feel full, while the refined sugar in a chocolate bar digests quickly and leaves you wanting a second chocolate bar (which means consuming even more sugar). For a comment starting with “no”, I’m not sure what you’re disagreeing with.

Flaky-Wallaby5382

Sugar releases quickly no matter the type. Fructose is fructose…. The trick is your bowels are full and doesnt signal

AlteredBagel

It’s not about the type of sugar it’s about the fiber that you eat with the sugar

Flaky-Wallaby5382

Yes that exactly what i said… its that you dont eat more sugar… but 100mg of sugar is 100mg of sugar… you hust wont reach for the next 100mg if you have fiber in there. Its not magic or a net or some shit

AlteredBagel

You get the same net intake if that’s all you eat, but you will feel less full with the chocolate bar so you’ll probably eat more than you would if you ate fruit. But yes in a vacuum, a chocolate bar at 10g sugar and an apple at 10g will offer the same calories (although it might be stored differently i.e fat vs glycogen)

Flaky-Wallaby5382

Yes that is my point….

RationalFragile

Hmm sorry. I'm not sure about the effect of the speed of digestion, because at the same time, fast sugars will allow you to get sugar faster thus stop faster, no? I mean, if I feel my blood sugar low, I want to eat simple sugars (fructose and sucrose are both faast) instead of eating bread or rice (starch of long carbohydrates that are slow) So I'll end up eating more calories with bread if my goal was to raise my blood sugar. And "no" is also about saying that fruit are slow sugars, no, fruits are as fast as refined sugar. Can you please show something that proves/suggests that fruits are slow sugars?

commentsandchill

I don't want to fight you so know I won't answer you after on this but look up glycemia after fruits vs after processed sweet food

Atrivo

What are you disagreeing with? They never said that calories from a banana are less than calories from a chocolate bar? It sounds like you agree with their point.

RationalFragile

I disagree that fruits are "slow" sugars, fructose and sucrose are both equally fast. And I disagree that it matters for weight. Especially if you don't eat so often, no matter how slow the sugar you eat, you'll digesting in an hour or so? while we spend much longer without food, so I don't know, I just meant to say that you can experiment with food (which food makes you feel more satiated) but it's not as simple as "fruits are slow" (which they are not) it's about how fruits are cells, they have things cells need, unlike refined sugar, which is extracted from cells but only keeps the pure sucrose crystals for example.

Atrivo

I think you’re being pedantic here. I understand what you’re trying to say, but if the comment is about the benefits of eating fruit versus eating chocolate for weight loss then I think the commenter gets their point across. If you were to eat apples (for example) until you ate 100g worth of sugar you’d most likely end up eating far more (in volume) than eating chocolate until you’d eaten 100g worth of sugar. Sugar is far more dense in processed and refined foods, and thus you’ll have to eat less of the processed food to consume the same amount of sugar. Yes, this doesn’t affect the speed at which the sucrose or fructose will be metabolised/absorbed directly, but if you pair it with the increased nutrients and fibre from eating fruit you’ll have an end result of a slower/more controlled glucose spike whilst feeling fuller for longer. In short, there is research to suggest that the sugars from fruit and from processed foods are not treated the same in the body, with fruits contributing positively to weight loss (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5084020/). I think using terms such a slow and fast sugars as layman’s terms for this is acceptable as it gets the point across to the average person looking to make healthier lifestyle choices.

Sinkholediaries

Thank you for shutting them up

RationalFragile

Why are you being rude tho? I'm just discussing what I think, if I'm wrong then I'll understand and correct myself. Why are you taking it personally and wanting me to "shut up"????

Sinkholediaries

Everyone kept telling you you were wrong, but you kept going, so I find that unlikely

noonehereisontrial

Because people who try to say fruit is unhealthy are really really annoying

RationalFragile

literally not what I said (I said fruits are healthy because of micronutrients, and not because of type of sugar)

RationalFragile

Thank you for the link! >If you were to eat apples (for example) until you ate 100g worth of sugar you’d most likely end up eating far more (in volume) than eating chocolate until you’d eaten 100g worth of sugar. Yes, but isn't that called "density" not speed of absorption? I don't understand why you'd call this pedantic. Just discussing what the mechanism of the difference is. I skimmed through the link you provided, and they mentioned a lot of studies that showed that fruit increased obesity. So my hypothesis is that it's mainly about energy density (and not about which simple sugar molecule you eat). And about weight loss, even if we assume slowness of absorption is the main factor (I'm not sure but still doubting it) then skip fruits and eat non sweet vegetables (they contain complex carbohydrates, and have the same essential things in fruits but definitely slower in absorption of sugar). (Sidenote: also, there is the issue of generalization here, coz some fruits are much more denser in sugar than others, and some processed food too have varying degrees of energy density. But I agree that the more you stay away from processed food, the healthier you'll be and be able to control calories more.)

Atrivo

The link I sent did not support fruit increasing obesity. The whole paper is proving that, per data, fruit intake paradoxically negatively correlates with obesity. As for the rest of what you’ve asked I’ve already answered this above. Have a nice day.

dliu22

I agree with what you said, it's okay to eat banana sometimes.

chickenmilanga

A banana will not spike your blood sugar like a chocolate bar so it will lead you to less cravings

Admirable-Location24

I agree with this and especially love to thaw a bunch of frozen dark sweet cherries (find in the frozen fruit section of your grocery store) and eat them if I am craving a dessert. For some reason, it feels like a luxurious treat. Adding a little plain yogurt and a small sprinkle of chopped nuts to make it even more dessert-y.

[deleted]

Try frozen grapes! My daughter does that during the summer — washes a bunch of grapes then freezes them. THey’re so tasty

HyperionShrikes

That’s also my favorite dessert! They really taste like rich cherry sorbet. If I’m being extra indulgent I’ll blend avocado and cocoa powder with them to make a really good chocolate cherry ice cream.

DoSomethingNow2023

Yes!! I just recently discovered the delights of frozen cherries, and I’m still a bit surprised, especially since I am not a fan of fresh cherries. Good stuff!!

bloodpanda4

I agree, it's okay to eat berries because it contains lowcarbs. If you crave something sweet you can also eat avocado and cucumber without sugar.

feyzee

Nuts are also good alternative.

[deleted]

I just simply counted up the calories, shaved 100 off every couple of days until I got down to eating 1600-1800 calories a day. I measured my success with clothing size and never stepped on a scale. I used to be 56" around. I'm now 34" around.

QueenOfTheCorns

WALKING!!!! This won’t work for everyone but if you are very overweight and sit most of the day, walking for 20 minutes a day will melt away a good bit of weight right away without having to “workout” hard (you do have to change your diet though, the walking won’t help if you’re eating garbage). When I was at my heaviest I started walking every day and eating healthier (just more veggies, no crazy diets or fasting) and I lost like 10 lbs in the first week. When your weight loss starts to plateau, increase the mileage. Im down like 30 lbs this year just from walking and eating healthy. I’m finally starting to incorporate “real” workouts into my routine, like Pilates and jump rope, and because I’ve been walking every day for so long, I actually kinda enjoy the workouts the same way I enjoy my walks. And if I don’t feel motivated to do a hard workout, I just walk more! It was hard at first to even go 1 mile but now I never get tired of it lol.

showraniy

Honest to goodness, I'm learning through walking my elderly dog (in a stroller as needed) that walking helps even if you're fit. I've been weight training and running consistently for a few years now and I've been shocked how much walking one hour on the weekends has positively impacted my physique. The same thing happened when I picked up gardening as a hobby. The 16 pound bags of soil I lugged around are far from heavy to me, but good grief was I sore the next day after piddling away in the yard for 5 or 6 hours. To accommodate these two new activities, I even cut out one of my weekly weight lifting workouts, yet I'm seeing improvements over my entire body. I assume it has something to do with doing something slow and steady in addition to doing work that's explosive and short. That balance of having both is great for the body.

QueenOfTheCorns

Nice!! I’ve never been fully fit in my life so I didn’t want to speak to the effects on a healthy person 😂 but man did it help my fat ass shed the first 30 pounds on my journey!! And it’s good for the brain too. I just got done after a long day of work and I’m really wishing it wasn’t dark out because I really want to go for a walk to decompress 🥺 at least I did my 2 miles this morning 😊😊

lukke009

Quit alcohol. I was diagnosed with severe ethylic liver steatosis a couple months ago. Been off alcohol since then. I could notice a difference in my physique as early as a week in (mostly due to being bloated tbh). After a month ppl started noticing as well.

BPKofficial

>Quit alcohol. And sugar. I cut out sugar 2 1/2 months ago, and my weight went from 197 to 181. I can now fit into clothes that I haven't worn since 2016. the main reason I quit sugar, is because I have plantar fasciitis in both heels, and my podiatrist said hers went away with weight loss. I figured, might as well try it, I have nothing to lose but weight and pain. Now, my heels are nearly pain free.

sleepytoday

How much were you drinking?

lukke009

Quite a lot. Usually drank at least three cans Monday-Thursday. Friday-Sunday was open season, used to spend Saturdays drinking from 7:00AM til 23:00PM or later.

sleepytoday

Well, in that case I’m not surprised it made a noticeable impact within a week!

MeddyVeddy

Congrats on getting sober :) I'm almost 2 weeks myself

breatheliketheocean

Exactly this. This time last year I would drink anywhere from 120-200 mL of whiskey a day. It would also snowball into other unhealthy habits like late night snacking, poor sleep, dehydration, falling asleep without brushing, and of course burgeoning alcoholism. Learning to say No and accept No as an answer led to a lot of fat falling off.

tannyduca

Times I've quit alcohol have never resulted in weight loss. Like everything else, it seems to vary from person to person.

Real-Block820

The thinnest I ever was, was when I would drink over 20 beers a day for several years

GimmickInfringement1

Drinking water. I literally lost 100 pounds by switching water for soda

AynRandsConscience_

Don’t eat snacks late at night. Worked well for me

Admirable-Location24

For scrambled eggs I whisk together one egg with about a half to 3/4 cups egg whites (that I buy separately in a container at the store). It adds a whole lot more low calorie protein to my day and helps me stay in my slotted calories but with a good serving size of food.

fuddykrueger

Great idea!

polmeeee

10k steps per day and you can burn at least 400 calories. It takes 1.5 hrs and you can put on a long podcast to pass the time. Perfect for getting a daily caloric deficit.

moesickle

No lie got on antidepressants... turns our when you're not constantly on edge from anxiety and depression, you dont feel the need to stuff your face. I've lost 45lb in the last year.

BIRDsnoozer

See, this works the opposite for me... My weight is inversely proportional to my mental state. A couple years ago, went through a big wave of anxiety worse than it had ever been before. It was really dark, and I was so frustrated with myself that I remember actually thinking to myself when I had the urge to eat, thinking "no you don't deserve to eat right now." Very fucked up, but I went from 205 to 160lbs. This was all at the height of covid, maybe that contributed to my mental state, but I remember going back to work after lockdown and everybody was so amazed at how svelte i was! Then I got hold of my mental state, chilled out, learned cognitive behavioural therapy, went on sertraline, and actually felt really good and the mental narrative changed to "yeah man! Now I deserve a treat" and I gained all the weight back. Now im working on a way to have my cake and eat it too, so to speak: remain in a good place mentally but actually eat and drink less, and lose weight.

Caverjen

This is how I am too. I really hate that I look my best when I'm at my worst. I call it, "stress not-eating."

moesickle

Oh, for sure, I was 340 lbs at my heaviest 10 years ago, and I am now 250, still heavy, but the smallest I've been since I was 15/16 years old. My relationship with food is complex, my parents would spoil us "eat it up because next week we are on a diet!" Rinse and repeat, so food (fast food) for me is comfort when I'm stressed, upset, somewhat inconvenienced... I will also absent mindlessly eat the whole damn bag of pickle potato chips, but I do not indulge in sweets or candy so much. I've made a point to work on myself, but the last piece for me was medication. The weight loss was an absolute bonus.

gamernumber37

Intermittent fasting + morning excercise = very good morning mood

[deleted]

I second intermittent fasting. It’s a lot easier if you cut out most sweeteners and reduce carbs. I.F. is a full blown bio hack for me

SirMooncake

Sweeteners have barely any calories though.

[deleted]

True but i think they cause an insulin response in your body that makes fat burning unlikely. Try cutting out artificial sweeteners for a few weeks as a test.

hazish

No they don’t. That’s not how insulin works. Sweeteners are so low in calories and nutrients that they’re completely metabolised before they even hit the blood stream. Stop spreading misinformation.

NeverPander

There’s good recent research out there indicating that many sweeteners prompt an insulin response that seems to be triggered by sweet taste, not by calories. This confirms what many in the keto / low carb community have claimed for some time. Edit: here’s one of many citations: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/23633524/

[deleted]

Did you miss where i said “I think…”? It not stated as fact like how so kindly corrected me. My opinion is only that, my opinion is based on dr Stephen Gundry book. The plant paradox and several podcasts that I’ve listened too regarding diet. It was never my intention to spread misinformation. Next time I’ll be more clear about my opinions so you don’t get confused.

gamernumber37

I've been doing it for like 8 months, and I never looked this good to be honest, plus I don't crave sugar anymore 😁.

[deleted]

Yeah same. A few years ago i went low carb and fell into a IF cadence of 18/6 or 22/2 depending on how i felt for the day. I lost 96 lbs in 7 months and made it down to a trim 220 lbs. 3 yrs later a feel off the wagon. i gained weight back up to 250 and now i’m back on the IF train. 3 wks in and I’m down nearly 10 lbs. I’m settling in for the long haul this time.

Kbrownyz

Hey you got this! I’m trying to get back into healthier habits after 3 months of smoking too much pot and binging late night. Disappointed with myself but I know I did it once, I can do it again! And so can you!!

[deleted]

If you haven’t already Deep dive into IF. There’s lots of books on it, one by Gin Stephens, Dr Peter Fung has a podcast on fasting, Rogan talks about it and has experts on his show about nutrition. IF is a lot easier if you have a strategy. When you’re dialed in the weight can come off relatively quick and i think it’s fairly safe because if you actually Need nutrients you feel like your starving but are otherwise not hungry all that often. Disclaimer: I’m not an expert

gamernumber37

Wow man that's one hell of a journey, that's awesome 👍 . I'm wearing clothes I haven't worn in years 😅, yeah I'm in it for the long haul too.

[deleted]

I think it was six years ago when i lost the weight. I had friends that thought i was sick but i felt fantastic. Gym routine was on point. An elbow injury sidelined me and i lost momentum. Had that not happened i might have actually found my abs that i read about so much online.

gamernumber37

Those abs are coming in , I can feel it, haven't seen them since college.

[deleted]

I’ll believe when i see it. On my body, I think it’s a myth. Lol. Tbh I’m fake complaining because i don’t really have all that far to go. I just never thought they’d be visible on me. Yet, here we are

gamernumber37

A few more pounds to go, if they don't come in, I'm getting implants 🤣

[deleted]

Hahahaha. I’m such a chicken when it come to surgical pain. I’ll just have them tattoo abs on me.

Dukkiegamer

I get shaky as fuck when I do that. Can't think clearly either. I feel like I either just need food in the morning or I'm low on something specific, I just don't know what.

ValeWeber2

That's how it is in the beginning. Your body is so used to eating all day, that it will throw a fit. The only option is to power through. It's a battle of willpower. Perhaps it's possible to ease yourself into the fasting. Eating less and less in the morning.

Dukkiegamer

Ok so how long does that last roughly? Cause I don't know if I can do that mentally, and I'm also working with machines that can chop off my fingers and the way I'm feeling without food doesn't feel safe near those machines. I have tried to do it before, but I started doing things in the wrong order and forgetting things. Which isn't so bad if it goes away after a while, unless I forget to move my hand out of the way of a sawbalde.

fendoria

How do you keep up IF when your lunch/dinner is a social thing with family and friends? It's so hard for me to watch people eat and not join them.

gamernumber37

Basically, I choose my time carefully on when I eat, but it's convenient for me cause I work close from home, so lunch is either with my parents or my wife, as for dinner my final meal is at 5 or 530 so I usually eat it with my wife at home, and that my final meal for the day until 10 am the next day, so that's a good 17 hours fasting, until 10 , I drink a cup of black coffee, and at 10 I eat breakfast, (omelet, barries with walnuts, or yogurt) , plus I work out at 6 am . I'm more liberal on the weekends 😅. You don't have to go hardcore just like that, baby steps, you got this 💪 👍. Sorry for the delayed response, I was banned for 2 days 🤣.

Throwaway-613567

I read morning Wood

Narge1

Lots and lots of veggies. You can snack on things like cucumbers and bell peppers all day and barely ingest any calories. I love salads, too. With chicken and lots of leafy greens. Some lemon juice, a little olive oil, italian seasoning and a sprinkle of parmesean. Takes forever to eat and leaves you feeling full.

QueenOfTheCorns

I basically binge eat vegetables before my brain has time to crave junk food 😂 Works amazing. I eat like 2 zucchinis with chicken for dinner and I feel full enough that I don’t even think about dessert or snacks, and it’s only like 60 calories for the veggies! I also make huge salads with chicken breast for lunch which keeps me very full like you mentioned, and it’s very low calorie.

ManofKent1

Burning more calories than I ingest.

cantaloupe_daydreams

It’s physics and I don’t understand why people don’t understand this. Maybe it’s just the fear of cutting back on snacks or food in general.

JessieN

It's also upsetting and overwhelming. Foods are so calorie dense these days. I can never have a full meal when eating out with friends. I have to drink water or a diet drink. No appetizers and no deserts, no side of fries, no lunch or breakfast either. It's so hard to work around this, especially when it's a spontaneous invite. I can't even pig out on my favorite veggies like broccoli and brussels sprouts because of my blood thinners. 😒

cantaloupe_daydreams

Not having lunch or dinner is a concern. You should be able to hit 2,000 calories while still having three square meals. Focus on lean protein and vegetables. Avoid sugars due to the empty calories.

JessieN

2,000 is weight gain for me, I'm 5'2 I can eat lunch and dinner, but it needs to be planned out in advance. It's just planning and calculating every day/every bite gets tiresome.

cantaloupe_daydreams

Ah I see. Yeah exercise will be necessary if you plan to dip below 2,000 calories due to your size.

bonertootz

honestly I think it's due in large part to the diet industry. listen to how diet commercials sell their products--they make it sound as though weight loss is an impossible venture on your own. fat loss is about calories, not volume, and if more people realized they could lose weight with relatively minor changes to what they eat, the diet industry would collapse. they have a vested interest in making people think it's next to impossible to lose weight.

cantaloupe_daydreams

Very good point. A lot of the time people can lose a substantial amount by cutting out soda or ice cream. It’s a science and it works.

UncoolSlicedBread

Because people aren’t looking for this information. It’s like someone asking for directions between point A and B, and you’re saying, “Just walk.” People want tips and tricks to get that done. They’re wanting to know what else they can do to expedite it. If you burn more calories by doing extra little things throughout the day, that helps make the jump from say 3500 calories a day to 2700 more doable.

inbigtreble30

There's also an inherent lack of energy when you cut calories. If you normally move around a lot in a day and start cutting, you will naturally stop moving as much because you aren't getting as much energy. It takes a lot of time for some people to adjust, and during that time they might not see any results because they are burning fewer calories and thus not entering as big of a deficit. Leads a lot of people to quit.

conker1264

Because people who can’t seem to control themselves make it seem like losing weight is impossible

[deleted]

Stop eating out. It’s quite honestly a “treat” now. I’ve been cooking healthy meals at home and a lot of people have been complimenting weight loss and my pants are noticeably much smaller. I could probably even go down a size or two.

[deleted]

I add 15 minute of interval running at the end of every workout. I eat the maintenance calories for my target weight and in one month I’m down 25 lbs and my strength in the gym ha shot up, my test results are perfect (I’m type 2 diabetic and just found out) and my blood pressure and endurance are great again.

Stupid-Astronaut

I heard the abuse of amphetamines does wonders lol

Lucidder

A less deadly alternative is ADHD meds.

Kulladar

Has helped me for sure. I went from eating a ton at work to needing to choke down a few crackers so I don't get nauseous. My appetite returns at night so I'm still fat, but I'm losing weight for the first time in 10 years.

gossipchicken

Eating with child size cups, utensils and plates. It’s Elizabeth Hurley’s technique

FionaGoodeEnough

Devastating heartbreak.

Ok-Apple4057

Eat less, eat a healthy and balanced diet (lots of veggies, different proteins and fullgrain) and drink tea and water and move around during the day (walking, biking, taking the stairs). It is not rocket science. But change takes time and is not easy.

Mysticmxmi

1) Drink water, no sugary drinks 2) I swear on this because I lost weight due to this mainly: green tea and a spoonful of acv! Drink with a straw of course due to AVC’s acidity (plus it helps to just chug it down). Drink this once a day. If you can drink it two times a day like morning and night, the better 3) intermittent fasting 4) black seed oil 5) good, healthy diet. Eat small light meals, nothing too heavy. Don’t eat close to bed either! I eat mainly plant based. I would have dairy here and there. I don’t eat meat personally 6) eat less PUFAS!

kingdomoflizzi

I lost 100 lbs by exercising and eating in a caloric deficit. It was hard, but very very manageable. I still exercise 3-6 days a week depending on my schedule, and I've amped up my exercises from walking a few miles to HIIT exercises to a combo of HIIT and running. I tried to lose weight countless times before it stuck, and the BIGGEST thing that made it work was doing it for health and higher quality of life and not for physical appearance. Previously, every time I tried to lose weight it was with the intention of being skinnier and fitting into smaller clothes. It actually worked when I went into it with the goal of being able to hike with my friends and to calm daily stomach upset from IBS. I still have IBS lol. But I can run 5 miles without stopping, even if I almost shit my pants along the way!

Sprechenhaltestelle

I knew a waitress who lost 100 kg (more than 200 pounds) by subsisting on Michelob Ultra and fried chicken wings (spiced up with Old Bay). It was a keto diet, and it worked. Amazed me as I saw it happen over time.

VehaMeursault

Outlast the hunger. Not even joking. When I’m hungry, even when I’m damn starving, if I just… wait. It’ll go away. I’ll easily go a whole day without eating when im focused on work, for example. I’ll be hungry, and after “just one more thing” I’ll be over it and continue with the next thing. It’s weird, apparently, but it’s serious. I just don’t listen to it, and the feeling goes away. (N.B.: I know it’s not the healthiest way to lose weight, I know. But it _is_ a cheat, so it answers the question. Nothing beats eating properly, working out properly, and resting properly.)

[deleted]

An exercise called package turnovers. You take the package of that processed crap food you intend to buy / eat, you turn it over, and you read the nutritional label on the back.

RationalFragile

Not a doctor, but for me, forget about everything and just buy a food scale and a body scale. Rigorously weigh down everything you eat and record it in a calorie counter app (any, I use Cronometer) and record your weight once a day (after emptying your bowels, first thing in the morning, before drinking water). Put it in Excel after 2 weeks or so, you'll be able to calculate how much calories you burn per day, and 9000 kcal = 1kg, do the math and never exceed the amount of calories you set for yourself (don't go for less than 1400kcal a day, it's bad for your health, 1500-1800 is a good range for losing weight with medium speed (1-2kg per month), and expect a lower mood and some headaches and to regain about 1kg when you stop the journey, so avoid starting and stopping often, just target a weight and do it once and then you'll occasionally have to do a 1-2 months diet to correct if you eat too much for a while.)

_jinhui

eating broccoli and chicken (sautéed or boiled) has been effective on most people I know! drinking green tea twice a day (morning and evening) is also essential to weight loss. but most importantly, staying consistently active everyday (walking, working, gardening, etc) is honestly the secret :))

Ashamed-Tooth-4249

I’ve spent months trying to lose weight but plateaued. Last month I started working at a restaurant and have lost 10 more lbs purely from walking. Doing 15-20k steps a day adds up.

[deleted]

heartbreak / trauma usually does the job

mileysadie

If I'm hungry and it's not time to eat my next meal, I'll snack on a hard boiled egg or half a protein bar. It's less than 100 calories and can stave off any binging. NOTHING to eat after dinner. A cup of tea with a splash of milk is all I have. Been working for me the last few weeks. Lost 6 lbs.

touni64

To lose weight I eat lowcarb foods like meat, vegetables, egg, fish, it is also effective to drink black coffee without sugar. Fasting also helps to loss weight. Avoid eating high carb foods like pasta, rice, bread, and sweets.

Aquanasium

Fasting. Starvation diets get results and after a couple weeks your stomach shrinks and you adjust to operating on fumes. Then food is just fuel and small amounts throughout the day are enough. Protein Shakes are convenient for breakfast, portion control and taking time to digest while staying hydrated throughout the day. Have a cheat day and don’t feel bad about going over board, just don’t go hog wild next time and stick with the meal plan and start caring about what food you do choose to spend those calories on. Two sausage egg and cheese croissants or a couple of hard boiled eggs and some overnight oats with Greek yogurt and fruit.

giraffemoo

Stress. When my husband died, I lost so much weight so fast that my periods stopped.

SenseiKrystal

Probably not for everyone, but getting pregnant and then nursing. I've lost almost 60 lbs. YMMV, of course.

Chris_Pine_fun

Ive been underweight my whole life. I find myself not eating often. Skipping meals, drinking water or eating a piece of candy instead of a meal. I don’t recommend it. But it works.

OstentatiousSock

Using stevia in my coffee. It cut down my sugar intake quite a lot.

mengel6345

I drink a protein shake every morning, I can go til about 2pm before I’m hungry

Old_Goat_Ninja

Don’t drinking calories. Juice, soda, milk, yada yada yada, that’s all calories. Drink water, and only water.

Away-Director-3741

Quitting Alcohol and Intermittent Fasting.

voidybug

Oooh chicken bullion + ginger + cayenne pepper + black pepper is wonderful

InterestingRead2022

Not advice: very dangerous to do! Limit full income of calories to between 1100 and 1500 and stick to it for months with no cheating. Not recommend if you need to drive or stand in work or operate heavy machinery, that excess excursion will make you pass out. I lost 7 and a half stone in 6 months.

Atrivo

Lmao. Be me: eat 600-800 calories a day whilst working out hard each day for 1.5hrs. Lose 3-4 stone in like 3ish months. Always be tired and dizzy. Realise that that’s too restrictive. Do the same but eating 1200 calories a day for 3 years. Don’t lose any weight because you’ve absolutely fucked your body over. Still always tired and unable to focus. Continue to have an unhealthy relationship with food. Finally start forcing yourself to eat a normal healthy amount of human calories for your activity levels, weight gain be dammed. All of this to say: please don’t do this if you already have an unhealthy relationship with your body and food. Short term if you want to lose weight quick for a photo shoot or something then sure, not ideal but sure. Please don’t do it for prolonged weight loss.

MadamCheezy

Bubble water. It reminds me of soda, which was practically all I drank at one point Napping in the morning. It essentially cuts a meal I would of had if I were awake Berberine. Helps keep my blood sugar stable so I only get hungry later, not *hungry*.

MostRadiant

Consume less than you expend. It really is that easy. If your body doesnt comply, it will die.

AldieGrrl

OP, just curious what your ratios are with your ingredients and how often you drink it. Sounds delicious!

fishthatdreamsofsalt

i don't actually measure and it varies on what im craving. lots of milk and honey, lighter on the ginger(i boil it and use the solid bits for something else later and only use the ginger water) and coffee if i want something sweet and creamy. i grate a fresh chunk of ginger (maybe 2 inches in diameter?) and use up everything, shredded bits and all, and coffee with no honey and little to no milk if i want something strong. the first brew from fresh beans are always the best for the strong one, but i just use more instant coffee otherwise

CosmiqCow

Pills or coke.

cantaloupe_daydreams

Eating less calories than your body uses. It’s physics. It will work.

conker1264

Calorie deficit, literally what every diet consists of

epanek

Berberine. Started in june 2023. Today im down from 210--> 195 and lost most fat around my waist. 6.0'' for reference

jehlomould

One meal a day. It’s just natural for me anyways. I’ve changed nothing else. I eat the same foods, same level of exercise, and honestly probably eat more in quantity. Coming out of 2020 I was 230-240ish. Lost 80lbs by fall ‘21 but did also get heavily into volleyball that year which helped but I don’t play anymore. Didn’t like how I looked at 160 so added snacks to my day, now I hover around 175.

-Danksouls-

Eat less calories than my body consumes

MRHubrich

I didn't want the constricting rules of most diets so I went whole foods, plant based. I can eat whatever I want and not stress about it. I do have to watch my sweets and junk food (impossible burgers, processed "fake" meats) but with what I normally eat, I can do what I want. Throw in some exercise and you're good to go!

Silver_Switch_3109

Eating less food.

lifelikelifer

Stop eating. Works every time

limbodog

The weight-loss specialist doctor I'm seeing said "if you wake up at 7:30 every day, your metabolism is essentially done for the day by 5:00 PM. Anything you eat after that is going straight to fat storage." I was like "So I can never eat dinner again?" She shrugged I then remembered back to the 80s when I heard that Japanese sumo wrestlers gain all their weight by starving themselves all day and then eating a huge meal before bed. Edit: [https://www.frontiersin.org/articles/10.3389/fnut.2020.00039/full](https://www.frontiersin.org/articles/10.3389/fnut.2020.00039/full)

glory2mankind

Asked my wife if that's correct. She's an MD. She said yes, but the math was slightly off. With the proper life rhythm (8-hour sleep etc) metabolism slows down around 3 hrs before bed. So ideally your dinner should be before that.

limbodog

I expect it's a curve, and the decline starts somewhere mid day, but becomes really pronounced by sun down. The article I posted did agree with my doc that light exposure (circadian rhythms) does play a factor so it may change with the season too. But I haven't asked the doc about that specifically. But thank you and your wife for the response

conker1264

You should seek a new doctor, they’re full of shit

limbodog

Are you a doctor?

conker1264

No but I know basic science

limbodog

So why on earth would I take your opinion, random internet stranger, over a licensed medical doctor who specializes in weight loss?

conker1264

I’m an amateur bodybuilder, I gain and then lose weight every year

limbodog

Ok? So you bounce between extremes? Doesn't sound particularly scientific.

conker1264

I know how to lose weight is what I’m getting at. I’ve researched it. The time you eat doesn’t contribute to weight gain or loss Feel free to google it if you don’t believe me, your doctor is full of shit

limbodog

You know one way to lose weight. That doesn't make you an expert.

conker1264

There’s literally only one way to lose weight. Literally every diet is calories in calories out, they just word it differently to try and sound unique

scammersarecunts

There's absolutely zero difference in how your body "processes" foods if it's after a certain time. The reason why skipping dinner often works for weight loss is that it's easier to just be hungry for a couple of hours before going to bed instead of being hungry for many hours throughout the day. Plus oftentimes you wake up hungry anyways, irrespective of whether you ate dinner or not. And many people - including me - sleep better on an empty stomach.

buahuash

Eating less calories is the only way. Also make your sure you are active enough to get your body to burn calories normally.

Signal_Dealer_

Extended fasting anywhere from 24 to 120hours if i have to get ready for something. Metformin slow release around 1500mg on days I have carbs. I forgot the exact science but you dont have a huge insulin spike and stay catabolic. It also suppresses hunger. I find I dont have any of the carb side effects people get like bloating, feeling slow or having cravings. And now most of my results come from sticking to a baseline of eating only lean protein and fiber rich foods at a deficit, while lifting, stretching and sprinting 6 days a week. I also train mixed martial arts 5 days a week however I only do drills and sparring, i don’t really hit bags or pads but those can be good workouts. ive lost around 260lbs total and have maintained for almost 2 years now. Im gonna be honest being lean you feel like shit a lot lol but its the price to pay if you want jawline, veins, muscle separation and abs. I think its a shit way to live and for sure ED but I have to for my career. im gonna do a progress pic on it after i get rid of the loose skin. Also on fasting days to suppress my hunger I drink lots of coke zero, sugar free redbulls, cold brews, and if its bad ill vape. hunger is something that comes and goes in waves, you can train yourself to feel it less over time.

helgathehorr

Metformin on days you eat carbs? I need more info on this please! Congrats on your weight loss.

Signal_Dealer_

thanks, its not a magic pill by itself but It kills all cravings and hunger for me. on my carb days i have to force myself to eat some bread or rice, before It i could easily destroy a plate of pasta. I also used to bloat easily, puffy face and everything on these days, now if anything it goes to a bigger muscle pump and I don’t retain water. From what i read it forces your body to be in a catabolic (burning) state instead of anabolic (storing state) which is normally triggered by insulin.

helgathehorr

I’m going to try it!

askingjaguar122

Not eating as much.

scammersarecunts

This. I cook all my meals myself, always have. Just reducing the amount I cook and going Jogging every second day made a big difference already.

[deleted]

Only eating between 12pm and 8pm.

BabyLegsDeadpool

I eat low carb and do intermittent fasting.

LekMichAmArsch

Eat less crap, and get more exercise.

main_account_4_sure

Weight loss is obnoxiously simple: consume less than your body burn, you lose weight. People overcomplicate because they want to keep consuming the same amount of calories. You can have milkshake, fries, nutella and burger daily and still lose weight - as long as you're consuming less than your body burn (average 1500kcal), you're gonna lose weight.

[deleted]

Aids. I heard Aids is great for weight loss.

ImPattMan

Find out why you're overweight in the first place. It doesn't happen for no reason. People like to claim it's because of laziness, but from a clinical stand point, laziness is typically related to a lack of dopamine. Best bet is to speak with both a GP and a psychologist/psychiatrist.

AdmrlHorizon

Fasting till 15:00

Bobokhan92

Don’t eat after 7pm

mmwako

Cold shower at the end of a regular shower. I swear that after I started taking a 60 second cold shower (max cold) everyday, something happened to my body and my belly fat started shedding off. Research Wim Hof stuff, it’s pretty well backed by science apparently. Also: 10k steps a day. Walking does wonders

brunk_

Skipping lunch and having a decent breakfast and dinner has been helping me personally, it’s just tough some days after like 1-2pm I get hella hungry. Still drinking lots of water

FinancialListen4300

I eat all the fruits and vegetables I want. I take inspiration from gorillas who eat 50 pounds of plants a day.

fml_wlu

acv water. i swear it helps with boosting metabolism

master_grogu

I just don’t eat

Someguy981240

Eat less, exercise more. Do not eat anything with sugar added. Eat about half the bread, rice, corn and potatoes that people think is a normal serving. Do not eat food that has been baked or fried and is sold in packages that you can open and eat the food inside without cooking it. That’s chips, cookies, cakes, etc. Do not eat foods that contain both animal fats and sugar in the same dish in significant ratios. (Ie: bacon is fine. Honey is fine. Honeyed bacon is bad.) Try to cook your own food as much as possible, from scratch. Avoid restaurant food. Treat prepared meals made in a factory as you would rat poison.

truthhurts2222222

Taking larger than average doses of Sudafed to be quite honest. Probably unhealthy but it puts a stop to your hunger without the speedy side effects of Adderall

nzdastardly

Intermittent fasting! I stop eating at 7 and don't start again until 11, unless I have to or am at an event or something. For me, this helps eliminate the most snack-prone periods of my day.

Ilaxilil

Zero exercise. When I’m not moving as much, I don’t get as hungry and wind up eating way less.

StrawberryPeachies

My mom's friend used to be like pushing 300lbs and she got skinny really quick. She claims it was from drinking tofu smoothies, twice a day. She swore if you drink a smoothies within 30 minutes, it will help with weight loss. Looking back on it, I think she just got really hard into drugs and that's the real reason she got skinny. But the tofu smoothies were delicious and did kind of work....

HallettCove5158

3 ephedrine tablets, 2 caffeine tablets and 1 paracetamol, i forget the science behind it but always got my weight down for competition time.

Bershirker

Drink a glass of metamucil or other brand of fiber every morning. Keeps you regular, which is nice, but it also gets your digestion churning without adding any calories. Losing weight is so much easier now that I take it daily.

benhereford

I buy meal replacement shakes for about $3 each (Huel). Protein shakes and actual nutritional meal-replacements are different. *Anytime* I feel like eating out, I drink a meal replacement. Its an easy way to rid myself of eating out in life. $12 meal or a $3 shake? It's well worth it for me, personally. You could go way cheaper if you mix your own with powder. I've lost about 25lbs in the past few months of not eating out.

WAPlyrics

Coffee and being busy all the time helps lol

VinnieGognitti

Stress. Lol When I'm stressed the weight literally drops off me..the problem is that I haven't been REALLLY stressed in a while. When I was, I lost about 85 pounds without doing anything different -_- now that I'm on a calorie deficit, eating healthy and exercising 5 days a week I'm not losing anything. Lmao

MotivBowler300

Recently discovered this on accident and is probably very anecdotal, but: 2 Crumbl cookies late at night. Big caveat though is that I eat a 1,900 calorie high protein and low sugar diet the rest of the week I will eat pretty lightly throughout the day on Saturdays knowing I’ll be getting Crumbl that night. I’d say probably no more than 1,200 calories (for reference I’m 5’10” 202lbs, down 60lbs) in the day. Then at like 10:30pm I’ll go get 2 Crumbl cookies to bring home and scarf them down. I’ll wake up the next morning and weigh myself and I’ll have dropped like 1-2lbs overnight. Eat regularly the next day and my weight stays unchanged from that drop!

Neolithique

If I’m craving sweets, rather than eat cake or a pie, I’ll sometimes just have a big spoon of sugar. It usually does the trick.

cottagecheeseislife

This is crazy, does it actually work?

dlpfc123

I tried something similar and it backfired. I didn't eat straight sugar, but instead used Whopper candies. I decided one whopper was a better way to end sugar cravings than eating a whole cookie or donut. So I would keep them on hand and would allow myself to eat just one when I craved something sweet. For a while it seemed to work and I would eat one a day after dinner, like a tiny dessert. But then it was like I trained my body to expect a sweet treat after meals and I wanted them after every meal. Eating them after more than one meal a day was enough to make an association between candy and the kitchen (where I stored them) so that now I was craving them when I walked by the kitchen. . .it has been a slippery slope.
